A teacher was stripped and assaulted for allegedly indulging in obscene acts with a 17-year-old student.

A teacher of a private coaching institute in Madhya Pradesh's Indore was stripped and beaten up on Wednesday by a group of people, who later took him to a police station for allegedly indulging in obscene acts with a 17-year-old girl preparing for NEET exam, an official said.
A video of the teacher being thrashed by the group has gone viral on social media.
"The teacher of the private coaching institute allegedly called the teenage girl, preparing for National Eligibility-cum-Entrance Test (NEET), to a cafe on the pretext of helping her in her studies. But when she reached the place, he indulged in obscene acts with her," Tukoganj police station in-charge Jitendra Yadav said.
The accused teacher has been detained, he said.
After what happened at the cafe, a fellow teacher of the accused allegedly threatened the victim over the phone that if she told anyone about the incident, she would have to face serious consequences, the police official said.
A case is being registered against both the teachers under relevant provisions of the Indian Penal Code (IPC), he added.
"The video of a group of people beating up the stripped teacher has come to our notice and appropriate legal action will be taken," Yadav said.

National coach RK Sharma, who was dismissed recently after India’s top cyclist accused him of sexual harassment, is facing another allegation of objectionable behavior by International gold medallist Deborah Herold. 
While speaking to The Indian Express, the national champion said that she was removed from the national team, after the team’s assistant coach, Gautamani Devi ‘thought she was in a relationship with another female cyclist’. 
Clarifying that Devi misunderstood their relationship, the Andaman-based cyclist spoke about the discomfort she faced before being removed from the national camp. The 27-year-old said that the coach & the assistant coach constantly harassed her by ignoring her, taunting her, and eventually she was also isolated from the rest of the cyclists. 
Herold was removed from the team in 2018, when she was the country’s fastest cyclist in 200m sprint and 500m time trial events. 
The National champion also accused Sharma of ‘slapping’ her in 2015. ‘The ac in my room was not working, I went to a fellow boy’s room for which he slapped me twice, she said.
Apart from Herold, 2 other members of the national team have also accused Sharma of ‘constantly harassing and threatening them’ which they said, affected their performance over the years. 
Sports Authority of India dismissed RK Sharma from his position after a top cyclist alleged that the coach forced her to stay in his room, offered her a post-training massage, forcefully tried to pull her towards himself, and asked her to sleep with him during a camp in Slovenia in May.

Punjab Home Minister Atta Tarar announced the emergency. He reportedly said that 4-5 rape cases are being reported every day in the state, and special measures are needed to counter sexual harassment, abuse, and coercion. The government announced that the Cabinet Committee on Rape and Law &amp; Order will review all these cases.

A month earlier, 27-year-old Noor Muqaddam, the daughter of a former diplomat, was raped, tortured, and killed allegedly by the scion of a prominent industrialist family.
In July 2016, social media star Qandeel Baloch was murdered by her brother for what he called "intolerable behaviour". In June 2002, a woman named Mukhtaran Mai had been gangraped on orders of the village council as punishment for her brother's relationship with a woman from a rival tribe. In April 1999, 28-year-old Samia Sarwar had been shot dead allegedly be her family for seeking a divorce over domestic violence.
In light of such distressing cases, Pakistan ranks 167 out of 170 countries on the Global Women, Peace, and Security Index. According to police records, 41,000 women went missing in Pakistan's Punjab province in the last 5 years, and over 3,500 of them had not been found by March 2022.
Studies say that at least 32% women in Pakistan have experienced physical violence, and 28% women aged between 15 and 49 years have been victims of intimate partner violence. Experts agree that these figures are conservative. Meanwhile, the conviction rate is limited to 1% to 2.5% in crimes against women.
The imposition of an emergency in Pakistan's Punjab has been sparked by an alarming spike in violence. On 14 June, a rickshaw driver allegedly raped a teenage girl in Muzaffargarh. On 27 May, a 25-yr-old woman was allegedly gangraped on a Karachi-Multan train. A day earlier, robbers allegedly raped a minor girl in front of her family in Pattoki. On 22 May, a bus driver working with a private company allegedly raped a woman in Bahawalpur.
With panic gripping women, Pakistani authorities have announced a slew of measures. The steps include fast-track DNA examination by forensic labs to identify assailants. The government is also running anti-rape campaigns to spread awareness.
The authorities are also telling parents to not leave children unattended at home. Additionally, students will be sensitised at school regarding sexual harassment. The government will also consult civil society, women's rights activists, and teachers for prevention of sexual crimes.
It remains to be seen whether measures like imposition of emergency are effective in ending an entrenched culture of crimes against women and subsequent impunity in Pakistan.

An Indian cyclist has accused the national sprint team chief coach, RK Sharma of inappropriate behaviour, during her Slovenia camp, as per a report in The Indian Express. The Indian cyclist who has now been brought back to India on the orders of the Sports Authority of India (SAI) had reportedly complained to the SAI and the Cycling Federation of India. Both the bodies did not reveal the name of the complainant and have formed separate inquiry committees to look into the allegations. As per the report, CFI in its statement said that they have identified the complainant and coach, and they now stand with the complainant. 'Following the complaint by the athlete, SAI has immediately brought her back to India to ensure her safety and has also constituted a committee to investigate the matter',SAI said.

Catholic groups in Italy have demanded an independent national enquiry into allegations of sexual abuse against the church. Accusing Italy's Church of an "institutional failure" to confront sexual abuse by clergy, the pressure groups have called for probe like the ones conducted in France and Germany.
Advocates for victims of sex abuse by Italian clergy launched #ItalyChurchToo movement lamenting that deference showed the Catholic Church hierarchy in Italy has conditioned everything from criminal prosecutions to media coverage of the problem.
A collective of nine groups - seven headed by women - said they hoped recent national inquiries in Germany and France, and planned ones in Spain and Portugal, would pressure the Italian Catholic Church to open its archives to independent investigators. 
But they acknowledged the context is far more complicated in Italy than in other European countries given the outsized political, economic and social weight the church carries in the pope's backyard.
The church's influence has resulted in a reluctance by prosecutors to investigate clergy abuse cases, a refusal by lawmakers to back parliamentary inquiries and disinterest by the Italian public, organisers of the #ItalyChurchToo campaign said.

Advocates for victims of sex abuse by Italian clergy launched #ItalyChurchToo movement lamenting that deference showed the Catholic Church hierarchy in Italy has conditioned everything from criminal prosecutions to media coverage of the problem.
A collective of nine groups - seven headed by women - said they hoped recent national inquiries in Germany and France, and planned ones in Spain and Portugal, would pressure the Italian Catholic Church to open its archives to independent investigators.&nbsp;

But they acknowledged the context is far more complicated in Italy than in other European countries given the outsized political, economic and social weight the church carries in the pope's backyard.
The church's influence has resulted in a reluctance by prosecutors to investigate clergy abuse cases, a refusal by lawmakers to back parliamentary inquiries and disinterest by the Italian public, organisers of the #ItalyChurchToo campaign said.

In 2016, a man in Jhansi was booked for having "oral sex" with the 10-year-old boy in exchange for Rs 20. The boy had also been threatened with dire consequences if he told anybody about the incident.
A lower court then sentenced the accused to 10-year jail term. The convict appealed against the sentence in the high court.
The Allahabad High Court partly allowed the appeal and sentenced the convict to seven years in jail instead of 10 years.

A bench headed by Justice U U Lalit set aside the high court judgement, and said the most important ingredient of constituting sexual assault is sexual intent and not skin-to-skin with the child.
Purpose of the law cannot be to allow the offender to escape the meshes of the law, the apex court said.

A Mumbai court has granted bail to a man suffering from 'Peter Pan Syndrome' in connection with a case of kidnapping and sexually assaulting a 14-year-old girl.
The lawyer for the 23-year-old accused stated that his client is suffering from the 'Peter Pan Syndrome'- a term used to describe an adult who is socially immature.
"The victim's family knew about their relationship. But, her family didn't like their relationship due to the boy's illness and poor background and also had a grudge against his family members," the defence lawyer told the court.
The lawyer further said the victim had the knowledge of what she was doing and got into the relationship voluntarily.
The court noted that the victim's statement "prima facie shows she herself left her parents' house and joined the company the accused".
