4,482 people aged 50 and older were included in the study conducted by the University of Exeter&nbsp;in the UK. The participants were given a questionnaire, twice a year, about negative changes in memory, energy, independence, motivation, and physical activities. When the researchers analysed the collected data, they found that the people who rated their sleep the worst felt older than their age.
The study concluded to indicate that a poor sleeping pattern doesn&rsquo;t just make you feel more negative about ageing, but it can also have real effects on your health.

The findings of the study are based upon the research done on 1,113 men and women attending the Federal University of Mato Grosso in Brazil. The paper also claimed that the students who showed depressive symptoms are four times more likely to not sleep properly compared to others. Out of the 1,113 students, over 500 of them also suffered from excessive daytime sleepiness (EDS). These students were almost twice as likely to have depression or experience moderate to high levels of stress.

The study also highlighted the difference of EDS and lack of sleep on male and female students with the reports concluding that it has a larger effect on women as compared to men.
Sleep disorder often leads to mental health issues and all of this pressure further dampens students&rsquo; academic performances. The study suggested universities and colleges promote good sleeping habits as it will help the students both academically and mentally.

The study published in the European Heart Journal,&nbsp;a journal of the European Society of Cardiology, said that the body has a 24-hour internal clock, called circadian rhythm, that helps regulate physical and mental functioning.
The study included 88,026 adults recruited between 2006 and 2010 with an average age of 61 years of whom, 58% were women. Data on sleep onset and waking up time was collected over seven days using a wrist-worn accelerometer. It was followed by a diagnosis of cardiovascular disease, which was defined as a heart attack, heart failure, chronic heart disease and stroke.

5 years later, a follow-up diagnosis was conducted in which 3.6% of the participants had developed cardiovascular&nbsp;diseases. It was also noted that this incidence of heart ailments was recorded to be higher for those who slept at midnight&nbsp;or later.

The study included 2000 middle-aged adults who were relatively healthy and well educated.&nbsp;Researchers observed the result of sleeping less than six hours for eight consecutive nights.
Soomi Lee, Assistant Professor at University of Florida and lead author of the paper said that as per the results, one night of sleep loss significantly impairs daily functioning. When observed further, by day three, mental and physical problems steadily peaked and by day six, participants reported that the severity of physical symptoms was at its worst. There was reportedly, a pile-up of anger, nervousness, loneliness, irritability and frustrating feelings as a result of sleep loss. They also experienced more physical symptoms, such as upper respiratory issues, aches and gastrointestinal problems.
In order to avoid these, Lee said that&nbsp;the best way to maintain a strong daily performance is to set aside more than six hours to sleep every night.
