The protest coincided with ongoing opposition accusations that the central government was avoiding discussions about the bribery allegations against Adani. The issue has caused continuous disruptions in both Houses of Parliament since the session began on November 20. The Congress demands a debate on the Adani case, while the BJP counters with claims about Congress' alleged ties to billionaire George Soros, asserting that the former Congress president and the party are linked to organizations funded by Soros, who allegedly supports the separatist cause in Kashmir.
The Adani bribery allegations, which involve over $250 million in bribes between 2020 and 2024, were brought to light by US prosecutors. The case concerns Adani's attempts to secure solar energy contracts from the Indian government under terms that could potentially generate over $2 billion in profits.
Meanwhile, the Opposition INDIA bloc parties submitted a notice in the Rajya Sabha on December 10, seeking the removal of Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar, accusing him of partisan conduct as the Chairman of the Upper House. While the motion to remove Dhankhar would require a simple majority in the 243-member Rajya Sabha, the opposition lacks the numbers needed to pass it. However, opposition leaders maintained that the motion was an important step to uphold parliamentary democracy.
The Rajya Sabha was adjourned till noon as both opposition and government members exchanged heated accusations over the no-confidence motion against Dhankhar.

"Being a senior BJP leader, I want to state it categorically. He (Modi) will become the prime minister in 2024 and 2029. No one can even comprehend this (Modi retiring at 75). The man has been responsible for raising India's stature in the world, and in strengthening India's economy," he told ANI news agency on Friday.
"Our economy has been growing faster, and even the international financial firms have been claiming that India's economy which was at 11th place jumped to 5th under Modi's rule. By 2027, India will be at third place. After America and China, India will be the next economic powerhouse. India has been inching closer to becoming a superpower. We aim to become a superpower not to bully anyone but for the welfare of the world," he added.
Singh was responding to Kejriwal's claims on May 16 that Prime Minister Modi has decided to make Amit Shah his successor.
Raking up his earlier claim about BJP's policy of retiring its leaders at the age of 75, Kejriwal said he expects Modi to follow this rule, adding that it was the PM who first introduced this policy.

Senior BJP leader Rajnath Singh on Wednesday questioned the intention behind the CPI(M)'s poll manifesto promise to dismantle nuclear weapons in the country and demanded to know the stand of the Congress on this issue.
Singh alleged talk of dismantling India's nuclear weapons amounted to playing with national security and that there was a "deep-rooted conspiracy to weaken the country".
He accused the Left and the Congress, both allies in the anti-BJP INDIA bloc, of apparently trying to weaken the country.
Speaking at a public meeting in Kasaragod Lok Sabha seat seeking votes for BJP candidate M L Ashwini, Singh demanded that the Congress should clarify its stand on the CPI(M)'s promise in the manifesto to dismantle nuclear weapons as it was the Indira Gandhi government which kicked off the country's nuclear programme in 1974.
He said India worked hard to become one of the 11 nuclear power nations in the world and dismantling its nuclear weapons will weaken the country whose neighbours Pakistan and China are nuclear powers.
The CPI(M) in its manifesto has said there will be "complete elimination of nuclear weapons and other weapons of mass destruction, including chemical and biological weapons." During his speech, he also said whoever in India has opposed Lord Ram has faced downfall, which is what has happened to the Congress and CPI(M).
Singh alleged that both the parties, which are allies in the INDIA bloc, do not understand the importance of Lord Ram or the festival of Ram Navami.
"Lord Ram and Indian culture unite the country from the south to the north. Lord Ram is our God and our cultural icon. But the Congress and the CPI(M) do not understand that. They have created hurdles in celebration of Ram Navami.
"We all know that, in our nation's history, whosoever has ever opposed Lord Ram faced downfall in the country. That is what has happened to Congress and the CPI(M)," he alleged.
Singh claimed that the Congress was opposed to the building the Ram Temple in Ayodhya and "today look at its condition in the country." "The Left parties are there only in a few pockets in India," he added.
He also claimed there was no difference in words and deeds of the BJP which was the most credible and trustworthy political party in the country.
However, the words and deeds of the Congress and Communist parties were different and therefore, it resulted in a "crisis of credibility" in Indian politics, Singh claimed.
He said this crisis was taken as a challenge by the BJP which has followed through on its poll promises made in the past.
Singh said the NDA government has followed through with its past promises to abrogate Article 370, do away with triple talaq and build the Ram Temple during its 10-year rule.
He said that if the BJP is voted to power again, then all of Modi's guarantees -- of India becoming a top world economy, welfare of farmers, making huge strides in the space sector and the development of the nation -- would be fulfilled.
"We are also committed to implementing the Uniform Civil Code in the next five years," he asserted.
Singh also raked up the Karuvannur Cooperative bank scam and the allegations of receipt of monthly payments by Kerala CM Pinarayi Vijayan's daughter and her firm from a private company, to attack the Left government and promised an unbiased probe into both matters.
The BJP leader also reached out to rubber farmers and the Christian community in the state.
He said the UDF and LDF will not do anything to resolve the problems being faced by rubber farmers in the state.
"Only the BJP will be able to help the rubber farmers," he said.
Singh alleged that the law and order situation was in shambles in the state as a Christian priest was attacked within church grounds, educational institutions were turning into centres of Communist workers, people were living in fear and those in power in the state were sleeping peacefully.
He said that the BJP does politics not to form government, but for nation-building.
The BJP leader urged the people of Kerala to oust the UDF and LDF from the state if they wanted the situation to improve.
He alleged both fronts show a "dual character" of fighting with each other in Kerala, but outside it they are campaigning together.
"They have harmed Kerala," he alleged.
Singh also said that both the Congress and the Left have a backward and outdated thinking, while the people of Kerala are forward-thinking and progressive.
Singh also expressed confidence that the BJP will win seats in double digits from Kerala in the Lok Sabha polls.
The Lok Sabha elections will be held in Kerala on April 26 and the results will be declared on June 4.

Defence minister Rajnath Singh claimed that PM Narendra Modi had stopped the ongoing Russia-Ukraine war to bring back Indian students. Singh said the prime minister spoke to the presidents of US, Russia and Ukraine to broker the diplomatic corridor.&nbsp;
"There is a war going on between Russia and Ukraine. Many Indian students were studying there. Missiles were being fired from Russia as well as Ukraine and a large number of people were being killed," Rajnath Singh said.
"Our Prime Minister spoke to the Presidents of Russia, Ukraine and America. The war was stopped for 4.5 hours and 22,500 of our students came to India from Ukraine." he added.

Defence Minister Rajnath Singh warned Pakistan against attempts to destabilise India through terrorism, in an interview with ANI on Thursday.
"If Pakistan attempts to destabilise India through terrorism, it will have to face the consequences. Pakistan needs to control terrorism," Singh said.
However, the defence minister put forth an offer along with the stern warning. Singh said India was ready to assist Pakistan, if the the neighbour found it difficult to combat terrorism.
"If Pakistan thinks that it is not capable of controlling it, then India is a neighbour, if they want to take India's help they should. India is ready to provide all assistance to combat terrorism," he said.
"They are our neighbours, and if their intention is clear that terrorism should end, they should do that themselves or take help from India. We both can end terrorism. But this is their call, I'm just giving a suggestion," Singh added.
The defence minister also clarified the 'ghuske marenge' remark made in a recent TV interview.
"We will not allow terrorists to operate within Indian borders. We will do everything to stop it," Singh said. He did not rule out operations across the border.

Union minister Rajnath Singh on Saturday took a dig at Rahul Gandhi, saying that like Mahendra Singh Dhoni in cricket, the Congress leader was the "best finisher" of Indian politics.
Speaking at an election campaign rally in Madhya Pradesh's Sidhi district, the senior BJP leader also alleged that Congress has an "unbreakable" relationship with corruption.
Congress once dominated Indian politics, but now it has a government only in two or three small states, he said.
"I sometimes wonder why this is happening, and I reach this conclusion. Who is the best finisher in cricket? (After people replied) Dhoni. If anyone asks me who is the best finisher in Indian politics, I will say it is Rahul Gandhi. This is the reason several leaders have left Congress," the senior BJP leader said.
At an earlier rally, Singh had taken a jibe at Gandhi saying he had vowed not to stop until he "finished" the Grand Old Party.
Congress and corruption were inextricably linked, Singh said, adding that most Congress governments faced corruption allegations, but no such allegations were made against any minister in Prime Minister Narendra Modi's government.
The Congress' relationship with corruption can be described by the song "Tu Chal Mein Aai" (I will follow you) in the Salman Khan- starrer "Maine Pyar Kiya," the minister said.
Singh also batted for 'one-nation, one-election, claiming that it will save time and resources.
Contrary to what Congress has been saying, simultaneous elections will strengthen Indian democracy, he said, adding that elections should be held twice in five years -- once for local bodies, followed by those for assemblies and the Lok Sabha.
Some big financial firms are predicting that India will be in the top three economies of the world by the start of 2027, and the Modi government has already put the country in the top five from the 11th spot ten years ago, the defence minister said.
India will be a superpower by 2045, Singh added.
When in power, Congress made several promises, and had they been fulfilled even partially, India would have become a powerful country long ago, he said.
The BJP, on the other hand, fulfilled all its promises in ten years, Singh said.
"See all our manifestoes, and (one will find) we did what we said. We have been saying since 1984 that we will construct a Ram temple (in Ayodhya)....The opposition was asking for a date. Now consecration (of the idol) has taken place," he said while also citing the abrogation of Article 370 and ban on triple talaq as examples of the party doing what it promised.
"We are standing with all the sisters and mothers irrespective of their religion. If the dignity and existence of sisters and mothers is at stake, the BJP will stand with them, no matter whether our government stays or not," he said.
Politics should not be done for appeasement, and the BJP is doing politics for building the nation, Singh said.
While citing terror activities during the UPA rule, the defence minister averred that India wants good relations with Pakistan.
"We want to maintain good relations with the neighbouring countries, because (former prime minister) Atal Bihari Vajpayee used to say that one can change one's friends but not the neighbours. We follow this (dictum). But if anyone tries to promote terrorism in our country, we will give a befitting reply," he said.
If provoked, India is no longer a weak country and can even take action by going across the border if necessary, Singh said, adding that the country has already demonstrated this in the last ten years.&nbsp;

Defence Minister Rajanth Singh has reacted to the report by the Guardian that the Indian government, through its intelligence agency Research and Analysis Wing, carried out assassinations of 20 terrorists on Pakistani soil.
In an interview to News18, Singh said that if any terrorist from Pakistan tries to harm India, &nbsp;they will be given a befitting reply.
"India always wants to maintain good relations with its neighbouring countries... But if anyone tries to provoke India again and again, comes to India, and tries to promote terrorist activities, then we will not spare them," Mr Singh said.
When prodded again, the minister reiterated that if the need arises, Indian forces will enter Pakistan, and eliminate threats.&nbsp;
"If they run away to Pakistan, we will enter Pakistan to kill them," Singh told the channel in response to a question about the report.
Earlier, the Indian government has firmly refuted claims made by the UK-based Guardian newspaper report that New Delhi, through its intelligence agency Research and Analysis Wing, carried out assassinations of terrorists on Pakistani soil since 2020.
Responding to the report, The Ministry of Foreign Affairs called the report false and malicious anti-India propaganda.
It also quoted Foreign Minister S Jaishankar, who had said recently that targeted killings in other countries were not the government of India's policy.
Quoting unnamed intelligence officers from Pakistan and India, the Guardian report claimed that Indian intelligence sleeper cells operating out of the United Arab Emirates carried out assassinations of terrorists in Pakistan. It claimed that 20 such assassinations have been reported since the Pulwama attack of 2019.
An Indian intelligence officer told the Guardian that the Pulwama attack prompted fears within the Indian government that militant groups in Pakistan were planning a repeat of attacks such as the 2008 Mumbai bombings.

The procurement proposals were cleared by the Defence Acquisition Council (DAC), headed by Defence Minister Rajnath Singh.
The proposals cleared by the DAC include new generation anti-tank mines, air defence tactical control radar, heavy weight torpedoes, medium range maritime reconnaissance and multi-mission maritime aircraft, flight refueller aircraft and software defined radios.
The DAC approved procurement of medium range maritime reconnaissance and multi-mission maritime aircraft for strengthening the surveillance and interdiction capabilities of the Indian Navy and the Indian Coast Guard, the defence ministry said.
A proposal to procure air defence tactical control radar was also approved with an aim to strengthen the air defence systems, especially the capabilities to detect slow, small and low-flying targets, it said.
"In order to enhance the operational efficiency and domination in the tactical battle area for engaging targets that are beyond visual line of sight by the mechanised forces, the AoN (approval of necessity) under Buy (Indian-IDDM) category has been accorded for procurement of canister launched anti-armour loiter munition system," the defence ministry said.
It said the DAC accorded AoN for procurement of Flight Refueller Aircraft for enhancing the operational capabilities and reach of the Indian Air Force.&nbsp;

Defence Minister Rajnath Singh on January 16 participated in a cleanliness drive at the Hanuman Setu temple in Lucknow. Singh was seen cleaning the floor of the temple premises with a broom. Singh paid obeisance at the temple.
BJP MP Anurag Thakur was also seen sweeping and cleaning the floor at Hanuman temple in Delhi on the same day.&nbsp;
Earlier, Prime Minister Narendra Modi urged people to carry out cleanliness drives at temples and places of religious importance ahead of the January 22 consecration ceremony at the Ram temple in Ayodhya.
Talking to reporters, Singh said, it is matter of joy for people that the consecration ceremony is being held. In the event, not only people from the country but also from abroad will participate, Singh said.

Defence Minister Rajnath Singh was briefed by Chief of Air Staff Air Chief Marshal V R Chaudhari on the crash of two IAF aircraft, they said.

Two fighter aircraft of the Indian Air Force crashed on Saturday, defence ministry sources said.
The sources said the exact location of the crash is being ascertained.
Preliminary reports suggested that one aircraft fell in Morena in Madhya Pradesh and other reportedly went down in the general area around Bharatpur, the sources said.
The fate of the pilots are not immediately known.

The minister said, "On 9 Dec 2022, Chinese PLA troops encroached across LAC in Tawang sector's Yangtse area in an attempt to unilaterally change the status quo. Indian Army bravely prevented PLA from encroaching on Indian territory, and forced them to return to their posts. Some soldiers on both sides suffered some injuries."
Following Rajnath Singh's statement, Rajya Sabha Deputy Chairman appealed to Opposition to not seek a discussion on the issue.

Harivansh said, "I would like to give some examples from past proceedings of this House. However, Opposition MPs protested the Deputy Chairman's decision by raising slogans like "charcha karo", i.e. have a discussion, and "charcha se kyo darte ho", i.e. why are you scared of a debate.

Lok Sabha proceedings were adjourned till 12 noon on Tuesday following opposition protests over the issue of clashes between Indian and Chinese troops in Tawang sector of Arunachal Pradesh.
Indian and Chinese troops clashed along the Line of Actual Control (LAC) in Tawang sector of Arunachal Pradesh on December 9 and the face-off resulted in "minor injuries to a few personnel from both sides", the Indian Army said on Monday.
The clash near Yangtse along the LAC in the sensitive sector took place last Friday amid the over 30-month border standoff between the two sides in eastern Ladakh.
Parliamentary Affairs Minister Pralhad Joshi said Defence Minister Rajnath Singh will make a statement on the matter at 12 noon.
However, the opposition members did not relent and continued to protests and sought immediate discussion on the issue.

The Defence Minister confirmed that a few soldiers were injured in the face-off, however, none of the Indian soldiers died or suffered any serious injury.
