Plumes of thick and black smoke was seen coming out the Carnival Resort in West Delhi's Alipur area on Friday.

Massive flames erupted from a banquet in Delhi on Friday afternoon as fire trucks were seen gushing water on the blazing building. Visuals from the scene show a Bharat Petroleum station near the Carnival Resort in New Delhi's Alipur.
Plumes of thick black smoke was seen coming out of the building and going over a busy West Delhi road. The reason behind the fire remains unclear.
A call was received at 1.55 pm and 13 fire tenders have been pressed into service, an official from the Delhi Fire Service (DFS) said.
So far, there are no reports of anyone injured in the incident, the official said, adding that efforts are on to douse the fire.&nbsp;

The Delhi police has fortified the cities border points and banned large gatherings to stop farmers from entering the national capital on February 13.

Determined to stop farmers' march from entering the national capital, authorities in Delhi on Monday fortified the border points and banned large gatherings to avoid a breach of the law and order situation.
Besides massive deployment of police and paramilitary personnel equipped with anti-riot gears, multiple layers of barricades, concrete blocks, iron nails and walls of containers have been put up at three border points - Singhu, Tikri and Ghazipur.
Makeshift jails have also been set up at "specific locations" in view of farmers' 'Delhi Chalo' march on Tuesday, an official said.
The Delhi Police is also using drones to keep a tight vigil, the official said, adding that they are fully prepared to deal with any situation.
As traffic restrictions and security measures came into force, the motorists had a hard time commuting between Delhi and NCR towns.
More than 200 farmers&rsquo; unions are scheduled to march to the national capital on February 13 to press the Centre for accepting their demands, including enactment of a law to guarantee a minimum support price (MSP) for crops.
The Delhi Police has imposed Section 144 for a month, banning the assembly of five or more people, processions or rallies and entry of tractor trolleys carrying people in the city in view of intended widespread tension and "social unrest" due to the farmers' protest march.
The order issued by Delhi Police Commissioner Sanjay Arora came into effect on Monday and will be in place till March 12.
It stated that as far as congregation and procession relating to weddings, funerals and other religious functions is concerned, prior permission is required from authority concerned.
During their protest in 2020, farmers from different states, mainly Punjab, Haryana and Uttar Pradesh, had staged sit-in at the three border points.
Riding tractors and other vehicles, the farmers had sat at the three border points from August 2020 to December 2021.
In 2020, the police had to rush the logistics to check the entry of the farmers moving in procession of tractors.
A senior Delhi Police officer said that learning from past experience, tight security arrangements have been made this time. The police have also sealed rural roads bordering Haryana to stop the protesters from moving ahead to enter Delhi.
Apart from putting up multi-layered barricades, the Delhi Police has issued directions to its ground staff to keep a tab on the situation from the midnight of Monday and Tuesday.
The DCPs of east, outer and outer-north have been asked to brief seniors about developments happening every hour on February 13.
A senior police officer told PTI that barricades have been installed in such a way that this time the farmers would not be able to remove them easily. The cement boulders and roads have been jammed with the concrete.
The officer said unlike last time, the police will restrict entry from the narrow lanes alongside these three borders, once the farmers arrive.
The police of different districts have conducted multiple anti-riot mock drill exercises to use tear gas shells and water cannons in case the protesters manage to break the barricades.
At Tikri and Singhu borders, local residents and shopkeepers fear losses due to farmers' protest.
Looking anxiously as the police set up a five-layer barricade near the Tikri border metro station, Krushna Kumar wondered if he would have to shut shop again like three years ago when the agitation against the farm laws hit life in the area.
The fear of financial losses and other hardships has returned to haunt locals and shopkeepers like Kumar in Delhi's border areas ahead of the farmers' protest march to the national capital on Tuesday.

Delhi's air quality has deteriorated further and now stands closer to the "severe plus" category, a stage which might trigger the implementation of the odd-even car rationing measure in the capital.
The city's air quality index stood at 437 at 7 am, worsening from 419 at 4 pm on Thursday.
The capital's 24-hour average AQI, recorded at 4 pm every day, was 401 on Wednesday, 397 on Tuesday, 358 on Monday, 218 on Sunday, 220 on Saturday, and 279 on Friday.
The relatively better air quality last weekend is attributed to rain. Air pollution levels surged in the following days due to intense firecracker bursting on Diwali night and a resurgence in stubble burning in the neighbouring states.
These effects were compounded by unfavourable meteorological conditions, primarily calm winds and low temperatures, hindering the dispersion of pollutants. Neighbouring Ghaziabad (374), Gurugram (404), Greater Noida (313), Noida (366), and Faridabad (415) also recorded very poor to severe air quality.
An AQI between zero and 50 is considered good, 51 and 100 satisfactory, 101 and 200 moderate, 201 and 300 poor, 301 and 400 very poor, 401 and 450 severe and above 450 severe plus.
Earlier this week, Delhi Environment Minister Gopal Rai had mentioned the possibility of the return of the odd-even car rationing measure if the AQI crosses the 450-mark.
The measure, implemented four times since 2016, allows cars to operate on alternate days based on the odd or even last digit of their registration numbers. The last enforcement was in 2019.
The government last week postponed its implementation after a notable improvement in the city's air quality due to rain on Friday.
Recent findings from a joint project by the Delhi government and IIT-Kanpur found that vehicular emissions accounted for about 38 per cent of the capital's air pollution on Wednesday. This was reduced to 25 per cent on Thursday.
Secondary inorganic aerosols -- particles such as sulfate and nitrate that are formed in the atmosphere due to the interaction of gases and particulate pollutants from sources like power plants, refineries, and vehicles -- is the second major contributor to Delhi's foul air, accounting for 30 to 35 per cent of the air pollution in the city the last few days.
Calm winds and low temperatures are allowing accumulation of pollutants and relief is unlikely over the next few days, an official at the India Meteorological Department (IMD) said.
An improvement in the wind speed from November 21 onwards might bring air pollution levels down, he said.
Delhi's air quality dropped over the last few days despite the state government implementing stringent measures, including a ban on construction work and the entry of diesel-guzzling trucks into the city.
According to IQAir, a Swiss company that specialises in air quality monitoring, Delhi was the most polluted city in the world on Thursday, followed by Baghdad and Lahore.
A system developed by the Pune-based Indian Institute of Tropical Meteorology to identify the contribution of different pollution sources showed stubble-burning accounted for 7.5 per cent of the air pollution in the capital on Thursday. It is likely to come down to 3.5 per cent on Friday and 3 per cent on Saturday.
An official of the Commission for Air Quality Management (CAQM) had earlier said stringent measures, including a ban on construction work and the entry of polluting trucks in the national capital, under the final stage of the central government's air pollution control plan called the Graded Response Action Plan (GRAP) will continue until further orders.
The Delhi government on Thursday set up a six-member special task force to ensure strict implementation of measures outlined in the GRAP in the capital. Delhi's special secretary (environment) will head the STF, whose members include senior officials from the departments of transport, traffic, revenue, Municipal Corporation of Delhi and Public Works Department.

Urination incident: Air India closes internal probe, to assist pilot in appeal against license suspension

In a statement, the airline said it accepts that, notwithstanding the mitigating circumstances, based on the letter of the CAR (Civil Aviation Requirement) it did not correctly classify the incident and therefore did not report it as required.

Nearly two months after the urination incident on its New York-New Delhi flight, Air India on Tuesday said it has closed the internal probe into the case and will assist the flight's pilot-in-command with an appeal against the suspension of his license by DGCA as the airline deems the action as "excessive".
Last week, the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) suspended the license of the pilot for three months, imposed a penalty of Rs 30 lakh on Air India and Rs 3 lakh on the director of the airline's in-flight services related to the urination incident that happened on November 26, 2022.
Tata group-owned Air India on Tuesday said it has closed the internal investigation into the actions of its crew operating and administrative staff supporting the AI 102 (New York-New Delhi) on November 26, 2022.
In a statement, the airline said it accepts that, notwithstanding the mitigating circumstances, based on the letter of the CAR (Civil Aviation Requirement) it did not correctly classify the incident and therefore did not report it as required.
"The crew and ground staff have been issued warning letters to henceforth adhere strictly to CAR definition of 'unruly' when reporting incidents onboard so that later investigation can assess the facts. The cabin crew and ground staff have been counselled and have since returned to duty," it said.

In a statement on Tuesday, DGCA said the incidents of passenger misbehaviour occurred on the AI-142 flight from Paris to New Delhi on December 6, 2022.

Aviation regulator DGCA on Tuesday imposed a fine of Rs 10 lakh on Air India for not reporting two incidents of unruly passenger behaviour onboard a Paris-New Delhi flight in December last year.
This is the second time in less than a week that the watchdog has taken enforcement action against the airline in connection with unruly passenger behaviour.
In a statement on Tuesday, DGCA said the incidents of passenger misbehaviour occurred on the AI-142 flight from Paris to New Delhi on December 6, 2022.
One drunk passenger was caught smoking in the lavatory and not adhering to the crew instructions, and another passenger allegedly relieved himself on a vacant seat and blanket of a fellow female passenger when she went to the lavatory, it said.
"Enforcement action in the form of a financial penalty of Rs 10,00,000 has been imposed on Air India for not reporting the incident to DGCA and delaying in referring the matter to its Internal Committee, which is a violation of applicable DGCA Civil Aviation Requirements," the statement said.

On Saturday, Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia said that Delhi government has withdrawn the new excise policy and directed for selling liquor from government run stores only.
However, according to a PTI report quoting sources,  preempting a chaos due to shutting of private liquor shops and time needed for opening government vends, a proposal is likely to be soon presented before Delhi Cabinet for extension to the 2021-22 policy. 
The 468 private liquor shops operating in the city will be shut from August 1 as the term of their licences and that of the new excise policy expire on July 31.
Meanwhile, the private liquor stores across the city on Saturday offered heavy discounts and schemes like one plus one free and one plus two free to sell their remaining stock.
With new policy gone, the excise licences issued to hotels, clubs and restaurants having bars, and wholesale operations will also become redundant apart from private run liquor stores in the city.  It means, there will be virtually no liquor supply from the wholesalers to the entire hospitality sector and retail vends in the city after July 31, till some alternate arrangements are made by the government, liquor trade experts claimed.
Sisodia said that the Chief Secretary has been asked to ensure that there is no chaos in the city during the transition period before opening of government liquor stores and also for keeping check on sale of illegal alcohol.
Officials said that the proposal for extension of excise policy was moved to Sisodia through Chief Secretary.
"After approval of Delhi Cabinet the proposal will be sent to the LG for his nod. The whole whole process may take around a week and till extension is granted after LG's approval, there will be shortage in the city," sources said.
No response was available from Delhi government or its Excise department about the arrangements being made to ensure liquor supply in the city after withdrawal of new excise policy.
President of National Restaurants Association of India (NRAI) Kabir Suri said that there was "lack of clarity" over the emerging situation and things will be clearer only with further instructions from the Delhi government.
Excise Policy 2021-22 extended twice before for two months each after April, will come to an end on July 31 as Delhi government has decided to go back to old excise regime and run liquor stores for coming six months.  The major shift, following a CBI probe recommended by Lt Governor into alleged violations of rules and procedural lapses in implementation of Excise Policy 2021-22, is also feared to disrupt entire supply chain of liquor in the city.
It will be second time within any year as the city is staring at a liquor shortage.
For thee weeks before new excise policy came into operation of private run liquor vends from November 17, 2021, there was shortage of alcohol in Delhi as government run stores and individual licensees were quitting retail business.

With new policy gone, the excise licences issued to hotels, clubs and restaurants having bars, and wholesale operations will also become redundant apart from private run liquor stores in the city. &nbsp;It means, there will be virtually no liquor supply from the wholesalers to the entire hospitality sector and retail vends in the city after July 31, till some alternate arrangements are made by the government, liquor trade experts claimed.
Sisodia said that the Chief Secretary has been asked to ensure that there is no chaos in the city during the transition period before opening of government liquor stores and also for keeping check on sale of illegal alcohol.
Officials said that the proposal for extension of excise policy was moved to Sisodia through Chief Secretary.
"After approval of Delhi Cabinet the proposal will be sent to the LG for his nod. The whole whole process may take around a week and till extension is granted after LG's approval, there will be shortage in the city," sources said.
No response was available from Delhi government or its Excise department about the arrangements being made to ensure liquor supply in the city after withdrawal of new excise policy.
President of National Restaurants Association of India (NRAI) Kabir Suri said that there was "lack of clarity" over the emerging situation and things will be clearer only with further instructions from the Delhi government.
Excise Policy 2021-22 extended twice before for two months each after April, will come to an end on July 31 as Delhi government has decided to go back to old excise regime and run liquor stores for coming six months. &nbsp;The major shift, following a CBI probe recommended by Lt Governor into alleged violations of rules and procedural lapses in implementation of Excise Policy 2021-22, is also feared to disrupt entire supply chain of liquor in the city.
It will be second time within any year as the city is staring at a liquor shortage.

For thee weeks before new excise policy came into operation of private run liquor vends from November 17, 2021, there was shortage of alcohol in Delhi as government run stores and individual licensees were quitting retail business.

App-based aggregators had already hiked their prices while there had been no revision in the prices of auto-rickshaws and taxis, whose fares are regulated by the government.
The <a href="https://www.editorji.com/business-news/cng-price-hike-cng-price-increased-by-rs-2-per-kg-in-delhi-second-hike-in-less-than-a-week-1653097551181" target="_blank">price of CNG </a>has risen to Rs 75.61 per kg within a span of over six months. It was Rs 52.04 on January 1 this year.

As early as next year, Delhi Metro will connect to the New Delhi railway station platforms directly.
