Ahead of G20 events, Delhi Police to procure 500 vehicles, high-tech security apparatus

Over 200 meetings at 55 locations across the country will be held during this period, culminating with a summit in September in Delhi.

In view of G20 events in the national capital, Delhi Police has decided to procure 500 new vehicles equipped with high-tech security gadgets to provide foolproof protection to foreign dignitaries attending the programme, officials said on Monday.
The G20 or Group of 20 is an intergovernmental forum of the world's major developed and developing economies. The bloc comprises Argentina, Australia, Brazil, Canada, China, France, Germany, India, Indonesia, Italy, Japan, the Republic of Korea, Mexico, Russia, Saudi Arabia, South Africa, Turkiye, the UK, the US and the European Union (EU).
India assumed the presidency of the G20 on December 1 last year.
Over 200 meetings at 55 locations across the country will be held during this period, culminating with a summit in September in Delhi.
According to the officials, the security wing of Delhi Police will be getting 200 Mahindra Bolero -- seven-seater compact SUV -- and 200 Maruti Ertiga which is also a seven seater-vehicle. These two brands of vehicles will be inducted by March in the lead up to the G20 summit.
"We are also procuring 100 Scorpio cars. Although we have sufficient number of vehicles for our routine security arrangements, but for the G-20 summit, we are procuring additional 500 new vehicles which will be used by the security wing of our force as the security of foreign dignitaries visiting the national capital from across the world is our responsibility," a senior police officer said.
Apart from vehicles, the police department has also placed orders for various security-related equipment, including bullet resistant explosive detectors, night vision, vehicle surveillance system, baggage scanners, among other items.

&ldquo;A resident discharged a firearm, security forces arrived on scene to apprehend the intruder and law enforcement is investigating the incident.&rdquo; Joint Base Andrews is home to the fleet of blue and white presidential aircraft, including Air Force One, Marine One and the &ldquo;doomsday&rdquo; 747 aircraft that can serve as the nation's airborne nuclear command and control centres if needed.
The Air Force said late Monday it did not have anything to add beyond the Andrews statement about Monday's intrusion.
It's not the first time the base's security has been breached; in February 2021 a man got through the military checkpoint onto the installation, then through additional fenced secure areas to gain access to the flight line and climb into a C-40, which is the military's 737-equivalent aircraft used to fly government officials.
That intruder was apprehended because the &ldquo;mouse ears&rdquo; cap he was wearing struck an observant airman as odd.
An inspector general's investigation found three main security failings, starting with &ldquo;human error&rdquo; by a gate security guard who allowed the man to drive onto the base even though he had no credentials that authorised his access.
Hours later, the man walked undetected onto the flight line by slipping through a fence designed to restrict entry.
Finally, he walked onto and off a parked airplane without being challenged, even though he was not wearing a required badge authorising access to the restricted area.&nbsp;

The march, which started from Kanyakumari in Tamil Nadu on September 7, will conclude with Gandhi hoisting the national flag in Srinagar. Asked if there was any threat input about the Yatra, the top cop said, &ldquo;There is no such input." To a question on whether the Yatra will be allowed on foot, he replied that it will be regulated in such a manner that people do not face any inconvenience.
&ldquo;These things will be regulated because there is traffic and other things. A huge yatra can cause inconvenience to people as roads can get blocked. This is a Yatra and is taken both on foot as well as using vehicles.
&ldquo;Our endeavour will be to take forward the march with vehicles wherever there is a single road, and in rest of the places, the participants may be advised to walk on foot where the roads allow,&rdquo; Singh said. He asserted that the Yatra can be "guided from the security point of view as well wherever it is needed".

Delhi Police has deployed over 18,000 personnel from district and traffic units across the national capital to keep a strict vigil on any kind of violations and ensure security during New Year celebrations, officials said on Saturday.
As many as 125 spots of drunk driving have been identified in the city for taking strict action against those driving under the influence alcohol, they said.
Last year, a total of 657 challans were issued on New Year's eve, in which 36 were related to drunk driving, according to police.
Traffic will be restricted at Connaught Place from 8 pm Saturday, they said, adding alcometers will be used to check drunk driving.

“A large number of security personnel, including those from the anti-riot force, have been deployed in the violence-hit areas of Jahangirpuri in northwest Delhi,” police said.

The United States Federal Trade Commission has announced a settlement with videoconferencing platform Zoom over &ldquo;misleading claims&rdquo; about its security.

The United States Federal Trade Commission has announced a settlement with videoconferencing platform Zoom over &ldquo;misleading claims&rdquo; about its security.
Zoom had announced the&rdquo; end-to-end encryption&rdquo; in March, but according to the FTC, Zoom had the cryptographic keys that could allow the company to access customers&rsquo; meetings.
Zoom finally introduced the first of four phases of its end-to-end encryption in October for free and paid users in meetings with up to 200 participants.

Mark Zuckerberg might have drawn a base salary of $1 for the last three years, but his “other” compensation was listed at $22.6 million, most of which was for his personal security. A regulatory filing showed on Friday that Facebook Inc more than doubled the money it spent on its CEO’s security in 2018 to $22.6 million.
Nearly $20 million went toward security for Zuckerberg and his family, up from about $9 million the year prior. Zuckerberg had also received $2.6 million for personal use of private jets, which the company said was part of his overall security program.
