An Indian student died in London after being run over by a truck on March 19. &nbsp; &nbsp; The 33-year-old deceased, identified as Cheistha Kochhar, was doing her PhD at the London School of Economics. She has earlier worked at NITI Aayog. Kochar was hit by a garbage truck while she was cycling home. &nbsp; Former NITI Aayog CEO Amitabh Kant posted about the incident on X saying, "Cheistha Kochar worked with me on the #LIFE programme in @NITIAayog. She was in the #Nudge unit and had gone to do her Ph.D in behavioural science at #LSE. Passed away in a terrible traffic incident while cycling in London. She was bright, brilliant &amp; brave and always full of life. Gone away too early. RIP.&rdquo;&nbsp; Her husband Prashant, who was cycling ahead of her during the accident, rushed her to the hospital where she was declared dead. &nbsp; The driver of the truck, who was stopped at the scene, is currently helping police with enquiries. So far, no arrest has been made.

Former IAS officer B V R Subrahmanyam was on Monday appointed as the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Niti Aayog replacing Parameswaran lyer, who has been named as the Executive Director of World Bank.
Subrahmanyam, a 1987-batch Indian Administrative Service (IAS) officer of Chhattisgarh cadre, was last year appointed as chairman and managing director, India Trade Promotion Organisation (ITPO) on contract basis for a period of two years after his superannuation on September 30.
The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet has approved Subrahmanyam's appointment for a period of two years from the date of assumption of the charge of the post, a Personnel Ministry order said.
Iyer, who was working as Niti Aayog CEO, has been appointed as Executive Director, World Bank headquarters, Washington DC, USA for a tenure of three years, it said.
He will be replacing Rajesh Khullar, a 1988-batch IAS officer, who has been repatriated to his cadre state Haryana, the order said.
Iyer was on June 24, 2022, appointed as Niti Aayog CEO for a period of two years.

Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao has boycotted the meeting. He said that the Centre's think tank and its meetings serve "no constructive purpose" and that participating chief ministers are given "hardly a few minutes" to express their views.
In a letter to Modi, KCR expressed his anguish against the central government for not giving states the "flexibility to design and modify schemes based on their needs".

On the same day, Bihar CM Nitish Kumar skipped the NITI Aayog meeting chaired by PM Modi in Delhi. Nitish cited post-Covid issues, according to sources quoted in news reports. However, the Bihar CM reportedly attended an event in Patna on the occasion of National Handloom Day.
Meanwhile, JD(U)'s president fired salvos at RCP Singh, who resigned from the party on 6 August after being denied a Rajya Sabha ticket due to which he lost his Union Cabinet berth. Rajiv Ranjan Singh said that for a long time, RCP Singh was physically in JD(U) but his soul had been elsewhere.
A day earlier, RCP Singh called the JD(U) a sinking ship, and said that Nitish Kumar would not become Prime Minister even in seven lives.

Niti Aayog Member VK Paul, who is also the chief of an expert panel coordinating efforts to tackle the pandemic in the country, on Sunday said that&nbsp;there is a possibility of a second wave of infections in the winter season. In an interview to PTI, he said that once the Covid-19 vaccine is available, there will be enough resources to deliver as well as make it accessible to the citizens.&nbsp;Amid a decline in the number of cases,&nbsp; Paul,&nbsp;who heads the National Expert Group on Vaccine Administration for Covid-19,&nbsp;said there five states&nbsp;Kerala, Karnataka, Rajasthan, Chhattisgarh and West Bengal&nbsp;and&nbsp;3-4 Union Territories the&nbsp;cases are&nbsp;still&nbsp;showing&nbsp;a rising trend.&nbsp;According to him, the country still has a long way to go because 90 per cent of the people are still susceptible to coronavirus infections.&nbsp;

In an interview to PTI, he said that once the Covid-19 vaccine is available, there will be enough resources to deliver as well as make it accessible to the citizens.&nbsp;Amid a decline in the number of cases,&nbsp; Paul,&nbsp;who heads the National Expert Group on Vaccine Administration for Covid-19,&nbsp;said there five states&nbsp;Kerala, Karnataka, Rajasthan, Chhattisgarh and West Bengal&nbsp;and&nbsp;3-4 Union Territories the&nbsp;cases are&nbsp;still&nbsp;showing&nbsp;a rising trend.&nbsp;According to him, the country still has a long way to go because 90 per cent of the people are still susceptible to coronavirus infections.&nbsp;

Russia has approached India for conducting phase-3 clinical trial and manufacturing of its Covid-19 vaccine Sputnik V by Indian firms. The Indian govt has said that it is working to facilitate Moscow's request. Niti Aayog member Dr V K Paul, who also chairs the national expert group on Covid-19 vaccine administration, has said that Indian scientists have looked at the data on Sputnik V, which is in the public domain now, and there would be a need for the phase-3 trial. Dr Kaul said that that there has been considerable movement on Russia's request and several Indian companies are currently studying the proposal.

New Delhi, PTI: India is considering Russia's request for conducting phase-3 clinical trial and manufacturing of its Covid-19 vaccine Sputnik V by Indian firms, officials said Tuesday. There has been "significant movement" on both these fronts and specific outcomes are expected soon.
Dr V K Paul, Member (Health) Niti Aayog, who also chairs the national expert group on Covid-19 vaccine administration, said the government attaches "great importance to this offer of partnership from a very special friend to this nation".
He said that Indian scientists have looked at the data on Sputnik V, which is in the public domain now, and there would be a need for the phase -3 trial.
&ldquo;We are paving way for such a phase-3 trial or bridging studies, as per requirements of the regulatory system, to be facilitated by the government of India," he told a press conference here.
The Russian government has approached the government of India through appropriate channels to consider the manufacturing of Sputnik V through Indian companies and also conducting its phase-3 clinical trials here, Paul said.
"On both the tracks there has been significant movement,&rdquo; he said.
Several Indian companies are currently studying the proposal, he said.
"The outreach has been extended to several companies in India and a few of them have come forward while others are in discussions with the Russian counterparts and the government is facilitating that process of how that connect can be made. And there may be specific outcomes very soon in that regard," Paul said.
It is a "win-win situation" for India and the world, he said, underlining the county's ability to manufacture high quality vaccine in large and significant quantities.
It is good for Russia, good for India, and also excess capacities or specific part of the capacities can be offered to the rest of the world, he said.
Sputnik V has been developed by Russia's Gamaleya Research Institute of Epidemiology and Microbiology, along with the Russian Direct Investment Fund (RDIF). The vaccine has not been tested in phase-3 or larger clinical trials.
