Children who are physically punished, smacked or slapped show no improvement in attention, cognitive abilities or social competence but instead,&nbsp;exhibit higher&nbsp;aggression and antisocial behaviour.&nbsp;

An international expert panel led by University College London&nbsp;looked at 69 studies worldwide that followed children over time and analysed data on physical punishment, like slapping or smacking, and a range of different outcomes.

All&nbsp;the studies confirmed&nbsp;that physical punishment&nbsp;is ineffective and harmful and has no benefits for children and their families. In fact, it may even lead to&nbsp;behavioural problems such as aggression and antisocial behaviour, finds the team.&nbsp;Moreover,&nbsp;these detrimental outcomes from physical punishment occurred irrespective of the child&rsquo;s sex, ethnicity, or the overall parenting styles of the caregivers.&nbsp;
The team also noted that even today, 63 per cent of children between the ages of two and four, approximately 250 million children globally, are regularly subjected to physical punishment by their caregivers.&nbsp;
As per UNICEF data,&nbsp;children living in 73 countries do not have legal protection from this form of violence while at school, including India where corporal punishment is only partially&nbsp;prohibited.&nbsp;

The study, published in the scientific journal&nbsp;Evolutionary Psychology, claims that bullshitting, defined as&nbsp;communication characterised by an intent to be convincing without&nbsp;any&nbsp;concern for truth, may be a sign of intelligence.
Assessing over 1,000 participants&rsquo; ability to produce satisfying and seemingly accurate bullshit, the team found that people who were able to come up&nbsp;with&nbsp;seemingly accurate definitions of fake concepts also scored higher on cognitive tests.&nbsp;
The researchers concluded that this could be&nbsp;initial evidence for bullshit ability as an honest signal of intelligence.
While the paper says that&nbsp;the ability to&nbsp;bullshit may&nbsp;be&nbsp;helping some&nbsp;people navigate social systems,&nbsp;more research is needed to say whether&nbsp;a regular practice of&nbsp;bullshitting could make&nbsp;you&nbsp;smarter.&nbsp;
Another interesting&nbsp;finding&nbsp;from&nbsp;the study was that&nbsp;people who are good at bluffing don&rsquo;t actually engage in it very often. But those who&nbsp;bluffed&nbsp;away&nbsp;frequently&nbsp;were also more&nbsp;likely to fall for other people&rsquo;s baseless chatter.&nbsp;
