A record number of around 26 Indian-origin members of Parliament have been elected to the House of Commons in the UK's general election as results were announced on Friday, with several Conservatives surviving an overall brutal outcome for their party.
Outgoing prime minister Rishi Sunak leads the Tory charge of British Indians holding on to their seats, with a decisive win in his Richmond and Northallerton constituency in Yorkshire. It would have come as small consolation for the Tory leader, who saw his party haemorrhage over 200 seats as the Labour Party's landslide victory unfolded.
&ldquo;On this difficult night, I would like to express my gratitude to the people of the Richmond and Northallerton constituency for your continued support. Since I moved here a decade ago, you have made me and my family feel so at home and I look forward to serving you for years to come,&rdquo; said Sunak, in a message clearly aimed at dismissing pre-election chatter around his future plans as a politician.
Other prominent British Indian Tories holding on to their seats included former home secretaries, Suella Braverman and Priti Patel, as did Sunak&rsquo;s Goan-origin Cabinet ally Claire Coutinho. Gagan Mohindra held on to his South West Hertfordshire seat for the Conservatives, with Shivani Raja registering a gain for the party in the keenly watched constituency of Leicester East where she was contesting against fellow Indian-origin Labour candidate Rajesh Agrawal. They had both canvassed around the topic of saving the city&rsquo;s famous Diwali lights from being switched off over council budget cuts, as did former MP Keith Vaz who was contesting as an Independent this time.
Among the big losses on the Tory side included Shailesh Vara, who narrowly lost his North West Cambridgeshire seat to Labour, and first-timer Ameet Jogia, who also lost the Tory-held Hendon seat in London to Labour.
Reflective of the overall election results tally, it was the Labour Party that saw the maximum number of winning Indian diaspora candidates, starting with party veterans such as Seema Malhotra &ndash; who held on to her Feltham and Heston constituency with a comfortable margin. Goan-origin Valerie Vaz, sister of Keith Vaz, won in Walsall and Bloxwich, as did Lisa Nandy with a big margin in Wigan.
British Sikh MPs Preet Kaur Gill, who defeated Tory first-timer Ashvir Sangha, and Tanmanjeet Singh Dhesi both won back their seats for Labour in Birmingham Edgbaston and Slough respectively. Navendu Mishra (Stockport) and Nadia Whittome (Nottingham East) were among the other Labour MPs re-elected with convincing majorities.
It was among the newcomers that British Indians made a big mark for the Labour Party, with Jas Athwal (Ilford South), Baggy Shanker (Derby South), Satvir Kaur (Southampton Test), Harpreet Uppal (Huddersfield), Warinder Juss (Wolverhampton West), Gurinder Josan (Smethwick), Kanishka Narayan (Vale of Glamorgan), Sonia Kumar (Dudley), Sureena Brackenbridge (Wolverhampton North East), Kirith Entwistle (Bolton North East), Jeevun Sandher (Loughborough) and Sojan Joseph (Ashford) among those set to take their seats in Parliament next week.
For the Liberal Democrats, who had a good election all round gaining over 60 seats, Munira Wilson won back her Twickenham constituency.
One of the seats on the Labour watch list was Islington North, where suspended former party leader Jeremy Corbyn contested as an Independent to defeat his British Indian Labour challenger Praful Nargund.

British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak says the British people have &ldquo;delivered a sobering verdict" as he conceded that the left-of-center Labour Party has won the general election.
"The Labour Party has won this General Election and I've called (Labour leader) Sir Keir Starmer to congratulate him on his victory. Today, power will change hands in a peaceful and orderly manner with good will on all sides. That is something that should give us all confidence in our country's stability and future," Sunak said.
He said he took &ldquo;responsibility&rdquo; for his party&rsquo;s loss, and that "there is much to learn and reflect on".
Voters in the U.K. cast their ballots Thursday in a national election to choose the 650 lawmakers who will sit in Parliament for the next five years.
With more than half of all seats counted, Labour, led by Keir Starmer, has gained at least 326 seats, enough to have a majority in Parliament.
An exit poll suggested that after 14 years in power under five different prime ministers, Sunak &rsquo;s Conservatives are set to have their seats in the 650-seat House of Commons cut down to 131.
That would be the Tories&rsquo; worst result in the party&rsquo;s two-century history and one that would leave the party in disarray.

Keir Starmer is set to become Britain's next prime minister after his Labour Party hurled towards a landslide majority on Friday in the parliamentary elections and dealt a bruising defeat for incumbent premier Rishi Sunak's Conservative Party.
As Labour crossed the halfway mark of 650 constituencies to clinch the minimum 326 required for a majority in Parliament, Starmer, 61, stepped up to make his victory speech in London just hours away from formally becoming the new Prime Minister of the United Kingdom.
"We did it, you campaigned for it, you fought for it, you voted for it and now it has arrived, change begins now," declared Starmer to a cheering crowd, promising that the work begins right away.
He pledged &ldquo;national renewal&rdquo; following 14 years of Conservative rule.
However, Starmer cautioned that having &ldquo;a mandate like this comes with a great responsibility.&rdquo; Meanwhile, the country&rsquo;s first British Indian prime minister comfortably held on to his own Richmond and Northallerton seat in northern England with 23,059 votes but failed to turn things around for his party at a national level.
A sombre-looking Sunak, 44, was joined by his wife Akshata Murty as his future as a member of Parliament was decided and chose to use his acceptance speech to also admit his party&rsquo;s defeat in winning another term in government.
"The Labour Party has won this general election and I have called Sir Keir Starmer to congratulate him on his victory," said Sunak, acknowledging the &ldquo;sobering verdict&rdquo; handed to his party and taking "responsibility for the loss".
He pledged to &ldquo;continue to serve&rdquo; his constituents for the &ldquo;weeks, months and years ahead&rdquo; and stressed that the transfer of power at Westminster will take place in a &ldquo;peaceful and orderly manner with goodwill on all sides&rdquo;.
With some of the most prominent ministers and MPs including Grant Shapps, Penny Mordaunt and Jacob Rees Mogg losing the election, the results are being dubbed a &ldquo;bloodbath&rdquo; for the Conservatives.
Among the new Tory MPs included British Indian candidate Shivani Raja who beat Labour's candidate, former deputy mayor of London Rajesh Agrawal, in the closely watched Leicester East constituency.
Earlier, Keir Starmer won his own seat of Holborn and St. Pancras in London with 18,884 votes and was mobbed by his supporters who could see he was on course to being named Prime Minister.
"The change begins right here. Because this is your democracy, your community and your future. You have voted. It is now time for us to deliver," said Starmer, in his acceptance speech.
While the customary election night exit poll forecast 410 seats for the Opposition party, the outlook as the trends and results tally takes shape is pegging it around 408 seats with the Tories pushed down to around 150.
The Liberal Democrats are also among the big winners of this election, set to bag over 50 members of Parliament. Meanwhile, the Scottish National Party (SNP) which fought on the Independence for Scotland ticket was on course to lose several seats to Labour.
However, a major trend that will dominate the discourse in the coming weeks and months will be Nigel Farage finally being elected as an MP at his eighth attempt and leading his anti-immigration Reform UK to bagging first-time seats in the Commons.
The Reform leader overturned a 25,000 Conservative majority to take Clacton in Essex by more than 8,000 votes, reflective of a wider trend of the party eating into the Tory votes.
Farage, a divisive figure, dubbed his win as the "the first step of something that is going to stun all of you", describing it as the &ldquo;beginning of the end&rdquo; of the Conservative Party.
"There is a massive gap on the centre-right of British politics and my job is to fill it," he declared.

David Cameron, Theresa May, Boris Johnson, Liz Truss and now Rishi Sunak -- all Conservatives. UK voters have broken the 14-year streak of dominance of the Tories. The Labour Party has now got control of the lower house, putting Keir Starmer in 10 Downing Street.
While every Conservative Party PM has had their own challenges, outgoing PM Sunak was the final nail in the coffin. Economic stress from Brexit, cutting down government funding and services and widening gap between the elite and the rest have been reported as the biggest contributors to his loss.
The party has been plagued by several controversies too. For example, several members of Sunak's inner circle are currently being investigated for allegedly using inside information to place bets on the date of the election before it was announced.
But the loss was expected. Sunak was showing signs of hopelessness, admitting that voters were frustrated with him. To make matters worse, he urged people not give their opponents a "supermajority."
Through the six week campaign, Sunak consistently faced the angst of the voters and trailed 61-year-old Starmer led Labour Party.
Both leaders wrapped up their poll pitches with contrasting messages &mdash; Sunak urging voters to not hand &ldquo;tax-raising&rdquo; Labour a &ldquo;supermajority&rdquo; and Starmer playing down the prospect of a landslide win for fear of a low turnout impacting the final outcome.

Britain's political leaders made a frantic push for votes late Wednesday in the last hours of an election campaign expected to return a Labour government after 14 years of Conservative rule.
Prime Minister Rishi Sunak insisted in a closing speech to supporters that the contest was "not over", while conceding he was the "underdog". It came hours after a final flurry of polls showed his ruling Tories on course for a record defeat to Labour.
They had suffered a further 11th hour blow when The Sun tabloid -- famous for backing election winners -- endorsed Keir Starmer's Labour.
Polls show his centre-left party set for its first general election win since 2005 -- making Starmer the party's first prime minister since Gordon Brown in 2010.
It would represent a swing leftwards for the UK after almost a decade and-a-half of right-wing Conservative governments, dominated first by austerity, then Brexit and now a cost-of-living crisis.
Starmer, 61, criss-crossed the country in a bid to shore up support and warn against over-confidence in the campaign's remaining hours.
"What I've said to the team is nobody is to be complacent," he told reporters, aboard the same plane that took the England football team to the European Championships in Germany.
Quipping that he hoped it would not be bringing them home anytime soon, Starmer said Labour had been doing "a lot of preparation" for governing.
"We're not going to get a period of time for grace. We're going to start straight away."
<h3>Bigger than Blair?</h3>
Sunak, 44, sought to hammer home his oft-repeated warnings that a Labour government would mean tax rises and weaker national security -- jibes that Labour has branded "desperate".
The Tories also stepped up their warnings over the perils of Labour winning a "supermajority", which its rival fears is intended to hit turnout.
Senior minister and Sunak ally Mel Stride said Wednesday the electorate would "regret" handing Labour "untrammelled" power without an effective Tory opposition.
Ex-PM Boris Johnson -- ousted by his own colleagues, including Sunak, in 2022 -- staged his first major intervention of the campaign Tuesday, urging people not to see the result as a "foregone conclusion".
Sunak reiterated the message at a last event 24 hours later in Hampshire, southern England.
"It is not over until the final whistle blows, my friends, and I can also tell you that this underdog will fight to that final whistle," he told supporters.
Labour has enjoyed consistent double-digit poll leads over the past two years, with many voters dissatisfied at the Conservatives' handling of various issues including public services, immigration and the economy.
Several surveys predict Labour will win more than the record 418 seats it secured when ex-leader Tony Blair ended 18 years of Conservative rule in 1997.
Labour requires at least 326 seats to secure a majority in the 650-seat parliament.
<h3>'Change'</h3>
Voters head to the polls from 7:00 am (0600 GMT) Thursday, with results expected from around 2230 GMT into Friday morning.
The vote is Britain's first July election since 1945, when Labour under Clement Attlee defeated the Conservatives of World War II leader Winston Churchill, ushering in a period of transformational social change.
Attlee's government created the modern welfare state, including the state-run National Health Service (NHS), Britain's most cherished institution after the royal family.
Starmer's "change" agenda is not so radical this time around and promises cautious management of the economy, as part of a long-term growth plan that includes nursing battered public services back to health.
A Labour government would face a formidable to-do list, ranging from spurring anaemic growth to ending NHS strikes and improving post-Brexit ties with Europe.
Some voters simply eye a respite from politics after a chaotic period of five prime ministers, a succession of scandals and Tory infighting between centrists and right-wingers that shows no sign of abating.
Endorsing Labour, The Sun called the Conservatives a "divided rabble, more interested in fighting themselves than running the country", adding: "It is time for a change."
Starmer -- the working-class son of a tool maker and a nurse -- lacks the political charisma or popularity of Blair, who presided over that last Labour victory in 2005.
But the former human rights lawyer and chief public prosecutor stands to gain from a country fed up with the Tories, and a feeling of national decline.
Arch-Eurosceptic Nigel Farage hopes the discontent will see him elected an MP at the eighth time of trying, while the Liberal Democrats are expected to gain dozens of seats.

The 44-year-old leader laid out his record in office in his pitch to the British electorate, who will soon give their verdict at the ballot box.
"I will do everything in my power to provide you with the strongest possible protection I can. That is my promise to you&hellip; now is the moment for Britain to choose its future,&rdquo; he said.
It comes as the governing Conservative Party is forecast for a general election drubbing by most opinion polls, with the Opposition Labour Party holding a firm lead after a series of recent byelection and local election victories.
A Labour spokesperson said the party is "fully ready to go whenever" and that the country is "crying out for a general election".
Earlier, speculation around a UK general election being around the corner, possibly in early July, went on overdrive as Sunak chaired a Cabinet meeting at 10 Downing Street for which ministers rather unusually cut short foreign visits and changed their plans to ensure they can attend.

An inquiry set up to assess Britain's handling of the COVID-19 pandemic was told about a diary entry that puts UK PM Rishi Sunak in the dock.
The note dated 25th October 2020, in the diary of Patrick Vallance, the government's chief scientific adviser during COVID, showed that Sunak, who was the finance minister then, said the government should "just let people die" during the pandemic instead of imposing a second national lockdown.
The note had quoted former PM Boris Johnson's adviser as saying this about Sunak.
According to Reuters, Vallance quoted Cummings in his diary as saying: "Rishi thinks just let people die and that's okay. This all feels like a complete lack of leadership."

Former British Home Secretary Suella Braverman lashed out at Prime Minister Rishi Sunak a day after he fired her, calling his approach &ldquo;uncertain, weak&rdquo; and a betrayal of his promises.
In a resignation letter she published on Tuesday, Braverman said Sunak had &ldquo;manifestly and repeatedly failed to deliver&rdquo; on key pledges and alleged that he &ldquo;never had any intention&rdquo; of keeping them.
Sunak sacked Braverman on Monday after she made a series of intemperate statements that deviated from the government line. In recent weeks she called homelessness a &ldquo;lifestyle choice&rdquo; and accused police of being too lenient with pro-Palestinian protests, which she called &ldquo;hate marches.&rdquo; On Saturday, far-right protesters scuffled with police and tried to confront a pro-Palestinian march by hundreds of thousands through the streets of London. Critics accused Braverman's language of helping to inflame tensions.
In her letter, she said Sunak had rejected her calls to ban pro-Palestinian demonstrations calling for a cease-fire in Gaza.
&ldquo;Britain is at a turning point in our history and faces a threat of radicalization and extremism in a way not seen for 20 years. I regret to say that your response has been uncertain, weak and lacking in the qualities of leadership that this country needs,&rdquo; she wrote.
As home secretary, Braverman championed the government's stalled plan to send asylum-seekers who arrive in Britain in boats on a one-way trip to Rwanda. A UK Supreme Court ruling on whether the policy is legal is due on Wednesday.
Braverman has called for the UK to leave the European Convention on Human Rights if the Rwanda plan is blocked, a move Sunak has not supported.
She accused Sunak of having no &ldquo;Plan B&rdquo; if the government loses the Supreme Court case. She said his reluctance to remove Britain from international rights agreements was &ldquo;a betrayal of your promise to the nation that you would do whatever it takes' to stop the boats.&rdquo; Sunak's office said the prime minister would &ldquo;continue to tackle illegal migration ... whatever the outcome of the Supreme Court case.&rdquo; &ldquo;The prime minister was proud to appoint a strong, united team yesterday focused on delivering for the British people," his Downing Street office said in a statement.
Her fusillade of scorn is part of Braverman's bid to cement her place as leader of the Conservative Party's authoritarian right wing. She's seen as likely to run for party leader in a contest that could come if the Conservatives lose power in an election due next year.
Opinion polls put the party as much as 20 points behind the Labour opposition.
Although Braverman is a rallying figure for some Conservatives, she has the support of a minority of the party's lawmakers. More centrist Tories see her as reviving the authoritarian and intolerant &ldquo;nasty party&rdquo; image that the Conservatives have long worked to shed, starting with the government of Prime Minister David Cameron between 2010 and 2016.
Cameron, widely regarded as politically moderate and socially liberal, returned to government Monday in the Cabinet shuffle that ousted Braverman. Sunak appointed him foreign secretary, making Cameron the first ex-prime minister for half a century to hold another Cabinet post.

UK Prime Minister Rishi Sunak gave a speech on Wednesday that covered topics ranging from smoking to healthcare and migration at the Conservative Party conference.

Sunak said he was cancelling the rest of the embattled HS2 project because its costs have doubled and &ldquo;the facts have changed.&rdquo;
Like many Conservatives, he invoked the spirit of former Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher, whose free-market policies transformed Britain in the 1980s, at a high cost to working-class communities.
Sunak suggested he was Thatcher's political heir &mdash; and not the five other Conservative prime ministers since.
"We must end the national scandal where our benefit system declares that more than 2 million people of working age are incapable of actually doing any. That's not conservative. That's not compassionate. That must change," he said.

The fees and health surcharge paid towards the UK&rsquo;s state-funded National Health Service (NHS) by visa applicants from around the world, including Indians, are set to rise "significantly&rdquo; to meet the country&rsquo;s public sector wage increase, Prime Minister Rishi Sunak said on Thursday.
The British Indian leader, who was under pressure to accept the recommendation of an independent review of pay for teachers, police, junior doctors and other public sector workers, confirmed a hike between 5 and 7 per cent across the board.

&ldquo;If we&rsquo;re going to prioritise paying public sector workers more, that money has to come from somewhere else because I&rsquo;m not prepared to put up people&rsquo;s taxes and I don&rsquo;t think it would be responsible or right to borrow more because that would just make inflation worse,&rdquo; Sunak told reporters at a Downing Street press conference.
&ldquo;So, what we have done are two things to find this money. The first is, we are going to increase the charges that we have for migrants who are coming to this country when they apply for visas and indeed something called the Immigration Health Surcharge (IHS), which is the levy that they pay to access the NHS," he said.
"All of those fees are going to go up and that will raise over GBP 1 billion, so across the board visa application fees are going to go up significantly and similarly for the IHS,&rdquo; he added.
Sunak reiterated this was &ldquo;entirely right&rdquo; as these fees have not been increased recently and the government believes it is appropriate given that the costs have risen since the last hike.
The second action to meet the country&rsquo;s higher wage bill is about asking government departments to &ldquo;reprioritise&rdquo;.
He insisted this would not mean cuts to jobs and services but a re-focussing on different priorities.

The British Indian leader issued a video message to say he shared the public&rsquo;s &ldquo;horror&rdquo; over the spate of attacks and that he had ordered urgent work to define and ban the American XL Bully dog breed. The issue has been in the headlines since last week when an 11-year-old girl suffered serious injuries after being attacked in Birmingham by a similar breed.
&ldquo;The American XL bully dog is a danger to our communities, particularly our children,&rdquo; said Sunak in his message recorded at 10 Downing Street.
 &ldquo;I share the nation&rsquo;s horror at the recent videos we&rsquo;ve all seen. Yesterday we saw another suspected XL bully dog attack, which has tragically led to a fatality. It is clear this is not about a handful of badly trained dogs, it&rsquo;s a pattern of behaviour and it cannot go on,&rdquo; he said.
Sunak pointed out that under current laws, owners already have a responsibility to keep their dogs under control, but he wanted to reassure people that he is urgently working on ways to stop these attacks.
&ldquo;Today I have tasked ministers to bring together police and experts, to firstly define the breed of dog behind these attacks, with the view to then outlawing it. It is not currently a breed defined in law, so this vital first step must happen fast. We will then ban the breed under the Dangerous Dogs Act and new laws will be in place by the end of the year,&rdquo; said Sunak.
&ldquo;These dogs are dangerous, I want to reassure the public that we will take all necessary steps to keep people safe,&rdquo; he added.
Members of the public tried to help as the latest victim was attacked by two dogs outside a property in Stonnall, Staffordshire in the West Midlands region, on Thursday afternoon, while police said they stopped some children leaving a nearby primary school for &ldquo;safety reasons&rdquo;.
The critically injured man was taken to hospital where he was later declared dead.
&ldquo;Ambulance staff administered advanced life support and advanced trauma care to him at the scene,&rdquo; a West Midlands Ambulance Service spokesperson said.
&ldquo;Treatment continued en route to Queen Elizabeth Hospital where he was conveyed by land ambulance for further treatment. Unfortunately, after arrival at the hospital, despite the best efforts it became clear that nothing more could be done to save him and he was confirmed deceased,&rdquo; the spokesperson said.
A 30-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of having dogs dangerously out of control after the incident and an investigation is underway, including to establish the dogs&rsquo; breed.

British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak on Sunday conveyed the UK&rsquo;s &ldquo;significant concerns&rdquo; about alleged Chinese interference in the UK's parliamentary democracy to the country&rsquo;s Premier at the G20 Summit in New Delhi, after a UK media report revealed spying charges against two men.
Sunak met Li Qiang as &lsquo;The Sunday Times&rsquo; reported that two men were arrested under the UK&rsquo;s Official Secrets Act amid claims a parliamentary researcher in Britain spied for China. One of the men, in his 20s, was a researcher with links to several governing Conservative Party MPs and another man in his 30s were both said to have been arrested in March and now out on bail.
"The Prime Minister met Premier Li Qiang and conveyed his significant concerns about Chinese interference in the UK's parliamentary democracy," a 10 Downing Street spokesperson said.
Both men were held at a south London police station until being released on bail until early October. The Metropolitan Police's Counter Terrorism Command, which oversees espionage-related offences, is investigating the case.
"A man in his 30s was arrested at an address in Oxfordshire and a man in his 20s was arrested at an address in Edinburgh. Searches were also carried out at both the residential properties, as well as at a third address in east London," the Met Police said.

British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak and his wife Akshata Murty visited the Akshardham temple on Sunday and offered prayers.
Ahead of the visit of G20 leaders to Rajghat to pay homage to Mahatma Gandhi, Sunak, who was dressed in trousers and a shirt, and his wife, wearing a kurta with palazzo, reached the temple early morning and were accorded a traditional welcome.
Sunak was then greeted by swamis, as well as senior leaders from the Akshardham Mandir, who relayed a special message on behalf of Mahant Swami Maharaj, spiritual leader of the Bochasanwasi Akshar Purushottam Swaminarayan Sanstha (BAPS).
During his visit, the British prime minister was given an overview of Swaminarayan Akshardham, a 100-acre spiritual and cultural complex that portrays the traditions and ancient architecture of India and promotes the timeless Hindu spiritual messages of faith, devotion and harmony, a statement issued by BAPS said.
Inside the main temple complex, Sunak and his wife paid their respects to the sacred images and admired the art and architecture.
The couple also performed abhishek (ritual pouring of water) on the 'murti' of Shri Nilkanth Varni Maharaj, and offered prayers for world peace, progress and harmony, the statement said.
"My wife and I were delighted to visit Swaminarayan Akshardham for darshan and puja this morning. We were amazed and awed by the beauty of this temple and its universal message of peace, harmony, and becoming a better human being. This is not only a place of worship, but a landmark that also portrays India's values, culture and contributions to the world," Sunak was quoted as saying.
"We see today in Britain these very same values and culture through the positive contributions the British Indian community makes to our country," he said.
"I was honoured to have received the blessings of His Holiness Mahant Swami Maharaj conveyed to me this morning, and I understand that His Holiness is inaugurating another beautiful Swaminarayan Akshardham temple in Robbinsville, USA very soon. I would like to send my very best wishes to His Holiness and all the devotees of BAPS ahead of the opening," Sunak said.
Brahmavihari Swami, the senior swami of the sanstha, said it was an honour to welcome the British prime minister to Swaminarayan Akshardham and share Mahant Swami Maharaj&rsquo;s message of peace, unity and public service.
The UK&rsquo;s relationship with India is built on a bond of friendship and fostered by cultural exchanges as well as a vibrant Indian diaspora in the UK, he said.
The British prime minister spent almost one hour at the temple as he performed 'darshan and puja' there.
In an interview to PTI ahead of his India visit, Sunak had said, "I am hugely proud of my Indian roots and my connections to India. As you know, my wife is Indian and being a proud Hindu means I will always have a connection to India and the people of India." The 43-year-old leader of the Conservative Party was first elected as an MP in 2015. He was made finance minister or chancellor of exchequer in February 2020 by then Prime Minister Boris Johnson. In October last year, he became the first Indian-origin British prime minister, scripting history.
His wife Akshata Murty is the daughter of India's billionaire tech czar Narayana Murthy and philanthropist and educator Sudha Murty.&nbsp;

The British Prime Minister Rishi arrived on Friday for the G20 Leaders' Summit beginning on Saturday and said he would work with world leaders to address some of the challenges that impact every one of us.
Accompanied by his wife Akshata Murthy, Sunak was welcomed at the airport by Union Minister Ashwini Choubey, British High Commissioner to India Alex Ellis and senior diplomats.
"I've landed in Delhi ahead of the G20 summit. I am meeting world leaders to address some of the challenges that impact every one of us. Only together can we get the job done," Sunak said in a post on X.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi welcomed Sunak and said he was looking forward to a fruitful summit.
"Welcome Rishi Sunak! Looking forward to a fruitful Summit where we can work together for a better planet," Modi said on X.
Sunak is scheduled to hold a bilateral meeting with Modi during his three-day visit.
In an interview to PTI earlier this week, Sunak, the first Indian-origin prime minister of Britain, said the relationship between the UK and India will define the future of the two countries, even more than it is defining the present.&nbsp;
