Social media influencer Sapna Gill on Monday moved the Bombay High Court seeking disciplinary proceedings against seven police officers, including Mumbai commissioner Vivek Phansalkar, for not registering an FIR on her complaint against cricketer Prithvi Shaw.
Gill had accused Shaw of molesting her at a pub in suburban Andheri following an argument over clicking selfies. Gill was arrested in connection with the incident on February 23 and is currently out on bail.
Gill, in a writ petition filed before the court, sought action against seven police officers for not registering a case based on her complaint against Shaw.
Following her release, Gill had filed a complaint against Shaw, his friend Ashish Yadav and others at the Airport police station in Andheri, alleging molestation and outraging modesty.
When the police did not register a case against the cricketer, Gill approached the magistrate court, which on April 3 this year directed the Santacruz police station to probe her complaint and file a report by June 19.
The magistrate court, however, dismissed her complaint seeking action against the police, following which she moved the HC.
In her petition filed through advocate Kashil Ali Khan, she contended that the police officers, as public servants, were required to record the information given for cognizable offence under section 354 (molestation) of the Indian Penal Code and take necessary cognizable action.
Despite Gill's "diligent and constant efforts to through the proper channels", her grievances remained unanswered at the higher levels of the police hierarchy, the plea said.
The plea claimed Gill had approached commissioner Phansalkar hoping for an intervention that would lead to the registration of the FIR against Shaw and others.

After making headlines with a fiery double hundred in England's One-Day Cup, Prithvi Shaw said that he isn't thinking about India selection right now.

Fresh from scoring his second double hundred in List A cricket, out-of-favour India opener Prithvi Shaw has asserted that he is currently not thinking about his future in the national team and just wants to enjoy his stint in country cricket.
At his fluent best, Shaw smashed 244 off 153 deliveries to fashion Northamptonshire's 87-run win over Somerset in England's One-Day Cup tournament here on Wednesday.
The talented 23-year-old is out of India contention for the last two years. He last played for the Men in Blue on the tour of Sri Lanka in July 2021.
He was left out of the ongoing series against the West Indies and is also not a part of the second-string Indian T20I squads for the upcoming Ireland series and the Asian Games.
"Definitely (here for the) experience for sure. Not really thinking what the Indian selectors may be thinking, but I just want to have a good time here," Shaw said after the game.
"Northamptonshire has given me this opportunity... they're really looking after me. I'm really enjoying it," he added.
Playing in his maiden county season, Shaw looked in sublime touch on Wednesday as he smashed 28 fours and 11 sixes en route to his second List A double century.
Shaw said with the sun shining bright, the batting conditions were ideal, adding that he felt it was his day to go big.
"The sun was out, it was kind of like Indian weather today (Wednesday) so it was really looking good. I wasn't thinking about anything.
"You know when an inside edge doesn't get me out, that means this day is for me. You have to be lucky sometimes, so I think this was a day for me. I didn't look back after that. When I got 150 I thought I was timing the ball really well and this could be the day to go bigger," he said.
With the innings, the Mumbai batter bettered his highest List A score of 227, which he had scored against Puducherry in the Vijay Hazare Trophy in February 2021.
"The 227 was in my head, to be honest. I spoke to Whitey (Sam Whiteman) when he was there and I told him it's 227, my highest score," Shaw said.
"It was a good team effort all around. I always try and win matches for the team and I'm the kind of a player who puts my team first and then myself."

Shaw reached this hundred in 81 balls while he crossed the 200-run mark in 129 balls. Shaw smashed 28 fours and 11 sixes en route to his second List A double century.

Talented Mumbai opener Prithvi Shaw will be plying his trade for English county side Northamptonshire after finishing his Duleep Trophy engagements later this month.

"Yes, Prithvi will be leaving once he finishes his Duleep Trophy assignment for West Zone. He is likely to play the July 19-22 game against Somerset if all goes well," a source close to the cricketer told PTI on conditions of anonymity.
It is expected that the dashing opener will play the entire Royal London Cup one day tournament for the Northants.
Shaw, who had scored a mammoth 379 in a Ranji game against Assam, didn't have a great IPL for Delhi Capitals but the kind of talent he is, one expects that county stint will help get his mojo back and be in national contention post ODI World Cup when another round of transition would take place across the formats.
If Prithvi leaves for the UK after the Duleep final (July 12-16), he might miss the Deodhar Trophy inter-zonal one-day meet starting July 24. But it is expected that the BCCI brass will alow him to play in the UK where he is expected to face better quality bowling attack in Division 1 compared to what he would get in India.&nbsp;

The altercation began in a luxury hotel in the early hours of the day after Shaw was mobbed for selfies. The cricketer obliged two persons for selfies but refused when they came back with more people. When the fans insisted, Shaw's friend called the hotel manager, who asked the group to leave.
This made them angry, and later, they allegedly attacked Shaw's friend's car with baseball bats, according to an India Today report. The friend said that the cricketer then left in another car. The accused gave chase and Shaw's friend was stopped near the Jogeshwari petrol pump, and allegedly asked to pay ₹50,000 or face a fake case.
Subsequently, the cricketer's friend approached the police, who booked 6 persons for alleged extortion and unlawful assembly.

India skipper Hardik Pandya on Thursday said in-form opener Shubman Gill will start the T20 series against New Zealand ahead of Prithvi Shaw, who has made a comeback to the national team.
Considering Gill's sensational run in ODIs, Hardik said his selection was a no-brainer. Gill has smashed three hundreds including a double ton in his last four innings.
Ishan Kishan is expected to open alongside Gill.
"Shubman has done well and will start the series. The way he is batting and was already in the team," said Hardik ahead of the first T20I.
Hardik bowled with the new ball in the T20Is against Sri Lanka before doing the same in the third ODI against New Zealand on Tuesday with Mohammed Shami and Mohammed Siraj being rested from the game.
Hardik said he likes bowling with the new ball.
"I have always enjoyed bowling with the new ball. Since quite a number of years whenever I bowl in the nets, I pick the new ball. I am used to the old ball so that I don't feel the need to practice with the old ball as much. It has helped in match situations.
"With our two main bowlers rested in the last game, I had to be ready. But (it) has never been about pressure, half of the times pressure is gone if you prepare well," said Hardik.

The skipper also said wicketkeeper Jitesh Sharma has been rewarded for his performances in the IPL and domestic cricket but did not commit whether he will be in the playing eleven.
"Our strategy will be seen on the ground. Jitesh has been rewarded for his performances. Unfortunately, Sanju Samson got injured and Jitesh got the opportunity.
"We will try to win obviously. New Zealand is a good team both in T20Is and ODIs. They always challenge you. We will have to be at their best to beat them," he added.
India won the ODI series 3-0 and it is being followed by three T20Is in Ranchi, Lucknow and Ahmedabad respectively.&nbsp;
