"Shubman batted well, wicket was good. They got 20-25 extra. We were positive after the first-half. We have to credit Shubman. I hope he continues that form," he said.
Rohit said Suryakumar Yadav and Cameron Green raised some hopes with their partnership, but he felt MI lost the game in the powerplay while chasing.
"Greeny and Surya batted well but we lost our way. We wanted to give it a good crack, be positive. We couldn't get going in the powerplay. We wanted one batter, like Gujarat did, and take the game deep where anything can happen on a good pitch and a ground with a small boundary. But credit to GT, who played well," he said.
The MI captain said Ishan Kishan's concussion didn't help the team either in its tall chase.
"Kishan's concussion was unexpected. It was a last-minute change. We had to adapt, to different conditions and situations. Not looking at that though," he said.
He preferred to take positives from the campaign despite failing to qualify for the final.
"Playing this game, qualifying and coming this far is big, the batting has been a big positive we can take into the next season. All the bowling teams have been challenged.
"We had a great performance last game. Tim's (David) been given a role this season," he said.
Winning captain Hardik Pandya said the clarity of thought in Gill's batting is helping him pile on the runs.
"I think the clarity and confidence he is carrying is amazing. Today's innings was one of the finest, he never looked rushed. It felt like someone was throwing balls and he was hitting. He will be a superstar in international and franchise cricket," said Hardik.

I have worked on a few areas and made technical changes ahead of the NZ series after the T20 World Cup," he said. Asked how he deals with the expectations, Gill said: "Expectations are something that follow you outside the ropes, but once you step on the field it is all about trying how to contribute for the team." Gill said starting well is the key for him to score big.
"For me, it is playing ball to ball, over to over. The over where I hit three sixes gave me the momentum to go big. That's when I realised it could be my day. "It was a good wicket to bat on as well. Not a conscious decision, you keep inventing as a batter but for me the belief is more important. I am coming off a good international season as well. Had a good season last time as well. When I start well, I feel confident I can score well," he added.

Indian batter KL Rahul will be missing the fifth rescheduled Test match against England in Birmingham as he is unlikely to recover from an injury he suffered this month.
Rahul was named as Captain of Team India in the T20I series against South Africa in the absence of Rohit Sharma. The 30-year-old batter suffered a groin injury on the eve of the 1st T20I in New Delhi.
A BCCI official told that Rahul has not recovered from his groin injury and will take some time to recover although he might appear in a fitness test during the weekend. Chances of recovery aren't looking bright.
The source added that Shubhman Gill or Cheteshwar Pujara may replace KL Rahul in the playing XI. "It was a 17-member squad and 16 will be going. So that's not a problem," said the BCCI official.
Notably, the fifth Test match of the 5 match Test series against England in which India took a 2-1 lead, had to be rescheduled due to the Covid-19 outbreak in the Indian camp last year and will now be played from 1-5 July.

Indian vice-captain is set to fly abroad for treatment on his recurring groin issue, will not be available for India's tour of England.

Indian vice-captain KL Rahul is unlikely to be available for any of India's matches during their tour of England. Rahul is set to miss the rescheduled Test as well as the limited-overs leg that ends on July 17. A recurring groin issue first ruled him out of the South Africa series where he was supposed to lead the side and now, he's expected to be sidelined for a longer period. According to a source in the BCCI, Rahul is likely to fly abroad for treatment, with Germany being his possible destination. Meanwhile, Shubhman Gill, who is part of the Indian squad, should replace KL Rahul in the playing XI for the England Test at Edgbaston Notably, the fifth Test match of the series against England in which India currently leads 2-1, had to be rescheduled due to the Covid-19 outbreak in the Indian camp last year and the game will now be played from July 1-5

After humiliating New Zealand in the T20 series with a 3-0 clean sweep, the focus is now shifted to red-ball cricket. India will host Kiwis for the two-match Test series, starting November 25. The first test will be played at Kanpur while Mumbai Wankhede’s stadium to host the second.
With big names missing, it could be a big opportunity for players who have been warming the benches. Rohit Sharma is rested for the series and if the cricket pundits have to be believed Mayank Agarwal would get a chance to open with KL Rahul.
Meanwhile, Shubman Gill could be drafted in the middle-order, replacing Virat Kohli at the number 4 spot.

Captain Rahane would retain his No 5 spot and would be followed by either KS Bharat or Wriddhiman Saha with Rishabh Pant, not in the mix. It would be interesting to see whether newly-appointed head coach Rahul Dravid would go with the experience of Saha or choose rookie Bharat behind the stumps.
With the home team preferring to play on turning tracks in the recent past, it won’t come as a surprise if India pick the spin trio of Ashwin, Axar and Jadeja.
The pace battery is likely to be led by Ishant Sharma with Mohammed Siraj as the second pacer.
