Eastern Nagaland recorded almost 0% voter turnout as there is an indefinite shutdown in six districts over separate state demand.&nbsp;

Six districts of eastern Nagaland wore a deserted look on Friday as people stayed indoors following an indefinite shutdown call by the Eastern Nagaland People's Organisation (ENPO), an apex body of the seven tribal organisations of the area, to press for its demand for a separate state.
Sources said while the situation is peaceful, there is no movement of any person or vehicles except that of the district administration and other emergency services.
Additional Chief Electoral Officer of Nagaland Awa Loring said election officials are stationed in the 738 polling stations in the six districts of the region.
Sources added there was no voter turnout till 1 pm. Polling concluded at 4 pm but the final tally is still awaited.&nbsp;
These districts are occupied by seven Naga tribes &ndash; Chang, Konyak, Sangtam, Phom, Yimkhiung, Khiamniungan and Tikhir. Their demand for separate statehood is also supported by a section of Sumi tribe belonging to the region.
The ENPO on March 5 had announced an "indefinite total shutdown all over Eastern Nagaland jurisdiction with effect from 6pm on April 18 (Thursday)".
The organisation has been demanding a separate state since 2010, claiming that the six districts have been neglected for years.
Of the 13.25 voters in Nagaland, the six districts in Eastern Nagaland have 4,00,632 voters.
Meanwhile, Nagaland CEO Vayasan R, while viewing the bandh as an attempt to exert undue influence during elections, had issued a show cause notice to the ENPO on Thursday night.
He said under sub-section (1) of Section 171C of the Indian Penal Code, "Whoever voluntarily interferes or attempts to interfere with the free exercise of any electoral right commits the offence of undue influence at an election."

The NDPP-BJP alliance bagged 37 seats in the 60-member Nagaland assembly, securing a straight second term in office in the northeastern state.
The Nationalist Democratic Progressive Party (NDPP) and the BJP emerged victorious in 25 and 12 constituencies respectively.
None of the other parties reached the double figure with the NCP and the National People's Party (NPP), winning seven and five seats respectively.
While the LJP (Ram Vilas), RPI (Athawale) and the NPF equally shared six constituencies, the JD(U) got one seat. Independent candidates bagged four seats.
The Congress failed to win any seat in the state and secured a vote share of 3.55 per cent.
In the 2018 election, the NDPP-BJP contested the assembly election with a seat-sharing formula of 40:20, which the two parties maintained this time too.
The NDPP led by Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio had won 18 seats while the BJP bagged 12.
While the NDPP secured a vote share of 32.22 per cent, the saffron party&rsquo;s share of polled votes is 18.81 per cent.
&ldquo;Congratulations to all the winning candidates of the Nagaland Assembly Elections 2023. As we have assured the electorates, let us pursue with sincerity to fulfill our goals and vision. May God Almighty help us,&rdquo; Rio said in a Twitter post.
BJP president JP Nadda said that Prime Minister Narendra Modi&rsquo;s visionary leadership and Rio&rsquo;s governance will ensure peace while reaching new heights of progress in the state once more, he said.&nbsp;

The poll also gives BJP a surprising 16 per cent vote share and 10-14 seats, possibly coming from eastern Nagaland where it focused its campaigning. Congress is predicted to get 10 per cent votes and between 1-2 seats and the rump of the Naga People's Front which remained after some 21 MLAs joined NDPP is forecast to get 13 per cent vote share and between 3-8 seats.
Times Now similarly predicts 27-33 seats for NDPP, 12-16 seats for BJP, and 4-8 seats for NPF. While Zee News-Matrize is giving 35-43 to NDPP-BJP, it has also predicted 2-5 seats for the NPF and 1-3 seats for the Congress.&nbsp;

The ruling Nationalist Democratic Progressive Party (NDPP) and the BJP are contesting the polls on a 40:20 seat-sharing basis. The Congress, which ruled the state till 2003 and does not have any member in the current House, has fielded 23 aspirants.
In Meghalaya, 369 candidates are in the fray on 59 seats, with 21.6 lakh eligible voters. Voting in Sohiong constituency was postponed due to death of a candidate.
Voting is underway at 3,419 polling stations, of which 640 have been categorised as &lsquo;vulnerable&rsquo; and 323 as &lsquo;critical&rsquo;, Chief Electoral Officer F R Kharkongor said. Thirty-six of the 369 candidates are women, with the largest number of 10 women candidates being put up by the Congress.

A vehicle was also torched in the same area where the kidnapping took place, he said.
&ldquo;We have registered a case and are hopeful of making some arrests soon,&rdquo; the police officer said.

BJP's northeast co-incharge Rituraj Sinha told reporters on Thursday that the party will fight the Meghalaya polls under the campaign tagline of "M-Power" (Modi power), asserting that people of the state have trust in PM Modi.

The BJP will contest on all 60 seats of the Meghalaya Assembly and fight the Nagaland elections in an alliance with the state's ruling Nationalist Democratic Progressive Party, contesting on 20 of 60 seats.
BJP secretary and its northeast co-incharge Rituraj Sinha told reporters on Thursday that the party will fight the Meghalaya polls under the campaign tagline of "M-Power" (Modi power), asserting that people of the state have trust in Prime Minister Narendra Modi. They believe Modi is the only person who can ensure a corruption-free government and fast track development, he said.
Nagaland and Meghalaya BJP chief Temjen Imna Along and Ernest Mawrie, respectively also named party candidates approved by the party's central election committee.
Sinha claimed that people in the northeastern states are fed up of corruption and slow pace of development, even though central government schemes have reached them. They, though, believe that their implementation could have been better, he said.
Chief Minister Conrad Sangma-led National People's Party is in power in Meghalaya. Though the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is a part of his government, the relations between the two parties have long been far from smooth. The BJP had contested on 47 seats in the 2018 assembly polls and had won two.

Sinha expressed confidence that the saffron party will do well in the state polls and noted that Modi has visited the northeast region over 50 times in his term. This is more than the visits of all the previous prime ministers put together, he said, adding that Modi has always been to the region with some development package.
The prime minister has converted the 'Look East' policy into 'act policy'. The central government has worked to execute the HIRA (highways, internet connectivity, roadways and airport) model in the region which has also witnessed an era of peace, Sinha said.
"In the true sense, Modi has married regional aspiration of the northeast with our national priorities," he said.
Nalin Kohli, BJP's in-charge for Nagaland, said, "We believe Modi's work, focus on development and peace are the critical factors which will drive Nagaland's voters." Both the states will go to polls on February 27 and counting of votes is due for March 2.
