The pandemic has been a stressful time for everyone but a new American poll shows that teens and young adults have experienced the most brutal of struggles growing up during this period of turmoil.
In general, over a third of 13 to 56-year-olds blame the pandemic for being a major source of stress. However, when it came to education, friendships and dating, it was the youth or Generation Z who feel they experienced the most disruption.
Nearly 46 per cent of 13 to 24-year-olds in the U.S. said the outbreak made it harder to pursue their academic or career goals, compared to 36 per cent of Millennials and 31 per cent of Generation X.
The MTV and AP survey also shows that the pandemic was no wingman for the kids. Over 40 per cent of Gen Z said dating and romantic relationships became harder while 45 per cent said even maintaining friendships was tough during the outbreak.

While Covid-19's psychological impact has been felt across generations, the pronounced effect on youngsters is partly linked to where they are in their brain development, say experts.
Education, which has faced the worst disruption, is a bigger part of Gen Z's identity compared to any other age group. In the workplace, Gen Z is all early-career professionals who have been the hardest hit.

A growing number of American adults, who aren&rsquo;t already parents, see no point in making more humans, finds a new survey.&nbsp;
Around 44&nbsp;per cent&nbsp;of non-parents aged 18 to 49 say it&rsquo;s not too likely, or not at all likely for them to ever have children as per&nbsp;the&nbsp;Pew Research Centre report.&nbsp;This is an increase of 7&nbsp;per cent&nbsp;in the same group that was&nbsp;also&nbsp;surveyed in 2018.

In fact,&nbsp;the time spent alone during the pandemic months has been linked to positive effects on&nbsp;well-being across all age groups in a new study.&nbsp;Published in Frontiers in Psychology, the research&nbsp;has been based on interviews of over 2,000 teens and adults conducted around the end of UK&rsquo;s first national lockdown in summer 2020.
The study says that most participants described their pandemic solitude period with feelings of competence and autonomy. The feelings of competence were based on&nbsp;time spent on skill-building and new activities while the autonomous feeling was attributed to&nbsp;self-connection and reliance on self.
The most negative experiences from solitude were reported by working-age adults with 35.6 per cent mentioning disrupted well-being.&nbsp;The team explained that this may be because this age group lost the most in terms of pockets of personal time such as&nbsp;their commute or a work break.
All in all, the study remarked on the importance of 'peaceful moments' for overall well-being.

A report by Housing and Land Rights Network, an advocacy group in New Delhi, highlights a grave housing crisis that heightened during the Covid-19 pandemic.
Nearly 16 million Indians live under the threat of forcible eviction from their houses and habitats. Strict lockdown curbs which restricted movement and access to remedial courses like courts aggravated the crisis for many.
49% of the total evictions carried out in 2020 were due to ostensible &lsquo;environmental&rsquo; reasons, followed by infrastructure projects, encroachment and beautification drives. According to the report, in almost all the cases state authorities did not follow due process that dictate the national &amp; international norms. Also, 51% of the evictions were court sanctioned.
In 2021, along pandemic induced financial crisis, low-income families suffered the brunt of the eviction crisis as well. A preliminary analysis reveals that between 1 January and 31 July, state authorities across the country demolished at least 24,445&nbsp;homes, affecting over 169,176 people. Of these, about 13,750 people were evicted during the peak of the second wave and resultant lockdowns in April and May.
The advocacy group also claims that the total number of people evicted and displaced as well as those living under the risk of eviction is much higher that their documented statistics.&nbsp;

The concept of a workplace&nbsp;or physical office&nbsp;where every staffer is expected to show up for&nbsp;8&nbsp;to&nbsp;9 hours&nbsp;every day of the week, is one that many of us have lived, enjoyed&nbsp;or&nbsp;tolerated for the&nbsp;better part of our memory.&nbsp;&nbsp;
But the coronavirus pandemic and its accompanying stay-at-home orders&nbsp;have completely changed&nbsp;the way we work.&nbsp;The lockdown normalised working from home and this has prompted a&nbsp;sense&nbsp;of flexibility&nbsp;and more control&nbsp;for workers.&nbsp;As the virus spread slows down, more and more employers are asking their staff to resume in-person work.

However, findings of a new&nbsp;World Economic Forum (WEF) survey revealed that most people are not ready to go back&nbsp;to the way things used to be. Of the 12,500 workers surveyed,&nbsp;the majority (or 66%) of people want employers to allow flexible or hybrid working models going forward.&nbsp;
The echos in support of flexibility were strongest among women, parents of young children, adults under 35 and those with higher education or income.&nbsp;However, not everyone wants to work from home all the time. People who want flexible work advocate for 2.5 work from home days on average, while Indians, in particular, want 3.4 work from home days a week.&nbsp;&nbsp;
The survey of workers in 29 nations also found that&nbsp;nearly a third (or 30%) of workers are ready to quit or consider looking for another job if they were forced to go back to the office full-time.&nbsp;
Around half (52%) of the people said they miss their colleagues, whereas 65%&nbsp;said they are more&nbsp;productive with a flexible work schedule.&nbsp;
But some experts&nbsp;have&nbsp;warned&nbsp;against this&nbsp;overenthusiastic&nbsp;love for flexibility.&nbsp;An International Labour Organisation report said that Gen-Z or early-career workers lose out on the networking and peer support that was normal prior to the pandemic.&nbsp;There is also the risk of leaders losing empathy and becoming out of touch with&nbsp;their employees and their individual needs. Additionally, it could become hard for some people to maintain a work-life balance as the lines between work and home get&nbsp;blurred. This&nbsp;may lead to burnout and mental health issues.
