As polling for the sixth phase of the Lok Sabha elections is underway, ministers and leaders from across the parties are reaching polling booths to cast their votes.
Union Minister for External Affairs S. Jaishankar too, reached early at polling station in Delhi but was astonished to know his name did not feature in the voters' list, Lokmatt Times reported.
The polling station went into a tizzy and soon, the minister was informed about his name being on a different list. The report further said he was then directed to the designated polling station where he cast his vote.&nbsp;
The minister then cast his vote and was handed a certificate for being the first male voter at the polling booth.
In a post on X, Jaishankar urged voters to cast their vote. He wrote, " Cast my vote in New Delhi this morning. Urge all voting today to turnout in record numbers and vote in this sixth phase of the elections."

Indian foreign minister Jaishankar dialed his Iranian and Israeli counterparts amidst ongoing tensions, and called for immediate de-escalation of the situation.&nbsp;

Iran said it has agreed to give India access to 17 of its citizens who are on board the seized Israel-linked ship which was seized by the Iranian military near the Strait of Hormuz on April 13.
Iran's Foreign Minister Amir Abdollahian told Jaishankar during a phone conversation on April 14 that they are following up on the details related to the detained ship and soon the possibility of representatives of the Indian government meeting with the crew of the detained ship ship 'MSC Aries' will be provided.
"The Indian Foreign Minister expressed concern about the situation of 17 Indian crew members on a detained ship by Iran and requested assistance from the Islamic Republic in this regard," Iran's foreign ministry said in a statement.
"Dr. Amir Abdollahian mentioned that they are following up on the details related to the detained ship and soon the possibility of representatives of the Indian government meeting with the crew of the mentioned ship will be provided."
The assurance came hours after Indian foreign minister Jaishankar spoke to his Iranian counterpart seeking assistance from Iran on the early release of 17 Indians onboard a seized Portuguese-flagged cargo vessel.
Jaishankar also talked to his Israeli counterpart amidst the ongoing tensions and called for avoiding escalation, exercising restraint, and returning to the path of diplomacy.&nbsp;
In its reaction, India called for immediate de-escalation of the situation and said that its embassies in the region are in close touch with the Indian community in the region.
"We are seriously concerned at the escalation of hostilities between Israel and Iran which threatens the peace and security in the region," the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) said.
"We call for immediate de-escalation, exercise of restraint, stepping back from violence and return to the path of diplomacy," it said.
The MEA said India is closely monitoring the evolving situation in West Asia.
"We are closely monitoring the evolving situation. Our Embassies in the region are in close touch with the Indian community," it said in a statement.
"It is vital that security and stability are maintained in the region," it added.
Iran's unprecedented attacks drew international condemnation and anguish with many global leaders calling for restraint by both Iran and Israel.
In his phone conversation with Iranian counterpart Hossein Amir-Abdollahian, Jaishankar also called for the release of 17 Indians onboard a Portuguese-flagged cargo vessel MSC Aries.
On Saturday, the Iranian military seized a cargo ship with Israeli links near the Strait of Hormuz. The ship has 17 Indian crew members.
"Spoke to Iranian FM @Amirabdolahian this evening. Took up the release of 17 Indian crew members of MSC Aries," Jaishankar posted on 'X' "Discussed the current situation in the region. Stressed the importance of avoiding escalation, exercising restraint and returning to diplomacy. Agreed to remain in touch," he said.
In his talks with Israeli foreign minister Israel Katz, Jaishankar shared India's concerns over the situation arising out of the Iran-Israel hostilities.
"Shared our concern at the developments yesterday. Discussed the larger regional situation. Agreed to stay in touch," the external affairs minister said.
With escalation of tensions in West Asia, India on Friday asked its citizens not to travel to Iran and Israel.

External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar on Monday asserted that India's national security interests are involved in its investigation into the alleged involvement of a government official in the assassination plot aimed at Khalistani extremist Gurpatwant Singh Pannun.
"It is something we are investigating as we believe our own national security interests are involved in that investigation," he told reporters, replying to a question about US Ambassador to India Eric Garcetti's statement that the involvement of a government official in an assassination bid on the citizen of another country is an "unacceptable red line".
Jaishankar said the US ambassador will say what he feels is the thinking or position of his government.
"The position of my government is that in this particular case, there has been certain information provided to us which we are investigating," he said, adding that India's own security interest is involved in this.
"So, as and when we have something to say on the investigation we would be very glad to speak about it. At this point, beyond the fact that there is an investigation going on, we have nothing more to say," the external affairs minister said.
To a question about Indians getting caught up in the Ukraine conflict after being taken to Russia on job promises, he said India has taken up the matter "very very strongly" with the Russian government.
"We are trying to get all these people back to India safely," he said.
Last month, MEA spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal said that several Indians had been "duped" to work with the Russian Army and New Delhi had strongly taken up the matter with Moscow for their early release. He had appealed to Indian nationals to not get "swayed" by offers made by agents for support jobs with the Russian Army, saying it is fraught with danger and risk to life.

Addressing the Nigerian Institute Of International Affairs (NIIA) in Lagos, Jaishankar added that restoring the natural diversity is a collective objective in a post colonial world.

External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar on Monday said Global South is about a "mindset, a solidarity and a self-reliance" and without the advancement of the Global South, the world is not going to see planetary progress.
Addressing the Nigerian Institute Of International Affairs (NIIA) here on India and the Global South, he said the global agenda today is on promoting rebalancing and multipolarity, thereby restoring the world to its natural diversity.
The global conversation today is focussing "on the advancement of the Global South because without the advancement of the Global South, we are not going to see planetary progress", Jaishankar said.
However, this global conversation, the minister said, by its very nature is constantly distracted.
Some crisis happens, some big event happens, some other agenda comes in place. And the global conversation then boggles, it goes off track. People lose that sense of focus about what are the priorities, he said.
"So one of the big achievements of our (India's) G20 presidency was that, after some experience with a very polarised divided world, which was very much, I would say, focused on one particular region...we were able to bring back the attention of the Global South," the minister said.
Global South is about "a mindset, a solidarity and a self-reliance", he said.
Jaishankar said, "Global South, most of all, is a mind set. Those who have it, will have it. Those who don't have it, will never get it. It is a mind set, which has some core principles.
"These are principles from our habits, from our political culture, from the way we have practised international relations...For example, non-intervention. For example, non-interference or being non-judgmental, or non-alliance." Global South, he said, is also about solidarity.
"Global South means having a heart. Global South means willing to share," Jaishankar said.
Elaborating, he said when India was still vaccinating people, it started supplying vaccines to 100 other countries in the world.
"And I compare it to Global North, where there were countries sitting on vaccines eight times the number of the population, and they won't give it to a small island next to them. That is the difference between Global South and Global North," Jaishankar said.
The transformation over the last decade, the minister said, has "enabled India to be an example, a partner and a contributor".
The minister also said the simple principle that must guide global governance, conversations and debates, is a conviction that no one should be left behind.
"And when we speak about no one being left behind. I think the welfare of Africa is particularly important. In fact, I will say, the rise of Africa is even more crucial because in a changing global order, we have seen growth in continents, once they got decolonised, that growth over a period of time, created a rebalancing -- of political rebalancing and economic rebalancing.
"And that rebalancing today is creating a world of a multipolar nature, where middle powers and perhaps others to regional organisations would have a fairer and more equitable say in how the world is strong," Jaishankar said.
So the global agenda, the minister said, in many ways, today is about restoring the world to its natural diversity. Because the world was diverse, the world is diverse. It was distorted by the period of Western domination. "And in a post colonial world today, restoring that natural diversity is actually our collective objective," he said.
Jaishankar said contemporary challenges emanate from old forms of domination as well as new economic concentration.
Today, many of those who dominated the world for the last 200 to 300 years, continue to do so with new instruments, with new regimes, with different techniques, he said.
Jaishankar also said the old "world order continues obstinately because those who are in the driving seat, don't want to create more seats for other people...".
Jaishankar arrived in Nigeria in the concluding leg of his two-nation tour to Uganda and Nigeria.
He arrived in the Nigerian capital Abuja on Sunday after attending the Non-Aligned Movement (NAM) Summit in Uganda.

External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar responded to a question asked at the Council of Foreign Relations in the United States on Canada's allegations against India based on intelligence from the Five Eyes.&nbsp;
Jaishankar told the journalist he was not the right person to ask the question.
"I am not part of the Five Eyes. I am not certainly part of the FBI. So you are asking the wrong person," Jaishankar said.
The Five Eyes is an intelligence alliance among five countries: Australia, Canada, New Zealand, the United Kingdom and the United States.&nbsp;

External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar has said that there is a need to get over the syndrome that the West is the bad guy.

External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar on Sunday said the West was not the "bad guy" as it was not flooding Asian and African markets with goods on a massive scale and that there was a need to get over the "syndrome" of seeing it in a negative way.
Jaishanker, in an interview to the Malayalam news channel Asianet, also made it clear that he was not batting for the West. He was in Thiruvananthapuram as part of the launch of the PM Vishwakarma scheme.
"It is not the West which is flooding Asia and Africa with goods on a massive scale. I think we need to get over the syndrome of the past that the West is the bad guy and on the other side are the developing countries. The world is more complicated, the problems are much more complicated than that," the minister said.
Former Indian diplomat T P Sreenivasan interviewed the minister for the channel.
On being asked whether Chinese President Xi Jinping did not attend the G20 summit in New Delhi because it did not want India to be seen as leader of the Global South, Jaishankar said the reasons were up for speculation.
He said the issue today was the building up of a strong sense, over the last 15-20 years, over the inequities of globalisation where countries saw their products, manufacturing and employment come under stress due to their markets being flooded by cheap goods -- an indirect reference to the Chinese trade and economic policies.
The minister said this underlying resentment and pain of those countries regarding the global economy was building up for the last 15-20 years and the COVID-19 pandemic and the Ukraine conflict resulted in prices of energy and food items going up.
So there was a sense of anger building up in countries about them being used as an extractive resource to fuel the economy of another nation and added that the West was not to be blamed for that.
He made it clear that he was not batting for the West and said that in today's globalisation there was a concentration of manufacturing that was being leveraged and subsidised and was affecting economies of various nations.
However, India's manufacturing, agriculture, scientific achievement like the Chandrayaan-3 mission, ability to vaccinate, etc all of that has created a sense among the Global South, which includes the African Union, "that one of us has the ability to stand, grow and progress".
"So they identify with us in a way that they do not with other people," Jaishankar said.
Responding to queries, he also spoke about the achievements of the G20 Summit under the Indian presidency and the threat posed by the political space given by Canada to the Khalistan group.
Jaishankar said that some of the major achievements of the G20 Summit under the Indian presidency was that India was able to get the influential group of nations back on the track of growth and development and also focus on the Global South initiative.
In addition to that, the country was also able to do diplomacy in a different way and through the summit created a greater interest in the nation about the Baltic, he said.
Jaishankar said India was a different country now with a different level of confidence and a different leadership and the manner in which G20 was conducted has only benefited the nation.
He said that the summit showed that the agenda "does not have to be decided by the West or by the P5 or by a narrow one or two countries" and that India too can shape it.
"By doing the Voice of the Global South (summit) and bringing 125 nations together, we straightaway shaped the agenda," he said.
At the same time, he said, the Global South was not a new world order or a definition and India was not claiming to be its leader.
"My most truthful answer is that the Global South is not a definition, but a feeling. It is a feeling of solidarity, a willingness to put yourself out," he said, adding that "those who are part of it know it and those who are not also know it".
World leaders at the two-day G20 Summit in New Delhi recently had hailed Prime Minister Narendra Modi for his "decisive leadership" and for championing the voice of the Global South.
He also welcomed the proposed economic corridor with India at one end and Europe at the other and which passes through the Middle East making it easier for people from here to go there for job opportunities.
While speaking about people migrating abroad for jobs, he touched upon the issue of the Khalistan group's activities in Canada and its effect on India's relations with that country.
He said the problem arises when, for whatever reason, such countries give space in their politics for activities of such groups.
The minister said there were compulsions in politics, "but everybody, especially in a democracy, must temper that with a larger sense of responsibility to the world as well as a sense of responsibility to their own image and their own well being".
"Forget us for the moment. You know the kind of force involved in all of this. They are not good for the country where all of this will happen. Today it is Canada, it could be something else tomorrow. We are focusing on generating that appreciation," he said.
On how India managed to not get Russia blamed for the Ukraine conflict in the G20 declaration, Jaishankar said, "Everybody compromised." "There was a lot of give and take," he added.
He said what happened in the Bali Summit of G20, where Russia was blamed, could not be repeated in India and at the same time the clock could not be stopped there.
"This is New Delhi. So the New Delhi outcome had to be forged," he said.
He also said that in the G20 India was able to focus on the Global South in terms of phrases, agenda, outcome and the African Union's membership "for which Prime Minister Narendra Modi really stuck his neck out".
"This is a different country, with a different level of confidence and a different leadership," he concluded.

A day after rumours started swirling that India may be renamed Bharat in the upcoming special session of Parliament, Foreign Minister S Jaishankar clarified his stand.
Many Opposition parties, who have formed an alliance called INDIA, have objected to 'Bharat' being added to the designation of the President and Prime Minister in formal communication.
In an interview to news agency ANI ahead of the G20 summit, Jaishankar said, "India that is Bharat - it is there in the Constitution. Please, I would invite everybody to read it."
"When you say Bharat, in a sense, a meaning and an understanding and a connotation that comes with it. And that is reflected in our Constitution as well," he added.
Senior BJP leaders and ministers also cheered the move by Rashtrapati Bhavan with Union minister Rajeev Chandrasekhar asking what is the problem with using 'President of Bharat' as our country is also Bharat.
The move also further fuelled the speculation that the issue of changing the name of the country could come up during the five-day special session of Parliament beginning September 18.
As no specific agenda has been announced yet for the Parliament session, speculations regarding its agenda ranging from simultaneous polls to women's reservation bill are doing the rounds.

Several opposition leaders shared Article 1 of the Constitution which states that "India, that is Bharat, shall be a Union of States" and also the provision that refers to the country's president as "President of India".

Speaking in Delhi on May 25, 2023, the minister said, "Papua New Guinea PM, while speaking to our envoy, said that he doesn't consider PM Modi just a PM, just another guest, but considers PM Modi a 'guru', a 'vishwaguru'."
"Australian PM called PM Modi 'The Boss'. It wasn't part of his speech. He later told me that this was his inner emotion," he revealed.
"The way the world is seeing India right now is because of PM Modi's leadership. I have been practising diplomacy for the last 45 years, but I never saw such a scene," Jaishankar added.

Jaishankar tweeted that he held a detailed discussion his Chinese counterpart on the bilateral relationship between the countries. He added that the focus of the two countries remains on resolving outstanding issues and ensuring peace and tranquillity in the border areas.&nbsp;
The talks took place in a beach resort in Benaulim on the sidelines of a meeting of the Council of Foreign Ministers of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO).
The Jaishankar-Gang meeting was their second one in the last two months. The Chinese foreign minister visited India in March to attend a meeting of the G20 foreign ministers.
On the sidelines of the meeting, Jaishankar held talks with Qin during which he conveyed to his Chinese counterpart that the state of India-China relations is "abnormal" because of the lingering border row in eastern Ladakh.

Amid the BJP's allegation that he insulted the country abroad by questioning the state of democracy Congress leader Rahul Gandhi has spoken at length about his speech in London saying that he did not ask any other country to intervene in the internal matters of India.
According NDTV, Gandhi spoke at a parliamentary panel meet on Saturday which was chaired by External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar.
Gandhi has also reportedly said that he only raised questions about India's democracy, and could not be labelled 'anti-national' for that, NDTV said quoting sources.

During conversation in&nbsp; RaisinaDialogue2023, Jaishankar highlighted the growing significance of foreign policies among the younger generation and their impact on election campaigns.&nbsp;

External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar on Friday likened Prime Minister Narendra Modi to a cricket team captain and said he gave his bowlers a certain amount of freedom while expecting them to take wickets.
Jaishankar said Modi's knack of taking tough decisions was also on display when India decided to announce the lockdown after the outbreak of Covid, step up production of vaccines, roll out an inoculation programme and help countries in need of vaccines.
"With Captain Modi, there is a lot of net practice. The net practice starts at 6 o'clock in the morning and goes on till fairly late," Jaishankar said during an interactive session at the Raisina Dialogue with former British Prime Minister Tony Blair and former England cricketer Kevin Pieterson.
The external affairs minister said Captain Modi also gave a certain latitude to his colleagues and trusted them to deal with a particular situation. "If you have a particular bowler you have trust in or you have seen perform, you would give them the latitude, you throw the ball to them at the right moment. You trust them to deal with that particular situation," he said.
"In that sense, Captain Modi does give his bowlers a certain amount of freedom. He expects you to take that wicket, if he gives you the chance to do it," Jaishankar said.
He also recalled watching the prime minister take tough decisions when the Covid pandemic broke out three years back.
"All of us, if we look back for the past three years, the decision to lockdown was a very very tough decision. But, it had to be taken at that point of time. If we now look back, what would have happened if we had not taken that decision," Jaishankar said.
The minister recalled how he had worked closely with Blair to ensure supply of raw materials for production of AstraZeneca/Covishield vaccines.
Jaishankar said another tough call was to send vaccines to nearly 100 countries when there was a lot of questioning within the country.
"It was a tough call. Whether it is sports or any competitive situation it is the willingness to take the difficult call, stand by those calls, give the people the confidence that you will stand by them when they take the risks. This is all about competition and leadership," the minister said.

At the recently concluded Munich Security Conference, German Chancellor Olaf Scholz said that Jaishankar's quote has been included in the 2023 report since "he has a point". Scholz said that it "wouldn't be Europe's problems alone if the law of the strong were to assert itself in international relations".
