The National Commission for Women (NCW) has taken suo moto cognizance of the derogatory remark made by TMC MP Mahua Moitra against its chairperson Rekha Sharma and sought an FIR against her.
This came a day after the TMC leader, commenting on a video posted on X showing the NCW chairperson's arrival at the site of a stampede that recently took place in Uttar Pradesh's Hathras, wrote, "She is too busy holding up her boss's pajamas".
"The crude remarks are outrageous and a violation of a woman's right to dignity. The Commission observed that this remark attracts Section 79 of the Bharatiya Nyay Sanhita, 2023," the NCW said in a post on X.
The NCW said it strongly condemns the defamatory remarks and requests strict action against Moitra.
"An FIR should be registered against Moitra and a detailed action report should be communicated to the Commission within 3 days," the NCW wrote.

NCW shared their request on X by tagging Rekha Sharma NCW chairperson, Ministry of Women and Child Development, Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, Ministry of Electronics &amp; IT and Chennai Police.
The statement read, &lsquo;The National Commission for Women is deeply concerned about the derogatory remarks made by actor Mansoor Ali Khan towards actress Trisha Krishna. We&rsquo;re taking suo motu in this matter directing the DGP to invoke IPC Section 509 B and other relevant laws.Such remarks normalize violence against women and must be condemned.&rsquo;
This comes a day after BJP leader and member of the National Commission for Women (NCW) came forward to show her solidarity with Trisha.
Her post on X (formerly Twitter) read, &lsquo;As a member of NCW, I have already taken up the issue of Mansoor Ali Khan with my senior and will be taking an action on it. Nobody can get away with such a filthy mind. I stand with @trishtrashers and my other colleagues where this man speaks in such a sexist disgusting mindset about them, including me. When we are fighting tooth and nail to protect women and bring dignity to them, such men are like a bot in our society.&rsquo;
Lokesh Kanagaraj&rsquo;s recent release, &lsquo;Leo&rsquo;, was headlined by Thalapathy Vijay, in which Trisha was seen delivering a powerful performance but did not share the screen with Mansoor.
A video went viral in which Mansoor said in Tamil, &lsquo;When I heard that I was acting with Trisha, I thought there would be a bedroom scene in the film. I thought I would carry her to the bedroom just like I did with other actresses in my earlier movies. I have done so many rape scenes and it&rsquo;s not new to me. A post of a youth named Prince Bhatt is receiving massive flak online as he shared pictures of young girls having 'Kanya bhoj' and wrote a caption in which he appeared to have cracked a rape joke.
Soon after this, internet users started calling him out and shared his post widely. Several social media users dug in and claimed that he worked as a waiter for Hyatt Regency Chandigarh.&nbsp;
However, the National Commission for Women (NCW) got in contact with the Senior Superintendent of Police in Chandigarh and found that Prince Bhatt is not associated with any of the Hyatt establishments situated in Chandigarh.&nbsp;
NCW further said that they have conveyed correspondence to the Director General of Police in Chandigarh, urging swift action to apprehend the accused individual.

The 20-year-old died on 1 January 2023 after her scooty was allegedly hit by a car, she got tangled in the wheels, and was dragged for a long distance. The accused have been arrested.
Commenting on the incident, Delhi Lieutenant Governor VK Saxena said that his "head hangs in shame". Saxena called the incident an "inhuman crime", and said he was "shocked at the monstrous insensitivity" of the accused who were later arrested. He also issued an appeal to "not resort to opportunistic scavenging".

Police here have registered a case against Congress leader Ajay Rai for his "latka-jhatka" remark against Union minister Smriti Irani, an official said on Tuesday.
The Uttar Pradesh Congress leader on Monday took a jibe at Irani here, saying she only comes to her constituency Amethi to show "latkas" and "jhatkas", an unflattering reference to dance moves that provoked a sharp response from the BJP.
Station House Officer of Roberstganj Police Station, Balmukund Mishra, told PTI, "A case has been registered against Ajay Rai on the complaint lodged by BJP's mahila morcha head of Sonbhdra Pushpa Singh at the Robertsganj Police Station." The case has been registered under sections 354(A) (sexual harassment and punishment for sexual harassment), 501 (printing or engraving matter known to be defamatory), and 509 (word, gesture or act intended to insult the modesty of a woman) of the Indian Penal Code.

Asked if Gandhi will contest the 2024 Lok Sabha elections from Amethi, Rai had told reporters, "It has been the seat of the Gandhi family. Rahul ji has been the Lok Sabha MP from there. So has been Rajiv (Gandhi) ji and Sanjay (Gandhi) ji, and they have served it." "Most of the factories in Amethi are on the verge of closure. Half of the factories in Jagdishpur industrial area are lying shut. Smriti Irani only comes, shows 'latka-jhatka', and leaves," Rai, who is a regional chief of the party had said.
Currently, Amethi is represented in Lok Sabha by Union Minister for Women and Child Development Irani.
Responding to the statement, Irani said Rahul Gandhi and his mother Sonia Gandhi needed a new scriptwriter.
"You and Mummy ji need to get your mysoginistic (misogynist) goons a new speechwriter,&rdquo; the Union Minister for Women and Child Development had said.

The National Commission for Women (NCW) has sought explanation from a senior IAS officer over her "inappropriate and highly objectionable" remark to a student who asked about affordable sanitary napkins.
According to media reports, when the girl student from Bihar asked why the government could not provide sanitary pads, Harjot Kaur Bhamra responded, "Tomorrow, you attain the age of family planning and you would expect the government to provide 'nirodh' (condoms) too." The NCW said it had observed that such "insensitive attitude" from a person at a responsible position was condemnable and extremely shameful.
"NCW has taken cognizance of the matter. Chairperson Rekha Sharma has written to Harjot Kaur Bhamra, IAS, seeking explanation over her inappropriate and highly objectionable remarks," the women's panel said in a statement.

The state government&rsquo;s decision to send a teenage acid attack victim to AIIMS, New Delhi for better treatment and not the deceased girl from Dumka, who succumbed to her injuries five days after the attack, is being questioned by the BJP.

The National Commission for Women (NCW) on Wednesday sought a report from the Jharkhand director general of police on the death of the teenage girl who succumbed after being set afire by a man apparently after she spurned his advances.
The state government&rsquo;s decision to send another teenager, who is an acid attack victim, to AIIMS in New Delhi for better treatment sparked a war of words between the ruling and opposition camps of the state with the BJP wondering why the Dumka girl did not get the same facility.
A two-member NCW team visited the family members of the deceased in Dumka.
&ldquo;We have sought a report from the DGP. We came here to take a first-hand report of the incident,&rdquo; NCW member Shalini Singh told reporters.
A team of the National Commission for Protection of Child Rights (NCPCR) is also scheduled to visit Dumka on September 4, officials said.
Though the police had initially claimed that the deceased was an adult, the Child Welfare Committee (CWC) in Dumka district later said that the class 12 student who died days after being set on fire was a minor.
The main accused, identified as Shahrukh, on August 23 allegedly poured petrol on the girl from outside the window of her room when she was sleeping and set her on fire. The teenager succumbed to her injuries on August 28. Shahrukh was arrested.
Leaders of the BJP and opposition BJP, and the <a href="https://www.editorji.com/india-news/congress-youtube-channel-deleted-party-initiates-probe-1661353457894">Congress</a> and the JMM, on behalf of the ruling coalition, also visited her family.
BJP leaders - Godda MP Nishikant Dubey, North-east Delhi MP Manoj Tiwari and former Delhi legislator Kapil Mishra - met the family members of the victim during the day and alleged that 'severe negligence' and 'appeasement politics of the ruling dispensation led to her death.
They raised questions about why she was not taken to Delhi by air ambulance like the acid attack victim and why no member of Chief Minister <a href="https://www.editorji.com/india-news/jharkhand-ruling-alliance-mlas-being-flown-out-amid-poaching-fears-over-hemant-soren-s-ec-trouble-1661856897018">Hemant Soren</a>&rsquo;s family visited her family.
"The CM and others had time to enjoy picnics and parties at dams and resorts. But not a member of the Soren family visited the victim," Dubey said.
Amid a political crisis triggered by an EC ruling on Jharkhand Chief Minister Hemant Soren&rsquo;s continuance as an MLA, MLAs of the ruling coalition spent a few hours at Latratu in Khunti district, some 40 kilometres from Ranchi.
Dubey said JMM supremo Shibu Soren and his sons Hemant Soren and Basant Soren all have represented the Dumka assembly constituency.
Claiming that it was a case of &lsquo;love jehad&rsquo;, he said that Rs 28 lakh collected through crowd-funding has been handed over to the victim's family.

The BJP leader asserted that it was not a Hindu/Muslim issue, but an attempt by fundamental forces to divide the country on religious lines.
He claimed that Union <a href="https://www.editorji.com/partner/news-minute/home-minister-amit-shah-meets-junior-ntr-ramoji-rao-in-hyderabad-1661167116789">Home Minister Amit Shah</a> had recently sought a report from Jharkhand Chief Secretary and DGP about the changing demography in the state during the last 10 years.
Reacting to the allegations, JMM general secretary and spokesperson Supriyo Bhattacharya accused the BJP of politicising the incident and claimed that the saffron party is all out to disturb the social fabric.
Bhattacharya claimed that a similar incident had occurred during the chief ministership of BJP&rsquo;s Raghubar Das but the JMM did not cite any other angle as a criminal is a criminal.
On charges that the Dumka girl was not taken to Delhi, he said that the medical board did not permit that for her.
The acid attack victim was taken to <a href="https://www.editorji.com/india-news/modi-govt-to-rename-aiims-watch-what-each-medical-institute-will-be-named-after-1661133711254">AIIMS</a> in New Delhi on Wednesday after getting the go-ahead from the medical board, Bhattacharya said and claimed that the BJP was resorting to &ldquo;blatant lies&rdquo;.
Congress MP Geeta Kora and JMM legislator Lobin Hembrom also visited the family.
Kora demanded the death penalty for the culprit to check the recurrence of such a crime.

A heartfelt apology to everyone whose sentiments have been disregarded.
The four-second section in which 'pahadi' women had been mentioned, has now been deleted from the video.
