It may be recalled that Gary Kirsten, who joined as the white ball side&rsquo;s coach along with Gillespie, had resigned before Pakistan left for the series in Australia, Zimbabwe and South Africa.

Jason Gillespie stepped down from his role as Pakistan&rsquo;s Test team coach and former pacer Aaqib Javed has replaced the Australian for the upcoming two-match series against South Africa, PCB announced on Thursday.
Pakistan will play two Tests against the Proteas from December 26, and they are already in the Rainbow Nation for the white-ball leg of the tour.
Aaqib is currently the interim coach of Pakistan white ball outfits.
Gillespie, whose contract was set to expire in 2026, resigned after the Pakistan Cricket Board didn&rsquo;t review the contract of Tim Nielsen, who was brought in on the recommendation of the former Aussie quick, as the high performance coach of the team.
Gillespie was also peeved at the PCB&rsquo;s decision to absolve him of the powers of team selection and involvement in pitch preparation.
It may be recalled that Gary Kirsten, who joined as the white ball side&rsquo;s coach along with Gillespie, had resigned before Pakistan left for the series in Australia, Zimbabwe and South Africa.
Kirsten had resigned citing differences with the PCB on the matters of authority.
Both Gillespie and Kirsten were appointed on a two-year contract before the T20 World Cup 2024 and the PCB had promised a new era for the Pakistan team.
But once Aaqib was brought in as senior selector and PCB granted him full powers including in team selection, the foreign coaches started falling out with the board.

Richards has worked as a mentor for Quetta Gladiators in the Pakistan Super League since 2016 and as per PCB sources, current chairman Mohsin Naqvi is keen on having a big name associated with the national team. Also with most of the Super Eights games in the Caribbean, Richards' experience of conditions could come in handy.
&ldquo;Sir Viv Richards has some prior media commitments for the World Cup but things are being worked out as the Pakistani players have great respect and regard for him,&rdquo; the source said.
He said if the deal goes through Richards will mentor the team in the World Cup, a role fulfilled by former Australian opener, Matthew Hayden in the last two T20 World Cups in 2021 and 2022 where Pakistan reached the semi-final and final.
A PCB source also informed that PCB Chairman Naqvi had also given orders for the appointment of a foreign chief curator and Australian curator Tony Hemmings is seen as a strong candidate for the position.
Hemmings is presently employed with the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB), where he started in July of last year under a two-year contract.
&ldquo;He applied for the Chief Curator position with the PCB and is ready to come to Pakistan,&rdquo; he said.
Tony Hemmings has served as an International Cricket Soil Advisor and Consultant for the Western Australia Cricket Association (WACA) in Perth and also as the Head Curator at the ICC Cricket Academy and the Dubai International Stadium.
&ldquo;The PCB Chairman has given priority to improving the behaviour of pitches in the country before the start of the next domestic season so Hemmings has been short-listed,&rdquo; he said.

Naqvi also said that the prize money held no importance compared to lifting the trophy, expressing the hope that the team would raise the Pakistan flag.
"Chairman PCB Mohsin Naqvi announced to give 100,000 dollars prize to every player for winning the T20 World Cup," the PCB posted on social media.
He also told the players "not to care about anyone" but to just play for Pakistan and demonstrate teamwork, and, "God willing", victory will be gained by the team.
Naqvi further said that all the players were united while also expressing the hope that fast-bowler Shaheen Shah Afridi would deliver a great performance in the tournament.
&ldquo;The country has a lot of expectations from you. You have to fulfil them,&rdquo; he told the players.
During his visit, the PCB chairman also handed out special shirts to players for achieving milestones. Wicketkeeper-batter Mohamad Rizwan was awarded a shirt for completing 3,000 T20 runs while pacer Naseem Shah was awarded a shirt for taking 100 T20 wickets.

The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) on Sunday appointed World Cup-winning Gary Kirsten as their head coach for ODIs and T20Is, while former Australian pacer Jason Gillespie will take over that role in Test cricket.
Along with them, former Pakistan all-rounder Azhar Mahmood was appointed as the assistant coach of the team across the formats.
"The appointment of (Gary) Kirsten and (Jason) Gillispie who are high-profile coaches shows how much value is given to the Pakistan cricket team and how much potential foreign coaches see in our players," PCB chief Mohsin Naqvi said during a media conference.
"We want to give the team the best facilities and that is why we have gone for Kirsten and Gillispie," he added.
Kirsten is expected to take over from Pakistan's tour of England from May 22 which will feature four T20Is and from there the team will travel for the T20 World Cup in June.
Pakistan have been on the search for a full-time head coach since the end of the 50-over World Cup last year where they failed to enter the knockout stages.
After their shambolic effort in the marquee event held in India, Pakistan had sacked the entire set of coaching staff &ndash; head coach Grant Bradburn, team director Mickey Arthur, bowling coach Morne Morkel and batting coach Andrew Puttick.
Premier batter Babar Azam was also removed from captaincy post the ICC showpiece with Pakistan opting to appoint pacer Shaheen Shah Afridi as their white-ball leader and Shan Masood doing that duty in Tests.
Along with that, Pakistan had also turned to former cricket Muhammad Hafeez for the guiding role during their tour to Australia.
But Hafeez lost the job after Pakistan lost 0-3 in the Test series and 1-4 in the T20Is.
While Masood was retained as captain, Afridi was relieved from leadership and Babar was reinstated in the last week of March.
However, Pakistan could not find a full-time head coach despite them approaching some top names such Matthew Hayden and Shane Watson.
Eventually, they have been zeroed in on Kirsten, who had led India to World Cup triumph in 2011, and Gillespie, who comes with bagful of coaching experience with English county side Sussex.
Naqvi explained the rationale behind choosing foreign names for coaching role.
"We have maintained a balance for this. There's a lot of talent in our country. But we're not that far ahead in medical sciences which is why there are some fitness issues in our team.
"So, closing our options to get the best options from outside our country may not get us the best results for us," said Naqvi.

"The new selection committee will have seven members now including the team captain, head coach and a data analyst," Naqvi said.

PCB chief Mohsin Naqvi made the announcement in Lahore on Sunday in the presence of four members of the selection committee -- Mohammad Yousuf, Abdul Razzaq, Asad Shafiq and Wahab Riaz.
"The new selection committee will have seven members now including the team captain, head coach and a data analyst," Naqvi said.
He made it clear that the selection committee will have no chairman and all decisions will be made by majority votes or consensus.
"We took all pros and cons into consideration before finalizing the selection committee and I am saying this now the board chairman will now have no role in the team selection," he added.
The new selection committee was announced just hours after the old committee was dissolved.
Naqvi made it clear that the selectors would now decide what is best for the team and Pakistan cricket and handle all technical matters.
"The selectors are all professionals and will decide on the captain and also be part of the process to pick the new coaching team," he added.
While Yousuf, Razzaq and Wahab (ex chief selector) have been national selectors before, this is the first time that Test batter Asad Shafiq has been given this task.
He also said the new selection committee will shortly announce the names of the players to attend a two-week training camp at the Kakul army centre.&nbsp;
Naqvi also indicated that a decision on Shaheen Shah Afridi's future as captain of the T20 team will be taken after the upcoming national camp in Kakul.
According to sources in PCB sources, wicketkeeper Mohammed Rizwan is being tipped to take over as captain in both white-ball formats.
"The selection committee and board is working on two or three things and the selectors will take decision on the captaincy after the training camp in Kakul," Naqvi told reporters here.
"The selection committee has to do some brainstorming and sit together and decide on the captain," Naqvi said, adding that his committee is in favour of continuity.
Shaheen replaced Babar Azam as T20I captain after Pakistan's dismal show in the ODI World Cup in India. The decision was taken by the erstwhile committee headed by Zaka Ashraf, who also picked Shan Masood as Test captain.
It was Shaheen's success as captain of the Lahore Qalandars, having led the franchise to back-to-back PSL titles that got him national captaincy.
However a 1-4 drubbing in a five-match T20I series in New Zealand and finishing last in this edition of PSL has certainly weakened his case ahead of T20 World Cup scheduled in June.

Shaharyar Khan, a career diplomat and former Pakistan Cricket Board chairman who played a big role in restoring cricket ties with India in the early 2000s, died on Saturday. He was 89.
The Bhopal-born Pakistan diplomat, who was a cousin of former India captain Mansur Ali Khan Pataudi, breathed his last in Lahore after battling prolonged illness.
He served as Pakistan foreign secretary between 1990-94 and also as a High Commissioner in New Delhi and the United Kingdom.
Shaharyar headed the PCB from 2003 to 2006, a period when India toured Pakistan twice, and from 2014 to 2017.
He also worked as Pakistan team manager during the 1999 tour of India and the 2003 Cricket World Cup. He belonged to the royal family of Bhopal.
A learned personality who also wrote several books on his experiences in foreign relations and cricket, Shaharyar, in an interview last year, expressed regrets that in his last tenure as PCB chief he couldn&rsquo;t revive regular bilateral Test cricket ties with India which have been suspended since 2007 due to the tense relations between the two neighbours.
Perhaps the biggest controversy in his tenure as PCB chairman was Pakistan forfeiting the Oval Test to England in 2006 for which he blamed the then captain, Inzamam-ul-Haq.
Shaharyar later expressed concerns over Inzamam&rsquo;s push for introducing religion in the team.
Current PCB chairman Mohsin Naqvi also expressed his condolences over the passing away of Shaharyar.
&ldquo;On behalf of the PCB, I express my deep condolences and grief over the passing of former Chairman Shaharyar Khan. He was a fine administrator and served Pakistan Cricket with utmost dedication.

According to the &ldquo;Jang&rdquo; newspaper, the PCB has contacted high-profile names such as Langer, Kirsten, Mike Hesson, Matthew Hayden, Eoin Morgan and Phil Simmons.
The PCB Chairman, Mohsin Naqvi said he wanted a foreign coaching and support staff to work with the Pakistan team because of the upcoming ICC events including the T20 World Cup and the Champions Trophy.
Zaka Ashraf, the former PCB chairman, had sidelined foreign coaches, Mickey Arthur, Grant Bradburn and Andrew Puttick after the World Cup in India, opting to turn towards domestic former players as coaches.
The foreign coaches were released from their contracts with three month&rsquo;s salaries under a mutual agreement.
&ldquo;It is because of the PCB&rsquo;s poor track record in appointing and sacking coaches -- foreign and local -- in the past that others are now very reluctant to accept any offer from the PCB,&rdquo; a board official conceded.&nbsp;

A reliable source close to the Pakistan Cricket Board confirmed that the delegation would include private security expert Reg Dickason and a senior NZ Players Association Heath Mills official.
Dickason has been the regular security consultant for the ICC and other cricket boards when top-tier teams have visited Pakistan in recent years.
In the 2022-23 season, Pakistan hosted England and New Zealand twice along with Australia (once).
&ldquo;The delegation is due in early March to visit Lahore and Rawalpindi where the matches will probably be held,&rdquo; the source said.
The Kiwi team&rsquo;s visit is not part of the ICC FTP and is a return visit for the five T20Is that Pakistan played in New Zealand in January this year.

In September 2021, the New Zealand white-ball squad returned home from Rawalpindi without playing a game in a long-awaited series owing to a security threat.

The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB), led by new chairman Mohsin Naqvi, is looking to appoint foreign coaches and support staff to guide the national team through the T20 World Cup scheduled to be held in the USA and West Indies in June.
"The new Chairman, Mohsin Naqvi is keen to look at the available coaching options for Pakistan and is more inclined to appoint foreign coaches and support staff,&rdquo; a well-informed source in the board said.
"Naqvi has already asked chief selector, Wahab Riaz to speak to some of the available options and shortlist candidates as he is aware foreign coaches might be reluctant to join the Pakistan team because of the way Mickey Arthur, Grant Bradburn and Andrew Puttick were removed from their positions after the World Cup and their contracts cut short." Veteran administrator Naqvi was appointed as PCB chief for a three-year term early this month.
The source said Wahab, who is very close to the Chairman having worked as his advisor on sports in the Punjab government, has been tasked with having initial discussions with prospective candidates.
The PCB recently released Muhammad Hafeez as team director though the former Test captain was assured he would get a three-year contract by the board&rsquo;s previous chairman, Zaka Ashraf.
The future of the other coaches, including Umar Gul and Saeed Ajmal, is also uncertain as they were brought in by Hafeez.
The source said Naqvi was also not convinced that Shaheen Shah Afridi was the best choice to lead the T20 outfit and ranked Muhammad Rizwan as a better option to lead in both white-ball formats.
&ldquo;Shaheen&rsquo;s performance as captain in the Pakistan Super League is under scrutiny no doubt about that," the source said.
Zaka had removed Babar Azam as captain in all three formats after the 50-over World Cup and also changed the coaching staff and selection committee relying more on former players who played for the national team after 2000.
The source said that Babar is still unable to get over how the board forced him to resign as captain and added that since the change there has been some uneasiness in the Pakistan dressing room especially when Hafeez was the director in Australia and New Zealand.
"Babar privately feels betrayed by Shaheen as he and the fast bowler, Rizwan, Shadab Khan and Haris Rauf have always been very close in the team." By the end of March, the source said, the Pakistan board and team might be seeing several changes.
The source also disclosed that there had also been a fallout between Hafeez and Wahab who were both given a lot of powers by Zaka but the former is now unhappy that Wahab despite being close to Naqvi didn't support extending his contract as team director.

The Q and A sessions on 'X', formerly Twitter, did confirm the popularity of Babar despite losing the captaincy as his session drew more then 20,000 fans while Shaheen&rsquo;s Q and A session was joined by around 4000 fans.
But a source in the PCB said the decision by the two senior players to go ahead with the social media sessions obviously arranged by their agent had not gone down well with the PCB.
"The PCB will look to revisit some of the clauses that the centrally contracted players need to adhere to," the source said.
"The clauses covering the social media activities of contracted players are now being reviewed again by the board because it is concerned such public Q and A sessions could result in unnecessary controversies,&rdquo; he said.
The PCB and players have been at loggerheads over the usage of social media and the NOCs issues for foreign T20 leagues since last year.
The fact that the PCB has a fourth Chairman since December 2022 has not helped matters and the source said this has led to lack of clarity between the players, their agents and the board.
"Every PCB chairman has tried to run the board in his own way and in some cases, even ignored the written clauses of the central contracts and given special permissions to players in the past 12 months," the source added.
The source said the new chairman Mohsin Naqvi had asked for details about the central contracts with the players and also asked for transcripts of all interviews and social media content of players for the last few months.
"Naqvi clearly wants a revised media policy for players and for this the PCB could revise some clauses of the central contracts,"

With the BCCI unwilling to send its team to Pakistan, the original host, due to geopolitical tensions, the Asian Cricket Council (ACC) and the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) decided on a hybrid model and roped in Sri Lanka to host the majority of the matches.
This resulted in extra expenses being incurred on chartered flights, hotel bookings, venue hire fees and travel, among others.
Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) made it clear during the ACC council meeting in Bali last week that it was not willing to take the financial burden as it did not earn extra and was also not the official host of the tournament.
The expenses also reportedly soared because the former PCB chairman, Zaka Ashraf, changed the venue of the first match from Lahore to Multan.
The PCB is also making a case for the ACC to pay for the additional expenses as the continental cricket governing body took the decision to take away Pakistan's hosting rights and split the event.
A source in the know of things said that during the Bali meeting, ACC chief Jay Shah made it clear that it was the PCB which insisted on hosting four matches after the ACC board had decided to move the entire tournament to Sri Lanka.
"When the financial dispute was discussed by the acting chairman of the PCB, Khawar Shah, and CEO Salman Naseer (in Bali), Jay Shah and the SLC were on the same page," the source said.
He said that Shah explained to the officials that since Pakistan remained the host of the event and Sri Lanka's venue and facilities were used, SLC's dues should be cleared by PCB.
The source added that SLC president Shami Silva expressed concern to the ACC that PCB had still not cleared the bills for hotel stay and chartered flights.
Shah advised Silva to deal directly with the PCB.
Naseer, however, has assured Silva that some bills pertaining to hotel stay and venue rental were "in the process of verification and would be cleared soon" by the PCB.
However, the issue of expenses incurred on chartered flight remains unresolved, with the PCB insisting that the flights were booked through Classic Travel, a "non-prequalified" Sri Lankan company.
Apparently, the PCB has so far paid an upfront amount of $281,700 and agreed to give SLC $2,069,885 for the venues. But, now, the PCB is insisting the ACC, being the parent body, share some of the additional costs and pay the hosting fee of 2.5 million dollars.

According to insiders, Hafeez as well as the other new coaching staff members came on board only after the assurance of getting long-term contracts.
&ldquo;Now it appears (that) this is not going to happen, and as it is, the performance of the team has also been very bad under Hafeez and the other coaches, as they have lost all Tests in Australia and now the T20I series in New Zealand,&rdquo; an insider said.
Hafeez was named the director of the Pakistan team along with new coaches Umar Gul, Saeed Ajmal and foreigners Simon Helmot and Adam Hollioake for the Australian tour.
Another former Pakistan player, Yasir Arafat replaced Helmot as the high performance coach for the T20Is in New Zealand.
The new coaches came in after the PCB reassigned the foreign coaches Mickey Arthur, Grant Bradburn and Andrew Puttick to the National Cricket Academy after the World Cup.
All three refused to take up the new assignment and went on vacations. They have now resigned after an undisclosed financial deal with the PCB.
Recently, the sports ministry also stopped the board&rsquo;s cricket management committee from holding a T10 league and as well as a meeting to form the new board of governors.

After the controversial dismissal of Mohammed Rizwan in the second Test against Australia, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has decided to take up issues about umpiring and the use of technology with the International Cricket Council (ICC).
On Friday, the on-field umpire refused to give Rizwan out after Australian captain and pacer Pat Cummins appealed for a caught behind, but the home side managed to overturn the decision through the DRS.
However, the Pakistan camp was less than happy about the reversal of the decision after the &lsquo;Snickometer&rsquo; showed a spike on it when the ball was just above the wrist of Rizwan.
A reliable source within the PCB said its head Zaka Ashraf had a conversation with team director Mohammed Hafeez, who conveyed some points to him about the umpiring and the use of technology during the Melbourne Test which they lost by 79 runs.
Now, the PCB is all set to raise those points with the global governing body.
All rules and regulations governing cricket and the use of technology on the field is approved by the ICC Executive Board after being vetted by the MCC Cricket Committee and ICC Cricket Committee.
Hafeez was visibly upset during the post-match press conference at the MCG on Friday, while stressing on the need to highlight inconsistent umpiring and the challenges of technology which had influenced the outcome of the Test.
&ldquo;If you look at the entire game, there were very inconsistent decisions by the umpires. We play this beautiful game of cricket with instinct, and we all know the basics of the game.
However, at times, it feels like the focus is more on technology than on the actual cricket being played. I believe this is an area that needs to be addressed,&rdquo; Hafeez had said.
Clarity on certainty in the sport required: Hafeez
The former also reiterated the need for clarity and certainty in the sport.
&ldquo;I am not against technology in the game. But if it brings doubt and confusion, it is not acceptable. Some decisions were not understandable. The ball hitting the stumps is always out. I will never understand why there is an umpire's call,&rdquo; he detailed.
Hafeez said he talked with Rizwan and the wicketkeeper batter told him that the ball did not touch his gloves, and there should be conclusive evidence to overturn the decision of the on-field umpire.&nbsp;

Pakistan Cricket Board on Monday appointed former all-rounder, Yasir Arafat as the high-performance coach of the national team for next month's 5-match T20 series against New Zealand.

The Pakistani selectors have already announced a 17-member squad for the T20 series in New Zealand which is seen as a preparation for the ICC World Cup in West Indies and USA next year.

Pakistan Cricket Board on Monday appointed former all-rounder, Yasir Arafat as the high-performance coach of the national team for next month's 5-match T20 series against New Zealand.
Yasir will reach Lahore from London and will leave with the Pakistan white-ball players for New Zealand where five matches are scheduled from January 12.
The Pakistani selectors have already announced a 17-member squad for the T20 series in New Zealand which is seen as a preparation for the ICC World Cup in West Indies and USA next year.
Yasir, who had applied for the post of bowling coach earlier this year when the PCB had approached Mickey Arthur to take over as head coach, is a qualified coach and has worked in New Zealand and England.
A source said that Yasir will replace Simon Helmut, who is the high-performance coach of the Pakistan team for the ongoing Test series in Australia.
"Yasir&rsquo;s appointment came about on the recommendation of the national team&rsquo;s director Muhammad Hafeez who is calling the shots in Australia even above captain, Shah Masood," the source said.
Yasir, who appeared in three Tests and some white-ball games for Pakistan, was a member of the squad that won the ICC World T20 in England in 2009.
This will be the fifth appointment of a coach with the Pakistan team since Hafeez was named Director of the team.
Hafeez has seen the appointments of Umar Gul and Saeed Ajmal as the team&rsquo;s fast and spin bowling coaches and then the short-term appointments of Adam Hollioake and Simon Helmut as batting coach and high-performance coach of the team in Australia for the three-Test series.

Pakistan's caretaker government has stopped the PCB from selling media rights of international matches and the Pakistan Super League, forcing the Cricket Management Committee (CMC) head Zaka Ashraf to postpone his planned visit to Australia and seek a meeting with Prime Minister Anwar ul Haq Kakaar, who is also the chief patron of the board.
The government's directive came just as the CMC, managing the affairs of the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB), had started the process of inviting bids for the sale of PSL and international cricket media rights.
"The government's Ministry of Inter Provincial Coordination (sports) has issued a notification to the board making it clear that from now on, the CMC/PCB has to seek permission from the government before signing any major deal," a reliable source said on Sunday.
He added the notification had even led Ashraf to postpone his planned visit to Australia and seek a meeting with caretaker Prime Minister, Anwar ul Haq Kakaar.
The government's notification, mandating approval for every major decision by the board, is seen as a vote of no-confidence against the CMC, headed by Ashraf.
Ashraf, who took over as CMC head in July, was given a three-month extension in November, which ends on February 4.
The primary mandate given to the CMC was to hold the regional associations' elections and form a board of governors to elect a new PCB chairman.
The notification restricts the PCB to just day-to-day functions. The PCB is expecting to earn around 8-9 billion rupees from the sale of PSL and international media rights for home matches, and the delay in negotiations is a matter of concern.
The source said that the notification had already resulted in the suspension of approvals of 7-8 tenders related to the league's operations.
He added that the uncertainty had also raised concerns that the board might not be able to sell the media rights at "good rates".
The development has also prevented the release of the PSL 9 schedule, as the PCB insists it can only be finalised after the successful sale of media rights.

"Chairman PCB Management Committee Mr Zaka Ashraf was joined by ICC General Counsel Jonathan Hall in the signing of the hosting rights to Pakistan at the ICC headquarters," the PCB said in a statement.
Pakistan last hosted an ICC event in 1996, the ODI World Cup.
Pakistan was guaranteed to host the 2009 Champions Trophy and also matches of the 2011 World Cup at home but the terrorist attack on the Sri Lankan team in March 2009 in Lahore led to both events being moved from the country due to security concerns.
The biggest challenge surrounding Pakistan hosting the Champions Trophy remains whether the Indian government would allow its team to travel to Pakistan for its matches.
The PCB had to agree to a hybrid model of the Asia Cup in August-September and share matches with Sri Lanka after the BCCI said its team would not play in Pakistan due to security concerns.
Pakistan did host the 2008 Asia Cup in entirety and that was the last time India played in Pakistan.
The PCB said in a statement that it has already conveyed to the government to provide foolproof security to visiting international teams for the Champions Trophy.
"The PCB in its capacity has already intimated the government to provide foolproof security to visiting international teams for the Champions Trophy," the PCB statement added.
"Caretaker Prime Minister Anwaar-ul-Haq Kakar in a recent meeting with Chairman PCB Management Committee assured the security agencies&rsquo; cooperation in the successful hosting of the ICC Champions Trophy 2025." Another logistical problem facing the PCB would be to get its existing international venues renovated and ready for the matches of the mega event.
Presently, only Karachi, Lahore and Multan have stadiums capable of hosting Champions Trophy games.

Pakistan Test batter Asad Shafiq has announced his retirement from all forms of cricket after experiencing a dip in his passion for the game.
The 37-year-old made the announcement on Sunday.
&ldquo;I am not feeling the same excitement and passion playing cricket and neither do I have the same fitness levels required for international cricket. Which is why I have decided to say goodbye to all cricket,&rdquo; he told a press conference after leading Karachi Whites to the National T20 Championship title.
Asad also confirmed he was about to sign a contract with the Pakistan Cricket Board to be a paid national selector.
&ldquo;I have got the contract from the board and I am looking at it and hopefully it will be processed soon.&rdquo; He said working as a national selector was an exciting challenge for him and he would look to remain involved in the game.
Asad formed the backbone of the Pakistan Test batting line-up from 2010 to 2020 scoring 4660 runs in 77 games at a healthy average of 38.19 including 12 hundreds and 27 fifties.
Asad along with Azhar Ali, Younis Khan and Misbah ul Haq formed the core of Pakistan&rsquo;s Test batting.
After the spot-fixing scandal of 2010 in England, Asad was seen as the perfect image of Pakistan cricket, clean and non controversial and throughout his career he preferred to keep away from the media and limelight.
Asad also said he had never been pressured to take any decisions in his international cricket and he always did what he felt was best.
&ldquo;After being dropped in 2020 I kept on playing domestic cricket for three years yes in the hope of getting another crack at the Pakistan team. But before the start of this season I had decided this would be my last season because I felt that closing in on 38 years of age this was time to retire instead of people telling me to step down.&rdquo; Asad also said he was proud to have been part of the Pakistan team under Misbah ul Haq which helped clean the image of Pakistan cricket.
&ldquo;After the spot-fixing scandal in 2010 it was a very difficult time for Pakistan cricket and I am happy I was part of that process where we won back the confidence of the people in. Our team.
Asad, who also played 60 ODIs and 10 T20 Internationals, indirectly also admitted that perhaps in Pakistan cricket there was a tendency to select players on likes and dislikes.
Questioned whether he felt that players from Karachi were not given the same opportunities as those from other provinces, Asad interestingly didn&rsquo;t directly refuse this suggestion.

The 39-year-old, who made a successful return to cricket in 2016 after serving a five-year ban for spot-fixing, has been named along with former teammates Kamran Akmal and Rao Iftikhar Anjum as consultant members to the recently-appointed chief selector, Wahab Riaz.
Butt was suspended for five years for his role in spot-fixing during the Pakistan and England Test match in August 2010.
After returning to cricket in 2016, Butt enjoyed a lot of success as a batter and captain in domestic competitions but was never considered for the national team again even though his partner in crime, Muhammad Amir was fast-tracked back into the Pakistan side in 2016 by the board.
Butt, a former opener, was last month hired for commentary assignments by the PCB for domestic competitions and is currently busy in the National T20 Championship.
"Their first assignment as consultant members to the chief selector includes the upcoming five-match T20I series against New Zealand, set to commence on 12 January 2024 following the conclusion of the Test tour to Australia,&rdquo; PCB said in a release.
"When not engaged in selection duties, the consultant members may be assigned additional tasks such as conducting skills camps." Butt, Kamran, chief selector Wahab Riaz and former Test pacer, Anjum all played together in the Pakistan team alongside the Director of the Pakistan team, Muhammad Hafeez.
Kamran, in a 15-year career, played 53 Tests, 157 ODIs and 58 T20Is while Butt appeared in 33 Tests, 78 ODIs and 24 T20Is and Anjum played a Test, 62 ODIs and two T20Is from 2004 to 2010.
Butt, Amir and Muhammad Asif were all found guilty of spot-fixing by the national crime agency in the United Kingdom and also served time in jail and the International Cricket Council imposed the bans on them.
Butt, under whose captaincy Pakistan won a Test against Australia at Headingley and one against England at the Oval in 2010, has always complained of being treated unjustly while admitting his remorse over his actions.
Few years years back, then head coach Waqar Younis had also recommended his name for a comeback to the national team, but former captain Shahid Afridi refused to let him make a comeback in the team.

In the National T20 tournament in Karachi, Azam Khan, the middle-order batter for Karachi Whites, faced a 50% fine of his match fees. The penalty was imposed for violating clothing and equipment regulations by displaying an "unapproved logo", in this case, the flag of Palestine, during a game against Lahore Blues. Azam scored 35 runs before being summoned by match referee Mohammad Javed.
A reliable source confirmed to Geo News that Azam had indeed been fined, shedding light on the breach of the ICC code of conduct. The flamboyant batter had been warned earlier not to showcase the flag on his bat. Despite the warning, Azam argued that all his bats had identical stickers.
The ICC regulations explicitly prohibit players from displaying messages with political, religious, or racial undertones on their clothing or equipment. The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB), as a signatory to these rules, confirmed that Azam was charged with violating these regulations.
PCB sources revealed that Azam had used the same sticker in two previous National T20 Cup games without facing any warnings.
However, during the recent match, the breach was addressed, resulting in a fine.
This incident follows Pakistan's cricket team expressing solidarity with Palestine during the ICC Men's Cricket World Cup in October.&nbsp;
At that time, questions were raised by Indian fans and cricket experts regarding the permissibility of such political gestures in the tournament. The PCB dismissed objections, asserting that the team's expression of solidarity was a personal decision.
