Though he was selected for the 2003-04 Australian tour, he never made it to the playing XI. At just 28, Ramesh&rsquo;s international career came to an abrupt halt, and he never returned to the national setup.
In total, he played 24 ODIs, amassing 646 runs at an average of 28.08, and in 19 Tests, he scored 1,367 runs, including two centuries. After a brief stint with Assam in the Ranji Trophy, he retired at 32.

K Subramaniam has defied 86 years of age to lap up four gold medals at the Asian Masters Athletics Meet in the Philippines.
In the event held last week, Subramaniam, better known as Subbu in the athletics fraternity, got the top podium spot in long jump, triple jump, high jump and javelin throw in the 85-plus category.
Subbu's life has been about athletics and he developed love for the sport as a teenager. He hails from Pollachi, a small town in Tamil Nadu.
Now well into his 80s, Subbu still takes athletics seriously. He trained extensively before travelling to the Philippines for the Asian Masters. Another testament of his undying passion was that he travelled for the competition all by himself.
Tamil Nadu Sports Minister Udhayanidhi Stalin duly acknowledged Subbu's feat in a post on social media earlier this week and the octogenarian is likely to be felicitated by the state government soon.
"My hearty congratulations to Chennai's K Subramaniam (86) for clinching FOUR Gold medals in the 22nd Asian Masters Athletics meet held at Tarlac, Philippines.

Ladakh is all set to host India's first-ever frozen lake marathon at the world-famous Pangong Tso Lake situated roughly at a height of 13,682 feet on February 20.
Adventure Sports Foundation of Ladakh (ASFL), have nicknamed the event &ldquo;The Last Run&rdquo;, highlighting how parts of the lake may be unfit for a race of this kind in years to come.
The Pangong Frozen lake marathon will be the first of its kind to ever take place across the globe at this altitude.
&ldquo;On 20th February Adventure Sports foundation of Ladakh (ASFL) in collaboration with Ladakh Autonomous Hill Development Council Leh and Ladakh Tourism Department is going to organise India&rsquo;s first 21 km long Pangong Frozen Lake Marathon. It would be an attempt to make a &nbsp;Guinness world record for the world&rsquo;s highest frozen lake marathon,&rdquo; Chief Executive Councilor LAHDC Leh Advocate Tashi Gyalson said.&nbsp;

On Wednesday, during a protest at Jantar Mantar, India's Olympic and CWG medallists levelled serious charges against the Wrestling Federation of India President &amp; coaches.
The likes of Vinesh Phogat &amp; Sakshi Malik among several others, alleged <a href="https://www.editorji.com/sports-news/others-sports/watch-startling-revelation-by-vinesh-phogat-and-sakshi-malik-rocked-indian-wrestling-arena-1674058634777">WFI President Brijbhushan Sharan Singh sexually harassed women wrestlers</a>. The wrestlers further alleged <a href="https://www.editorji.com/sports-news/others-sports/watch-will-not-compete-in-any-international-competition-until-wfi-president-is-removed-bajrang-punia-1674060790777">mismanagement of funds by the federation</a>.
Taking the allegations seriously, the Sports Ministry gave WFI 3 days to furnish a response, failing which the Ministry will initiate action against the federation.

Candidates submitting fake sports certificates to join government jobs has been a menace for long, but now a software has been developed to check the authenticity of these documents and bring transparency in the recruitment process.
The National Informatics Centre (NIC) has come up with an application that would verify the authenticity of sports certificates submitted by candidates at the time of applying for jobs in Maharashtra government departments.
"The software is in its final stage of testing and will go live soon," Om Prakash Bakoria, Maharashtra sports commissioner, told PTI.
There is a five per cent quota, for the candidates who have won at least state-level tournaments, in all departments of the Maharashtra government.
However, in March this year the then-Maharashtra sports minister Sunil Kedar had admitted in the state Assembly that several people had produced fake sports certificate to get government jobs.
At present, the process to verify genuineness of sports certificates submitted by government job aspirants under the five per cent quota is tedious and time-consuming.
Once a candidate applies for a government job via sports quota, he or she has to submit a proper certificate of his/her excellence. However, the number of recognised sports (to qualify for benefit under quota) by the government, its several tournaments held in various parts of Maharashtra or the country and their certificates – in itself is a huge data to process.
"There is no standard format of design, size or shape of the certificate issued by sports organisations. It is nearly impossible for the scrutiny officer to verify genuineness of such documents in a short period of time," said a senior official in the state sports commissionerate.
This is where the NIC software is going to be of big help to authorities involved in recruitment process.
"The NIC was brought in to fix the problem," Bakoria said, adding, "Certificates submitted by athletes will be uploaded on NIC's cloud storage platform called 'Meghraj'. Its current capacity of storing data is 70 GB and will be increased gradually as more certificates are digitised." "We are planning to go live with the new software on August 8. Once we go live, every new certificate will have a QR code. It can be scanned anywhere and by any officer to check its authenticity," he explained.
Job aspirants will be kept in the loop during the certificate verification process.
"When a candidate submits his sports certificate while applying for a government job, the department concerned, with the help of the software, will update the applicant with SMS from time to time about verification stages. When the certificate is accepted or declined by the software, it will be intimated immediately to the applicant," the sports commissioner said.
Asked about the size of data the sports commissionerate will be handling, Bakoria said, "In the last calendar year, as many as 19,000 certificates were issued. The number of certificates to be issued every year will vary and depend on how many sports tournaments have been organized in that year."

In order to tap India's sports market, Cricket Australia has signed a seven-year deal with Disney Star for broadcasting the country's cricket matches in India.
As per the deal, which will commence from the 2023-24 season, Disney Star will televise all international cricket matches played in Australia along with the KFC Big Bash League and Weber Women's Big Bash League in India.&nbsp;

Disney Star will take over the television rights from Sony Sports Network, which has been broadcasting the cricket matches since the 2017-18 season in India.&nbsp;
Recently, Disney Star bagged the TV broadcasting rights of the Indian Premier League for five years, which will start in 2023.

Two-time Olympic champion PV Sindhu won the bronze medal at Asian Badminton Championships 2022 in Manila, the Philippines on Saturday after losing a hard-fought match to the defending champion Akane Yamaguchi of Japan 21-13 19-21 16-21.

The game then went to a decider which the world champion Yamaguchi won. Earlier, Sindhu defeated Chinese shuttler He Bingjiao in the quarter-finals to guarantee a medal at the continental event.
Notably, this is the second Asian Championships medal for the former world champion. Sindhu had won the Asian Championships' bronze in the 2014 edition of the event in Gimcheon, South Korea.

Indian Olympian sprinter Dutee Chand revealed on Sunday that she had faced ragging by her seniors during her stay at a state-run sports hostel in Bhuvneshwar.
The Orissa-born sprinter recalled the incident on social media a day after a college student committed suicide after a round of ragging on Saturday.
Recounting the incident from 2006-07 at the sports hostel, the 26-year-old alleged her seniors claiming that seniors at Sports Hostel, Bhuvneshwar used to force her to massage their bodies and wash their clothes.
The Asian Games silver medalist further revealed that the seniors also made comments on her finances about which she made complaints to the hostel in charge but she never got their attention. "It used to take a mental toll on me. I was helpless at that time," said the 100-metre National champion. 
The authorities of the Sports Hostel, Bhubaneswar are yet to give a response to the Dutee's charges.

Indian Olympian Dutee Chand revealed on Sunday that she had faced ragging by her seniors during her stay at a state-run sports hostel in Bhubaneswar.
The Odisha-born sprinter recalled the incident on social media a day after a college student committed suicide due to ragging.
Recounting the incident from 2006-07 at the sports hostel, the 26-year-old alleged that her seniors at Sports Hostel in Bhubaneswar used to force her to &lsquo;massage their bodies and wash their clothes.&rsquo;
The Asian Games silver medalist further revealed that the seniors also made comments on her financial status about which she made complaints to the hostel-in-charge but nothing was ever done.
"It used to take a mental toll on me. I was helpless at that time," said the 100-metre National champion.
The authorities of the Sports Hostel in Bhubaneswar are yet to respond to the charges levelled by Dutee.
Dutee is a part of the Indian relay team for the upcoming Commonwealth Games, starting July 28.

Second-seed Spaniard Rafael Nadal reached the Wimbledon quarter-final after a straight-sets win over Dutchman Botic van de Zandschulp 6-4 6-2 7-6(6) in the round of 16 on Monday. 
The world No. 25 Dutchman posed a serious challenge in the first set giving no breaks through the first nine games but Nadal won the 10th game and win the set 6-4. The Spaniard easily won the second set 6-2.
After going down 2-5 in the third set, the 26-year-old made a brilliant comeback as he won three straight games to force a tiebreak. Nadal won the next game but van de Zandschulp again fought back to equalise. Nadal finished things off as he won the final set 7-6.
Having won Australian Open and French Open this year, the 22-Grand slam winner is eyeing his 3rd Major in a year and the third Wimbledon title of his career.
This was the 350th Grand Slam match for the 36-year-old and he joined Roger Federer and Novak Djokovic to achieve this feat. 
Nadal will face eleventh seed Taylor Fritz of the USA in the quarter-final.

After Pro Kabaddi League, the Indian Boxing League, and the UAE's upcoming T20 League, the sports arm of the billionaire conglomerate is looking at Ultimate Kho Kho.Adani Sportsline, has purchased the Gujarat franchise for the sport that is being promoted by backed by Dabur's Amit Burman.
"I am delighted to welcome the Adani Group and GMR onboard on our Ultimate Kho Kho journey," said Tenzing Niyogi, CEO of Ultimate Kho Kho. "This is certainly a strong step forward for Ultimate Kho Kho becoming a sports movement.
Along with Adani, south-based GMR group has also acquired rights for the franchise for Kho Kho for the state of Telangana. 
The league backed by the Kho Kho Federation of India, has signed Sony Pictures Networks India as its official broadcasting partner.

India's Youth Affairs and Sports Minister was seen trying his hand at various sports activities. Anurag Thakur was at the Savitribai Phule Pune University to inaugurate the Khashaba Jadhav Sports Complex.
He ran on a treadmill, and also participated in a shooting exercise. In his inaugural address, Thakur referred to the recent controversy of a senior government official in Delhi getting a stadium vacated just to walk his dog.
The IAS officer, Sanjeev Khirwar was transferred to Ladakh, and his wife to Arunachal. Thakur said, "In Delhi, an IAS officer and his wife took their dog to a stadium, asking players to stand outside. Delhi govt did nothing. Centre intervened and transferred them to distant places. It is these athletes who win medals for country. No one should interfere with it."

The undefeated German boxing champion, Musa Askan Yamak has died from a heart attack during a bout against Uganda boxer Hamza Wandera on Sunday in Munich.
Yamak was hit by a heavy blow from his opponent in the second round but he continued to fight. The tragic incident took place during the third round when he collapsed suddenly. The medical team rushed to the ring to save him but couldn't help the boxer and he died aged just 38.

Turkish-born Yamak turned professional in 2017 and gained fame after winning the WBFed International title in 2021.
