Senior Congress leader Shashi Tharoor is optimistic when it comes to opposition unity against Narendra Modi-government in the 2024 Lok Sabha election.
Tharoor, who was speaking at the launch of his book 'Pride, Prejudice and Punditry', said "In politics even one week is a very long time. So there is still two and a half years to go for the next Lok Sabha poll. We are hopeful that those who are speaking in different voices will come together to defeat BJP."

Tharoor also exuded confidence that opposition parties that have been speaking against the grand old party will come together as they share the same goal of defeating BJP.
Previously, several opposition parties, including TMC have attacked Congress for its failure to put up a fight against the BJP.
The Congress leader also mocked the NDA government at the Centre over its decision to observe Good Governance Week.
"My big problem with this government is that there is no good governance for 52 weeks of the year. So having good governance for just one week may not be enough," he said.
The Centre will launch a nationwide campaign on Monday for redressal of public grievances and improvising service delivery, especially in rural areas as part of the Good Governance Week.
A series of programmes are planned by the ministry of personnel, public grievances and pensions during the week to be observed during December 20-25.

The MPs have been suspended for their "unruly" conduct in the previous session in August.
The Opposition has termed the suspension as "undemocratic and in violation of all the Rules of Procedure" of the Upper House.
"I believed that my accepting Sansad TV's invitation to host a show was in the best traditions of India's parliamentary democracy, reaffirming the principle that our political differences did not prevent us, as Members of Parliament, from participating fully in various parliamentary institutions which belong to us all," the MP from Thiruvananthapuram said.
"However, the prolonged suspension of 12 MPs from the Rajya Sabha, expelled in an arbitrary manner for actions committed during a previous session, has called into question the very assumption of a bipartisan spirit animating the work of Parliament," Tharoor said.
Tharoor said that in solidarity with the protesting MPs, he has decided to suspend hosting of the talk show "To the Point" on Sansad TV until such time as the suspensions of MPs are revoked and a "semblance of bipartisanship restored to the conduct of Parliament and the functioning of Sansad TV".

The Indian Express reported that the panel has recommended that the government set up a Media Council, on the lines of the Press Council of India, with statutory powers over print, television and digital media platforms.
In its report on ‘Ethical Standards in Media Coverage’, which was submitted to Parliament on Wednesday, the committee said that current regulatory bodies like the PCI and the News Broadcasting Standards Authority are not as effective, that their “efficacy is limited” and the NBSA, a self-regulatory body, “depends on voluntary compliance with its orders”.
The committee said it is “of the firm opinion that PCI needs restructuring to cover all types of media” and the Union Ministry of Information and Broadcasting “should explore the possibility of establishing a wider Media Council, encompassing not just the print media but the electronic and digital media as well, and equip it with statutory powers to enforce its orders where required”.

The Supreme Court on Tuesday stayed the arrest of Congress MP Shashi Tharoor MP, journalists Rajdeep Sardesai, Vinod K Jose, Mrinal Pande, Zafar Agha, Anant Nath and Paresh Nath over multiple FIRs filed against them over their tweets and reports on a farmers death during the Delhi protest. 
A bench headed by the CJI SA Bobde passed the order while issuing notice on the writ petitions filed by them. Multiple FIRs have been registered against them alleging sedition, creation of communal disharmony etc in States of UP and MP.

Congress MP Shashi Tharoor and senior journalist Rajdeep Sardesai on Wednesday approached the Supreme Court over the multiple FIRs filed against them. The FIRs have been filed over their &ldquo;misleading&rdquo; tweets on violence during farmers&rsquo; tractor rally in Delhi on January 26. Journalists Mrinal Pande, Zafar Agha, Paresh Nath, and Anant Nath also approached the top court on Tuesday evening against the FIRs. FIRs have been filed in five states against Tharoor, Rajdeep, and five journalists over their tweets on the violence and death of a protester during the farmers&rsquo; tractor rally on Republic Day.
