Constable Siyaram went to her place and opened fire with a service revolver. The woman received a gunshot in her chest.
Moments later, Siyaram attempted suicide by shooting himself.
Both were rushed to a nearby hospital in critical condition and were later admitted to the district hospital.
The SP said the matter was being investigated.&nbsp;

Three other people who had no relationship to the shooter were injured. A fifth person was also taken to the hospital with injuries sustained in the shooting, police said Sunday afternoon.
Police haven't said what may have led to the shooting, or provided updates on the people who were taken to the hospital.
An investigation is continuing.
Jonesboro is about 70 miles (209 kilometres) northeast of Little Rock, Arkansas.

An Air Force corporal, who was preparing for the National Shooting Championships, lost his thumb in a bizarre explosion at Delhi's Karni Singh range.

A national-level shooter partially lost his left thumb when the 10m air pistol cylinder he was filling with compressed air exploded at the Karni Singh Range.
The incident, which left everyone shocked, occurred on Saturday evening.
Pushpender Kumar, a corporal with the Indian Air Force, was training at the shooting range for the National Championships, currently underway in Bhopal when he suffered severe damage to his left thumb, which required immediate hospitalisation.
He is currently admitted to the Indian Army's R&amp;R hospital here.
A national coach told PTI on condition of anonymity that while Pushpender was filling compressed air into the pistol cylinder from the main cylinder, the incident happened.
Air pistols and air rifles have a sleek gas cylinder attached just below the barrel. When the shooter presses the trigger, the compressed gas in the cylinder is released, which hits a hammer inside the air gun, ejecting the lead pellet.
The air pistol's cylinder has to be filled after a certain number of shots with the help of a compressor or a portable cylinder.
Earlier, carbon dioxide used to be the preferred gas to fill the cylinders but with the advancement in technology, compressed air cylinders, which look like smaller versions of LPG cylinders, are used to fill the air pistol cylinders.
Pushpender belongs to the Baghpat district of Uttar Pradesh and, while he has not competed in internationally, he is a senior member of the IAF team.
He had lost his mother nearly a month back.
"We are hopeful Pushpender will make 90-95 per cent recovery post surgery," said the coach.
"Air pistol cylinders have to be replaced after a certain period of time and the gun manufacturers do it for free. Thankfully, Pushpender's shooting arm is safe." The coach added that he had not come across such an incident in his career "though (gun) vendors say such incidents do happen".
It is not known whether the air pistol was personal or belonged to the Air Force.
"It is sad that he will not be able to compete in the national championships currently underway in Bhopal. His mother had passed away some 15-20 days back. As far as I know, he has not played internationally. He usually trains at the Karni Singh range in Delhi," the coach added.
The coach said that international rifle shooter from Meerut, Ravi Kumar, who is also with the IAF, was with Pushpender at the Army hospital to take care of him.
Kumar, a World Cup bronze medallist, told PTI that Pushpender is doing well post surgery and should be released from hospital soon.
"He is doing fine and should be discharged in the next 2-3 days," said Kumar.
Another pistol coach at the Karni Singh range said that it is important that air pistol and rifle shooters replace their gun cylinders every 10 years or as directed by the weapon manufacturer.
"There is a possibility of a mishap if the refill cylinders are not replaced as directed by the manufacturers. I don't know the exact cause of the blast but one should not take it lightly as once the validity expires anything can happen," he said on condition of anonymity.
"Pushpender is a good shooter and I have known him for a long time. What I have been told is that he has undergone a major surgery. He is around 28-30 years old. Usually what happens is that the pressure gauge indicator on the air weapon's cylinder starts malfunctioning, giving incorrect reading. It leads to overfilling of the cylinder, which causes it to burst," he added.&nbsp;

Apart from Women's 25m Pistol event, the Skeet Men's and Women's stage 2 will also take place simultaneously. While the men really didn't have a great Stage 1, Ganemat Sekhon in the women's event is in contention for a medal. Ashi Chouksey, Manini Kaushik and Sift Kaur Samra will also take part in the Women's 50m Rifle 3 Positions event.

Rajeshwari Kumari becomes the second trap shooter after Shagun Chowdhary to ever earn an Olympic quota in women's trap by finishing fifth in the ISSF World Championship on Thursday.

Shotgun shooting runs in her family, and trap exponent Rajeshwari Kumari showed why she is among the best in the country when she earned a seventh 2024 Paris Olympic quota place by finishing fifth in the ISSF World Championship here on Thursday.
The 31-year-old, daughter of legendary shotgun shooter and one of the top sports administrators the country has produced, Randhir Singh, made it to the finals in an extremely tough field but bad luck forced her to miss out on a medal.
Rajeshwari also became the second trap shooter after Shagun Chowdhary to ever earn an Olympic quota in women's trap.
In a heartbreak for the shooter, she could score only 19 out of 30 shots in the final.
Despite the below-par score in the finals, Rajeshwari was elated at having clinched the Olympic quota.
"I am feeling great. It's unbelievable. It's finally done. It's done for the country. I mean I wish I could win a medal but this is great. Paris&hellip;," said Rajeshwari after the final.
The daughter of Randhir -- the first Indian marksman to win a gold medal in the Asian Games (1978, Bangkok) -- was outstanding in all five rounds of qualification -- two on Wednesday and three on Thursday -- and went into the finals placed third with a cumulative score of 120 out of a maximum 125.
The 120 she shot in the qualification round also bettered her national record score of 118.
Rajeshwari had three superb series of 24, 25, 24 before she hit a rough patch and scored 22. But she managed to notch a perfect 25 in the fifth and last qualification round to make the six-shooter finals.

The other two Indians in the fray, Manisha Keer (115) and Preeti Rajak (109), were 23rd and 58th respectively in the qualification.
China's Chun Yi Lin won the gold medal with a score of 40 out of 50 shots, while Italy's Jessica Rossi settled for silver with a score of 39. Germany's Kathrin Murche 28/40 took the bronze.
The Indian women's trap team comprising Rajeshwari, Manisha and Preeti finished fifth with an aggregate of 344.
The gold went to Italy with a score of 354, while the silver and bronze were bagged by Australia (353) and China (349) respectively.
In men's trap, Prithviraj Tondaiman finished 23rd with a score of 121, while Olympian Kynan Chenai was 51st with 119 and Zoravar Sandhu 70th with 117. The trio was 11th in the team competition.
India has now won four Paris Olympic quota places at the Worlds here, with Mehuli Ghosh in the women's 10m air rifle, Akhil Sheoran in the men's 50m Rifle 3-Positions and young Sift Kaur Samra in women's 50m rifle three-positions event being the other three.
Overall, India has so far won seven Paris quota places. Bhowneesh Mendiratta (men's trap), Rudrankksh Balasaheb Patil (men's 10m air rifle) and Swapnil Kusale (men's 50m rifle 3 positions) are the other three Indians to have secured the 2024 Olympic quota places at last year's ISSF World Championship.
India also won a bronze medal in the team competition of men's 25m centre-fire pistol with Rajendra Bagul, Akshay Jain and Gaurav Chaudhary shooting a combined 1,718 to finish behind Germany (1743) and Korea (1731).

In the women's 25m standard pistol, while none among Tiyana (11th with 538), Yashita Shokeen (12th with 536) and Kritika Sharma (14th with 527) could win individually, they did bag the team bronze with a combined score of 1601. China won gold and the host nation got silver.
Meanwhile, Rajeshwari Kumari shot the second-best score of 73 on day one of the women's trap qualifiers and was placed fourth.
London Olympic champion Jessica Rossi of Italy was leading the 75-strong field with a perfect score of 75. Rajeshwari and the others come back on Thursday to shoot two more rounds of qualification, before the top six make the finals, which follow on the same day.
Rajeshwari missed just two targets in the Olympic event, with rounds of 24, 25 and 24 respectively.
Compatriots Manisha Keer and Preeti Rajak shot scores of 68 and 67 to end the day in 24th and 41st spots respectively. The trio was also in bronze medal contention in the team event with a combined effort of 208 thus far. Italy and Australia were ahead of them in the team competition.
The men's and women's individual trap shooting competitions will hand the final eight (four in each event) Paris 2024 Olympic quota places from this tournament.
In the men's trap, both Prithviraj Tondaiman and Olympian Kynan Chenai shot scores of 72 each. Zoravar Singh Sandhu, the third Indian in the field shot a 68, after shooting a perfect 25 in the opening round.

A 17-year-old student shot and wounded two administrators at his Denver high school on Wednesday as they searched him for weapons, a daily requirement because of the boy&rsquo;s behavioural issues, authorities said.
The student fled and his vehicle was later found in a remote mountain area about 50 miles (80 kilometres) southwest of Denver, but he remained at large.
The gun was not immediately recovered, official said.
A shelter in place order was issued by authorities around the small town of Bailey, in Park County.
The shooting occurred at a school shaken by frequent lockdowns and violence, including the killing of a classmate that prompted East High School students to march on the Colorado Capitol earlier this month.
Parents who converged on the 2,500-student campus on Wednesday faulted officials for not doing enough to protect their children.
Amid the flurry of criticism over lax security, Denver school officials said after the shooting that they would once again put armed officers into the city&rsquo;s public high schools.

Shots were fired inside a building used by Jehovah's Witnesses in the northern German city of Hamburg on Thursday evening, and several people were killed or wounded, police said.
The shooting took place in the Gross Borstel district, a few kilometers north of the downtown area of Germany's second-biggest city.

He said he had no information on the severity of the injuries suffered by the wounded.
The scene of the shooting was the Jehovah's Witnesses' Kingdom Hall, a modern and boxy three-story building next door to an auto repair shop.
Vehren said police were alerted to the shooting about 9.15 pm local time and were on the scene quickly.
He said that after officers arrived and found people with apparent gunshot wounds on the ground floor, they heard a shot from an upper floor and found a fatally wounded person upstairs who may have been a shooter. He said police did not have to use their firearms.
Vehren said there was no indication that a shooter was on the run and that it appeared likely that the perpetrator was either in the building or among the dead.
