&nbsp;The Enforcement Directorate (ED) Friday conducted searches in multiple cities of Bihar and other locations, including premises of former CM Lalu Prasad Yadav's three daughters and RJD leaders, in connection with a money laundering investigation into the land for jobs 'scam' case.
The searches are covering the premises linked to Prasad's daughters Ragini Yadav, Chanda Yadav and Hema Yadav and former RJD MLA Abu Dojana in Patna, Phulwari Sharif, Delhi-NCR, Ranchi and Mumbai, officials said.
The case pertains to people allegedly given employment in the railways in return for land parcels gifted or sold at cheap rates to the Yadav family and its associates, they said. The CBI has filed a charge sheet in the case against Prasad, his wife and former Bihar chief minister Rabri Devi and 14 others under charges of criminal conspiracy and provisions of the Prevention of Corruption Act, and all the accused have been summoned on March 15, officials had said.
The ED case, filed under the criminal sections of the Prevention of Money Laundering Act, stems from this CBI complaint.
Both Lalu Prasad and Rabri Devi were questioned by the CBI in this case recently.

CBI reopens probe against Lalu Yadav in IRCTC scam case

The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has re-initiated probe against former RJD chief Lalu Prasad Yadav in the Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation (IRCTC) scam, according to an NDTV report.
The federal agency had registered a criminal case against then Railway Minister Lalu Prasad Yadav. Bihar's current Deputy CM Tejashwi Yadav, and Yadav's daughters were also among those named in the corruption scam.&nbsp;
In 2018, the federal agency began probe into allegations of corruption in the allotment of Railway projects when Yadav held the portfolio. However, the inquiry was closed in May 2021, with CBI sources saying that "no case has been made out of the allegations", NDTV reported.&nbsp;
CBI's probe comes months after Nitish Kumar parted ways with the BJP and joined hands with Rashtriya Janata Dal to form the government in Bihar. It is likely to kickstart a political storm in the state.&nbsp;

&nbsp;Flats, jewellery, cash, coal washeries and plots belonging to arrested Chhattisgarh government bureaucrats like Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel's Deputy Secretary Saumya Chaurasia, IAS officer Sameer Vishnoi and others have been attached in the alleged coal levy scam money laundering case, the ED said Saturday.
The federal probe agency issued a provisional order for attachment of some movable and 91 immovable properties on Friday under the criminal sections of the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA).
The assets are worth a total Rs 152.31 crore, the Enforcement Directorate said in a statement.
The frozen assets include 65 properties belonging to coal trader and "main kingpin" in the case Suryakant Tiwari, 21 properties of Chaurasia, a powerful bureaucrat of the state administrative service posted in the Chief Minister's Office (CMO), and five assets of 2009-batch IAS officer Sameer Vishnoi apart from that of another coal businessman of Chhattisgarh, Sunil Agarwal and some others.
"The properties include cash, jewellery, flats, coal washeries and plots of land located in Chhattisgarh," the ED said.

All the four, apart from another businessman Laxmikant Tiwari (uncle of Suryakant Tiwari), have been arrested by the ED in the case.
The money laundering case stems from an Income Tax department complaint.

Police in Hyderabad have busted a Chinese investment fraud of Rs 903 crore with the arrest of 10 people, including a Chinese national. The police began investigation after a local complained of being cheated after he invested Rs 1.6 lakh in an investment app. It was found that the money of the local was deposited in the account of a private company with a private bank. When police located the owner of the bank account, who is a resident of Delhi, he revealed that he opened the bank account on the orders of a Chinese man and that he gave the internet banking user name and password to him.
It was also found that several bank accounts were opened by the Delhi man and his accomplice. The two persons received a commission of Rs 1.2 lakh per banl account.
A large amount of money from 38 virtual bank accounts of the private company went to two money changing companies.
The modus operandi was to use RBI approved money changers to convert illegally gathered funds through investment apps, and transfer them into dollars and then send them abroad.
The investigation showed that two persons who played major role in the fraud are in China.
The Hyderabad police would coordinate with agencies like ED and DRI in view of the serious nature of the fraud.

Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on Friday alleged the Central Bureau of Investigation and the Enforcement Directorate are "unnecessarily troubling everyone" and said the country can't progress like this.
Addressing a press conference, the chief minister said the Lieutenant Governor, the CBI and the BJP have quoted varying amounts of money involved in the alleged liquor scam but he doesn't understand what it is really about.
His remarks came after the ED launched fresh raids at about 40 locations across the country as part of a money laundering investigation into alleged irregularities in the now-scrapped Delhi Excise Policy 2021-22.
The raids are being conducted at premises linked to liquor businessmen, distributors and supply chain networks in Nellore and some other cities in Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka, Tamil Nadu and Delhi-NCR, official sources said.
"One of their (BJP) leaders says that it is a scam of Rs 8,000 crore, the LG says it is a scam of Rs 144 crore and the CBI FIR says there is a scam of Rs 1 crore. I don't understand what the liquor scam is," Kejriwal said.
"The country cannot progress like this. They are unnecessarily troubling everyone," he said.

The ED is probing if there were irregularities in the formulation and implementation of the Delhi excise policy and if any "proceeds of crime" in terms of tainted money were generated by the accused.
On August 19, the CBI had conducted raids at various places, including Sisodia's residence here, in connection with the excise policy case.
Kejriwal alleged the BJP-ruled civic body plans to create 16 new landfill sites in Delhi and turn it into a city of garbage hills.
At present, three landfill sites -- Ghazipur, Okhla and Bhalswa -- are located at Delhi borders.
"People living in the vicinity of these landfill sites are affected by the foul smell emanating from these garbage mounds and a host of other issues. We have heard that there are plans to make 16 new garbage hills in the national capital," the chief minister said.
On the other hand, he said, the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government is developing Delhi into a city of parks and lakes.
"If given a chance, we will beautify the national capital in a time-bound manner," he added.
The AAP has launched a month-long campaign to highlight the failures of the BJP-ruled civic body. As part of the campaign, groups led by AAP MLAs tried to reach Ghazipur and Okhla landfill sites on Wednesday and Thursday, respectively, but were stopped by police.
The BJP ruled the three erstwhile municipal corporations in Delhi and the AAP was the main opposition party till the terms of the civic bodies expired in May.
Elections to constitute a new civic body are yet to be held as an exercise for delimitation of municipal wards is underway.

The searches were conducted at half-a-dozen locations of the gaming app named 'E-Nuggets' and its promoter identified as Aamir Khan and others, the Enforcement Directorate said in a statement.
The money laundering case stems from an FIR filed by the Kolkata Police against the company and its promoters in February 2021 on a complaint filed by the Federal Bank authorities.
Initially, the users of the app were rewarded with a commission and the balance in the wallet could be withdrawn hassle-free. Later, the withdrawal facility was stopped and all data, including profile information, was wiped off the app servers, according to the ED.

The Madhya Pradesh Accountant General has found large-scale irregularities in nutrition programmes meant for women and children in terms of beneficiary identification, production, distribution, and quality control, reported NDTV.
Among the findings of the 36-page audit report was an exaggeration of the number of beneficiaries, vehicles listed as trucks turned out to be two-wheelers - scooters and motorcycles, and quality checks of food avoided.
The AG has got in touch with the Chief Secretary and sought an investigation by an 'independent agency' into the alleged scam, reported Times of India.
The irregularities have been detected in the Take Home Ration (THR) scheme for 2021 implemented by the Women and Child Development (WCD) department which is headed by BJP chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan. The scheme is part of the Integrated Child Development Services (ICDS) programme.
The audit report has studied around 24 percent of beneficiaries of THR, a programme aimed at providing nourishment to 49.58 lakh registered children and women. These included 34.69 lakh children aged between 6 months to 3 years, 14.25 lakh pregnant women and lactating mothers and 0.64 lakhs Out Of School Adolescent Girls or OOSAGs aged between 11-14 years, basing the auditor's findings on nearly 12 lakh individuals.&nbsp;
On Sunday, following news report on the audit, the state government responded by blaming 'clerical errors' in part and assured corrective measures, as per TOI.&nbsp;
The report states that in 2018-19, the school education department had estimated the number of out-of-school girls at 9,000, but the WCD Department, without conducting any baseline survey, estimated their number at 36.08 lakh.
The audit found a clear indication of "data manipulation" during 2018-21, leading to the "fake distribution of THR worth INR 110.83 crore."
The AG also suspects a fake supply of 821.8 MT THR, worth INR 4.95 crore. Around 479.4 MT of THR worth INR 2.96 crore was transported on 'non-existent' trucks.

The BJP on Monday alleged a scam in the Delhi education department, saying the city government increased the budget for the construction of classrooms in its existing schools, ignoring the Central Public Works Department’s guidelines.
Citing a Central Vigilance Commission (CVC) report sent to the Delhi government's vigilance department in 2020, the saffron party said the city government hiked the construction cost by Rs 326 crore, 53 percent more than the original tender amount, without floating a new tender.
Alleging that the Delhi government counted toilets as classrooms to inflate figures related to school infrastructure, it said the AAP’s education model was actually an “extortion model”.
While addressing the media, BJP spokesperson Gaurav Bhatia hit out at AAP leader Arvind Kejriwal and said, "You, your party and your corrupt ministers will be punished under the law of the land... you will not be spared" 
Furthermore, the saffron party leader added "The AAP government promised to construct 500 new schools in Delhi. That never happened. They then said they will build more classrooms in the existing schools. The number of rooms was increased from 2,400 to 7,180. The construction cost was increased by up to 90 per cent," Citing the CVC report, Bhatia said only 4,027 additional classrooms were constructed against the assessed requirement of 6,133 classrooms.
Bhatia said according to the CVC report, only two rainwater harvesting systems were found installed against the public works department’s claim of 29.

The BJP on Monday alleged a scam in the Delhi education department, saying the city government increased the budget for the construction of classrooms in its existing schools, ignoring the Central Public Works Department&rsquo;s guidelines.
Citing a Central Vigilance Commission (CVC) report sent to the Delhi government's vigilance department in 2020, the saffron party said the city government hiked the construction cost by Rs 326 crore, 53 percent more than the original tender amount, without floating a new tender.
Alleging that the Delhi government counted toilets as classrooms to inflate figures related to school infrastructure, it said the AAP&rsquo;s education model was actually an &ldquo;extortion model&rdquo;.
While addressing the media, BJP spokesperson Gaurav Bhatia hit out at AAP leader Arvind Kejriwal and said, "You, your party and your corrupt ministers will be punished under the law of the land... you will not be spared"&nbsp;
Furthermore, the saffron party leader added "The AAP government promised to construct 500 new schools in Delhi. That never happened. They then said they will build more classrooms in the existing schools. The number of rooms was increased from 2,400 to 7,180. The construction cost was increased by up to 90 per cent," Citing the CVC report, Bhatia said only 4,027 additional classrooms were constructed against the assessed requirement of 6,133 classrooms.
Bhatia said according to the CVC report, only two rainwater harvesting systems were found installed against the public works department&rsquo;s claim of 29.

According to reports by LocalCircles, it has shown that 42% Indians surveyed experienced financial fraud in the last 3 years, 74% of those who experienced it failed to get money back. 
Survey that was conducted in October 2021 revealed that 29% of citizens share their ATM or debit card pin details with close family members, while 4% share it with their domestic and office staff.
Not only this, online brokerage platform, Zerodha also warns users regarding the hacking incidents. Posting it on twitter, Zerodha said frauders are posing as employees are calling people and asking for sensitive information like PAN, Bank details etc.

Investigators have called the case a Ponzi scheme with a "virtual twist". Basically, Ignatova's company sold OneCoin tokens which were worthless. Customers were promised high returns with low risk.
An exchange to convert OneCoin into real currency was never set up. Additionally, OneCoin was not backed by crypto-technology like blockchain, which is a decentralised digital ledger.

Customers were also told to encourage people they knew to buy OneCoin. In return, these customers were given commission for selling the cryptocurrency.
Ponzi schemes usually collapse when fresh customers dry up, and the flow of money stops, as the main product has no real value. To keep investors enthused, Ignatova also claimed that an IPO was in the pipeline, but it never occurred.&nbsp;
Some arrests have taken place in the case. In 2019, Ruja Ignatova's brother Konstantin was arrested by the FBI. He reportedly pleaded guilty and struck a deal to cooperate with the government.
Along with Konstantin Ignatov, US corporate lawyer Mark Scott was convicted for laundering $400 million for OneCoin. However, the prominent face of the company remains at large.
Ruja Ignatova was born in Bulgaria in 1980. She speaks Bulgarian, English, and German. She studied law at Oxford, and also has a PhD from Konstanz university. She worked with consultancy firm McKinsey &amp; Company before setting up OneCoin in 2014.

Beware! Behind that WhatsApp message from a new number with your friend's profile picture could be a fraudster. WhatsApp scams have started cropping up in alarming numbers recently. And they're growing more and more audacious.
Recently, a senior IAS officer in Jammu and Kashmir claimed that he had become a victim of cyber fraud. Shahid Choudhary accused scamsters of impersonating him on WhatsApp by using his photograph. The criminals allegedly contacted Choudhary's friends and colleagues and sought financial help.
Days earlier, Chandigarh's police chief was targeted in a similar way. Fraudsters posed as Praveer Ranjan on WhatsApp and asked the DGP's acquintances to send Amazon gift cards.

In March, a similar scam took place in Kerala. A teacher in Kollam was duped of ₹14 lakh after fraudsters sent WhatsApp messages posing as Kerala's police chief. The teacher was told that she had won the lottery and would be booked if tax was not paid on the winnings. The number used to send the messages was reportedly registered in an Assam native's name.
Recent cases have highlighted at least 3 types of common scams which are perpetrated through WhatsApp and Facebook.
The first is WhatsApp hijacking. Scamsters try to log into their target's WhatsApp account by using that person's phone number. Then, to get the verification pin, the criminals pose as WhatsApp technicians. If the target shares the PIN, then scamsters gain access to the person's WhatsApp account. Subsequently, they send messages to the target's friends and family seeking money, or further OTPs.

The second type is the WhatsApp DP scam which we told you about earlier. For this, a WhatsApp account is created using a fake or virtual SIM. Then a government official's photograph is set as the profile picture. Subsequently, messages are sent to unsuspecting people seeking money or other favours.
Another type of scam involves fake Facebook accounts. In this, scamsters create fake accounts of their targets and then contact the target's friends and family. Covid troubles, and financial crisis are common excuses used by scamsters to seek money in this type of con.
With such cases emerging in various parts of the country, authorities have been spreading awareness and telling people how to stay safe.
Some of the basic precautions include not replying to messages from unknown numbers even if the profile picture is of a person whom you know. Do not transfer money without verifying the request offline with the person asking for help.
Do not share OTPs, passwords, bank details, and credit and debit card information under any circumstances. Do not install remote access apps, and do not click on suspicious links. Also, secure your social media accounts by enabling two-factor authentication.
Cyber criminals prey on people's lack of awareness to carry out their cons. So share this information as widely as possible to make such scams virtually impossible.

Singapore based&nbsp;B2B fashion venture has fired it's CEO&nbsp;and co-founder Ankiti&nbsp;Bose, two months after she was suspended.&nbsp; In a statement released Zilingo&nbsp;informed investors&nbsp;"Following an investigation led by an independent forensics firm that was commissioned to look into complaints of serious financial irregularities, the company has decided to terminate Ankiti Bose&rsquo;s employment with cause, and reserves the right to pursue appropriate legal action."&nbsp;&nbsp; Bose who founded the company in 2015 with Dhruv&nbsp;Kapoor&nbsp;is facing allegation and investigation around financial irregularities bought up by investor Sequoia . She was suspended from her duties on March 31 after which the company launched an investigation.Co-founder Dhruv Kapoor is looking after his primary role as the CTO and Bose&rsquo;s role as CEO in her absence.
