&lsquo;I had a chat with Babita Phogat before this interview. Do you think a world-famous wrestler like Babita Phogat will support those who exploited others &amp; especially her family members?&rsquo; Irani asked the anchor.
She also called out the wrestlers who had stated on Tuesday that they would immerse their medals into the Ganga river at 6 PM and didn't do it till 8 pm.
The wrestlers have been demanding the arrest of ex-WFI chief Brijbhushan Singh. On their demands, Irani said, &lsquo;Those who are aware of laws know that the legal procedure is going on. If there is an intervention now, then it will go against those women.&rsquo;
FIRs have been filed against Brijbhushan by the Delhi Police on April 28. A month later, the probe into the sexual allegations is still on.
Irani also mentioned calls by opposition leaders over the ongoing investigation saying, &lsquo;I want to know why the opposition leaders want to deprive these wrestlers of the fair and impartial probe.&rsquo; Babita Phogat had played the role of a mediator between the government and the grapplers during the first leg of wrestlers' protests in January this year. However, she has not been a part of the protests since April.

Former actor-politician Smriti Irani has opened up on how she was asked to continue work a day after her miscarriage. She said that a co-star also told her show producer Ekta Kapoor that she might be lying about the miscarriage.&nbsp;
In an interview with Neelesh Misra on The Slow Interview, Smriti said she learnt a lesson on humanity during her miscarriage. She said that she was also shooting for TV series &lsquo;Ramayan&rsquo; at that time. She shared how it would've been easy to move the schedule of 'Kyunki..&rsquo;, with 50 characters in the show, but it would have been difficult in the case of director Ravi Chopra&rsquo;s 'Ramayan'. However, she couldn&rsquo;t get an off from the makers of daily soap but Ravi Chopra considered her situation.
Smriti said, &lsquo;I was not aware that I am pregnant. I was on the set (of Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi) and I told them I am not well enough to shoot and asked to be allowed to go home. But still, I worked, and by the time they let me go, it was evening already. The doctor suggested I go for a sonography. On my way, I started bleeding, and I remember it was raining. I stopped an auto and asked the driver to take me to the hospital. I reached the hospital, a nurse came running to ask for an autograph, while I was bleeding. I gave her the autograph, and asked her, &lsquo;Admit kar loge, I think I am miscarrying.'
Smriti also shared that she was called to work the next day from the production team of &lsquo;Kyunki..&rsquo; She went on to share that she was working two shifts a day at that time.&nbsp;
Talking about her discussion with Ravi Chopra, she said, &lsquo;I requested him if I can come at 8 am for the 7 am shift. I will have to go home once after getting discharged from the hospital. The next day, I took all my medical papers to Ekta to tell her it is not a drama. She got uncomfortable and told me not to show the papers. I told her, &lsquo;Foetus bacha nahi, warna woh bhi dikha deti (I would have shown you the foetus also had it been there).&rsquo;

Police here have registered a case against Congress leader Ajay Rai for his "latka-jhatka" remark against Union minister Smriti Irani, an official said on Tuesday.
The Uttar Pradesh Congress leader on Monday took a jibe at Irani here, saying she only comes to her constituency Amethi to show "latkas" and "jhatkas", an unflattering reference to dance moves that provoked a sharp response from the BJP.
Station House Officer of Roberstganj Police Station, Balmukund Mishra, told PTI, "A case has been registered against Ajay Rai on the complaint lodged by BJP's mahila morcha head of Sonbhdra Pushpa Singh at the Robertsganj Police Station." The case has been registered under sections 354(A) (sexual harassment and punishment for sexual harassment), 501 (printing or engraving matter known to be defamatory), and 509 (word, gesture or act intended to insult the modesty of a woman) of the Indian Penal Code.

Asked if Gandhi will contest the 2024 Lok Sabha elections from Amethi, Rai had told reporters, "It has been the seat of the Gandhi family. Rahul ji has been the Lok Sabha MP from there. So has been Rajiv (Gandhi) ji and Sanjay (Gandhi) ji, and they have served it." "Most of the factories in Amethi are on the verge of closure. Half of the factories in Jagdishpur industrial area are lying shut. Smriti Irani only comes, shows 'latka-jhatka', and leaves," Rai, who is a regional chief of the party had said.
Currently, Amethi is represented in Lok Sabha by Union Minister for Women and Child Development Irani.
Responding to the statement, Irani said Rahul Gandhi and his mother Sonia Gandhi needed a new scriptwriter.
"You and Mummy ji need to get your mysoginistic (misogynist) goons a new speechwriter,&rdquo; the Union Minister for Women and Child Development had said.

In the 2019 Lok Sabha elections, BJP leader Smriti Irani had unseated Rahul Gandhi from Amethi in Uttar Pradesh. Gandhi had also contested from Wayanad in Kerala, and now represents the southern constituency in the Parliament.

The Delhi High Court on Friday issued summons to Congress leaders Jairam Ramesh, Pawan Khera, and Netta D'Souza on a civil defamation suit filed by BJP leader Smriti Irani, and asked them to take down tweets and other social media posts on allegations levelled against the minister and her daughter. 

Irani, the Minister for Women and Child Development, has sought damages of over Rs 2 crore from the Congress leaders for allegedly making baseless and false allegations against her and her daughter.&nbsp;

The Delhi High Court on Friday issued summons to Congress leaders Jairam Ramesh, Pawan Khera and Netta D'Souza on a civil defamation suit filed by BJP leader Smriti Irani, and asked them to take down tweets and other social media posts on allegations levelled against the minister and her daughter.
Irani, the Minister for Women and Child Development, has sought damages of over Rs 2 crore from the Congress leaders for allegedly making baseless and false allegations against her and her daughter.
The court said in case the defendants fail to comply with its directions to remove tweets, retweets, posts, videos and photos from social media in relation to the allegations made against Irani, and her daughter within 24 hours, social media platforms Twitter, Facebook and YouTube shall take down the material.
Irani's action came after the Congress leaders alleged that her 18-year-old daughter Zoish Irani ran a bar illegally in Goa and also targeted the minister over this, demanding that Prime Minister Narendra Modi sack her from his Cabinet.
The high court said "slanderous and bogus" allegations were made against Irani and added that, "Plaintiff has made out a prima facie case and balance of convenience lies in favour of the plaintiff and against the defendants".
"I am of the prima facie view that slanderous allegations were made against the plaintiff without verifying actual facts. Grave injury has been caused to the reputation of the plaintiff in view of the tweets and retweets carried out due to the press conference of the defendants, " the judge said.
The judge further said, "I deem it proper to pass an interim injunction directing defendants 1-3 (Congress leaders) to delete and remove the allegations made during the press conference from all social media platforms including YouTube, Facebook, Instagram and Twitter." They are also directed to remove the post, videos, tweets, retweets, morphed pictures of plaintiff and her daughter along with the allegations and stop their recirculation, the court said.
The matter is now listed for further hearing before the court and registrar on November 15 and August 18, respectively.
During the hearing, Irani's counsel submitted that she is a respected citizen of the country and the three Congress leaders with pre-planned conspiracy of defaming and maligning the reputation of the BJP leader organised the press conference on July 23 and made allegations without any substance.
"Not only an individual but the whole society suffers. It becomes worse when you use children to settle political scores. You comment on character. These are supposedly the responsible functionaries of a party and they are holding press conference for this purpose. Don't make statements against the plaintiff's daughter to settle your scores with her," senior advocate N K Kaul, representing Irani, contended.
Irani approached the court after the Congress leaders failed to respond to the legal notice sent to them by her.
The Congress on July 23 had demanded Irani's sacking, alleging her daughter was running an illegal bar in Goa, but the minister had claimed the "malicious" charge was made at the behest of Gandhi family due to her vocal stand in the National Herald linked money laundering case and vowed to fight back.&nbsp;

Then, the chief development officer (CDO) of Amethi Ankur Lathar took the phone, and asked the lekhpal to meet him at his office. The lekhpal is being probed for laxity, and not discharging his duties.

Irani's action came a day after the Congress leaders alleged that her 18-year-old daughter Zoish Irani ran a bar illegally in Goa and also targeted the minister over this, demanding that Prime Minister Narendra Modi sack her from his Cabinet.
If they do not tender an unconditional and unequivocal apology and withdraw their allegations, Irani will initiate civil and criminal proceedings against them, the legal notice said.
The notice has also been sent to 'Mahila' Congress leader Netta D'Souza and the Congress party.
"The false allegations were intended to hurt the reputation of our client as a minister and a person in public life, and also to outrage her modesty and that of her daughter," the notice said.
The Congress leaders stooped to a new low, morally and ethically, by attacking Irani's young daughter who is in her first year at university and at the threshold of a new chapter of her life pursuing her professional aspirations, the notice sent by Irani said.

"These aspirations of our client's (Irani) daughter are sought to be cruelly marred, jeopardised and prejudiced by the addressees (Congress leaders) through their inhumane, insensitive and false narratives as collateral damage," it said.
"The insistence of addressees to invoke value systems of our client with a reference to her 'sanskar' is an effort to make our client and her young daughter social outcasts by proclaiming that by the act of 'running' a bar our client and her young daughter are women of disrepute," it said.
Zoish Irani has never applied for any licence for "running" any bar or for any business enterprise, it said, asserting that she has not been served with any show cause notice from the excise department in Goa as alleged by the Congress leaders.
"These allegations are sought to be sensationalised and magnified by a series of innuendos and suggestive statements which not only hurt our client and her daughter's reputation but are equally an attempt at outraging their modesty," it claimed.
These allegations have been made with the knowledge of their falsity or at least in careless disregard of the truth, it said.

The incident had taken place on Monday when workers of the Congress and NCP, which share power with the Shiv Sena in Maharashtra, staged protests against price rise outside a luxury hotel and the Bal Gandharva auditorium, where Irani attended events during her visit to Pune city.
"An offence was registered on late Monday night. We have booked three BJP workers under Indian Penal Code Sections 354 (assault or criminal force to woman with intent to outrage her modesty), 323 (punishment for voluntarily causing hurt) and other relevant sections," Deccan Gymkhana police station's senior inspector Murlidhar Karpe said.
As per the FIR, the woman NCP functionary and three other party members had gone to the auditorium to give a memorandum to Irani over the rising inflation and LPG price hike issue.
The NCP woman member in her police complaint later alleged that she and other party functionaries were assaulted and heckled by BJP workers.
Following the face-off, a video showed the police present at the venue escorting four NCP women members out of the auditorium.

 Union minister Smriti Irani accused the Congress party, which is in power in Punjab, of trying to harm the Prime Minister. Addressing a press conference, the BJP leader said, "We know Congress hates Modi, today they tried to harm the PM of India." She alleged that the administration "knowingly constructed a scenario where the PM will be brought to harm".

Some 'peaceful'&nbsp;protestors converged on the street and PM Modi's convoy was stopped far away from them, said the Chief Minister.
 Channi said that PM Modi had the option of using some other route, but decided to cancel the rest of his trip. He went on to say that he won't fire bullets or rain sticks on people of the state.
 The Prime Minister had planned to visit the border state to lay foundation stone of projects worth Rs 42,750 crore. These included the Delhi-Amritsar-Katra highway, four-laning of the Amritsar-Una highway, a new rail line connecting Mukerian and Talwara towns, a satellite centre of Post-Graduate Institute of Medical Education and Research at Ferozepur, and medical colleges in Kapurthala and Hoshiarpur.
 Punjab is set to go to polls soon with the ruling Congress facing the Bharatiya Janata Party, the Aam Aadmi Party, and the Shiromani Akali Dal.
