Star batter Babar Azam had stepped down as skipper from all three formats after Pakistan failed to advance from the group stages at the ODI World Cup last year with PCB naming Shaheen Shah Afridi and Shan Masood as the T20 and Test skippers respectively.
"The PCB must have one captain for all formats and there is no need to have a vice-captain. This will give a clear message to all players who are in charge," Afridi told reporters.
Expressing support for team director Mohammad Hafeez, the 46-year-old said the captain and team management should get at least three-year contracts.
"If you think Mohammad Hafeez is good then don't just judge him on one series give him proper time and the same should apply to the captain as well he should be there for three years." Afridi added that players in The T20 squad should be given a long run ahead of the World Cup later this year.
"The World T20 Cup is going to be a very tough tournament this year with some very strong teams in the hunt for the title. I also don&rsquo;t think this is the time to make any changes in the format squad," he said.
"We just need to continue with the same group of players and give them confidence. But yes I would like to see Fakhar Zaman and Saim Ayub open the batting in T20s,&rdquo; he said.&nbsp;

Former Pakistan captain Shahid Afridi has been named the interim chief selector of the Pakistan men's national team. He will head an interim committee of selectors that includes former players Abdul Razzaq, Rao Ifthikar Ahmed and Haroon Rasheed.&nbsp;
The Afridi-led team, for now, will be responsible for the selection of the team for the home series against New Zealand. Pak are set to play a 2-match Test and 3-match ODI series vs NZ starting December 26th.
Both Afridi and Haroon are members of the cricket management committee, headed by Najam Sethi. The committee has been appointed to run the affairs of the game for the next four months.
The newly-appointed committee had removed Muhammad Wasim as the chief selector on Friday, a position he held since December 2020.

After Shahid Afridi made a shocking claim about Pakistan's ace bowler Shaheen Afridi's rehabilitation in England, Pakistani legend Wasim Akram lashed out at the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) regarding their lack of efforts towards the situation.

Akram, reacting to Shahid Afridi's claims, expressed his shock, stating PCB have been very unfair to Pakistan's top bowler. Akram called Shaheen 'box-office' and said that he should be given the best surgeon possible for his treatment.

The former Pakistani captain's younger daughter was seen waving the Tiranga from the stands at the Super Four clash and he has now revealed the reason behind this.
"My wife told me that there were barely 10% Pakistani fans in the stadium and the rest were Indian fans. Pakistani flags were not available there so my younger daughter was waving the Indian flag", Afridi said in his latest YouTube video.
He further added that he received a video of his younger daughter but was unsure whether to share it online or not.

The former Pakistan captain has now revealed the reason behind it. "My wife told me that there were barely 10% Pakistani fans in the stadium and the rest were Indian fans. Pakistan eventually beat India in that encounter and Rohit Sharma's men later exited the Asia Cup without making it to the final.

Harbhajan Singh has hit back at people who trolled him on social media for allegedly laughing at Shahid Afridi's dig at Gautam Gambhir on a TV discussion.
Bhajji said that these people just want to have some fun, nothing else. Their job is to create issues in others' work, so that he says something or reacts. 'I don't have to clarify anything about how close Gautam and I are or how good our friendship is,' added the former India spinner.
Harbhajan also gave his advice to the trollers and told them to be humans and not to act like animals. 'Gautam is my brother and I am a proud Indian,' the former spinner concluded.
During a live discussion involving Harbhajan ahead of India's Asia Cup clash against Pakistan, Afridi had said, 'Gautam is such a character that even the Indian players don't like him.' This didn't go down well with the Indian fans as they slammed Bhajji for not giving a reply to Afridi.
