Rishikesh: Union Health and Family Welfare Minister Shri Jagat Prakash Nadda presided over the fifth convocation ceremony of AIIMS Rishikesh, today.
He was joined by Shri Pushkar Singh Dhami, Chief Minister, Uttarakhand; Shri Dhan Singh Rawat, Health and Education Minister, Uttarakhand; Members of Lok Sabha, Shri Ajay Bhatt, Shri Ajay Tamta and Shri Trivendra Singh Rawat; and Smt. Ritu Khanduri Bhushan, Speaker of Uttarakhand Legislative Assembly.
Addressing the gathering, Shri JP Nadda stated that &ldquo;convocation ceremony is a special occasion which marks recognition for the achievements made by students.&rdquo;
He said providing affordable and quality healthcare to every poor person in the country is a priority of the central government.
Shri JP Nadda highlighted the achievements of AIIMS institutes across the country in medical education and services.
He stated that &ldquo;till the advent of this century, India only had on AIIMS in the country. Today, there are 22 AIIMS operating in the country.&rdquo;
He stated that AIIMS Rishikesh has carved a unique identity among healthcare institutes due to its superior services.
He reiterated the central government&rsquo;s commitment to providing world-class healthcare for the citizenry.
&ldquo;The government is focused on providing healthcare which is not only curative but also preventive, palliative and rehabilitative&rdquo;, he stated.
Highlighting the achievements of the Union Government in the health sector, Shri Nadda stated, &ldquo;today, 1.75 lakh Ayushman Arogya Mandirs are operational across the country providing a range of services pertaining to healthcare and wellness. In the last 10 years, there has been a 101% increase in medical colleges, totaling 780 across the country.
There has been a 130% increase in MBBS seats while PG seats have seen an increase of 138% in the last 10 years&rdquo;.
&ldquo;Similarly, to cater to the paramedics, 157 nursing colleges are also being established, to be co-located with the medical colleges&rdquo;, he further stated.
The Union Health Minister appreciated AIIM Rishikesh for effectively utilizing the helicopter and drone services by rescuing 309 critical patients using the services.
He also congratulated AIIMS Rishikesh for being one of the best institutes in the country for using digital services like telemedicine (eSanjeevani) to serve the remote and underserved areas of the state.
Shri Nadda concluded his address by encouraging students to approach their work with compassion, integrity, and dedication. Emphasizing that the government spends between Rs. 30-35 lakh for every MBBS student, he urged the new doctors to shoulder more responsibilities as they embark on their professional careers.
During the event, Shri Nadda inaugurated several healthcare facilities to enhance the institute's medical services, including Integrated Medicine in the Ayush Department, a PET scan machine in the Nuclear Medicine Department, PACS facility in the Radiology Department, and a Centre for Advanced Pediatrics in Pediatric Care.
During the ceremony, Shri Nadda awarded gold medals and degrees to 10 medical students from MBBS, DM, MSc Nursing, BSc Nursing, and BSc Allied Health Sciences programs.
A total of 434 students received degrees during the convocation including 98 MBBS students, 95 BSc (Hons) Nursing students, 54 BSc Allied Health Sciences students, 109 MD/MS/MDS students, 17 MSc Nursing students, 1 MSc Medical Allied student, 12 Master of Public Health students, 40 DM/MCh students, and 8 PhD students. Speaking on the occasion, Shri Pushkar Singh Dhami said that India&rsquo;s healthcare sector has seen a significant uplift in the last decade with the launch of initiatives like Ayushman Bharat and establishment of new AIIMS and medical colleges.
He stated that AIIMS Rishikesh is providing quality and affordable healthcare services and facilities to people from across the state.
He stated that the institute is providing advanced medical treatment like robotic surgery, neuro surgery and radiation therapy to patients. He also highlighted the inauguration of Heli-ambulance services in AIIMS Rishikesh.
Shri Dhami also highlighted that today more than 5,000 Gram Panchayats in Uttarakhand are TB free. He stated the government is working to set up a medical college in every district of the state and expand the network of Jan Aushadi Kendras in the state.

Chandigarh, April 15: In a major stride toward its goal of eliminating tuberculosis (TB) as desired by the Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann, Health and Family Welfare Minister Dr Balbir Singh flagged off an advanced van equipped with handheld X-ray machine and fluorescent microscope from Directorate of Health and Family Welfare here on Tuesday.

Notably, the Indian Oil Corporation Limited (IOCL) under its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiative, in collaboration with the People-to-People Health Foundation has donated two handheld X-ray machines and two fluorescent microscopes to the Punjab Health Department.
While expressing gratitude to the IOCL, Dr Balbir Singh said that these machines will strengthen diagnostic capabilities in Sangrur and Malerkotla districts.
Underlining the need of early detection, Dr Balbir Singh said that, in Punjab, the 2020-21 survey revealed a prevalence-notification ratio of 2.8:1, underscoring the critical need for enhanced screening efforts.
Notably, the survey also found that over 40% of notified cases were asymptomatic and detected through X-ray findings, emphasizing the vital role of this diagnostic tool.
Recognizing the limitations of traditional fixed X-ray machines in reaching underserved populations, Punjab has embraced innovative solutions like handheld X-ray technology. Highlighting the importance of these machines, the Health Minister said that these compact and portable devices proved their effectiveness during the recent 100-day intensified TB campaign, where approximately 1.49 lakh X-rays were conducted in the field.
The addition of these two new handheld units, alongside two fluorescent microscopes also provided by IOCL, will empower healthcare workers in Sangrur and Malerkotla to conduct wider screenings and facilitate early diagnosis and treatment initiation among vulnerable communities.
"We are immensely grateful to IOCL and the People-to-People Health Foundation for their invaluable support in our mission to eliminate TB from Punjab," said Health Minister Dr. Balbir Singh during the flagging-off ceremony.
"These handheld X-ray machines represent a significant leap forward in our diagnostic capacity. Their portability will allow us to reach individuals in remote areas, work places like factories and congregation settings like old age homes, orphanages etc ensuring that more cases are detected early, leading to better treatment outcomes and ultimately saving lives.
&rdquo; The Health Minister emphasised the importance of public-private partnerships in tackling the TB crisis and lauded IOCL's commitment to this crucial public health issue.
He expressed confidence that these new resources would be effectively utilized to screen a larger population in Sangrur and Malerkotla, bringing the state closer to its TB elimination goals.
The Health Minister also acknowledged the potential of Artificial Intelligence in augmenting X-ray diagnostics, as recommended by the WHO, for faster and more accurate results. MD NHM Ghanshyam Thori, Director Health and Family Welfare Dr Hitinder Kaur, Director Health Services(Family Welfare) Dr Jasminder, Director (ESI) Dr Jaspreet Kaur and State TB Officer Dr Rajesh Bhaskar were also present on the occasion.

The event took place at BHEL Ground in Haridwar on the 135th birth anniversary of Dr Bhimrao Ambedkar.
CM Pushkar Singh Dhami said that the massive public turnout indicates that people have shown trust in this bold decision.
He stressed that the honour was for the ideology advocating justice and equality in Indian society. In his address, CM Dhami described Baba Saheb as a visionary.
He said Dr Ambedkar believed that true equality in society is not possible until every citizen of the country is granted equal rights. This belief inspired the UCC's inclusion in the Constitution. Dhami clarified that implementing the UCC is a major step towards social justice. 
The Chief Minister clarified that the Uttarakhand government has not just implemented a law, but has taken a major step toward social justice and equality.
CM Dhami emphasised that Dr. Ambedkar's ideas were neglected for years, and his ideas were sidelined.
Today's India, he noted, is moving towards realising Ambedkar's dreams. &ldquo;This is a new India &mdash; one that not only respects its heritage but also sets new standards by making bold decisions,&rdquo; he said.
The CM said that the crowd gathered in Haridwar is not just a gathering of people but a public voice trusting his decisions, and thanked Prime Minister Narendra Modi for his guidance.
CM Dhami also announced the construction of the Baba Saheb Samrasata Sthal in Haridwar which aims to educate future generations about the lives of social reformers and the Indian Constitution.
Multipurpose buildings will also be constructed in areas with a dominant Scheduled Castes/Scheduled Tribes population. Additionally, special awareness programs will be organised in schools and colleges through the Scheduled Caste Commission to inform the younger generation about welfare schemes and rights related to the Scheduled communities.&nbsp;

Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann on Monday warned the leaders of opposition parties to refrain from indulging in politics of threat and terror as people will never tolerate their divisive and mischievous attitude. The Chief Minister said that a senior leader of the Congress party had on Sunday given a baseless and irrational statement that 50 bombs have been sneaked into the state out of which 18 had exploded and 32 more are still there. He said that this illogical statement was solely aimed at terrorizing the people and creating panic amongst their minds. Bhagwant Singh Mann said that this is intolerable, unwarranted and undesirable as the people of state will never forgive such leaders. The Chief Minister said that neither state nor central agencies have any input in this regard but the Congress leader has made this false and irrelevant statement. Bhagwant Singh Mann said that this kind of apathetic and irresponsible attitude of the unwarranted and undesirable. Taking a jibe, he said that rather than telling the location of bombs Bajwa is now running pillar to post behind the lawyers for seeking refuge from law for his misdeed. The Chief Minister said that instead of indulging in such tantrums the opposition must focus on issue based politics. He said that the traditional parties are envious of him because he hails from a common family and is working tirelessly to ensure welfare of people. He said that wise people of state have ousted these leaders who were living in palatial houses during their heydays of power. The Chief Minister said that those who claimed that they will rule the state for 25 hours have been sent to political oblivion by the people. He said that the people of state had taught them a befitting lesson to such dubious and haughty leaders for their misdeeds. Bhagwant Singh Mann quipped that these people living in big palaces had never bothered about the well being of the common man and had confined them in high walls of their residences.

In a befitting tribute to Bharat Ratna Dr. BR Ambedkar on the occasion of his 134th birth anniversary, Punjab's Education Minister S. Harjot Singh Bains announced that the Government School of Eminence in Nangal has been renamed as Dr. Bhim Rao Ambedkar School of Eminence. Chairing an inauguration function at the government school, the Education Minister inaugurated 18 rooms modernised at a cost of Rs 1.24 crore, furniture worth Rs 51 lakh, and interactive panels worth Rs 7 lakh, besides laying foundation stone of an all-weather swimming pool to be built at a cost of Rs 4 crore in the school to further transforming the school into a centre of modern excellence. The Education Minister Harjot Singh Bains highlighted Dr. Ambedkar's lifelong fight for equality and the rights of marginalised communities. Bains said that government schools have been equipped with modern and state-of-the-art facilities including clean drinking water, separate toilets for girls and boys, boundary walls, high speed Wi-Fi internet connections, security guards, campus managers, and transportation for students. He said a few years ago, the condition of government schools was pitiful&mdash;students had to sit on the floors. Today, smart classrooms with modern furniture is available in every school, and the state schools are competing with private schools. Punjab's Sikhya Kranti is now a topic of discussion across the country, he added. CHANDIGARH: Amidst the ongoing fight against organised crime launched on the directions of Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann, Punjab Police&rsquo;s Anti-Gangster Task Force (AGTF) has busted a Lawrance Bishnoi-Rohit Godara gang with the arrest of the its two active operatives and recovered one .32 calibre pistol from their possession, said Director General of Police (DGP) Punjab Gaurav Yadav here on Tuesday.

Those arrested have been identified as Jashandeep Singh alias Jashan Sandhu, a resident of village 25ML in Sri Ganganagar district of Rajasthan and Gursewak Singh, a resident of Sri Muktsar Sahib.
DGP Gaurav Yadav said that accused Jashan Sandhu was wanted in a 2023-murder case took place in Ganganagar in Rajasthan and had been evading arrest by constantly changing locations across Georgia, Azerbaijan, Saudi Arabia and Dubai.
"Recently, on the directions of his handlers accused Jashan came back to India and landed in Nepal from Dubai before entering India by road in an attempt to escape law enforcement,&rdquo; he said.
The DGP said that preliminary investigations revealed that the accused, Jashan played a crucial role in providing logistical support to the gang.
His interrogation has also led to the identification of overseas Hawala operators, travel agents, and the locations of fugitive gangsters hiding abroad, marking a significant step in dismantling these networks, he added.
Sharing operational details, Additional Director General of Police (ADGP) AGTF Promod Ban said that acting swiftly on a specific input about Jashan entered India by road after landing in Nepal, special operation teams of AGTF under the supervision of AIG Gurmeet Chauhan and led by DSP Bikramjit Singh Brar along with teams worked on inputs and successfully traced Jashan along with his associate Gursewak, leading to their arrest from Mohali.
Police teams have recovered a .32 calibre pistol along with seven cartridges from their possession, he added.
AIG Gurmeet Chauhan said that preliminary investigations revealed that the accused Gursewak came in contact with Lawrance gang members through Jashan and was operating locally on their behalf.
"Their disclosures also revealed that Rohit Godara was planning to eliminate some prominent individuals in Punjab and New Delhi,&rdquo; he said, while adding that sensational crimes have been averted with their arrests.
The AIG said that further investigation is ongoing to trace the forward and backward linkages in this case.
A case FIR number 02 dated 07/04/2025 has been registered under sections 25 (6)(7) of the Arms Act at Police Station State Crime Punjab in SAS Nagar.

The villages visited included Chairian, Bahrampur, Chandpur, Dakala, Lohgarh Phidde, as well as the government primary school and sports ground in Bahrampur Chaklan.
Speaking on the occasion, Minister Sond announced that in an effort to promote a culture of sports and protect the youth from drug addiction, the Punjab Government will construct sports grounds in every village across the state.
He shared that approximately 13,000 villages will benefit from this initiative, with sports facilities tailored to local youth demand.
The grounds will include provisions for football, cricket, hockey, athletics, volleyball, handball, and other disciplines.
He highlighted that under the leadership of Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann, the Punjab Government has earmarked a budget of ₹979 crore to engage youth in sports and fitness.
In addition to sports grounds, gyms will be established in villages to encourage a healthy lifestyle.
Sond emphasized the importance of engaging youth in sports to deter them from social evils.
He also mentioned that athletes representing Punjab at national and international levels are recognized with cash rewards and given government job reservations to secure their future. During the visit to the Government Primary School in Chaklan, Manish Sisodia noted the remarkable transformation the school has undergone over the past three years.
He recalled that the school previously had dilapidated infrastructure, lacking basic amenities such as benches, clean drinking water, and functioning toilets. Today, it boasts modern facilities including benches, a sports ground, toilets, high-tech laboratories, a library, and secure boundary walls.
Sisodia reiterated the Punjab Government&rsquo;s commitment to enhancing the quality of education through the &ldquo;Punjab Sikhiya Kranti&rdquo; initiative.
He emphasized that the aim is to make Punjab a hub of excellence in education, ensuring a brighter and more prosperous future for the state.

The Lok Sabha early Thursday passed the Waqf (Amendment) Bill, 2025, after over a 12-hour debate, which saw the ruling NDA strongly defending the legislation as beneficial for minorities, while the opposition described it as "anti-Muslim".
The Bill was passed after all amendments moved by the opposition members were rejected by voice votes.
It was passed after a division of votes -- 288 in favour and 232 against. In his reply to the debate, Union Minorities Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju said there is no place in the world safer than India for minorities and they are safe because the majority is entirely secular.
He said even a minuscule minority community like the Parsis are safe in India and all minorities here live with pride. "Some members have said that minorities are not safe in India. This statement is completely false.
There is no place safer than India for minorities. I am also a minority and we all are living here without any fear and with pride," he said after the debate on the Bill. The minister said whenever a minority community faces persecution, it always comes to India to take refuge and cited the examples of the Dalai Lama and the Tibetan community, minorities of Pakistan, Bangladesh, Afghanistan, Myanmar and Sri Lanka. "Minorities of Bangladesh, Pakistan and Afghanistan came to India after facing religious persecution in their respective countries. How can you say that minorities are not safe in India. Very, very wrong to say this.
"The coming generation will never forgive you. Minorities in India are safe because the majorities of the country are fully secular. This is not the case in Pakistan, Bangladesh and Afghanistan. But still, you abuse us," he said. Rijiju said, through the Bill, the NDA government is going to unify all minorities in the country.
He also highlighted the "wholehearted" support of the Christian community for the Bill. He said a large number of disputes are pending with the Waqf tribunals and through the legislation, the government wants to expedite these cases.
"We want to expedite the resolution of the disputes in the tribunals. Justice delayed is justice denied. Widows, divorcees, and orphans will be given justice through the Bill," he said.
Earlier, making an intervention in the debate, Union Home Minister Amit Shah asserted that a vote bank was being created by intimidating minorities and confusion being spread in the country in the name of the Waqf bill.
"The Narendra Modi government runs on a very clear principle that we will not bring any law for vote bank because law is for justice and welfare of people," he said, adding, "Everyone has the right to follow their religion, but conversion cannot be done for greed, temptation and fear."
He stressed that it has become a fashion to create fear among the people of the minority community. "It is the resolve of the Modi government that no citizen of this country, irrespective of his religion, will be harmed," Shah said.
He said the non-Muslims in Waqf council and boards are meant purely to ensure the administration of properties in accordance with stated aims. Shah said if there had not been an amendment in the Wakf Act in 2013, there would have been no need to bring this legislation.
"Elections were due in 2014 and in 2013, the extreme Wakf law was made overnight for the purpose of appeasement. As a result, 123 properties in Delhi's Lutyen's Zone were handed over to the Wakf just 25 days before the elections," he said.
He said a vote bank was being consolidated by intimidating minorities and confusion being spread to strike fear among minorities. Earlier, there was no provision to include any non-Muslim among those who run religious institutions and the NDA government is not going to do it either, he said.
Congress MP Gaurav Gogoi said the INDIA bloc will oppose the proposed changes to the Waqf law and called the Bill an attack on the basic structure of the Constitution. He accused the government of misleading Parliament, referencing past discussions on the matter.
"This Bill is an attack on the basic structure of our Constitution, an attack on our federal structure, and has four primary objectives: to dilute the Constitution, to defame minority communities, to divide Indian society, and to disenfranchise minorities," he alleged. Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav claimed that the Bill was a BJP ploy for polarisation following its reverses in the 2024 Lok Sabha polls.
He claimed the Bill would send a wrong message to the world and dent the country's secular image. The Bill will prove to be a "Waterloo" for the BJP as some of its allies might be claiming to support the legislation but inside they are not happy about it, he said. Participating in the debate, AIMIM chief Asaduddin Owaisi staged a symbolic protest by tearing up a copy of the Bill.
Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi, in a post on X, called the Waqf Bill a weapon, aimed at marginalising Muslims and usurping their personal laws and property rights. "This attack on the Constitution by the RSS, BJP and their allies is aimed at Muslims today but sets a precedent to target other communities in the future," he said.
According to the Waqf (Amendment) Bill, Waqf tribunals will be strengthened, a structured selection process will be maintained, and a tenure will be fixed to ensure efficient dispute resolution.
As per the Bill, while Waqf institutions' mandatory contribution to Waqf boards is reduced from 7 per cent to 5 per cent, Waqf institutions earning over Rs 1 lakh will undergo audits by state-sponsored auditors. A centralised portal will automate Waqf property management, improving efficiency and transparency. The Bill proposes that practising Muslims (for at least five years) can dedicate their property to the Waqf, restoring pre-2013 rules. It stipulates that women must receive their inheritance before the Waqf declaration, with special provisions for widows, divorced women and orphans.
The Bill proposes that an officer above the rank of collector investigate government properties claimed as Waqf. It also proposes that non-Muslim members be included in the central and state Waqf boards for inclusivity.

The additional chief secretary, labour, and the director, training and employment, will head departmental committees at their level. The government has already allocated ₹200 crore to kickstart the Mission. A key focus will be assessing job opportunities abroad and setting up centres to offer foreign language training and career guidance. If job seekers lack specific skills, training programs will help bridge those gaps. To tackle language barriers, the plan includes setting up four to five foreign language training centres across the state. These centres will teach key languages to help candidates adapt better when working overseas. This initiative is part of the government&rsquo;s broader effort to create more employment opportunities and equip young people with the skills needed to compete in the global job market.

He slammed the United Nations for making the Kashmir invasion a dispute and turning the attacker and victim at par and called for having a "strong and fair" UN. In his remarks at the Session on 'Thrones and Thorns: Defending the Integrity of Nations' at Raisina Dialogue on Tuesday, Jaishankar called the occupation of some parts of Kashmir by Pakistan "the longest standing illegal occupation" of territory by another country after the Second World War.
When asked about his earlier remarks, where he said, "If you don't have an order, then you are looking at a very anarchic world', Jaishankar responded, "Look, I think we do need an international order just like we need a domestic order.
Just like you need a society in a country, you need an international version of that and its not just big countries who will benefit if there is no order.
I would argue that any country which would take risks, which would have an extreme position, which would test the system will actually use the disorder to its advantage. I mean we have seen it in our own neighbourhood. You don't have to be a big country to be a risky country. I have smaller neighbours who have done a pretty good job.
So, first of all, we should all understand the importance of an order." "Now, the old order, it was an order, it was a product of its times.
But, why I felt its virtuals were exaggerated was I think the rule maker and rule taker had somewhat different perspective because I also said in the same interview that if you are at the receiving end of those rules or the application of those rules, we had issues and let me give you two or three practical examples.
You know, if you capriciously, you know, if it suits your interests, somebody is good, not good, well, I'll make up my mind how they're going to do and you apply that order to the same country on the same issues differently," he added.
He said that the Taliban was welcomed in the Doha process and Oslo. He stressed that when it suits to deal with the Taliban, it is okay and when it is not, it is called extremist.
"Take Afghanistan, so, the same Afghanistan, the same Taliban which was an outlier was welcomed in the Doha process, was welcomed in Oslo, apparently, at that time people were okay with it.
Today again we going back saying, Taliban is doing all these not so good things. Now, if they were doing all of that. what was discussed in Oslo and Doha. You know you had a British general who described them at that time as they are country boys with their own honour code.
Now, so when it suits you to deal with the Taliban, they are okay. When it is not, they are not okay. You are an extremist today, you wear a suit and tie, you are okay.
You know, I think I have a problem with that all," Jaishankar said. The EAM termed sovereignty and territorial integrity the "bedrock of global rules."
He also spoke on political interference, where he mentioned that when the West goes into other nations, it is "apparently in the perseverance of democratic freedoms." However, he noted that when other nations come into the West, it appears to have a "very malign intention."
Jaishankar said, "Let's give you a second example. We all speak of sovereignty and territorial integrity. All of us agree. It's a vital principle. It's a bedrock of global rules. After the Second World War, the longest standing illegal, I would say presence, occupation of a territory by another country pertains to India, what we saw in Kashmir. Now we went to the UN, what was an invasion was made into a dispute. So the attacker and the victim were put on par. Who were the culpable parties? UK, Canada, Belgium, Australia, USA. So, pardon me, I have some question marks on that one. Now, I can give you many more. We speak today of political interference. When the West goes out into other countries, it's apparently in perseverance of democratic freedoms. When other countries come into the West, it seems to have a very malign intention."
Calling for a strong and fair UN, EAM Jaishankar said, "So I think we need to have an order, there must be fairness. agree with you, Dominique, we need a strong UN, but a strong UN requires a fair UN.
A strong global order must have some basic consistency of standards. We have military crews to our east in Myanmar. They are no-no.
We have them even more regularly to the west. You know where? They seem to be okay. I think it's important to audit the working of the world for the last eight decades and be honest about it and to understand today that the balances, the share holdings in the world have changed. We need a different conversation. We need frankly in that sense a different order."

In his letter to the President, Mr. Grewal commended her commitment to initiatives aimed at uplifting the weaker sections of society. He highlighted the persistent neglect faced by safai sewaks, the frontline workers responsible for maintaining public cleanliness, by successive central governments.
These workers, Mr. Grewal argued, have been overlooked despite their critical role in promoting health and hygiene across communities.
He lamented that the rights of these essential workers remain unprotected, a situation exacerbated by their employment under contractual terms.
Such arrangements, he noted, lead to their systematic exploitation, insecurity in employment, and insufficient wages. While acknowledging that Punjab has prohibited the contractual hiring of sanitary workers, Mr. Grewal pointed out the dismal conditions prevailing in other regions of the country.
He called upon the President to intervene and urge the Government of India to introduce legislation in Parliament that would abolish the contractual employment system for sanitary workers nationwide, thereby securing their rights and livelihoods.

&nbsp;BJP leader Sambit Patra on Tuesday posted a picture of Rahul Gandhi walking with a hijab-clad girl during the Bharat Jodo Yatra and accused him of indulging in appeasement politics, triggering a backlash from Congress leaders who slammed Patra for his remarks.
Posting a picture of <a href="https://www.editorji.com/india-news/politics/even-if-rahul-gandhi-isn-t-congress-chief-chidambaram-on-party-election-cites-bjp-consensus-example-1663552728026">Rahul Gandhi</a> walking with the girl wearing a hijab, Patra tweeted in Hindi, "When votes are accounted for on the basis of religion&hellip; then it is called appeasement." "It's one thing to be rattled by the huge crowds in the <a href="https://www.editorji.com/india-news/politics/bharat-jodo-yatra-rahul-gandhi-interacts-with-fishermen-discusses-reduced-subsidies-1663586511877">Bharat Jodo Yatra</a> - but to be blinded by hate like this. You are the pits!" she said.
Responding to Shrinate's tweet, Congress general secretary in-charge communications Jairam Ramesh said, "Worse than the pits." The Congress has accused the BJP of resorting to disinformation and falsehood on the 'Bharat Jodo Yatra', and said it shows the "fear" and "frustration" of <a href="https://www.editorji.com/india-news/we-want-to-transform-india-into-a-manufacturing-hub-pm-1663314410565">Prime Minister Narendra Modi </a>and the saffron party's leadership at the success of the yatra.&nbsp;

One person was killed and 11 others critically injured as two motorcycle-borne gunmen went on a rampage in Bihar's Begusarai district on Tuesday, firing indiscriminately at people in crowded areas, police said. 
The assailants are yet to be identified, they said.
The gunmen opened fire at Malhipur Chowk in Begusarai town on Tuesday evening, targeting shops in the busy area, a police officer said.
Panicked people started running for their lives, while shopkeepers fled leaving shops open.
The miscreants then went to Barauni Thermal Chowk, Barauni, Teghra, Bachwara and Rajendra Bridge, and continued firing at people, he said.
A 30-year-old man, Chandan Kumar, was killed and 11 others were critically injured in the mayhem, Superintendent of Police Yogendra Kumar told reporters.
Some of the injured were admitted to the government hospital in Begusarai, while others were sent to Patna for better treatment, he said.
Security has been beefed up in the district, and all the entry points have been barricaded after the incident.
"Investigation is underway. We will soon nab the accused," the SP added.

Thousands of UAE residents are making a beeline to get the first glimpse of the new Hindu temple in Dubai after its soft opening earlier this month.
The temple, which will be officially open to the public from October 5 -- the day of the Dussehra festival, welcomes people of all faiths and has allowed entry to worshippers and other visitors for viewing the 16 deities and other interior works, the Gulf News reported on Sunday.
The soft opening of the temple was held on September 1 with the temple management activating the QR-code based appointment booking system via its website.
From day one, the temple has been receiving a large number of visitors, especially over the weekends. The restricted entry has been regulated through QR-coded appointments for crowd management and to ensure social distancing, the report said.
The temple is open from 6.30 am to 8 pm.
Appointments for most weekends till the end of October have already been booked. The booking system will continue till the end of October after which members of the public will be free to visit the temple any time during its opening hours.
The only activity that is currently being done is the chanting of Vedic shlokas by a group of 14 pandits, who have specially come over from India.
This takes place every day from 7.30 am to 11 am and again from 3.30 pm till 8.30 pm. Visitors are allowed to take part in the chants.
Majority of the deities are installed in the main prayer hall that has a large 3D-printed pink lotus unfurling across the central dome.
Located in what is described as the ‘Worship Village’ in Jebel Ali that houses several churches and the Guru Nanak Darbar Gurudwara, the temple has also installed the Guru Granth Sahib, the Holy Book of the Sikhs, in August.

Doctors and staff at government hospitals in Bihar&rsquo;s Patna were caught off guard when state Deputy Chief minister Tejashwi Yadav conducted a surprise check.&nbsp;
The young politician who is also the state health minister turned up wearing casual clothes past midnight to take a stock of conditions at the hospitals.&nbsp;
The hospitals where the deputy CM conducted surprise checks included PMCH, the state's largest government health facility, besides the hospitals at Gardiner Road and Gardani Bagh.
During his visits, Yadav was visibly displeased at the lack of cleanliness on the premises, poor availability of medicines and the apparent indifference towards their duty by those on the night roster.
He even pulled up Patna Medical College&rsquo;s superintendent who was all set to go to bed in his office during duty hours moments before Tejashwi Yadav arrived.&nbsp;
Notably, the health department had remained with the BJP for the entire period and Nitish Kumar remained an NDA ally.

Narendra Kumar, who is RSS' Akhil Bharatiya Sah Prachar Pramukh, or a senior leader in the publicity wing, said that it is the responsibility of reporters to reduce "negativity" in news.
He was speaking at an event organised by Vishwa Sanvad Kendra in Maharashtra's Nagpur on May 23. The RSS leader said that journalism began in India with positive views.
He added, "The theory of negative journalism has come from the West. Their thoughts mostly move towards negative things...they are directed towards negativity only as they have never done good works. When they (the West) moved around the world with their thoughts and thinking, they destroyed the culture of others, finished their beliefs and signs of faith."
Kumar also criticised efforts to form a particular narrative in news, education, and history.
