West Bengal BJP's Murshidabad unit has announced plans to construct a Ram temple in Berhampore, days after TMC MLA Humayun Kabir proposed to set up a mosque modelled after the Babri Masjid at Beldanga in the same district.
The BJP said the temple&rsquo;s construction will begin on January 22, 2025, exactly one year after the inauguration of the Ram temple in Ayodhya. BJP&rsquo;s Berhampore organisational district president, Shakharav Sarkar, said land for the temple has already been identified, and the project is estimated to cost Rs 10 crore.&nbsp;
"We have already identified a land in Beharampore area and the construction work for the Ram Temple based on the design of the temple on Ayodhya will begin soon," he told reporters.
Kabir, the TMC MLA from Beldanga, had on Tuesday announced plans for the mosque, which he said would honour the sentiments of the region&rsquo;s significant minority population.
His remarks have sparked political controversy, with opposition parties accusing him of attempting to polarise communities for political gain.
The BJP&rsquo;s counterproposal to build a Ram temple is seen as a strategic move to strengthen its presence among the Hindu community in Murshidabad, a district where minorities make up around 75 per cent of the population.
Responding to the controversy, the TMC distanced itself from Kabir&rsquo;s remarks, describing them as his personal opinion.
&ldquo;The TMC has nothing to do with this statement of Kabir,&rdquo; a senior party leader said.&nbsp;
Kabir&rsquo;s announcement has also drawn criticism from the Congress, which accused him of playing divisive politics in a sensitive region.

Kishor pointed out that Prime Minister Modi's power as a "brand" has waned significantly in the 2024 elections compared to the 2014 polls.

Though Prime Minister Narendra Modi and other top brass of the BJP have been raking up the Ram temple construction in its election rallies, political strategist Prashant Kishor believes that the saffron party will not get even a single voter in the name of the temple.
In an interview with RTV Andhra Pradesh on May 17, Kishor said that the temple only finds resonance among the core BJP voters, while everyone else won't vote based on the issue. He said that there would be no incremental benefit for the BJP.
He further said that though Modi may not face any challenge from the opposition parties, he will definitely face the wrath of the people of this country.
"Ram Mandir is a big issue for BJP supporters. I didn't find anyone who was not giving the BJP vote in the name of Ram mandir earlier and will vote based on it today...there's no incremental benefit," &nbsp;he said in an interview with RTV Andhra Pradesh earlier this week.
"People are seeing in this election that brand Modi is not invincible. It's not like no one can challenge him. People are giving him a challenge, whether a political party or a leader challenges him or not," Kishor added.
He mentioned that opposition parties or their alliances might be weak, but the opposition from the people in the country is not weak.
"In a country where more than 60 crore people don't earn more than Rs 100 per day, there the Opposition against the government can never be weakened. Never make that mistake," Prashant Kishor said.&nbsp;
He said that PM Modi and BJP are definitely facing a challenge in this election.
"Rural distress is a major issue in the country...even after this if BJP is winning, that means the opposition parties are not strong enough or reliable."
"But that doesn't mean that every person of this country is happy with" the Modi government," the political strategist added.
Kishor pointed out that Prime Minister Modi's power as a "brand" has waned significantly in the 2024 elections compared to the 2014 polls.
He said, "In 2024, people are feeling that there's no one else to vote for... Brand Modi is weakening...the power of brand Modi is declining in comparison to what was seen in 2014 and 2019."

Author Amish Tripathi believes that the rebuilding of the Ram temple in Ayodhya is a 'moment of unity'. Speaking to Editorji's Vikram Chandra, the author said the legal procedure that led to the construction of the new Ram temple is 'an example' how such matters can be handled across the world without giving in to the 'tempers of the moment'.&nbsp;
Amish Tripathi also spoke about his documentary 'Ram Janmabhoomi Temple: The Return of a Splendid Sun' which chronicles the history of the Ram temple.&nbsp;
Here are some excerpts from the interview:
Vikram Chandra: Hello everyone, welcome to this Editorji special. We have with us none other than Amish Tripathi, who is of course India's number 1 best known author. The person behind the Ramchandra series, also the person behind the &lsquo;The Immortals of Meluha&rsquo;. If you really want to understand anything about Indian culture, Indian mythology and, by the way, Indian history also if you put Suheldev and other such stories into the mix, no one better could tell us about our own history and our own heritage and our own mythology more than Amish. So, Amish it's always a pleasure talking to you.&nbsp;
Amish Tripathi: Thank you Vikram. What an embarrassing introduction, thank you so much! I'll try live up to it.&nbsp;
Vikram Chandra: Accurate. It may be embarrassing but accurate. The interesting thing is&hellip; that is what I want to talk to you about&hellip; is you are now moving written text to video. This new documentary that you have just done on the Ram Mandir is actually been really burning up the charts right, it was fairly, it was beating a lot of movies when I last saw the Jio numbers.&nbsp;
Amish Tripathi: Yeah, it's&hellip; You know I think...the thing that struck me is that the rebuilding of this temple is actually, in a way, a seminal moment. Not just for a country, for a civilisation. Many, particularly among the youth, don't truly understand the significance of this. You can't blame them, because no one is telling them the entire story. You know, from the beginning till now, from the birth of Lord Ram till now&hellip; we thought that how about if we make a documentary on this. And we actually had a brief, you know the director, he actually said, "Look, we will not be left wing or right wing, we will only be Ram wing."
It is essentially a story which actually carries everyone along so that people can understand what truly happened, right. So what this documentary does&hellip; first of all we have the who is who, anyone associated with the movement and the temple itself. So, honourable Chief Minister Yogi Adityanth, Shri Shri Ravi Shankar who was in the mediation panel, Chief Justice Bobde who was in the panel that actually issued the judgement, Madhu Trehan who was among the only journalist who actually had video evidence of what happened in 1992.&nbsp;
We had historians like Meenakshi Jain, KK Mohammed the legendary archaeologist who was part of the group which actually did excavation work there&hellip;BR Mani who was the chief of the excavation that was ordered by the honourable high court of Prayagraj, then Allahabad. You know, so it truly is, and of course we got you know, even folk singers like Malini Awasthi who celebrates Lord Ram&hellip; Amjad Ali Khan who many don&rsquo;t know made the music for Ramayana. It is essentially a story of what Lord Ram means to us. The story of the temple itself from the beginning till now and what is the way forward. So, this actually&hellip; if you want to see one documentary to understand the entire story and a short one&hellip; 75 minutes that's it&hellip; this is the one to see. &nbsp;
Vikram Chandra: But you know, can I ask you one question, the issue with the story like this, the story of Lord Ram, is that sometimes it is very difficult to get everyone to understand or accept or to even be on the same page as what the story was and who better to point at out than you because your reading of the story of Lord Ram himself is very different from what the traditional story around him is with the fact that he was not&hellip; everyone believes that he was the most revered and the most loved person in Ayodhya through his entire childhood, your books have them actually is being almost an outcast.
Amish Tripathi: And he suffered, he suffered a lot, but even in the traditional Ramayana, he did suffer a lot. And I think that's a thing to learn from lord Ram that there are...
Vikram Chandra: But Amish, there are people of Ayodhya, everyone believes that people of Ayodhya loved Lord Ram all through his growing years and you are saying that is not true.&nbsp;
Amish Tripathi: No, in fact, even in the traditional Ramayana, there were some who didn't, like Manthara didn't, like Ma Kaikeyi didn't but how did he behave with them as well. Like the dhobi, when he came back, he didn't (like Ram). He questioned him as well. But how did he behave, and to me that is the lesson from Lord Ram. Someone like Ravan, he suffered greatly, but his reaction to his suffering was that he would revisit it to the world times ten. If you hurt me, I will hurt the entire world&hellip; that was Ravan's approach, right. Lord Ram&rsquo;s approach was that even to those who behave unfairly with him like Ma Kaikeyi, he behaved even more nobly, right. And this is one of the things, you know one of the things that beautifully came up in our documentary.
You know, we had of course, you know a sadhu who spoke to us. He told us his wonderful folk tradition that when Ravan was battlling Lord Ram and Lord Ram had defeated him. He let Ravana go saying he does not attack someone who is unarmed. Ravan then tells his wife Mandodari that there are many who say that Ram is the ideal son, the ideal friend, the ideal brother, but Ram is the ideal enemy as well. Ravan was lucky that he had an enemy like Lord Ram. So, in that sense, lord Ram is a precursor to what Mahatma Gandhi said&hellip; if you behave nobly, of course you improve your own character, but you actually improve the character of your enemy as well. Because even they are forced to, and I think these are the things that we can learn from Ram and the story. &nbsp; &nbsp;
This is a story that emerged for us from the way the Ram Janmabhoomi movement happened. And of course what happened in 1992, and even those who were there like, you know... the former Deputy Prime Minister LK Advani said that was wrong, but, if you see the movement after that, it was actually taken through a torturous process of law, where evidence was presented. There are such similar instances across the world, Hagia Sophia for example, right. What happened us, happened to many other cultures, you know across the world. This can be an example of how such issues can be handled. Not through the tempers of the moment and violence. But through a calm process of law where evidence is presented.
What's the benefit of something like this Vikram? One of the things that we learned, someone like Iqbal sahab who was actually one of the Muslim litigants, right, in the case and he actually said, I'm paraphrasing, but he said that if evidence is presented, you know that there was indeed a temple, he said he will accept his mistake and come for the darshan. And do you know that he was actually there on 22nd January. He said I want to come for the darshan&hellip; he was invited and he came, you know. If you go through a process of law where evidence is presented, where both sides can actually see what happens, it will probably lead to a better outcome. That was my learning, you know, from a documentary like this.
Vikram Chandra: Coming back to 1992 and the riot after that, obviously, the Ram Temple itself has become a highly politicised issue, not just the Ram Temple, even a simple phrase like &lsquo;Jai Shree Ram&rsquo;, which basically means victory to lord Ram, even that phrase became politically charged, a politically loaded phrase, right. Which is why it was interesting that on the 22nd, &lsquo;Jai Siya Ram&rsquo;, &lsquo;Siyavar Ram Chandra ki Jai&rsquo;, those sort of slogans were being used. How do you view that part of it? The politicisation of what is in&hellip; in other senses&hellip; something rooted in our history and our culture and our mythology.
Amish Tripathi: So look, politics does enter at times and one can't, you know, kind of step away from that. But the way I see it is politics will do what politics must. But there are those of us who are looking only at society and I think when you're looking at society, essentially, you're looking at a longer term period. Politics is by its very nature, and you can't blame politicians for that, is short term oriented because every politician will, and it's natural, will look only at the next elections as they should, you know, that's their job, right. Those of us who speak on society who speak on social issues, which are, which are much more long term oriented where the space one is looking at is at a much longer. It's not just for a few years, it is looking at a 20-year, 30-year period.&nbsp;
If you look at it from that perspective, then I think the rebuilding of the temple can be a moment of unity.&nbsp;

EaseMyTrip enters hospitality sector; to invest Rs 100-crore for 5 star hotel in Ayodhya

<h2>Rs 100 crores will be invested in Jeewani Hospitality Private Limited which is under incorporation for 50% of the aggregate share capital on a fully diluted basis through swap for building a 5 star hotel which is less than 1KM away from Ram Mandir in Ayodhya</h2>

Ram Mandir:&nbsp;Travel agency EaseMyTrip is all set to foray into hospitality sector as it plans to open a five-star hotel in Ayodhya, close to the vicinity of Ram Temple, which was inaugurated on January 22. The Board of the company has approved the proposal.
<h3>5-star hotel in Ayodhya</h3>
As per the proposal, a 5-star hotel will be built in Ayodhya which is less than 1KM from Shree Ram Mandir. Rs 100 crores will be invested in Jeewani Hospitality Private Limited which is under incorporation for 50% of the aggregate share capital on a fully diluted basis through swap.&nbsp;
An aggregate share is the number of shares of common stock issued and outstanding immediately prior to the Effective Time. Fully diluted basis through swap includes fresh issuance of the Company&rsquo;s own equity shares on preferential basis.
"The Board of Directors (&ldquo;Board&rdquo;) of Easy Trip Planners Limited (&ldquo;Company&rdquo;) in its meeting held today, i.e., on February 11, 2024, has, inter alia considered and in-principally approved the proposal to open a 5-star hotel in Ayodhya which is less than 1Km from Shree Ram Mandir through an investment of an amount of up to Rs 100 crores in Jeewani Hospitality Private Limited, a company under incorporation for 50% of the aggregate share capital of the said company on a fully diluted basis through swap i.e., fresh issuance of the Company&rsquo;s own equity shares on preferential basis", the company said in a statement.

EaseMyTrip CEO and co-founder Nishant Pitti said on X (former Twitter) Sunday: "..we have greenlit a groundbreaking proposal to venture into the hospitality sector with the establishment of a luxurious 5-star hotel in Ayodhya, strategically located less than 1 km from the revered Shree Ram Mandir. This decision marks a significant investment milestone of up to Rs 100 crore in Jeewani Hospitality Pvt Ltd, the entity spearheading this ambitious project."
"By leveraging EaseMyTrip&rsquo;s expertise in the travel and tourism industry, coupled with Jeewani Hospitality&rsquo;s commitment to excellence in hospitality, the venture is poised to set new standards in luxury accommodation in Ayodhya," he added.

The Lok Sabha and the Rajya Sabha will reportedly discuss the new Ram temple in Ayodhya on February 10.

The BJP has issued a whip to its MPs in Lok Sabha as well as Rajya Sabha to ensure their presence in Parliament on Saturday on account of some "very important" legislative business, which will be tabled for discussion and passage.
Though there was no official word on the nature of the business on the last day of the last session before the Lok Sabha polls, some party leaders said there is a possibility that it may touch the construction of the Ram temple in Ayodhya.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi had attended the consecration ceremony at the temple on January 22.
The event generated a nationwide appeal and the BJP believes that the temple issue will help create a positive atmosphere in its favour in the upcoming Lok Sabha polls.

The police complaint was filed based on Suranya Aiyar's posts on social media on January 20, condemning the 'Pran Pratistha' of Ram Temple in Ayodhya on January 22.

A police complaint has been lodged against Suranya Aiyar, daughter of Congress leader Mani Shankar Aiyar, for allegedly posting 'objectionable statements on social media'.
According to ANI on February 4, the complaint was filed by BJP leader and Supreme Court advocate Ajay Agrawal who said Aiyar made objectionable remarks on different social media platforms on January 20, against the consecration ceremony of Ram Lalla at the temple on January 22.&nbsp;
Earlier, taking umbrage at a protest fast by Congress leader Mani Shankar Aiyar's daughter Suranya Aiyar against the consecration ceremony at the Ayodhya Ram temple last month, a residents' welfare association in south Delhi's Jangpura had suggested the father-daughter duo to leave the colony.
Aiyar in a video posted on Facebook, however, stated that she did not live in the colony represented by the RWA and that she did not receive any "notice" (letter) from it.

Ram Mandir shows people's trust in judicial process: President Murmu

President Droupadi Murmu on Thursday said the Ram temple will be marked in history as "India's continued re-discovery of its civilisational heritage" and as a grand edifice, giving a befitting expression not only of people's faith but also as a testament to people's enormous trust in judicial process.
In her address to the nation on the eve of the 75th Republic Day, the president spoke on various issues including the welfare schemes initiated by the government and said it will be a proud day for the nation when it will be among those countries where homelessness "is a rarity".
She also touched on the conflicts that have emerged in several parts of the world and stressed at finding a way out in the light of reason.
"When each of the two conflicting sides believes that it is right and the other is wrong, the way out should be found in the light of reason. Unfortunately, instead of reason, fears and prejudices have fuelled passions, leading to relentless violence. There have been a series of humanitarian tragedies on a large scale, and we feel aggrieved over the human suffering," she said.
Citing the teachings of Vardhaman Mahavir, Samrat Ashoka and Mahatma Gandhi, the president said let's hope that the regions embroiled in conflicts will find a peaceful way to resolve conflicts and bring about peace.
Referring to the recent consecration rituals of Lord Ram at the newly-constructed temple at Ayodhya, she said when this event will be seen in the wider perspective, the future historians will consider it a landmark in India's continued re-discovery of its civilisational heritage.
"The construction of the temple commenced after the due judicial process and the decision of the highest court of the land. Now it stands as a grand edifice, giving a befitting expression not only of people's faith but also as a testament to people's enormous trust in the judicial process," she said.
Murmu said the "magnificent" G20 Summit hosted by India provided lessons for all in making citizens participants in strategic and diplomatic matters that are, in the final analysis, going to shape their own future.
"The G20 Summit also boosted India's emergence as the voice of the Global South, adding a necessary element to the international discourse," she said.
Talking about the economy of the country, she said India is moving ahead with confidence, which comes from and is also reflected by the robust health of the economy.
Emphasising that the nation is in the early years of Amrit Kaal, the period leading to the centenary of Independence, which is also the time of an epochal transformation, Murmu asked citizens to abide by fundamental duties enshrined in the Constitution.
"These duties are essential obligations of every citizen towards making Bharat a developed nation when it completes 100 years of independence. Here, I think of Mahatma Gandhi who had rightly said, 'No people have risen who thought only of rights. Only those did so who thought of duties'." She said the period of Amrit Kaal is also going to be the period of unprecedented technological changes.
"Technological advances like Artificial Intelligence and machine learning have moved from headlines into our daily lives at a breathtaking speed. There are numerous areas of concern in the foreseeable future, but there are also exciting opportunities ahead, especially for the youth. They are exploring new frontiers," she said.
The president said we have to remove hurdles from the path of youth and let them unleash their full potential.
"What they want is equality of opportunity. What they want is not the same old rhetoric of equality, but the realisation of our cherished ideal of equality," she said.
Underlining the welfare schemes launched by the government, Murmu said the government has not only expanded and enhanced the welfare schemes, but it has also redefined the idea of welfare itself.
She said there are reasons to believe that the extraordinary performance of the economy which recorded highest GDP growth among major economies will continue in the year 2024 and beyond.
Murmu said the same farsighted planning that fuels the economy has also given a push to the welfare drive to make the development inclusive in every sense of the term.
"The government had increased the scope of schemes to provide free food to the weaker sections of society during the pandemic days. These measures were later continued to extend a helping hand to the vulnerable population to come out of that crisis," she said.
Murmu said expanding the scope of that initiative, the government has decided to provide free food grains to over 81 crore people for five years which may be the biggest welfare initiative of its kind in history.
She said from the availability of safe and adequate drinking water at home to the security of having one's own home, there have been a number of mission-mode schemes to increase the ease of living for all citizens by catering to their basic minimum requirements, not privileges.
"These matters are beyond any political or economic ideology and must be seen from a humanitarian perspective. The government has not only expanded and enhanced the welfare schemes, but it has also redefined the idea of welfare itself," she said.
The president said it will be a proud day for us all when India becomes one of those few countries where homelessness is a rarity.
She said there have been a series of humanitarian tragedies on a large scale, and we feel aggrieved over the human suffering.
"Let us hope that the regions embroiled in conflicts will find a peaceful way to resolve conflicts and bring about peace," she said.
Murmu said the National Education Policy gives adequate thrust to bridge the digital divide and create a uniform educational structure for the benefit of the underprivileged students.
"The expanding insurance cover of the Ayushman Bharat scheme aims to bring together all beneficiaries under its umbrella and provides a great reassurance to the poor and the vulnerable," she said.
Invoking BR Ambedkar and his role in framing the Constitution, she said democracy implies diversity of culture, beliefs and practices. Celebrating diversity implies equality, which is upheld by justice.
"Freedom is what makes it all possible. The totality of these values and principles is what makes us Indian," Murmu said.
Calling former Bihar chief minister Karpoori Thakur, who was awarded the Bharat Ratna, a tireless champion of social justice, she said he was one of the greatest advocates of backward classes who dedicated his life for their welfare.
The president also lauded India's quest in space through Moon mission, Solar explorer Aditya L1, deep space probe X-ray Polarimeter Satellite called XPoSat, under preparation man-mission Gaganyaan and other technological milestones.
"We have always been proud of our scientists and technology experts, but now they are aiming far higher than before and delivering too. India's space programme is aimed at expanding and deepening the role of science and technology for the benefit of the entire humanity," she said.
Murmu said the nation has progressed further towards the ideal of gender equality, when the Parliament passed the historic Women's Reservation Bill.
"I believe the Nari Shakti Vandan Adhiniyam will prove to be a revolutionary tool of women's empowerment. It will also go a long way in improving the processes of our governance.
"When more women will be involved in matters of collective importance, our administrative priorities will be more in tune with the needs of the masses," she said.

At least six babies, both boys and girls, who were born in government-run and private hospitals in Kendrapara and Jagatsinghpur districts on January 22, were named after Lord Ram and Devi Sita by their parents.
Though tradition and customary practice in Odisha is to name a baby on the 21st day of the birth after a puja, the parents visibly overwhelmed over the Lord Ram 'Pran Pratishtha' ceremony on Monday went ahead to name newborns Ram, Sita.
"It&rsquo;s a momentous day for all the practitioners of Sanatan Dharma. For us, it is a double delight because of the new arrival to our family", said Priyanka Mallick (24), who gave birth to a girl child.
The birth of her baby took place at around 1 pm at Kendrapara district headquarters hospital shortly after the consecration ceremony of the Ram temple in Ayodhya.
"We have decided to name our daughter as Sita to commemorate the epoch-making day", said Narayan, father of the newborn.
Many parents were happy with the birth of the baby on the auspicious day.
Renubala Rout (24) was elated after delivering a male child on Monday in a private nursing home in Kendrapara town.
"I have become the father of a male child on the Ram temple consecration ceremony day. His birth on the auspicious day has made us ecstatic. We decided to name our son as Ram", said an overjoyed Ajay, the husband of Renubala.

At least 47 babies were delivered in different hospitals in three districts of Madhya Pradesh on Monday as the country celebrated the consecration of the idol of Ram Lalla at the temple in Ayodhya, health officials said.
While 33 babies were born in three hospitals in Indore, the figure was 13 for Damoh and one for Bhopal, they said.
In Indore's state-run PC Sethi hospital, 18 babies, comprising nine girls and as many boys, were born on Monday, Dr Veerendra Rajgir told PTI.
While 17 were normal deliveries, one was a caesarean procedure, Rajgir added Eleven infants were born through normal deliveries, while three were delivered by caesarean operation at the government-run MTH Hospital in Indore, senior gynaecologist Dr Sumitra Yadav told PTI.
The infants, comprising eight girls and six boys, are doing well, she added.
Similarly, a girl was born in a caesarean delivery at Depalpur Civil Hospital, Dr Sushma Boriwal said. The baby was born to the couple Sanjana and Lokesh, she said.
Talking to PTI, Lokesh said, "I was in touch with the doctors and medical staff of the hospital to have the baby delivered on January 22, but was told it had not completed its term. However, Sanjana complained of pain around 11 am, after which the operation was performed." Both the mother and child are in good health, he said.
A boy was born through caesarean procedure in a private hospital in capital Bhopal, Dr Manisha Jain said.
In Damoh district, seven boys and six girls were born during the day, Resident Medical Officer (RMO) Dr Vishal Shukla said.
"I have named my son Ram as he was born on this auspicious day," one of the new mothers Dhankunwar said.
The total number of births on Monday across the state will take time to compile, a senior health official pointed out.&nbsp;

&ldquo;Ayodhya has the potential to become a globally renowned smart city and the spiritual capital of the world. Our investment in Ayodhya marks the inception of a lasting relationship with Uttar Pradesh, and we are committed to furthering our presence in culturally and spiritually rich areas. Of our ₹1200 crore investment, Phase 1 of our luxury project is also underway. The company's plotted project in Ayodhya is &nbsp;located around 12 to 15 minutes away from the upcoming Ram Temple. Bollywood actor Amitabh Bachchan has also bought a plot in the Sarayu, a 7-star mixed-use enclave valued &nbsp;at&nbsp; Rs 14.5 crore by the Mumbai-based developer.

The company which is fully digital allows customers to directly purchase land through its app. NRIs in Middle East and USA constitute about 24% of the total interest in the Ayodhya project. 22% who have shown interest come from &nbsp;regions of Lucknow, Kanpur, and Meerut. Additionally, 35% of the interest emanates from Delhi NCR, while the remaining percentage is distributed among various locations such as Mumbai and similar areas.

The SBI report also mentions that the tourist spending in the state will double this year compared to 2022, expecting the total expenditure to cross Rs 4 lakh crore mark by the end of this year.
&ldquo;Given the completion of Ram Mandir in Ayodhya and initiatives taken by the UP government to promote tourism, we believe that the total expenditure by tourists in UP may cross Rs 4 lakh crore mark by end of this year,&rdquo; the report noted.
