With this, Uttarakhand will become the first state in the country to implement the Uniform Civil Code after independence.

The Uniform Civil Code will be implemented in Uttarakhand from January, Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami said on Wednesday.
During a meeting of the Uttarakhand Investment and Infrastructure Development Board (UIIDB) in Dehradun, Dhami said that the state government has completed its "homework" and the UCC will be implemented across the state from January 2025.
With this, Uttarakhand will become the first state in the country to implement the Uniform Civil Code after independence.
On the last day of campaigning for the 2022 assembly elections, the chief minister had promised the people of Uttarakhand that if the BJP retained power, the UCC would be implemented in the state.
Dhami said that after the formation of the new government in Uttarakhand in March 2022, it was decided in the first meeting of the cabinet to form an expert committee to implement UCC in the state.
He said that a five-member expert committee was formed under the chairmanship of retired judge Ranjana Prakash Desai. On the basis of its report, the Uniform Civil Code, Uttarakhand, 2024 Bill was passed in the state assembly on February 7, 2024.
Dhami said that the Act was notified on 12 March 2024 after presidential assent.
He said that now the rules of the Uniform Civil Code Act have also been prepared and Uttarakhand is fully prepared to implement the UCC from January.
"The Uniform Civil Code Act of Uttarakhand will give a new direction to the society by following the basic spirit of 'Sabka Saath, Sabka Vikas, Sabka Vishwas. This law will open new doors of empowerment, especially for women and children of Devbhoomi," Dhami said.
Speaking in Rajya Sabha on Tuesday, Union Home Minister Amit Shah had said that UCC will be implemented in all BJP-ruled states.
Dhami instructed the officials to provide proper training and facilities to the personnel for the implementation of the provisions of UCC.
The chief minister said that keeping in mind the convenience of the common people, a portal and a mobile app have also been prepared so that facilities including registration and appeal can be made available online.

The Chief Minister prayed for the prosperity of the people and the holistic development of the state.
As part of his visit, CM Dhami assessed the arrangements made for the Winter Char Dham Yatra and directed officials to ensure a smooth and comfortable experience for devotees. Highlighting the initiative&rsquo;s potential, he stated that opening the Char Dham pilgrimage in winters would boost tourism, attract visitors throughout the year, and bring attention to other lesser-known tourist destinations in the state.
&ldquo;This initiative will open new avenues for tourism and provide significant opportunities for economic empowerment of local communities through increased employment,&rdquo; said the Chief Minister.
Ukhimath serves as the winter abode of Baba Kedarnath, while Pandukeshwar in Chamoli district hosts Lord Badri Vishal. Maa Yamuna is worshipped at Kharsali, and Maa Ganga&rsquo;s winter abode is in Mukhwa, Uttarkashi. The Winter Char Dham Yatra allows pilgrims to continue their spiritual journey in these revered locations during the colder months.
The event was also graced by notable dignitaries, including Shrimati Asha Nautiyal, Shri Bharat Chaudhary, and Shri Ajendra Ajay, Chairman of the Shri Badri-Kedarnath Temple Committee.

Uttarakhand Assembly approved the Uniform Civil Code Bill on February 7.

Uttarakhand Assembly passed the Uniform Civil Code Bill on February 7, becoming the first Indian state to approve such legislation. As the bill now moves to the Governor for final approval, Uttarakhand CM Pushkar Singh Dhami celebrated the Assembly&rsquo;s decision.
The passing of the UCC bill, which refers to a common set of laws for all Indian citizens, is likely to push other BJP-ruled states to adopt similar legislation.
&ldquo;This law is of equality, uniformity and equal rights. There were many doubts regarding this but the two-day discussion in the assembly clarified everything. This law is not against anyone,&rdquo; CM Dhami said in a press conference after the bill was cleared by the Assembly.
Once the Bill gets the governor's consent, Uttarakhand will become the first state after independence to get a common law on marriage, divorce, land, property and inheritance for all citizens, irrespective of their religion.
Speaking on the Bill before its passage, Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami said &ldquo;it is not an ordinary legislation. The Uniform Civil Code (UCC) will create equal laws for men and women across all faiths and will help create a non-partisan and non-discriminatory society,&rdquo; he said.
&ldquo;It will especially protect the rights of women and put an end to their exploitation. It fulfills a commitment we had made to the people of the state in the run-up to the 2022 assembly polls," the chief minister added.

Police accused the protestors of pelting stones and vandalising police vehicles.

Following clashes in Uttarakhand's Dehradun, Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami has ordered a detailed magisterial inquiry.
Clashes broke out on 9 February 2023 when youngsters staged a protest demanding a CBI investigation into alleged irregularities in recruitment.
Police accused the protestors of pelting stones and vandalising police vehicles. Cops also conducted a lathi-charge to disperse the protestors.
Subsequently, the chief minister ordered a probe into the sequence of events, and why the baton charge was conducted.
Meanwhile, hitting out at the Dhami government, former Chief Minister Harish Rawat said that the lathi charge by the police on the students was "unfortunate".
"Students are demanding a robust exam system. Already there is a lack of jobs due to the BJP government, then paper gets leaked and cancelled. When students were protesting, they were lathi-charged, which is unfortunate," Rawat said.

Amid continuing worry over the fate of Joshimath town which is facing the threat of sinking due to land subsidence, Uttarakhand Chief Minister provided an update regarding the situation.
Pushkar Singh Dhami said on 9 January 2023, "Our first priority is that Joshimath town must survive, and lives and property must be protected. Everyone is working towards this goal."
Regarding the evacuations, he said, "People living in 68 houses, which were at risk, have been shifted. Work is underway to shift people from the zone which includes 600 houses."
"PM Modi is constantly monitoring the situation," he added.

Meanwhile, a temple collapsed in Singdhar ward of the Himalayan town of Joshimath on Friday evening, further alarming residents living under constant fear of a major disaster in the offing, officials said.

Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami on Friday ordered immediate evacuation of around 600 families living in houses which have developed huge cracks and are at risk in Joshimath town which is sinking.
"Saving lives is our first priority. Officials have been asked to shift around 600 families living in endangered houses in Joshimath to safe locations," Dhami told reporters here after reviewing the situation in the sinking town with officials via video conference.
"We are also working on short and long term plans to address the situation in Joshimath," he said.

The chief minister will visit Joshimath on Saturday, meet the affected people and hold a meeting with officials.
Meanwhile, a temple collapsed in Singdhar ward of the Himalayan town of Joshimath on Friday evening, further alarming residents living under constant fear of a major disaster in the offing, officials said.
According to local residents, there was no one inside the temple when the incident occurred as it had been abandoned after it developed huge cracks over the past 15 days. Huge cracks have appeared in many houses and nearly 50 families have been moved to safer locations, disaster management officials said.

With panic gripping Uttarakhand's Joshimath after hundreds of houses developed cracks, a protest march was conducted on 4 January 2023 with residents carrying flaming torches.
Residents are worried that land in the area is sinking vertically, which is also known as land subsidence. More than 600 houses have developed cracks so far.
Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami said that he would be visiting Joshimath soon to take stock of the situation.
Physical inspection of houses and land located in Marwadi, Manohar Bagh and Singhdhar wards was carried out by the Additional District Magistrate and Deputy Superintendent of Police of Chamoli along with a team of geologists, State Disaster Relief Force (SDRF), Fire Service and local police, officials said Instructions were given to the officials concerned to be prepared.
Police and SDRF personnel have been asked to keep disaster response equipment ready.

Pant had a miraculous escape on 30 December 2022 and is being treated for injuries at the Max Hospital in Dehradun.

Uttarakhand Chief Minister on 1 January 2023 visited cricketer Rishabh Pant at the hospital, and subsequently revealed the cause of his severe accident.
Pushkar Singh Dhami said that Pant claimed he was trying to "avoid a pothole or something black" on the Delhi-Dehradun highway when his swerved across the road and hit a divider.
The CM was at the hospital for nearly an hour taking an update on Pant's condition from his mother, sister and doctors. He assured them that the state government will give all help for the treatment of the cricketer.
Delhi and District Cricket Association (DDCA) Director, Shyam Sharma, who met Pant on 31 December 2022, had also said quoting the batter that the accident occurred when he was trying to negotiate a pothole in the early hours of 30 December.
Pant had a miraculous escape after his car hit the divider and went up in flames. The cricketer is being treated for injuries at the Max Hospital in Dehradun.

The Prime Minister Modi reached Dehradun early Friday morning, where he was received by Uttarakhand Governor Gurmit Singh&nbsp;and Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami.
The PM Narendra&nbsp;Modi&nbsp;unveiled the&nbsp;statue of Adi Guru Shankaracharya, which has been reconstructed after its destruction in the 2013 <a href="https://www.editorji.com/india-news/uttarakhand-47-dead-in-rain-related-incidents-imd-predicts-drier-days-1634697264961" target="_blank">Uttarakhand floods</a>, and inaugurated the rebuilt samadhi of the eighth century seer.

The statue weighs 35 tonnes and it has been made by Mysore-based sculptors from chlorite schist, a rock that is known to withstand rain, sunshine and harsh climate.

The UP government has already announced that it will allow the yatra from July 25.
Meanwhile, experts claim the Kanwar yatra could be five times more likely to be a superspreader event than the Kumbh mela last year in April. They say that the risk of spread of Covid-19 infection is higher in Kanwar yatra than the Kumbh as the number of devotees undertaking the yatra is likely to be significantly higher than those who attended Kumbh. 
The ''Kanwar Yatra'' is an annual pilgrimage of Lord Shiva's devotees. This time every year during the Hindu calendar month of ''Saavan'', thousands of devotees from across India, undertake the pilgrimage. The footfall for Kanwar yatra in the previous years has ranged between 2 crore and 5 crore, according to reports.

Dhami was sworn in as the 11th chief minister of Uttarakhand. The oath of office was administered on Dhami by Governor Baby Rani Maurya at a simple function held on the lawns of the Raj Bhawan in Dehradun in the presence of a host of MPs, MLAs and functionaries of the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and senior government officials.
