Special court verdict in Babri demolition case today

A special CBI court in Lucknow will deliver the much-awaited judgment in the 1992&nbsp;Babri&nbsp;Masjid demolition case in which BJP veterans L K Advani and Murli Manohar Joshi are among the accused on Wednesday.&nbsp;CBI judge SK Yadav had on September 16 directed all the&nbsp;32 surviving&nbsp;accused to remain present in the court on the day of the judgment.&nbsp;The accused include former deputy prime minister Advani, former Union ministers Joshi and Uma Bharti, former Uttar Pradesh chief minister Kalyan Singh, besides Vinay Katiyar and Sadhvi&nbsp;Rithambara.&nbsp;With both Bharti and Singh convalescing in separate hospitals after coronavirus infection, it&nbsp;is highly unlikely&nbsp;that&nbsp;they would be present in the court at the time of pronouncement of order.&nbsp;Singh, during whose tenure as chief minister of Uttar Pradesh the disputed structure was demolished, was put on trial in September last year after his tenure as governor of Rajasthan came to an end.&nbsp;Champat&nbsp;Rai, the general secretary of the trust in charge of constructing the Ram temple, is also among those accused.&nbsp;

Newly elected Rajya Sabha member Ashok Gasti, who was admitted to a private hospital after testing positive for the novel coronavirus, died on Thursday night

Newly elected Rajya Sabha member Ashok Gasti, who was admitted to a private hospital after testing positive for the novel coronavirus, died on Thursday night, the hospital said. According to the hospital, Gasti was critically ill with multi-organ failure and was on life support system. Condoling Gasti's demise, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said he was passionate about empowering the poor and marginalised sections of society. Gasti was elected unopposed to Rajya Sabha in June this year on a BJP ticket.

Bengaluru, PTI: Newly elected Rajya Sabha member Ashok Gasti, who was admitted to a private hospital after testing positive for the novel coronavirus, died on Thursday night, the hospital said.
Fifty-five-year-old Gasti, who was admitted to Manipal Hospital on Old Airport Road on September 2 and diagnosed with severe Covid-19 pneumonia, passed away at 10.31 pm, hospital director Manish Rai said in a statement.
Condoling Gasti's demise, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said he was passionate about empowering the poor and marginalised sections of society.
"Rajya Sabha MP Shri Ashok Gasti was a dedicated Karyakarta who worked hard to strengthen the Party in Karnataka. He was passionate about empowering the poor and marginalised sections of society. Anguished by his passing away. Condolences to his family and friends. Om Shanti," Modi tweeted.
According to Rai, Gasti was critically ill with multi-organ failure and was on life support system under constant observation of an expert panel of doctors.
"We deeply regret the loss and express our condolences to his family and friends," Rai said.
A grassroots level worker hailing from Raichur, Gasti was elected unopposed to Rajya Sabha in June this year on a BJP ticket.
Coming from the backward community of Savita Samaj, Gasti had been an RSS worker and was an active member of the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad.
