Crime data published by&nbsp;by the National Crime Records Bureau (NCRB) shows that despite the lockdown&nbsp;last year crime rates have dipped marginally but rate of 'riots' have almost doubled.&nbsp;According to the latest data&nbsp;communal riots registered an increase of 96% in 2020, caste riots saw an increase of close to 50%, agrarian riots 38% and riots during &lsquo;andolan/morcha&rsquo; increased by 33% vs the previous year.&nbsp;
As per the data released 2020 saw 857 cases of communal riots being registered across the country a with the Delhi Police alone registering 520 cases of communal riots in the year due to the Northeast Delhi riots of February last year.Cases of caste conflict however, were highest in Bihar&nbsp;followed by Maharashtra&nbsp;and Uttar Pradesh.&nbsp;
As per the NCRB&nbsp;data India recorded an average of 80 murder and 77 rape cases everyday in 2020.The country witnessed a total of 29,193 fatalities with Uttar Pradesh accounting for maximum murders with 3779 such cases

An SHO and three police officers of the Uttar Pradesh Police were suspended after a photo went viral of them using plastic stool and a wicker basket as protective gear while handling a riot situation in Unnao.
UP Police in a tweet said an explanation has been sought from the Superintendent of Police of Unnao as to why such laxity, incompetence and unprofessional behaviour was seen by the cops whereas the force has been supplied with sufficient riot gears in all districts.
The Uttar Pradesh Police has faced a lot of criticism for not providing enough riot gear to the police force on the ground.
