Kharge accused Dhankhar of deviating from the tradition of neutrality, arguing that his actions reflected more politics than procedure. Prime Minister Narendra Modi said on Tuesday that the no-confidence motion brought by the opposition is a reflection of mutual distrust among INDIA bloc parties as they want to test who is with their proposal and who is not, sources said.
In his address to party MPs at the BJP parliamentary meeting, he described the opposition alliance as 'ghamandia' (marked by arrogance) and congratulated the party's Rajya Sabha members for the "semi-final" win in voting on the Delhi services bill.
Modi, sources said, noted that some opposition members had described the voting in Rajya Sabha as a semi-final before the 2024 Lok Sabha polls as he exuded confidence about the BJP's prospects in the national elections.
The Delhi services bill secured parliamentary approval on Monday after the Rajya Sabha passed the contentious measure that will give the Centre control over bureaucracy in the national capital, with the BJP-led NDA thwarting opposition challenge in the keenly-watched numbers game.
With the ruling party certain to defeat the no-confidence motion in Lok Sabha, where it enjoys a strong majority, Modi told party MPs hit "sixers" on the last ball before the 2024 polls.
He also referred to his 2018 speech in which he had wryly wished to the Opposition to bring a no-confidence motion against his government in 2023.
In a swipe at opposition parties, the prime minister said their leaders speak of social justice but harmed it most with their dynastic, appeasement and corrupt politics.

Some parties of the opposition INDIA alliance are likely to move a notice for a no-confidence motion against the government in the Lok Sabha in an attempt to make Prime Minister Narendra Modi speak in Parliament on the Manipur violence, sources said on Tuesday.
A proposal to submit the notice was discussed at a meeting of the constituents of the Indian National Developmental Inclusive Alliance (INDIA) on Tuesday morning.
It was decided after weighing various options that this would be an effective way to compel the government to initiate a discussion on the issue, the sources said.
The opposition strategy to corner the government on Manipur will continue in the Rajya Sabha as well, the sources said. "I am not aware of their move but if they are doing so they should know that last time they brought a no-confidence motion, BJP came back to power with a stronger majority of over 300 seats and the same will happen again and we will get more than 350 seats," Parliamentary Affairs Minister Pralhad Joshi said in response.
The first no-confidence motion against the Modi government in the Lok Sabha was moved on July 20, 2018. The National Democratic Alliance (NDA) won with a thumping majority with 325 MPs voting no and only 126 in favour of the no-confidence motion.
Although there was little doubt over the outcome of the 2018 no-trust vote on the floor of the Lower House because of the sheer number of MPs in the NDA&rsquo;s kitty, the debate gave an opportunity for the opposition to attack the government on a range of issues including farm distress, slow economic growth and rising incidents of mob lynching.&nbsp;

The Opposition meeting coincides with the NDA meeting convened on July 18 in Delhi, where some new allies are likely to join the ruling BJP-led coalition.

As many as 17 opposition parties on Friday resolved to fight the 2024 Lok Sabha elections unitedly to defeat the BJP and work with flexibility by setting aside their differences.
Addressing a joint press conference after an almost four-hour-long meeting, during which leaders of 17 parties expressed their views, Bihar chief minister Nitish Kumar said the leaders will meet in the next few days to give final shape to their plan of fighting together.
"We had a good meeting and several leaders expressed their views during the meeting. 17 parties have decided to work together and contest the Lok Sabha elections unitedly," he told reporters.
Kumar, who hosted the first such meeting, said they were working in the national interest and accused the BJP of acting against the national interest as it was trying to change the country's history.
Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge announced that the next meeting of opposition leaders would be held in Shimla in Himachal Pradesh next month.
"We have decided to prepare a common agenda and will take decisions in the next meeting on how to move forward," he said.
"We will have to evolve separate plans for every state and we will work together to dethrone the BJP at the Centre," he said.
Congress leader Rahul Gandhi said, "We may have some differences but have decided to work together with flexibility and will work to protect our ideology".

Sources said the meeting was being seen as a starting point for the Opposition to come together to take on the Narendra Modi-led BJP. Therefore, a basic outline and roadmap for Opposition unity are likely to be deliberated upon with the contentious issue of seat sharing and leadership questions to be avoided for now, they said.
"This is just the beginning. A meeting of minds is important. The strategy, leadership question and seat sharing are unlikely to be discussed at this stage," a senior Opposition leader said on condition of anonymity.
The leader said issues that the Opposition would jointly raise to corner the BJP would be at the top of the agenda and in this context the Manipur violence and the Centre's alleged failure there are likely to be discussed.

BJP began its 2-day National Executive meet in Delhi on Monday. Addressing a press conference at NDMC Convention Centre, New Delhi, FM Nirmala Sitharaman said that various topics were discussed during the meeting today which included the discussion on the Opposition's derogatory remarks on Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
"There have been detailed discussions over 9 points introduced in the resolution for this year's NEC. The first discussion was on how opposition parties are using abusive language for attacking PM Modi ji," Sitharaman said.
Accusing the Opposition of continuously running negative campaigns against the BJP and PM Modi, the Minister said that the Supreme Court "crushed" their campaigns and "exposed them".
"Opposition continuously ran negative campaigns against BJP and used abusive language to attack PM on many issues like Pegasus, Rafael deal, Enforcement Directorate money laundering, Central Vista, Economic basis-reservations, Demonetization. All these cases were fought in court and judgement has been in favour of the central govt. SC crushed Opposition's negative campaigns and exposed them through legal responses," she said.

Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar continues to take the lead in stitching together a united Opposition for the 2024 Lok Sabha elections. On 25 September 2022, the Janata Dal (United) leader met Congress leader Sonia Gandhi at her residence in Delhi. Nitish Kumar was accompanied by his foe-turned-friend Lalu Prasad Yadav.
The agenda of the meeting was to agree on making compromises for Opposition unity, according to an ANI report. Another issue on the table was Nitish and Lalu reportedly seeking Sonia's consensus for approaching regional parties whom the Congress has stayed away from in recent years.

Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar continues to take the lead in stitching together a united Opposition for the 2024 Lok Sabha elections. On 25 September 2022, the Janata Dal (United) leader met Congress leader Sonia Gandhi at her residence in Delhi. Nitish Kumar was accompanied by his foe-turned-friend Lalu Prasad Yadav.
The agenda of the meeting was to agree on making compromises for Opposition unity, according to an ANI report. Another issue on the table was Nitish and Lalu reportedly seeking Sonia's consensus for approaching regional parties whom the Congress has stayed away from in recent years.
Earlier in the day, many Opposition leaders attended an INLD rally in Haryana's Fatehabad.

Bihar CM Nitish Kumar met left leaders on Tuesday in Delhi on the second day of his maiden visit to the national capital since he broke ties with the BJP, and discussed ways to ensure Opposition unity to challenge the saffron party’s 2024 prospects.

Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar met left leaders on Tuesday in Delhi on the second day of his maiden visit to the national capital since he broke ties with the BJP, and discussed ways to ensure Opposition unity to challenge the saffron party’s prospects in the 2024 general elections.  

Putting all speculations to rest over his visit to the capital being a move to claim leadership of the opposition parties, Kumar asserted that he is "neither a claimant for the prime minister's post nor desirous of it."&nbsp;

The Janata Dal (United) chief first met Communist Party of India-Marxist (CPI-M) General Secretary Sitaram Yechury, followed by a meeting with General Secretary D Raja at the CPI headquarters.
After the meeting, Kumar said, "I have had a long association with the CPI-M from my younger days. You all have not seen me, but whenever I used to come to Delhi, I used to come to this office. Today we are again all together. Our entire focus is to unite all Left parties, the regional parties, Congress. This will be a big deal if all of us come together."
Meanwhile, putting all speculations to rest over his visit to the capital being a move to claim leadership of the opposition parties, Kumar asserted that he is "neither a claimant for the prime minister's post nor desirous of it."
Welcoming Kumar 'again' at the party office, Yechury said, the leader's decision to return to the Opposition fold and his desire to be part of a fight against the BJP is a "great signal for Indian politics."
"First, the agenda is to unite all parties, not to decide on the PM candidate. When the time comes we will decide the PM candidate and let you all know," he said.
Kumar is also scheduled to meet his Delhi counterpart and Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) chief Arvind Kejriwal in the afternoon, and also former Haryana chief minister Om Prakash Chautala later in the day.
Kumar, who reached Delhi on Monday, had met Congress leader Rahul Gandhi and Janata Dal (Secular) chief H D Kumaraswamy.
He is also likely to meet other opposition leaders, including NCP's Sharad Pawar, AAP's Arvind Kejriwal, Samajwadi Party's Akhilesh Yadav and INLD's Om Prakash Chautala.&nbsp;
