In separate incidents on Monday, two SpiceJet flights were diverted to alternate airports due to technical issues, ensuring the safety of all passengers and crew members on board.
The first incident occurred with a Delhi-Shillong SpiceJet flight, which experienced a mid-air technical glitch and was forced to divert to Patna. The aircraft safely landed at Patna&rsquo;s Jay Prakash Narayan International Airport at 8:52 am. According to Patna Airport Director Anchal Prakash, the emergency landing was prompted by a bird strike, but the aircraft landed without incident, and all passengers and crew were unharmed. &ldquo;Alternative arrangements are being made for the passengers,&rdquo; Prakash confirmed.
The second incident involved a Kochi-bound SpiceJet flight, which was carrying 117 passengers and crew. The private carrier made an emergency landing in Chennai after a technical issue was detected mid-flight. The SpiceJet Q400 aircraft, which had originally departed from Chennai, returned to the airport and landed safely. A SpiceJet spokesperson assured that safety measures were in place, and passengers were deplaned upon arrival.
In both cases, the airline emphasized the safety of the passengers and crew, with both aircraft landing without any injuries. The incidents highlight the airline's commitment to ensuring the well-being of everyone on board in the event of technical difficulties.

A SpiceJet staff member was arrested Thursday after she allegedly slapped a Central Industrial Security Force officer during an argument over security screening, police said while the airline called it a "serious case of sexual harassment." A CCTV video clip shows the CISF officer speaking to the woman. Suddenly, she moves two steps towards him and then delivers a slap on his face.
A woman constable then takes her aside.
While the police have registered a case of assault against Anuradha Rani on the basis of a complaint by Assistant Sub Inspector Giriraj Prasad, the airline too has approached the local police and said it is taking immediate legal action.
Officials said the woman was sent to judicial custody by a local court.
The SpiceJet statement claimed that their employee was subject to inappropriate language and the CISF officer even asked her to "come and meet him after his duty hours at his home".
Police initially said Rani worked as a food supervisor, however, the airline described her as a female security staff member.
"The woman has been arrested and her statement is being taken. The woman has also lodged a complaint. We are verifying the facts following which appropriate action will be taken," DCP Kavendra Singh said.
According to the CISF complaint, an argument took place when Rani was entering the airport along with other staff through the vehicle gate around 4:40 am.
She was stopped by the ASI for allegedly not having valid permission to use that gate, CISF officials said.
While she had a valid BCAS-issued airport entry pass, she was asked to wait for screening and frisking at the nearby entrance for airline crew as there was no female CISF personnel available at that time, they said.
She was not allowed to enter from the "vehicle gate", CISF officials added.
Local Jaipur airport police station SHO Ram Lal said the ASI then called a female colleague for the security check, but the argument escalated and the SpiceJet employee slapped him.
The airline said in its statement, "While escorting a catering vehicle at the steel gate, our female security staff member, who had a valid airport entry pass issued by the Bureau of Civil Aviation Security (BCAS), India's civil aviation security regulator, was subjected to inappropriate and unacceptable language by the CISF personnel, including asking her to come and meet him after his duty hours at his home." "We stand firmly by our employee and are committed to providing her with full support," the SpiceJet spokesperson said.
Asked about the charges of sexual harassment being levelled by the woman against the ASI, CISF officials said the allegation was an "afterthought" as they refused a mutual compromise and chose to file a complaint with the police.
The CISF officials said CCTV recording of the early morning incident shows that about six people, including a woman CISF personnel, were at the spot when the alleged argument and the slapping happened.
CISF officials said a thorough inquiry is being conducted into the incident after CCTV footage showed that the woman hit the uniformed official "despite no provocation".
A deputy inspector general (DIG)-rank officer of the CISF will also take stock of the situation at the ground on Friday.
The CISF provides a counter-terrorist security cover to the Jaipur airport apart from 67 other such civil aviation facilities in the country.
Police said a case has been registered against the SpiceJet employee under sections 121 (1) (voluntarily causing hurt to deter public servant from his duty) and 132 (assaulting public servant) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).

In an official statement, a SpiceJet spokesperson said that the flight was on schedule and that the air conditioning was working fine, but was &ldquo;inefficient&rdquo; at the time of boarding.
&ldquo;SpiceJet flight SG 476 from Delhi to Darbhanga on June 19, scheduled to depart at 11 am, departed on time without any delays. The air conditioning was working normally throughout the flight, which was verified and cross-checked upon arrival in Darbhanga. The same aircraft operated the return flight to Delhi, and there were no issues with the air conditioning on the return flight either,&rdquo; the airline said.

According to ET report, the decision aims to realign companywide costs with operational requirements, addressing the airline's 60 crore rupees salary bill.
Reports further says that SpiceJet has been delaying for several months, with many employees yet to receive their January pay. In an effort to stabilize its financial situation, the low-cost carrier is actively seeking a fund infusion of 2,200 crore rupees.

The carrier, which had been facing multiple headwinds in recent months, has so far received around Rs 1,000 crore under the ECLGS.
The latest instalment came recently after its Chairman and Managing Director Ajay Singh infused funds into the airline, according to an official in the know.
Singh, who has been helming the no-frills carrier, has so far put in Rs 200 crore out of the Rs 500 crore fund infusion that he had announced last year.

A note that crew members passed under the toilet door to calm the stuck passenger also went viral. The note read, "Sir, we tried our best to open the door. However, we could not open. Do not panic, we are landing in a few minutes. So please close the commode lid and sit on it and secure yourself. As soon as the main door is open, engineer will come. Do not panic."

In the viral video, the passenger is seen sitting on the commode lid in the cramped toilet. The man then gets up and tries to push the door open, but fails. He also recorded the door knob turning as crew members attempted a rescue from outside.&nbsp;
SpiceJet said, "On January 16, a passenger unfortunately got stuck inside the lavatory for about an hour on SpiceJet flight operating from Mumbai to Bengaluru, while the aircraft was airborne due to a malfunction in the door lock. Throughout the journey, our crew provided assistance and guidance to the passenger."

The incident occurred onboard the flight from Mumbai to Bengaluru on Tuesday, and the airline is providing a full refund to the passenger, according to a SpiceJet spokesperson.
"On 16 January, a passenger unfortunately got stuck inside the lavatory for about an hour on SpiceJet flight operating from Mumbai to Bengaluru, while the aircraft was airborne due to a malfunction in the door lock," said the statement.
Realising that a man was trapped inside, the crew made several attempts at opening the door from outside, but to no avail. The crew then decided to pass a note under the toilet door to calm the passenger who was in a state of shock.
"Sir, we tried our best to open the door. However, we could not open. Do not panic, we are landing in a few minutes. So please close the commode lid and sit on it and secure yourself. As soon as the main door is open, engineer will come. Do not panic," read the note, which has gone viral on social media.
Soon after landing at the Bengaluru airport, an engineer opened the lavatory door to the passenger's rescue.
"Throughout the journey, our crew provided assistance and guidance to the passenger. Upon arrival, an engineer opened the lavatory door, and the passenger received immediate medical support," the SpiceJet statement said.

Latest data from the Directorate General of Civil Aviation or DGCA shows that low cost carrier SpiceJet is at the receiving end of the most number of passenger complaints. In its report, DGCA said that flight problems and refunds were the primary causes of passenger complaints.
In December 2023, there were 0.52 complaints for every 10,000 passengers carried. The report also stated that 99 percent of the 721 complaints received by airlines have been resolved. SpiceJet received the highest number of complaints at 422, followed by Air India which received 68 and Indigo &nbsp;received 65. Meanwhile, in response to the challenges faced by passengers due to fog related disruptions, DGCA has directed airlines to publish accurate real-time information about flight delays. The aviation watchdog has issued Standard Operating Procedures &nbsp;urging airlines to sensitize staff at airports for effective communication with passengers.

Singh unveiled plans to initiate flights to Agatti Island, the region's only airfield, marking a significant shift from the current route through Kochi. This move is expected to enhance connectivity and streamline travel to Lakshadweep
The exclusive rights for Lakshadweep have been obtained under the Regional Connectivity Scheme (RCS). Singh expressed eagerness to launch these exclusive flights soon, providing travellers with a more direct and efficient option to reach the islands.
This development comes on the heels of a stakeholders' meeting, where the allocation of a substantial portion of the recently infused ₹2,250 crore funds was decided.&nbsp;
During the AGM, Singh highlighted the positive impact of the fund infusion, emphasizing its role in fortifying SpiceJet's position in the aviation industry. The additional funds are expected to revitalize grounded planes, contributing to a more robust and resilient airline.
Singh also disclosed plans to introduce flights connecting Ayodhya with multiple cities nationwide. This expansion is poised to enhance SpiceJet's reach further and offer new travel options to passengers. Airport Development in Lakshadweep The Indian government is actively progressing with the establishment of a new airport on Minicoy Island in Lakshadweep. This proposed airport, designed to serve dual purposes, seeks to bolster the surveillance capabilities of defence forces in the Arabian Sea while simultaneously promoting regional tourism, in alignment with government objectives.
The project entails the construction of an airfield capable of accommodating not only fighter jets and other military aircraft but also commercial planes. Previously submitted proposals for developing a new airfield on Minicoy Island are being revisited and presented to the government, aiming to facilitate joint military and civilian utilization.

SpiceJet announced on Tuesday that it has successfully completed the payment of ₹100 crore to Kalanithi Maran, the chairman of Sun Group, in compliance with the Delhi High Court's order related to the execution of an arbitral award.
On Monday, SpiceJet had presented a cheque worth ₹37.5 crore to Maran in the courtroom. However, his legal representatives declined the cheque and requested that SpiceJet make a bank transfer. Later, SpiceJet issued a statement confirming that it had made a payment of ₹77.5 crore to Kal Airways Private Limited and committed to settling the remaining amount on Tuesday.
On August 24, the Delhi High Court had instructed the airline to disburse ₹100 crore to Maran by September 10. SpiceJet had informed the court on Monday that it was unable to meet the payment deadline due to bank holidays on September 9 and 10.
SpiceJet's outstanding debt to Maran totals ₹397 crore, and the court is scheduled to address the remaining payment issues on October 3.
The arbitration award execution case had seen Maran's side argue that SpiceJet had willfully disobeyed orders and forfeited its right to be heard in court. They had also requested that the court seize the airline's entire profit of ₹204 crore, along with future profits, if the debt remained unpaid.
In response, SpiceJet contended that demanding immediate payment could potentially push the airline into insolvency, which would not be advantageous for the Maran family, as they would then become operational creditors. SpiceJet also cited various financial challenges, including regulatory restrictions on Boeing 737 Max aircraft, losses stemming from the COVID-19 pandemic, and elevated fuel prices due to the Ukraine conflict.
The Delhi High Court had previously upheld the arbitration award in its order dated July 31. The court directed SpiceJet and its owner, Ajay Singh, to reimburse ₹579 crore plus interest to Kalanithi Maran, who had transferred his shareholding to Singh in 2015 during SpiceJet's financial difficulties.
Singh had assumed SpiceJet's liabilities amounting to ₹1,500 crore as part of the agreement, and Maran subsequently approached the court, alleging non-issuance of convertible warrants and preference shares or return of the money. In 2018, an arbitration panel awarded Maran a refund of ₹579 crore plus interest, and in 2020, the high court ordered SpiceJet to deposit ₹243 crore as interest payment.

The low-cost airline's shareholders on Thursday had passed on various resolutions that includes raising Rs 25 billion funds and a preferential issue of shares to lessors to clear outstanding dues.&nbsp;
Two months back SpiceJet's top shareholder and managing director, Ajay Singh, said he would infuse 5 billion rupees into the company.
SpiceJet in February, converted around $100 million in dues to aircraft lessor Carlyle Aviation into equity and debentures. However, the airline still was involved in legal battles with other lessors over dues. Two weeks back, a court had ordered the airline to pay $12 million by Sept. 10 to former owner Kalanithi Maran over money owed.
SpiceJet has been looking to raise funds and restore operations to revive the fourth of its fleet. SpiceJet's market share has eroded to 4.2% as of July which is lower than that of new entrant Akasa, which only began commercial operations in August 2022.

Carlyle Aviation partner will acquire 5.91% stake of SpiceJet at Rs 48 per share, reported the Economic Times. As per the report, SpiceJet has sought shareholder approval to issue the stake.
The report also mentions that Carlyle which has the largest exposure among other lessors, will convert its dues of over $28 million to equity. The airline's shares have been valued at Rs 48 per equity share by the lessors, which is higher than the current price of the airline which is trading at Rs 29 at the stock exchange.

The company reportedly will issue 20% of equity shares to promoter Ajay Singh at Rs 10 per share against the infusion of Rs 500 crore that Singh is making into the company.&nbsp;
In a statement, SpiceJet said the fresh equity infusion by Singh, who is also the Chairman and Managing Director, will help the carrier in accessing additional credit facilities of Rs 206 crore under the Emergency Credit Line Guarantee Scheme (ECLGS).
Ajay Singh told Economic Times that the partnership with Carlyle would help SpiceJet to boost the airline's business.
"The transaction will substantially deleverage our balance sheet thereby allowing us to access fresh funds at a competitive rate and we aim to follow suit with other lessors as well in the near term&rdquo;, Singh told Economic Times.&nbsp;

The Delhi High court has observed that the fraud charges against SpiceJet Chairman and Managing Director Ajay Singh were serious in nature, while hearing the bail plea. The case pertains to the transfer of shares of the low-cost airlines to certain individuals.&nbsp;
"The allegations in the complaint seem to be serious in nature," observed Judge Dinesh Kumar. He further urged the parties to explore options for a settlement.&nbsp;

A Delhi based businessman and his family had alleged that they had signed a share purchase agreement with Singh and paid Rs 10 lakh for 10 lakh shares. However, Singh had failed to deliver the shares and had given them invalid and outdated delivery instruction slip (DIS).
The high court in April 2022, had given Ajay Singh interim relief against any coercive action by the police. Last month, a trial court rejected his anticipatory bail plea stating that it did not find sufficient grounds to grant relief to him in view of the overall facts and circumstances of the case and the gravity of the offence.
Meanwhile, the company shares have been hit and the prices have fallen 1.3% closing at Rs 29.68 after the court's observation.

SpiceJet said its promoter and Chairman Ajay Singh will infuse ₹500 crore into the airline, which will help boost its financial position as well as tap additional funds from a government scheme.
The budget carrier, which is facing multiple headwinds, including disputes with aircraft lessors, has been looking to raise funds.
In a statement, SpiceJet said the fresh equity infusion by Singh, who is also the Chairman and Managing Director, will help the carrier in accessing additional credit facilities of ₹206 crore under the Emergency Credit Line Guarantee Scheme (ECLGS).
During the meeting of the airline's board, which considered options for raising fresh capital, Singh offered to infuse ₹500 crore.
The board has agreed to "issue equity shares and/or convertible securities/equity share warrants on a preferential basis to the promoter and/or the promoter group of the company, on a preferential basis, in one or more tranches" for up to ₹500 crore.
"SpiceJet has a bright future and I am committed to helping it achieve its full potential. This investment will allow the airline to accelerate its growth plans and capture new opportunities in the market, grow its revenue and profits," Singh said.
The latest development also comes days after the Supreme Court declined to extend the time for making payment to media baron Kalanithi Maran and his Kal Airways in pursuance of an arbitral award of ₹578 crore related to a share-transfer dispute.
Meanwhile, aviation regulator DGCA has put the airline under "enhanced surveillance".
On Wednesday, shares of the airline rose 4.39% to close at ₹31.16 apiece on the BSE.
"The airline is already utilising USD 50 million ECLGS funds that it has already received and its own cash to revive its grounded aircraft. Two of the grounded aircraft, a Boeing 737 and a Q400, have been operationalised so far and more planes are expected to re-join the fleet soon," it said in the statement on Wednesday.
In February, SpiceJet had said that Carlyle Aviation Partners will acquire a 7.5% stake in the airline by converting outstanding dues as well as snap up shareholding in the cargo business, a move that will help it reduce debt by USD 100 million.
The carrier had also announced plans to tap the Qualified Institutional Buyer (QIB) route to raise up to ₹2,500 crore.&nbsp;

According to the statement, the capital raising is contingent to shareholder approval and receiving all necessary regulatory permissions.
In the meantime, the Supreme Court on Friday ordered the low-cost airline to pay former promoter Kalanithi Maran the entire arbitral sum of ₹380 crore in their legal dispute.
The struggling airline is experiencing a dire financial crisis and has suffered significant losses due to COVID-19.
SpiceJet's combined net loss for the first three-quarters of FY23 was ₹1,507 crore. Results for the fourth quarter have not yet been made public.&nbsp;
In FY19, it reported a combined net loss of ₹302 crore, followed by losses of ₹937 crore, ₹1,030 crore, and ₹1,744 crore in FY20, FY21, and FY22.

Delhi high court has ordered SpiceJet to pay Rs 380 crore to its former promoter Sun group's Kalanithi Maran. The court has also asked the airline to submit an affidavit of assets within four weeks.
Kalanithi Maran sued the airlines in 2017 and for allegedly causing losses by failing to issue convertible warrants and preference shares to him and his KAL Airways. SpiceJet had already paid Maran a principle amount of Rs 579.08 crore after the court fight. However, the interest amount was pending.&nbsp;
As per Mint, The interest stood at Rs 242 crore in October 2020, accumulated to Rs 362 crore by February 2023 and finally touched Rs 380 crore. A SpiceJet spokesperson also told Mint that the airline is confident of resolving the issue mutually as the principal amount is already paid.
This comes amid a battle with aircraft lessors over payments. Meanwhile, SpiceJet witnessed a four-fold increase in earnings to Rs 106.8 crore in the December quarter

SpiceJet stated that it aimed to have four of its grounded aircraft, two Boeing 737s and two Q400s, back in the air by June 15, the company said in a press release on Tuesday&nbsp;
The airline had previously declared that it will return 25 grounded aircraft to service by June 15.
By the end of June, the airline hopes to launch a number of flights, including two international UDAN flights on the Agartala-Chattogram-Agartala and Imphal-Mandalay-Imphal sectors. It also intends to relaunch UDAN flights from Jammu to Gwalior and from Kolkata to Gwalior as well as conduct a new UDAN route from Kolkata to Tezpur.
SpiceJet also announced that it had begun the process of recovering its grounded fleet using the $50 million it had received from the government's Emergency Credit Line Guarantee Scheme (ECLGS) and internal cash accruals.
Meanwhile, the airline has announced a sale on domestic one-way tickets starting at ₹1,818 on a few routes, including Bengaluru-Goa and Mumbai-Goa, on the occasion of its 18th anniversary.
Reservations for discounted prices are to be made between May 23 and May 28, 2023
The travel period for bookings under the offer is between July 1 and March 30, 2024, the company said.

Budget carrier SpiceJet on Monday said its subsidiary SpiceXpress and Logistics will receive USD 100 million investment from a UK-based group.

Also, last week, the airline said it has no plans to file for insolvency and would invest USD 50 million to revive 25 grounded planes. The United Kingdom-based SRAM &amp; MRAM Group will invest USD 100 million in SpiceXpress. Both sides have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) as part of the investment deal, the airline said in a release on Monday.
The MoU also comes after a debt restructuring agreement between the carrier and aircraft lessor Carlyle Aviation Partner wherein the latter bought a stake in SpiceXpress at an anticipated future valuation of USD 1.5 billion (Rs 12,422 crore).
SpiceJet Chairman and Managing Director Ajay Singh said the USD 100 million investment should help SpiceXpress to grow further and expand and provide a more streamlined and efficient service to its customers.
SRAM &amp; MRAM Group has interests in agricultural and agro-food products, neural networks, artificial intelligence, hedge fund management, hospitality services and solutions, media and publishing, among other areas.
So far this month, lessors have sought deregistration of five SpiceJet planes, a development that also comes against the backdrop of crisis-hit rival Go First shuttering operations and going for resolution proceedings under the insolvency law.
SpiceJet stock was trading at Rs 30.27, up 2.33 per cent on BSE.
