The BJP's election manifesto, which was released on April 14, set some ambitious targets to make Viksit Bharat by 2047.
Notably, the party chose to refer to the country as Bharat in the manifesto.
Titled 'Modi ki Guarantee 2024', the manifesto also talked about implementing the Uniform Civil Code and curbing the reach of the Armed Forces Special Powers Act in northeastern states.&nbsp; But, it has remained silent on the contentious National Registrar of Citizens (NRC), which was the party's poll plank in 2019.
At that time, the BJP had promised to expedite the NRC process in Assam and actively consider its extension to other states.&nbsp; It had said that NRC was necessary to curb illegal migration.
In the 2024 manifesto, while the BJP makes no reference to NRC, it promises to confer citizenship under the CAA to persecuted minorities of neighbouring countries who migrated to India before 2024.&nbsp;
The BJP promised to include all senior citizens above the age of 70 years in the &lsquo;Ayushman Bharat&rsquo; scheme, which provides health insurance of up to Rs 5 lakh.
It also spoke of considering bullet trains in north, south and east India and expanding &ldquo;new age&rdquo; trains like Vande Bharat, Amrit Bharat and Namo Bharat.
Promising to strengthen the sports ecosystem to make India a world leader in sports, the BJP manifesto - Sankalp Patra - said its government will facilitate the Indian Olympic Association to bid for hosting the Olympic Games in 2036.
In his speech, Modi dwelt largely on his vision for boosting the country&rsquo;s development, asserting that the manifesto reflects the aspirations of a young India with its focus on quality and dignity of life and creating opportunities, both quantitatively and qualitatively high, for the young population.
He noted that the world is full of uncertainties amid conflicts and the safety of Indians living in such a situation is the government&rsquo;s priority.
At such a time, there is a need for a strong and stable government having a full majority, he said.
The manifesto, in its outreach to the poor, highlights the government&rsquo;s decision to continue with the free ration scheme for over 80 crore people for the next five years and vows to protect the &ldquo;garib ki thali&rdquo; against any price pressure. It promises to expand the housing scheme for them and provide them with free electricity with its solar rooftop scheme.
For the middle class, it promises several measures to fulfil their dream of owning a house, creating high-value jobs and improved infrastructure for living.
The ruling party highlighted the government&rsquo;s efforts to empower three crore rural women to become &ldquo;Lakhpati Didis&rdquo; and underscored its commitment to their greater participation in sports and building and maintaining public toilets for them.

The Manipur Assembly has unanimously adopted two private member resolutions to set up a state population commission and implement the National Register of Citizens (NRC). Attributes state's population growth to influx by 'outsiders'.


The resolutions were moved by JD(U) legislator Joykishan as he raised concerns over the alleged infiltration of so-called outsiders into Manipur.&nbsp;

The Manipur Assembly has unanimously adopted two private member resolutions to set up a state population commission and implement the National Register of Citizens (NRC).
The resolutions were moved by JD(U) legislator Kh Joykishan on Friday, the last day of the budget session of the state assembly.
He claimed that the hill areas of the state saw a population growth of 153.3 per cent between 1971 and 2001, and it mounted to 250.9 per cent during the 2001-2011 period.
The valley areas also recorded a population growth of 94.8 per cent from 1971 to 2001 and around 125 per cent from 2001 to 2011, Joykishan stated. The JD(U) MLA raised his concern over the alleged infiltration of outsiders into Manipur.
He claimed that there are restrictions on people from the valley districts for settling in the hills, and the whopping population growth, particularly in the hills, could be attributed to the alleged influx of people from outside.

Chief Minister N Biren Singh participated in the discussion on the resolutions and said such motions to establish a population commission and implement the NRC in the state would serve the collective interests of all the members of the House.
Meanwhile, several civic bodies demanded an updated NRC with a fixed cut-off base year to identify illegal immigrants in the northeastern state.

10,000 ineligible names to be deleted from final NRC in Assam

PTI,&nbsp;Guwahati:&nbsp;Around 10,000 names will be deleted from the final NRC in Assam as many "ineligible persons" and their descendants were included in the list, according to a directive issued by its state coordinator Hitesh Dev Sarma and officials in the know of the decision.
Sarma wrote to all the Deputy Commissioners and District Registrar of Citizen Registration (DRCR) on Tuesday, directing them to issue speaking orders for the deletion of such names.
"...as per the reports received from your end through Webform, some names of ineligible persons belonging to the categories of DF (declared foreigners)/DV ('D' voters)/PFT (pending in Foreigners Tribunals) along with their descendants have found entry to the NRC," he said.
Sarma directed the district officials to issue orders for deletion of such names from the NRC as per Clause 4(6) of the Schedule under the Citizenship (Registration of Citizens and Issue of National Identity Cards) Rules, 2003 after "specifically ascertaining the identity of the person".
Explaining the rule and some other relevant clauses, Sarma pointed out that the authorities concerned can verify and include or exclude any name at any time before the publication of the final NRC.
Though the final National Register of Citizens for Assam was made public in August last year, it is yet to be notified by the Registrar General of India, leaving the historic and controversial document without any official validity.
"You are, therefore, requested to submit the list of such persons who are not eligible for having their names in the NRC along with speaking order justifying reasons for each cases for necessary action for deletion of such names," Sarma said in the letter.
A software application for submission of the reviewed results of such persons along with mechanism for uploading of the scanned freshly written speaking orders will be rolled out shortly, he added.
"The verification would mandatorily require the correct identity of the person so that no ambiguity arises in future as far as identification of the person is concerned," the letter to the districts said.
Though the letter did not mention how many people will be excluded, persons in the know of the development said that around 10,000 people have been identified whose names were "wrongly included" in the final NRC and will now be excluded.
"This is a mix of all communities. The figure looks a bit big because it includes the descendants of the persons from the three categories mentioned in the letter," a source said.
The final NRC was released on August 31 last year, excluding the names of 19,06,657 persons. A total of 3,11,21,004 names were included out of 3,30,27,661 applicants.
After the publication of the final NRC, almost all stakeholders and political parties criticised it as a faulty document, alleging exclusion of indigenous people and the inclusion of illegal immigrants.
On August 31 this year, Parliamentary Affairs Minister Chandra Mohan Patowary said in the Assembly that the Assam government had submitted an affidavit in the Supreme Court for re-verification of 20 per cent names in districts bordering Bangladesh and 10 per cent in the rest.
