 Additional Public Prosecutor S S Kaushik informed the court on January 14 that the police have decided to submit a "C-summary report," which is filed when a case is found to lack evidence but is neither entirely false nor true.
In response, the court disposed of Wankhede&rsquo;s petition seeking to transfer the case to the CBI, stating that nothing remains for consideration in light of the police's decision. However, the bench clarified that Wankhede is free to challenge the closure report in the appropriate legal forum.
&ldquo;We have not examined the merits of the petitioner&rsquo;s complaint or the police investigation, and all parties are free to pursue their contentions as per law,&rdquo; the court stated.
&nbsp; Background of the Case
 Wankhede, a member of the Mahar Scheduled Caste and an officer in the Directorate General of Taxpayer Services (DGTS), accused Malik of targeting his caste and questioning the authenticity of his caste certificate. Malik allegedly made defamatory remarks on television and social media, which Wankhede claimed caused harm and humiliation.
The police investigation, which was directed by the court in December 2024, included additional charges under the SC/ST Act related to false accusations and intentional insults.
Wankhede and Malik have been embroiled in a public feud since the arrest of Malik&rsquo;s son-in-law, with the former alleging a smear campaign against him and his family.
The court&rsquo;s order leaves Wankhede the option to take further legal steps while keeping the case open for review by the appropriate forum.

In a twist to the investigation into the recent attack on actor Saif Ali Khan at his Bandra residence, Mumbai Police detained a suspect on Friday morning but later clarified that the individual had no connection to the case. The police continue their hunt for the intruder, who left the actor injured during a burglary attempt at his home. Authorities confirmed that they had recovered a portion of the blade that had been removed from Saif's back, while efforts to locate the remaining piece are still ongoing.
The suspect was last seen near the Bandra railway station following the attack, and police suspect he boarded a local train to Vasai Virar. Search operations have been launched in the Vasai, Nalasopara, and Virar areas.
The attack occurred early on Thursday morning at around 2:30 am when an intruder confronted the actor's maid at his 11th-floor flat. Saif attempted to intervene and de-escalate the situation, but things turned violent, leading to him being stabbed multiple times. The actor was immediately rushed to Lilavati Hospital, where he underwent surgery to remove a 2.5-inch-long knife lodged in his spine, causing a serious injury to his thoracic spinal cord. Doctors confirmed that Saif is out of danger but will remain under close observation in the ICU for continued recovery.
In the FIR registered by Mumbai Police, the maid claimed that the intruder demanded one crore rupees from the family. During the altercation, he allegedly attacked the maid with a hexa blade, injuring her hands. "Saif Ali Khan's operation has been successful. His neurosurgery and plastic surgery are completed. He has been shifted to the ICU from the Operation Theatre for one-day observation. After that, we will decide tomorrow. Right now, he is looking absolutely fine. He is on a recovery path. The recovery should be 100 percent as per our initial understanding," Dr. Uttamani confirmed. He also noted that Saif had sustained two deep wounds, two intermediate injuries, and two abrasions.
Dixit Gedam, DCP Zone 9 of Mumbai Police, stated that the attack appears to have been a robbery attempt.

The locals shared the video on Twitter tagging Mumbai Police, which led to the arrest five days after the incident which happened on June 20, 2023. Further probe revealed that the rider who runs a coconut shop, had four of his children and three kids from his neighbourhood on his scooter.

The Mumbai police on Monday issued prohibitory orders till June 11 restricting the movement and unlawful assembly of five or more persons in order to prevent a breach of peace, disturbance to public tranquillity and danger to human lives and loss of property in the metropolis, an official said.
Assembly of five or more persons, processions, use of loudspeakers and amplification instruments, musical bands and bursting of firecrackers have been restricted, though marriage ceremonies, funeral assemblies, statutory meetings of companies, clubs, co-operative societies etc are exempted, as per the order.
Assemblies in or around cinema houses, theatres or any place of public amusement for the purpose of watching films, dramas or performances, around schools and colleges are also exempted along with assemblies in or around courts of law and offices of the government and local bodies in discharge of government and semi-government functions, it said.

The centre, located in a house along Rajodi Beach outside India's financial capital, housed dozens of employees who were not allowed to leave the building to prevent them from interacting with outsiders.
But police got a tip-off that someone was repeatedly ordering dozens of breakfasts from a nearby eatery -- and at 4:00 am.
"The beach resort is full of tourists on weekends and almost deserted on other days. So the 50 to 60 tea and breakfast orders so early every morning for many days raised our suspicion and we started secretly monitoring the place," police officer Suhas Bavche told AFP.
Police finally raided the house, which had a floor with 60 workstations, on the night of April 11 and arrested the owner and 47 employees.
They have been charged with impersonation, cheating and fraud under India's Information Technology Act. Authorities had also commenced a forensic examination of the computers.
The investigation so far has revealed that young employees were trained to receive calls from unsuspecting bank customers from Australia, Bavche said.
They allegedly extracted sensitive personal details and security information -- including one-time passwords -- from them and passed the information on to managers over email, the officer said.
"This could be the tip of the iceberg. We are investigating international connections for the racket," he added.

Gosavi's bodyguard Prabhakar Sail had alleged that he had struck a deal for Rs 18 crore to release Shah Rukh Khan's son Aryan Khan after the raid, adding that Rs 8 crores from the bribe money were to go to NCB officer Sameer Wankhede.
Both Gosavi and Wankhede have denied the allegation.
Gosavi has demanded that Sail's call records should be investigated to find the truth about the bribe allegation.
Kiran Gosavi has been on the run since questions were raised on his presence at the NCB office after Aryan Khan's arrest. He earlier tried to surrender at a Lucknow police station citing threat to his life in Maharashtra, but was not allowed to.
Gosavi has also been accused of duping a Pune man on the pretext of getting him a job in Malaysia. A look out notice was issued against him to stop him from leaving the country.
