"I am deeply saddened by the reports of about five dozen passengers that are missing when bus was washed away by a landslide on the Narayangadh- Muglin road section and the loss of properties due to floods and landslides in different parts of the country. I direct all agencies of the government, including the home administration, to search and effectively rescue the passengers," said the PM on X.

&nbsp;Nepal Army on Sunday said that it will collect around 10 tonnes of garbage and five bodies lying at Mt. Everest as it launches Mountain Cleaning Campaign 2024 in the Everest region.
A 12-member team led by Maj. Aditya Karki will embark on the Everest base camp on April 14 to bring the garbage from Mt. Everest, Mt. Lhotse and Mt. Nuptse, according to a source from the Nepal Army.
The source said an 18-member Sherpa team will assist the army in its cleaning expedition.
The expedition, to be flagged off by Nepal Army chief Gen. Prabhuram Sharma here on April 11, will bring at least 10 tonnes of garbage and five dead bodies of climbers lying unattended in the mountain, Nepal Army spokesperson Brig. Gen. Krishna Prasad Bhandari said.
Biodegradable waste will be brought to Namche Bazaar below the base camp and handed to the Sagarmatha Pollution Control Committee (SPCC) for proper treatment.
The non-biodegradable waste and dead bodies will be brought to Kathmandu, the spokesperson said.
The cleaning campaign will control human-made pollution in the Himalayas and address the problems related to climate change, Bhandari said.
The Nepal Army will collaborate with the Ministry of Forest and Environment, the Tourism Department and the Nepal Mountaineers Association for the Everest region's cleaning campaign.

Nepal Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal &lsquo;Prachanda&rsquo; on Wednesday secured a vote of confidence in Parliament, as the country struggled to maintain political stability amid the shifting of alliances.
Prachanda, 69, a former guerilla leader belonging to the Communist Party of Nepal (Maoist Centre) -- the third largest party in the House of Representatives (HoR) --received 157 votes in the 275-member House of Representatives (HoR).
Altogether 268 MPs were present during the voting in the Parliament building at Naya Baneshwor in Kathmandu.
110 votes were cast against him while one lawmaker abstained from voting. Prachanda needed 138 votes to win the trust vote.
&ldquo;The Prime Minister has won the vote of confidence,&rdquo; announced Speaker Dev Raj Ghimire.
The vote comes days after the Maoist leader dumped the Nepali Congress and forged a new alliance with the Communist Party of Nepal (Unified Marxist-Leninist).
This is the third time that Prachanda sought a vote of confidence in the House in less than one-and-a-half-year.
According to constitutional provisions, a prime minister has to take a vote of confidence after an ally withdraws support to the ruling coalition.
Prachanda was required to prove his majority after he lost the support of the previous ally, the Nepali Congress, the largest party in the HoR.
Prachanda's new political alliance is with the Communist Party of Nepal (Unified Marxist-Leninist) (CPN-UML) led by former prime minister K P Oli, who was regarded as a top critic of the Maoist leader.
Prachanda became the prime minister for the third term on December 25, 2022.
Last year, Prachanda faced a floor test after the Oli-led CPN-UML withdrew its support to the Prachanda-led government following a rift over backing the main opposition party&rsquo;s candidate for the presidential poll.
In the 2017 election, Prachanda and Oli merged their parties and secured a comfortable majority. Oli became the prime minister, but their partnership ended halfway following differences between them.&nbsp;

The agents, including the Indian mafia members, charged the Indian nationals, mostly students, Rs 4.5 million per person with the false promise of sending to the USA, and an additional USD 3,000 was charged as a visa fee upon their arrival here in Kathmandu, District Police chief Senior Superintendent of Police Bhupendra Bahadur Khatri told a press meet here.
Cases would be booked against each of the accused under sections pertaining to abduction, taking hostage, and human trafficking as per the Nepalese law, he said, adding, that a Nepali accomplice, who helped them in providing logistic services, was also arrested.
The freed Indians are staying at a hotel in Kathmandu as per the arrangements made by Nepal Police and they will be sent back to India coordinating with the Indian Embassy, Foreign Ministry, and other officials concerned, the police chief said.
When the hostages stayed at the rented house for more than two weeks, they were mentally and physically tortured, threatened, and locked in the rooms, he said.
&ldquo;Some of us were told, on a knife-point, to contact our family in India to assure them that we were safe and on the way to USA,&rdquo; one of the rescued persons told PTI.
All the documents, including visa and boarding passes, were forged while the police have recovered the passports of the victims along with fake rubber stamps and other forged documents from the site, Khatri said

Lamichhane's lawyer Saroj Ghimire was quoted as saying by 'The Kathmandu Post' that the cricketer "will appeal the decision in a higher court." In September last year, an arrest warrant was issued by the Kathmandu police for Lamichhane, leading to his suspension as the Nepal captain by the Cricket Association of Nepal.
Although he was playing in the Caribbean Premier League for Jamaica Tallawahs, the franchise released him with immediate effect, and he returned to Kathmandu, where he was arrested.
However, Lamichhane claimed innocence before his arrest and called the allegations a "conspiracy".
Lamichhane has scalped over 100 wickets in more than 103 white-ball matches for Nepal.
He has also had a brief stint in the Indian Premier League with the Delhi Capitals between 2018-20, bagging 13 wickets in nine fixtures.

A Dubai-bound Nepal Airlines flight with Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal "Prachanda" on board caused inconvenience to travellers as it took off two hours earlier than its scheduled time, leaving 31 passengers stranded at Kathmandu's Tribhuvan International Airport.
On Wednesday, the Dubai-bound flight - RA 299 was scheduled to take off at 11.30 pm but the national flag carrier flew at 9.30 pm from due to the flight&rsquo;s VVIP status.
Prime Minister Prachanda was on the same flight and he was leaving for Dubai with a delegation to the 28th Conference of Parties to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP 28). The flight had to leave early," said the airlines Later in a notice, the Airlines apologised for the inconvenience caused to the passengers.
There were 274 passengers on the list and of them 31 could not catch up the airplane which was rescheduled two hours late.
The airline said it had issued a notice regarding the new schedule through mobile phones and emails but 31 passengers did not respond.
The left-out passengers were put up in a hotel by the airlines and arrangement was made for their flight the next day, according to the airlines sources. Ramesh Paudel, Spokesperson of Nepal Airlines, however, claimed that he had informed each and every passenger through email and phone a week ahead about the new flight schedule.
He insisted that there was no negligence on their part and that the Dubai flight schedule was revised on November 23.
&ldquo;Due to the VVIP flights, the decision was not made public. We, however, informed each and everyone through email and phones on November 24,&rdquo; he said.

Five months after the Supreme Court legalised it, Nepal on Wednesday formally registered the first case of same-sex marriage, making it the first South Asian country to do so.
Trans-woman Maya Gurung, 35 and Surendra Pandey, 27, a gay, got legally married and their marriage was registered at Dordi Rural Municipality of Lamjung district in Western Nepal, according to Sanjib Gurung (Pinky), president of Blue Diamond Society, an organization working for the rights and welfare of the sexual minorities in Nepal.
Way back in 2007, Nepal&rsquo;s Supreme Court had allowed same-sex marriage. Even the Constitution of Nepal, adopted in 2015, explicitly states that there can be no discrimination on the basis of sexual orientation.
On June 27, 2023, the Supreme Court issued an interim order to legalise same-sex marriage in Nepal in a writ petition filed by multiple people, including Gurung. But despite the historic order to temporarily register same-sex marriage, Kathmandu District Court four months ago rejected the move citing a lack of necessary laws.
Surendra Pandey and Maya&rsquo;s marriage application was rejected at that time.
&ldquo;It&rsquo;s a great pleasure to learn about this, it is a great achievement for us, the third gender community of Nepal,&rdquo; Pinky told PTI. &ldquo;This is the first case not only in Nepal but also in the whole of South Asia, and we welcome the decision.&rdquo; Married in the traditional manner with the approval of their families, Surendra, a resident of Nawalparasi district, and Maya, a resident of Lamjung district, have been living together as husband and wife for the past six years.
&ldquo;There are many third-gender couples living without their identities and rights and this is going to help them a lot,&rdquo; Pinky said, adding that the door has now opened for other people of this community to get their marriage legalised.
&ldquo;Now their marriage has been temporarily registered and after the formulation of necessary laws, it will get permanent recognition automatically.&rdquo;&nbsp;

Nepal bans Chinese-owned social network platform Tiktok

The Nepal government said that there was a spike in hate speech owing to TikTok.&nbsp;

&nbsp;The Nepal government on Monday decided to ban the Chinese-owned social network platform Tiktok, citing its negative effects on social harmony.
According to government spokesperson and Minister for Communication and Information Technology, Rekha Sharma, Monday's Cabinet meeting decided to prohibit TikTok's use.
The decision to ban Tiktok will be implemented through the Ministry of Communication and IT, she said.
The Nepal government decided to ban Tiktok due to its negative effects on social harmony, The Kathmandu Post newspaper reported.
A Cabinet meeting on Thursday made it mandatory for social media sites such as Facebook, X (formerly Twitter), TikTok and YouTube, among others, to open their liaison offices in Nepal.
Although freedom of expression is a basic right, a large section of society has criticised TikTok for encouraging a tendency of hate speech, the government said. In the past four years, 1,647 cases of cybercrime have been reported on the video-sharing app, the report said.
The Cyber Bureau of the Nepal Police, Ministry of Home Affairs, and representatives of TikTok discussed the issue earlier last week. Monday&rsquo;s decision is expected to be enforced following the completion of technical preparations, it said.
Sharma clarified the decision to shut down Tiktok will be implemented promptly by setting a specific deadline.
However, Nepali Congress General Secretary Gagan Thapa expressed reservations about the decision.

A strong earthquake shook northwestern Nepal districts just before midnight Friday, and officials said at least 69 people were dead and dozens more injured as rescuers searched mountain villages.
Officials said early Saturday that the toll was expected to rise, noting that communications were cut off with many places.
The quake, which hit when many people already were asleep in their homes, was felt in India's capital, New Delhi, more than 800 kilometres (500 miles) away.
The US Geological Survey said the earthquake had a preliminary magnitude of 5.6 and occurred at a depth of 11 miles. Nepal's National Earthquake Monitoring &amp; Research Center said its epicentre was at Jajarkot, which is about 250 miles northeast of the Nepalese capital, Kathmandu.
The quake killed at least 35 people in Rukum district, where numerous houses collapsed, police official Narvaraj Bhattarai said over the telephone. Thirty injured people already had been brought to the local hospital, Bhattarai said.
In neighbouring Jajarkot district, 34 people were confirmed dead, government administration official Harish Chandra Sharma said.
He said security officials were working with villagers in the darkness to pull the dead and injured from fallen houses. But he added that reaching some spots was difficult because some of the trails were blocked by landslides triggered by the tremor and its aftershocks.

The official death toll in the remote villages of Nepal's Karnali Province has jumped to 128 with hundreds injured in a strong earthquake that originated in the country's Jajarkot district Friday midnight, The Nepal Times reported on Saturday morning.
The 6.4 magnitude earthquake had its epicentre at the Jajarkot district's Lamidanda.
The impact of the quake that took place at 11.47 pm Friday was felt in Kathmandu and surrounding districts, and even up to New Delhi in neighbouring India.

Friday&rsquo;s earthquake brought down many homes made of stone and mud mortar in Jajarkot and West Rukum.

After a powerful temblor jolted Nepal on Tuesday after at around 2.51 p.m., successive earthquakes have led to panic among residents.&nbsp;
As per NDTV, Nepal was first hit by an earthquake of 4.6 magnitude was recorded at 2:25 p.m.
Next, it was jolted by a relatively stronger earthquake of magnitude 6.2 at 2:51 p.m. in Bajhang district.
The tremors of this quake were felt across states in north India, including Uttarakhand and Delhi-NCR.
The country was then rocked by two aftershocks at the magnitude of 3.6 at 3:06 PM and magnitude 3.1 at 3:19 PM.

Citing the National Earthquake Monitoring and Research Centre, the Kathmandu Post newspaper reported that the first earthquake measuring 5.3 magnitude was recorded at 2:40 p.m. and another 6.3 magnitude quake at 3:06 p.m. in Bajhang district.
Tremors were felt in Kathmandu and neighbouring India.
