Veteran actor Saira Banu welcomed the New Year with Aamir Khan, his mother Zeenat Hussain and his ex-wife Kiran Rao.
She took to Instagram to share a bunch of pictures and mentioned that she ushered in 2024 in warm company with heartfelt conversations and a delightful stroll down memory lane with Dilip Sahib.
Saira Banu reflected on the unchanging presence of Aamir in their lives and acknowledged the mutual admiration between him and Dilip Kumar. She also highlighted Aamir's support during the challenging times, recalling moments during the creation of Dilip Kumar's autobiography.
She wrote, &ldquo;With each turn of the calendar, life continues to unfold, expand, and evolve. As years morph and time advances, a fresh perspective breathes new life into our existence. Amidst this perpetual change, there remains a constant: the presence of those who have shared our life&rsquo;s journey with us. For Sahib and me, Aamir has been this unchangeable presence.&rdquo;
Saira added, &ldquo;To this day, Aamir still holds a deep admiration for Dilip Sahib and everything he brought to Indian Cinema. It&rsquo;s mutual, really. Sahib has always had a genuine appreciation for Aamir&rsquo;s acting brilliance and how he flawlessly brings characters to life on screen. Personally, I&rsquo;ve always been moved by Aamir&rsquo;s artistry &ndash; not just in his films, but also in the way he&rsquo;s embraced the role of a family member in Sahib&rsquo;s and my life. Aamir has been with me during some really tough times.&rdquo;
&ldquo;I remember when I was putting together Dilip Sahib&rsquo;s autobiography, The Substance And The Shadow, Aamir stepped up in every way imaginable, offering support and lending a helping hand. It&rsquo;s moments like these that make you truly appreciate the kind of person he is, going beyond just the glitz and glamour of the film industry,&rdquo; she continued.

Saira&rsquo;s Instagram post&nbsp; Saira took to Instagram and shared an incident when Vinod Khanna once 'disappeared somewhere' while rehearsing for a film, when Dilip Kumar visited their studio. Saira wrote, "Vinod loved Sahib incredibly. He was a very thoughtful man. Once, he and I were shooting at Natraj Studios for Guru Dutt's film AAROP directed by Atmaramji." &nbsp;&nbsp;
She added that on the same day Dilip Kumar was headed to airport and she had requested him to stop by the Studio. Saira wrote that she was rehearsing with Johnny Walker, and Vinod. But when Dilip kumar arrived, Vinod &lsquo;disappeared somewhere.&rsquo;&nbsp;
Vinod deeply admired Dilip Kumar Saira also recalled how Vinod took a long time to return back to the sets and when he returned, Dilip had already left. When Saira asked Vinod what took him so long, he replied, 'Oh! Boy! Do you think I can act and perform while Dilipji, 'The Master Of Acting' is watching? I would be shaking with nervousness! So I absconded!'"&nbsp;
Vinod was a chivalrous man&nbsp; Saira also shared how the legendary actor would make sure that all female actors working with him reached home safely. Calling him a chivalrous man, she also recounted an incident where he waited for her car to arrive and then left the sets. &nbsp;
Vinod became a disciple of Osho&nbsp; The veteran actor also shared that when Vinod was at the peak of his career, he became a disciple of Osho and wanted to take a break from films to follow his Guru. Saira shared that she told him, "You are one of the brightest stars of today and everyone knows you will scale tremendous heights in your career. You are too promising. Please don&rsquo;t go. Why are you intending to take this hiatus?"&nbsp;
Saira concluded the post, "I remember it was a joy to see him and his wife Geetanjali while we shot outdoors at Lonavala, all of us lived together and had fun times. Later on, when he married Kavita, his second wife, they always visited us on occasions, particularly on our Silver Wedding Anniversary and mingled so wonderfully as one of our own family. She remembered that she first met SRK at a function where he seemed shy and reticent to come forward and he looked so much like Dilip Kumar. She said that 'Shah Rukh is a remarkable actor and an incredibly sweet, well-mannered and considerate individual.' She also recalled that SRK was a beacon of solace as he was the first to arrive after Dilip Sahab's death. Saira posted a video featuring Dilip, Shah Rukh and Ravi Kishan. In the clip, Dilip signed a huge poster of Mughal-e-Azam. Shah Rukh hugged Dilip and shared a brief conversation as Ravi Kishan looked on and smiled. In a photo, Shah Rukh sat between Dilip and Saira on a couch. While he held Dilip's hand, Shah Rukh looked at Saira and smiled as she talked. Veteran actor Saira Banu took a trip down memory lane on her 79th birthday. Shared old photos with Dilip Kumar on Instagram, she recalled how her late husband travelled from Chennai to Mumbai on her 22nd birthday.
She shared that he would then travel 'every other night' to have dinner with her. Saira added that on one such occasion, he proposed to her for marriage.
Saira Banu wrote, &lsquo;As far as I can remember, birthdays have been so &ldquo;Special&rdquo; for me --- my mother Pari Chehra Naseem Banuji went to the ends of the world to always give me the best fun time with my friends whether here in Mumbai or in London School --- not to forget once a towering layered cake that would have put the Qutub Minar to shame!&rsquo;
She continued, &lsquo;We were a very close knit small family that lived doting on each other --- my grandma, my grand-aunt, my mother and my darling brother Sultan---Then Hey Presto! What good luck! No sooner than I finished my London School and came back home to Bombay I had the sheer luck of getting to do JUNGLEE the super hit Eastman Colour Film that became the rage of the time. Until now Black and White films were the order of the day and held the roost.&rsquo;
Saira added, &lsquo;Soon life became a blast of light and joy and occasions such as birthdays blossomed into a flood of appreciation, flowers, messages from friends and fans making the whole house into a Garden of Eden. On 23rd August, 1966 such a quality evening, the House Warming of our new residence at 34-B Pali Hill was on, the house was made intentionally and absolutely Dilip Sahib&rsquo;s &lsquo;Dar Kay Saamney&rsquo; (Ghar Kay Saamney). He was shooting in Madras and on my mother&rsquo;s invitation flew into town to attend my birthday.&rsquo;
Saira said, &lsquo;Life became besieged with good luck, one miracle after another and can you imagine that the 'Emperor Of Acting' for whom the world was his stage. Mr Dilip Kumar who knew me since I was a little girl and consequently refused to work with me but soon after meeting me at this House Warming Party, exclaimed, 'You have grown up into a beautiful girl. The next couple of days he travelled on whirlwind flights from Madras to Bombay every other night and had dinner with me.&rsquo;
Concluding her post, Saira Banu wrote, &lsquo;On one of these magical evenings he popped the question, 'Will you marry Me?' Here came the realization of a dream that I had nurtured ever since I was in my teens. We were happily married and I started my life from an admiring fan to a devoted wife. I got to see the different aspects and qualities of this great human being. He was unlike any person that I had ever met ---- a man who oozed a royal halo of understated elegance&rsquo;.

Veteran actor Saira Banu has shared another anecdote from Dilip Kumar's life.
She shared how Ashok Kumar and Dilip Kumar got their first break under Devika Rani. She also shared the biggest acting lesson Ashok gave Dilip Kumar.
Sharing a picture of Dilip Kumar and Ashok Kumar, the veteran actor wrote, 'Devika Raniji, a picture of elegance, welcomed them and took them personally to the floor where a shooting was going on. She led him to a man who was well-dressed and looked distinguished. His dark hair was combed back and he smiled through his eyes at Sahib. He held his hand in a warm handshake that marked the beginning of a friendship that was to last a lifetime. He was Ashok Kumar, the superstar who soon became &ldquo;Bhaiyya&rdquo; to Sahib.'
Ashok Kumar adviced Dilip Kumar to enact the scene given to him the way he would behave in a real-life situation. He said if Dilip Kumar would act it out, it would look silly.
Saira Banu also revealed that there were times when Ashok Kumar jokingly told Dilip Kumar that he often visited his house to flirt with his wife.
'Ashok Bhaiyya lived close to the Studios those days and Raj and Dilip Sahib were always welcomed in Bhaiyya&rsquo;s home to savour hot Bhajiyas made by his wife Shoba Bhabhi. Raj Kapoor would often join Sahib and hug him excitedly saying that he's happy to know that he had joined the acting profession. Bhaiyya sometimes arrived while they were having Bhajiyas and demanded that they should play badminton with him. He would chide them jokingly, You come here and flirt with my wife, eat nice Bhajiyas and you don&rsquo;t want to accompany me in playing badminton. Later, when they worked together, on Ashok Bhaiyya&rsquo;s order there would be a &ldquo;Dawaat&rdquo; at lunchtime with delicious food like Biryani and homemade icecream,' she wrote.
Concluding her post, Saira Banu wrote, 'Many years later when Bhaiyya was at home out of health problems, Sahib used to visit him frequently at his Chembur house where he would be resting in bed very much his ebullient self but naturally weaker, and Sahib took it upon himself to regale him with Urdu couplets and wicked jokes. He would respond marvellously and cheer up. Sahib and I visited him regularly while Bhaiyya&rsquo;s man Khurshid followed us out and told us that &lsquo;Dada Moni&rsquo; really perks up and livens up with your coming. This was a great camaraderie in bad times.'

Sagina works as a Welfare Officer, bringing about justice.&rsquo;
She added, &lsquo;I was overjoyed when Sahib and respected Tapan Sinha collaborated... they were such good friends and like-minded that they brought ease and cordiality while filming Sagina in the most peaceful atmosphere at Gayabari, where we worked in the outdoors. The first item Sahib got up in the garden was a badminton court for the entire shooting crew to play together in the evenings and then cosily huddle in the house to sing and joke together turn by turn.&rsquo;

The film festival has been organized by the Film Heritage Foundation. In the two days, Dilip Kumar&rsquo;s critically acclaimed movies, including Aan (1952), Devdas (1955), Ram Aur Shyam (1967), and Shakti (1982), will be screened in over 30 cinema halls and 20 cities across the country.&nbsp;

For veteran actor Saira Banu, the 99th birthday of the legendary star and her late husband Dilip Kumar will be a day of quietly remembering the "lively and vibrant&rdquo; man she was married to for 55 years.
Kumar, who would have turned 99 on Saturday, passed away on July 7 due to prolonged illness.
Banu said though it is a "terrible vacuum" to not have him around physically, she still believes that he is walking side by side with her.
"I will do the prayers, remember him and I want the day to be very quiet. I want to visit the Juhu garden (Juhu Qabrastan) where he is (buried)," Banu told PTI.
Remembering the past birthdays of Kumar, one of Hindi cinema's biggest icons known for films like "Mughal-e-Azam", "Devdas", "Naya Daur", and "Ram Aur Shyam", Banu said the house used to be filled with flowers and colourful bouquets as wishes came pouring from his fans in India and around the globe.
"The house would be full of flowers, there were times when bouquets would be on all the floors, steps and everywhere in the house and we would not have enough room for it. It used to be that wonderful. He was so loved by people. He still is,&rdquo; she said.
Banu described Kumar as a very lively person and a foodie who had a penchant for simple clothes and loved sports.
The 77-year-old veteran said Kumar loved his simple white cotton clothes with white footwear for everyday wear, though he had many beautiful suits and shirts.
"He was very much into good clothing. And good food and he was a marvelous cook too. Whenever he would want to, he would try (to make) new things like soup and other items,&rdquo; she said.
Banu said the late star shared a great bond with children and had his own tricks to entertain them.
"He is a man who is so alive and vibrant. It is a terrible vacuum for all of us," she added.
Banu shared that for several months she had been sending out meals to the poor on Kumar's behalf.
It is often said time heals all wounds, but Banu said life has become unimaginable without her saheb, as she used to fondly address him.
"I am not too good. I am striving to make myself fitter. You can imagine it is a very difficult job. It is a terrible jolt. I really wonder how long it will take to recover or if I do recover," she said.
Banu had shared screen space with Kumar in quite a few films like "Sagina", "Bairaag" and "Gopi", before their marriage in 1966.
The actor said that the memories of over five decades she spent with Kumar is what keeps her going.
"(I believe) he is walking side-by-side with me with his hands in mine. He is very much there, that's the way I think and that is the way I want to live and be alive. It is unimaginable for me to walk without him, you know, we have shared a life together. It&rsquo;s been 55-56 years of togetherness,&rdquo; she added.
"Every marriage has ups and downs but we had a wonderful happy time together. He has been so supportive in my life. It has been my good fortune to have shared my life with him. I will always treasure him. He will always and always be alive for me," Banu said.&nbsp;

Wrapped in the tricolour, Dilip Kumar's final journey was witnessed by hundreds of fans and onlookers who gathered to pay their last respect.
Dilip Kumar's funeral was held at Juhu Qabrastan in Santacruz Mumbai with close family in attendance.&nbsp;
Mumbai police officers accompanied the funeral procession from Dilip Kumar's residence in Bandra&nbsp;to Juhu Qabristan.&nbsp; Earlier in the day, fellow actors, and colleagues from the film fraternity bid a final farewell to the thespian.

Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan condoled the demise of veteran actor Dilip&nbsp;Kumar&nbsp;, he tweeted, that he can never forget his generosity in giving his time to help raise funds for Shaukat Khanum Memorial Cancer Hospital and Research Centre in Pakistan, when the project was launched. Khan also wrote that for his generation Dilip Kumar was the greatest and most versatile actor.
Sad at Kumar's&nbsp;passing, Pakistan&nbsp;President Arif Alvi&nbsp;said he was 'an outstanding actor, a humble man, and a dignified personality'.

Few hours after Dilip Kumar's demise was announced on his official Twitter handle, the legendary actors' mortal remains were wheeled out of the PD Hinduja Hospital in Mumbai and were taken to the actor's residence.
Wife Saira Banu was seen right by Dilip Saab's side and was surrounded with family and friends.
