In a fresh boost for investigators in the Shraddha Walkar murder case, blood samples found at the flat of Aaftab Poonawala have reportedly been found to belong to the victim.
This was confirmed by a central forensic lab report, according to sources quoted by Hindustan Times.
This is the second breakthrough for police in the case. On 15 December 2022, Delhi police said that bone samples found in a forest had matched Shraddha's father's DNA.
The blood sample report is admissible as evidence in court, the HT report said.
Meanwhile, a day earlier, accused Aaftab Poonawala withdrew his bail application in court, citing miscommunication with the lawyer. Poonawala will reportedly seek bail once police file the chargesheet in the case.

The superintendent had briefed Aaftab about visitation and phone usage rules in the jail, but the alleged murderer said that he does not wish to meet or talk to anyone, a report in the Hindustan Times said.

But first the prisoner has to submit the names of the visitors for verification. Poonawala has not given any names yet.

"An inquiry should also be conducted against the police officials of Vasai and Nalasopara and Tulinj police (in Palghar district) for delayed the investigation on Shraddha's complaint. Had they acted immediately, my daughter would have been alive now," he said.
Shraddha Walkar had submitted a written complaint to Tulinj police in November 2020, in which she alleged: "Poonawala has been abusing me and beating me up. Today, he tried to kill me by suffocating me and he scares and blackmails me that he will kill me, cut me up in pieces and throw me anyway. It&rsquo;s been six months he has been hitting me. But I did not have the guts to go to police because he would threaten to kill me." The bones were sent to the Central Forensic Science Laboratory (CFSL) for examination.
Delhi Police sources told HT that the DNA results could either be a big breakthrough in the case, or a setback, and investigators have their "fingers crossed".
If the bone samples do not match Shraddha's DNA, then police will have only circumstantial evidence, not hard proof, against Aaftab.

Meanwhile, Delhi police said that they have arrested 2 persons for attacking the van carrying Aaftab. The two alleged attackers were identified as Kuldeep Thakur and Nigam Gujjar, and they claimed to be part of an outfit called the Hindu Sena.

In November 2020, Shraddha had written to Palghar police, claiming that Aaftab had tried to kill her, and she also feared that he would cut her into pieces. She also wrote that he used to beat her up, and his parents knew about this.
Devendra Fadnavis said that the letter is "very serious", and "such incidents happen when action is not taken on complaints".
