Initial Mission Plans and Setbacks
Williams and Wilmore launched aboard Boeing's Starliner on June 5, 2024, as part of its first crewed flight under NASA's Commercial Crew Program. The mission, initially intended to last just one week, aimed to evaluate the Starliner's performance in launch, docking, and landing phases. However, technical issues with the spacecraft forced an early return of the capsule to Earth&mdash;without the astronauts onboard&mdash;leading to significant delays in their planned journey back. 
Challenges with Return Timelines
Originally expected to return in February 2025, their return has now been postponed to late March or early April 2025. The delay arises from additional time required by SpaceX to prepare a new Crew Dragon capsule to accommodate the astronauts. NASA explored alternate options, including using a different SpaceX capsule, but ultimately decided to extend their stay until the new capsule is ready for launch.

SpaceX Steps in to Provide a Solution
After deeming Boeing&rsquo;s Starliner unsuitable for the astronauts' return due to persistent malfunctions and safety concerns, NASA partnered with SpaceX to adjust its Crew-9 mission. SpaceX's Crew Dragon capsule will now bring Williams and Wilmore back to Earth, underscoring its pivotal role in NASA's current operations.

Significance of Starliner&rsquo;s Mission Despite the setbacks, the Starliner mission marked a critical milestone as Boeing's first crewed flight. Japanese scientists have said that for the first time mouse embryos have been grown in space.

Mouse embryos have been grown on the International Space Station and developed normally in the first study indicating it could be possible for humans to reproduce in space, a group of Japanese scientists said.
 The researchers, including Teruhiko Wakayama, professor of University of Yamanashi's Advanced Biotechnology Centre, and a team from the Japan Aerospace Space Agency (JAXA), sent frozen mouse embryos on board a rocket to the ISS in August 2021.
Astronauts thawed the early-stage embryos using a special device designed for this purpose and grew them on the station for four days.
"The embryos cultured under microgravity conditions developed" normally into blastocysts, cells that develop into the foetus and placenta, the scientists said.
The experiment "clearly demonstrated that gravity had no significant effect," the researchers said in a study that was published online in the scientific journal iScience on Saturday.
They also said there were no significant changes in condition of the DNA and genes, after they analysed the blastocysts that were sent back to their laboratories on Earth.
This is "the first-ever study that shows mammals may be able to thrive in space," University of Yamanashi and national research institute Riken said in a joint statement on Saturday.
It is "the world's first experiment that cultured early-stage mammalian embryos under complete microgravity of ISS," the statement said.
 "In the future, it will be necessary to transplant the blastocysts that were cultured in ISS's microgravity into mice to see if mice can give birth" to confirm that the blastocysts are normal, it added.
Such research could be important for future space exploration and colonisation missions.
Under its Artemis programme, NASA plans to send humans back to the Moon in order to learn how to live there long-term to help prepare a trip to Mars, sometime towards the end of the 2030s.

Notably, both groups were trained to cook prior to the social experiment.
The result of the experiment left social media users in utter shock as the boys became destructive and they mostly survived on cereal and fizzy drinks.
Whereas, the group of girls also displayed chaotic behaviour but were more organised; they cooked meals, cleaned up the house and managed things better as compared to the boys.
Reacting to the viral videos, social media users said, "So all of them took a cooking course? And only one group cooked? Only one group cleaned? Only one group organized meetings? Only one group delegated tasks? And that&rsquo;s the group that would make terrible leaders because they&rsquo;re &ldquo;too much drama and too emotional?????"

This is not what we are saying but the latest study published in the journal PLOS One is suggesting so. As per the study, men with low sex drive are almost twice (1.82 times) as likely to suffer early death.&nbsp;
The researchers from Yamagata University, Japan studied around 20,000 people of which there were 8,588 men and 12,411 women.&nbsp;
The research found that those who lacked sexual interest tended to be older, had diabetes, laughed less, and were likely to drink more.
Other than this, men who were over the age of 40, and who had low libido were 1.94 times as likely to die from cancer and 1.36 times as likely to die of heart disease.&nbsp;
Researchers also noted that women reported more than twice lower libidos as men but there was no link found between low sex drive and mortality.&nbsp;
Scientists concluded by saying that maintaining sexual interest may be related to positive psychological well-being among men.&nbsp;

The thin white filament, approximately the size of a human eyelash, is “by far the largest bacterium known to date”, said Jean-Marie Volland, a marine biologist at the Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory and co-author of a paper announcing the discovery Thursday in the journal Science.
Olivier Gros, a co-author and biologist at the University of the French West Indies and Guiana, found the first example of this bacterium — named Thiomargarita magnifica, or “magnificent sulfur pearl” — clinging to sunken mangrove leaves in the archipelago of Guadeloupe in 2009.
But he didn't immediately know it was a bacterium because of its surprisingly large size, just over a third of an inch (0.9 centimeters) long. Only later genetic analysis revealed the organism to be a single bacterial cell.
“It's an amazing discovery,” said Petra Levin, a microbiologist at Washington University in St Louis, who was not involved in the study.
“It opens up the question of how many of these giant bacteria are out there — and reminds us we should never, ever underestimate bacteria.” Gros also found the bacterium attached to oyster shells, rocks and glass bottles in the swamp.
Scientists have not yet been able to grow it in lab culture, but the researchers' say the cell has a structure that's unusual for bacteria. One key difference: It has a large central compartment, or vacuole, that allows some cell functions to happen in that controlled environment instead of throughout the cell.
“The acquisition of this large central vacuole definitely helps a cell to bypass physical limitations ... on how big a cell can be,” said Manuel Campos, a biologist at the French National Centre for Scientific Research, who was not involved in the study.
The researchers said they aren't certain why the bacterium is so large, but co-author Volland hypothesised it may be an adaptation to help it avoid being eaten by smaller organisms.

'Headband works as face mask&nbsp;extender to connect ear straps'

Digantika Bose, a grade 12 student from West Bengal, has won the prestigious&nbsp;national science competition award for an innovative &lsquo;ear pressure reduction tool&rsquo; that she has created to help&nbsp;frontline&nbsp;Covid-19&nbsp;workers.&nbsp;
Bose was one of nine children&nbsp;who were awarded the Dr A P J Abdul Kalam Ignited Mind Children Creativity and Innovation Awards 2020.
Talking about her innovation, Digantika&nbsp;told Indian Express,&nbsp;&ldquo;The head band is a facemask extender that simply connects the ear straps and extends them to wrap around the back of your head. As a result, there will be no pressure on the ears, and hence no discomfort or pain.&rdquo;
