The 43-year-old, however, has coaching experience with Durham in English county cricket and Pakistan Super League team Islamabad United as assistant coach.
At SRH, Franklin will link up with his former teammate Daniel Vettori, who was appointed as the team's head coach after IPL 2023.
Earlier, they worked together at Middlesex in county cricket as well as at Birmingham Phoenix in the Hundred.
The 2016 champions will also have a new captain in Australian Pat Cummins.

Australia's World Cup-winning captain Pat Cummins will lead the Sunrisers Hyderabad in the upcoming Indian Premier League (IPL), the franchise announced on Monday.
The 30-year-old pacer was bought by SRH for a whopping Rs 20.50 crore in the IPL auction in December last year, making him the second-costliest player in the event's history.
Cummins replaced South African Aiden Markram, who led SRH in the 2023 season. The Sunrisers had a forgettable last seasion as they finished at the bottom of the table haing lost 10 of their 14 games.

"Our new captain Pat Cummins," the SRH said on social media platforms, along with a picture of Cummins.
The 30-year-old led Australia to the World Test Championship and ODI World Cup 2023 triumphs.&nbsp;
Cummins has earlier played for Kolkata Knight Riders and Delhi Daredevils in the IPL.&nbsp;
Interestingly, Cummins' first match as captain for SRH will be against his former side KKR at the Eden Gardens on March 23.

A Surat police officer told news agency PTI on Wednesday that the police investigating the suspected suicide of model Tania Singh will be sending cricketer Abhishek Sharma a notice. The preliminary investigation revealed the two were friends and that she had sent him a message on WhatsApp that was not answered.
"We have so far learnt this much that Abhishek Sharma was in friendship with the deceased model. More details will be known in the investigation," VR Malhotra, the Assistant Commissioner of Police said. "After verification, we may call the persons whose names come up during verification for recording their statements, if required."
A case of accidental death was registered at Vesu police station and further investigation is underway.
The left-handed batting all-rounder is currently with the Punjab state team's camp featuring in the ongoing Ranji Trophy 2024 tournament. Abhishek has been a crucial part of the Sunrisers Hyderabad team since 2019 and has made 44 appearances so far.&nbsp;

A total of 991 players signed up for the IPL 2023 mini-auction which is set to be held on December 23rd in Kochi.&nbsp; Out of 991, 714 are Indian players. Of the 14 overseas countries, 57 names are from Australia, 33&nbsp; from West Indies and 31 from England. Ben Stokes, Cameroon Green, Adil Rashid and Sam Curran have registered their name in the highest base price category of Rs 2 crores. Kane Williamson who was released by the Sunrisers Hyderabad has also registered in the same bracket alongside Nicholas Pooran, Rilee Rossouw &amp; Rassie Van der Dussan. No Indian player has registered in the highest base price category which has 21 names in total.&nbsp; Pat Cummins and Mitchell Starc were notable names that were not a part of the list. While Starc did not register, Cummins had earlier announced to miss the upcoming IPL.&nbsp;
