Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy commended on Friday the International Criminal Court for issuing a warrant for Russian President Vladimir Putin's arrest, calling it a "historic decision".
The ICC said Friday that it has issued an arrest warrant for Putin for war crimes, accusing him of personal responsibility for the abductions of children from Ukraine.
"This is a historic decision that will lead to historic responsibility. The head of a terrorist state and another Russian official have officially become suspects in a war crime. In the deportation of Ukrainian children - the illegal transfer of thousands of our children to the territory of a terrorist state. In the criminal proceedings being investigated by our law enforcement officers, more than 16 thousand cases of forced deportation of Ukrainian children by the occupier have already been recorded. But the real, full number of deportees may be much higher."
"It would be impossible to carry out such a criminal operation without the order of the top leader of the terrorist state," said Zelenskyy in his nightly video-address.

Its exactly one year since Russia invaded Ukraine. Russian President Putin called it a 'special military operation'. One year on, the war continues and there is no end in sight. As per reports atleast 150,000 people on each side have died. The ecnomic ramifications have also been immense. Ukraine itself has seen economic output contract about over 30%. Not just Ukraine, over the past year, the war has caused multiple shocks to the global economy. As per estimates, the war could cost the global economy about $2.8 trillion in terms of lost output. Russia and Ukraine together constitue a large part of the world's energy and food supply. The war&nbsp; disrupted wheat, barley and cooking oil supplies from Ukraine and Russia, to Africa, the Middle East and parts of Asia.
Infact both countries account for 25% of the world's wheat imports. In fact, Ukraine, known as "breadbasket of the world", was unable to continue with its supplies, sending food prices soaring across the world.&nbsp;
The spikes in energy and food prices led to inflation spiking to a multi-decade high of 9% in the U.S. and over 10% in Europe. The Food and Agriculture Organization says its food price index reached a record high in 2022, up by 14.3% from 2021.
Supply chain disruptions, which were still prevalent from the pandemic, once again saw a set back. As a result, there was a spike in both food and energy prices.&nbsp;
However, now, supply chains have returned to pre-war levels. As per Moneycontrol, the Baltic Dry Index was as high as 5,650 in early October 2021 before it fell to under 1,300 by the end of January 2022. However, the Russia-Ukraine war pushed the index over 3,000 by May 2022. It has since collapsed to under 1,000. This index measures the average price of shipping dry bulk across several routes and is considered a lead indicator of economic activity.
The World Bank has warned that the global economy could slip into recession in 2023.

The announcement comes following a request for a ceasefire during the religious holiday from Russia's 76-year-old Orthodox leader Patriarch Kirill.
"I instruct the defence minister of the Russian Federation to introduce from 12:00 (0900 GMT) on January 6, 2023 until 24:00 (2100 GMT) on January 7, 2023 a ceasefire along the entire line of contact between the sides in Ukraine," the Kremlin said in a statement.
"Given the fact that a large number of citizens professing Orthodoxy live in the areas of combat, we call on the Ukrainian side to declare a ceasefire and give them the opportunity to attend church services on Christmas Eve, as well as on the Day of the Nativity of Christ," the statement added.
In a call with the Russian leader earlier Thursday, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan pressed Putin to declare a "unilateral" ceasefire in Ukraine.

He said that the Russians had posted a video of the forest, saying they had buried 17 Ukrainian soldiers.
"On the video we saw more. We hadn't counted yet. But I think there are more or less 25 bodies," said Kotenko.
Kotenko also said that hundreds of Izum residents who died during the Russian occupation were buried in this place with numbers on the crosses instead of names.
"These crosses are civilians who died. They were buried here," he said.
Izium residents confirmed that bodies of people who died during the Russian occupation were buried in the forest.
Kotenko said the bodies would be exhumed and their DNA examined.

Konashenkov added 53 "nationalists and foreign mercenaries" were also killed in the strike, while a separate Russian attack killed "up to 200" Ukrainian servicemen and destroyed seven armored vehicles.
The spokesman also said a U.S.-supplied Harpoon anti-ship missile system had been knocked out in the Odesa region.
Moscow's claims could not be independently verified.

It is going to be a long-term proposition for India -- which has a decades-old relationship with Moscow -- to reorient its foreign policy away from Russia, the US has said, insisting that re-aligning one's approach is not like flipping a light switch.

"But what I can do is point out what we have heard from India. We have seen countries around the world speak clearly, including with their votes in the UN General Assembly against Russia's aggression in Ukraine," Price told reporters here.
"But we also recognise, as I was saying just a moment ago, that this is not flipping a light switch,” he said on Wednesday.
“This is something that, especially for countries that have historical relationships with Russia. Relationships that, as is the case with India, extend back decades, it is going to be a long-term proposition to re-orient foreign policy away from Russia,” he said in response to a question.
The US and European nations have imposed heavy sanctions on Russia since Moscow sent troops into Ukraine on February 24.
India has raised oil imports from Russia after the Ukraine war despite criticism from the West and continues to engage with Moscow for business.
In May, Russia overtook Saudi Arabia to become India's second-biggest supplier of oil behind Iraq as refiners snapped up Russian crude available at a deep discount following the war in Ukraine.
Indian refiners bought about 25 million barrels of Russian oil in May.
External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar on Tuesday said New Delhi had not been defensive about its stand on buying Russian oil but made the US and others realise that the government had the "moral duty" to ensure that the people got the "best deal".
In October 2018, India signed a USD 5 billion deal with Russia to buy five units of the S-400 air defence missile systems, despite a warning from the then-Trump administration that going ahead with the contract may invite US sanctions.
The S-400 is known as Russia's most advanced long-range surface-to-air missile defence system. The US has already imposed sanctions on Turkey under the Countering America's Adversaries Through Sanctions Act (CAATSA) for the purchase of a batch of S-400 missile defence systems from Russia.
The US, Price said, has worked very closely with India bilaterally and through the Quad grouping “to signal, and the Indians have done so very clearly what should be the inviolable principle of state sovereignty”.
Price also responded to a series of questions on a multilateral joint military exercise that involves Russia and China and several other countries, including India, saying countries routinely make their own sovereign decisions.
"It is absolutely their right to do so regarding what, if any, military exercises to take part in. I'll also note that most of the participating countries also routinely participate in a wide array of military exercises and exchanges with the United States as well," he said.
The US does not read anything into their engagements in this activity, Price said.
"Now, the broader point is that we have seen a burgeoning relationship, including in the security realm between the PRC (People's Republic of China) and Russia. We've seen a burgeoning relationship between Russia and Iran for example, and we have made public elements of that,” he said.
"That is of concern because of the vision that countries like China and Russia have for the international order," Price said.
It is a vision that is starkly at odds with the liberal vision that the US and its allies and partners have for the international system, he said.
"It is starkly at odds with the underpinnings of the international system that has been in place for some eight decades following the end of the second World War, a system that has undergirded unprecedented levels of stability, security, prosperity across the world that includes including Europe, Indo-Pacific and everywhere in between," he noted.
"It is the difference between a profoundly liberal order and a profoundly illiberal order in which all of the principles that the United States, that our allies, that our partners, that the United Nations, and that, by the way, countries like Russia and China have previously stood for and in some cases still profess to stand for,” Price said.
It is a vision that is profoundly opposed to many of those principles, he added.
"…We've been very clear in our engagements with the PRC regarding the consequences of doing so. We have yet to see any change in the PRC's behaviour indicating that they are moving in that direction,” Price said.

&ldquo;I certainly understand where the Ukrainians are coming from, and we're gonna fight hard to give them everything they need.&rdquo; The HIMARS and anti-ship systems are the kinds of longer range capabilities that over time can make a difference in the fight, Milley said. The aid is the largest single tranche of weapons and equipment since the war began. The US remains committed, Biden said in a statement, &ldquo;to supporting the Ukrainian people whose lives have been ripped apart by this war.&rdquo; The aid comes as Austin convened a meeting in Brussels of more than 45 nations to discuss support for Ukraine. Reports say that the man was dismissed by Zelenskyy for 'not working to defend the city from the first days of the full-scale war, but thinking only of himself', while others were engaged in 'effective' selfless service. 
The incident took place when Zelenskyy made his first trip to the war-torn east of the country since Moscow's invasion.

In one of the&nbsp;most extraordinary war stories, Ukrainian tennis player, Sergiy Stakhovsky, took up the arms to defend his country from the Russian invasion.
Stakhovsky, who was knocked out in the qualifying stage of the Australian Open 2022, couldn't stop himself from coming to support his country. When he got to know about the Russian invasion of Ukraine he had three days of sleepless nights. Then he decided to leave his family behind in Budapest for safety and left the home without telling them what his next plan would be.
