The minister was replying to a question about whether the 5.4 per cent GDP growth in the July-September quarter of this fiscal worries him.

Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal on Thursday expressed confidence that India's economic growth by the end of this fiscal will be back on track despite global uncertainties.
He said that this year also India will be the world's fastest growing economy.
"We had an election in the first quarter and during the election, obviously policy making and decisions on next steps of growth or infrastructure spending does slow down and there is a lag effect.
"But from what the initial numbers for this quarter, the third quarter show, the festive spending, the rebound in rural growth, the way banks are now seeing traction back again, the way infrastructure spending has come back on track, I think by the time we close the year in March, we will be back on track," Goyal said at Times Network's India Economic Conclave here.
The minister was replying to a question about whether the 5.4 per cent GDP growth in the July-September quarter of this fiscal worries him.
The latest government data showed India's economic growth slowed to a near two-year low of 5.4 per cent in the July-September quarter of this fiscal due to poor performance of manufacturing and mining sectors, but the country continued to remain the fastest-growing large economy.
The gross domestic product (GDP) had expanded by 8.1 per cent in the July-September quarter of the preceding fiscal.
The previous low level of GDP growth at 4.3 per cent was recorded in the third quarter (October-December 2022) of the financial year 2022-23.
However, India remained the fastest-growing major economy as China's GDP growth in the July-September quarter this year was at 4.6 per cent.
Going forward, Goyal said, India's engagement with modern technologies and innovation will define the country's growth story.
He added that the negative and false narratives of the opposition parties are not going to hold back the country's economic growth.
"We are committed whether it is passing the Waqf Bill so that fairness and sanity come into this country's policy, whether it is passing the one nation one election bill so that we are rid of this continuous model of conduct holding back the nation's growth and the policy-making and governments getting into sleep mode. These are structural changes which are good for India, we stand committed," he said.
The Union minister also alleged that the opposition parties including Congress leader Rahul Gandhi are stalling the parliament proceedings.
"They are fixated on false narratives and fake stories," he added.

Union Commerce Minister Piyush Goyal has raised concerns regarding the business practices of American e-commerce giant Amazon in India. The minister questioned Amazon's losses worth thousands of crores, suggesting that the e-commerce major may be involved in predatory pricing policies.

&ldquo;If you make ₹6,000 crore loss in one year, does that not smell like predatory pricing to any of you? Goyal asked the audience, referring to Amazon&rsquo;s losses in India. The minister was speaking in Delhi at the launch of the report, &lsquo;Assessing the net impact of e-commerce on employment and consumer welfare&rsquo; by Pahle India Foundation.
<h3>Why Is Amazon India Losing Money?</h3>
"When Amazon says it's going to invest a billion dollars in the country, we forget the underlying story that the billion dollars is not coming in for any great service or any great investment to support the Indian economy. They made a billion dollars loss in their balance sheet and they have to fill in that loss," the Union Commerce Minister further added.
<h3>Why ₹1,000 Crore To Professionals?</h3>
While talking about Amazon India&rsquo;s losses, Piyush Goyal also questioned the kind of money the American e-commerce giant was paying to professionals in India. The minister said, &ldquo;"How did that (Amazon India&rsquo;s) loss get caused? They paid a ₹1,000 crore to professionals. I don't know who these professionals are&hellip; I want to know what kind of lawyers and CAs get ₹1,000 crore, unless you are paying all the top lawyers to block them, so nobody can fight a case against you."
<h3>E-Commerce Impact On Retailers</h3>
The commerce minister also highlighted the negative impact of rising e-commerce penetration on small retailers. He said that e-commerce doesn&rsquo;t attack every part of a retail store. Instead, the minister added, that e-commerce goes for those 5-10% items that make a good profit for the storeowner. Therefore, the minister exhorted the audience to investigate the impact of e-commerce on retail stores across the country.

Union Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal on Wednesday said the PM Gati Shakti mechanism, a technology-backed infrastructure development platform implemented by the Narendra Modi government, will become a planning tool for the entire world in the years to come.
Goyal made the comments while addressing a seminar on 'PM Gati Shakti: Informed Decision Making for Holistic Development' organised at Mahatma Mandir convention centre here as part of the Vibrant Gujarat Global Summit 2024 which was inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi earlier in the day.
"As we assess the outcomes of PM Gati Shakti, and some of the outcomes were already shared with you, this overall architecture, in my humble view, and I this say this with great responsibility and conviction, that PM Gati Shakti in the years to come will become a planning tool of infrastructure not only for India or Asia, but for the entire world," Goyal said. A PM Gati Shakti-driven approach towards infrastructure planning will help create an enabling environment to make India the third largest economy in the world, noted the Union minister.
The PM Gati Shakti - National Master Plan for Multi-modal Connectivity -- is a digital platform to bring 16 ministries together for integrated planning and coordinated implementation of infrastructure connectivity projects, said a release.
It was launched by Prime Minister Modi in October 2021.
Goyal further maintained that PM Gati Shakti is India's offering to the world and Modi envisaged such a concept nearly 18 year ago when he was Gujarat chief minister.
"Soon after he was given the charge of Gujarat (as CM) after the devastating earthquake (of January 2001), he realised that to get Gujarat back in shape and make it a preferred investment destination in the country, infrastructure will have to be the core focus area," said Goyal.
In the past, it was considered normal in India if an infrastructure project got delayed by 8 to 12 years and its cost went up, stated the Union minister.
"In my view, a project that gets delayed is the worst form of corruption. Because, through that project (cost) overrun, ultimately people pay for all this infrastructure. It's your taxpayers money. PM Modi wants to change this model. He demands that any government work has to be fast-tracked and done within stipulated time and cost," said Goyal.
Giving an example, the Union minister pointed out that construction work of the Bandra-Worli Sea Link in Mumbai was awarded to the contractor originally for Rs 420 crore through a tendering process, but the contractor was paid Rs 1,800 crore and yet the project was only half done.
"As a nation, 'chalta hai' (casual attitude) was our approach. PM Modi never accepted this approach. He demands excellence, performance and then better performance. He believes the day we get satisfied, it's the beginning of the end," said Goyal.
It took years for senior government officials and others to decipher what was in Modi's mind, he added.&nbsp;

Union Commerce and Consumer Affairs Minister Piyush Goyal has said that the government has started the procurement of onion at Rs 2,410 per quintal in Maharashtra and Madhya Pradesh after increasing the quantum of onion buffer to five lakh tonnes this year. This to guard farmers' interest amid export curbs and to handle onion price rise.
Goyal further added that, the government has been selling them at Rs 25/KG in certain parts of the country. The government had also imposed a 40% tax on export in response to the sudden rise in prices. This invited wrath of farmers in Maharashtra who protested the tax burden and closed the wholesale onion auction at all APMCs in Maharashtra's Nashik.

&ldquo;On 17th August, two important decisions were taken, on the export 40% tax has been imposed. But along with this, NCCF and NAFED will buy 5 lakh tons of onions instead of 3 lakh, so that our farmers don't have any problems. Two lakh tons will be bought at ₹2410 per quintal," said Piyush Goyal.
Piyush Goyal has now assured the farmers that there is no need to worry and that they are valuable for the Government.
"NCCF and NAFED will sell onions at a subsidised rate of ₹25 kg for consumers in different regions. This subsidy will be provided by the government. This work started yesterday...Both consumers and farmers are valuable to us. Our food giver(farmers) gets a good price. I invite all the farmers to sell their onions at good prices and they don't need to worry about anything,"he said.

Union Minister for Commerce and Industry Piyush Goyal on Saturday said regulators are very competent to handle the situation and will take appropriate action, regarding the allegations of fraud against billionaire Gautam Adani's companies that triggered an unprecedented stock crash.
He also termed the opposition stalling the Parliament's proceedings on the issue as "unfortunate".
"The regulators in India are very competent and our financial markets are amongst the most respected and well regulated markets in the world. As regards the loss, that's the share market's valuation loss, not the loss of any individual or people's wealth," Goyal told reporters here.
Responding to the opposition's criticism that the government is shying away from discussion on the Adani issue, and about USD 100 billion loss, he said, investments in shares and stocks go up and down, that's a part of the investment, but nowhere have the people of India lost those levels of sums that are mentioned (USD 100 billion).

The financial institutions have already clarified that their money is absolutely secured and safe, the Minister said, adding the two principal organisations LIC and State Bank, have both come out with details.
"I think it is a matter of a private company, a report which has been brought out by a foreign agency, based on which some of the allegations have been made, whatever regulators need to do, they will take appropriate action on that," he said.

"We found very good resonance to our request that issuance of business visas which is taking a long time back home in India is an area which needs to be expedited so that business persons interested on both sides -- the US businesses and Indian businesses -- need to have faster processing of business reasons, so that trade and investment and business does not suffer," Goyal told reporters.

GIFT City will be nominated as an agency to import 200 tonnes of gold from the United Arab Emirates under the recently signed Free Trade Agreement said Piyush Goyal, Union Minister of Commerce and Industry, during his visit to Gujarat Saturday.
&ldquo;I have take a decision which profits GIFT City and its expansion. Recently, we signed an FTA with the UAE. This agreement has come into force from May 1 under which almost 100 per cent of items exported to the UAE will go as duty-free. We have also allowed some items to be imported from the UAE with lesser duty. In order to encourage our gem and jewellery sector, 200 tonnes of gold will be brought at discounted rates to India. We will nominate GIFT City as the agency to import the gold,&rdquo; said Goyal during his interaction with media persons at iHub, a student startup and innovation hub in Ahmedabad.

Piyush Goyal reviewed the functioning of the GIFT special economic zone on Monday.&nbsp;
Gujarat International Finance Tech-city special economic zone is India's first International Financial Services Centre (IFSC). It is being developed as a global financial services hub.
It was operationalised by the central government in April 2015. "Held a fruitful interaction with industry representatives at GIFT City. Discussed benefits of setting up units here," Goyal said in a tweet.
The minister also held interactions at the International Bullion Exchange (IIBX) in GIFT City to understand issues with respect to trading of gold; operationalising the gold spot exchange and reducing the cost of gold metal loans for jewellery exporters through the GIFT IFSC.
"Urged representatives of Jewellery sector to discover competitive prices for gold through IIBX," he said.
The minister issued directions to improve the trading of gold on the IIBX, including enabling the utilisation of the TRQ (Tariff Rate Quota) on gold obtained in the trade pact with the UAE.&nbsp;

Union Minister Piyush&nbsp;Goyal&nbsp;tweeted the notfication&nbsp;stating " Imports of Remdesivir API, injection and specific inputs have been made import duty free. This should increase supply and reduce cost thus providing relief to patient."
The injectable drug has been repurposed for Covid-19 treatment and was cleared by the country's top drug regulator for restricted emergency use in June 2020 on patients with severe complications.
