Rashid Khan's commitment towards all aspects of the game, including the willingness to put his body on the line, makes him one of the most sought-after players in T20 leagues across the globe, feels the legendary Sunil Gavaskar.
Needing 15 in the final over and two off the last ball, Gujarat Titans scripted a sensational last-ball win with the Afghan leg-spinner hitting an unbeaten 24 off 11 deliveries. He also took one wicket, giving away just 18 runs in his four overs.
"Yeah, he didn't hit the wickets like he usually does, but when he was needed with the bat he came and delivered," Gavaskar said on 'Star Sports Cricket Live'.
"This is the reason he's such a wanted player by franchises all around the world. They want him because they can see his commitment, batting, bowling and fielding," he said.
Apart from his batting and bowling, Rashid is an agile fielder who never shies away from attempting a risky dive.
"Look at the way he gives everything while he's fielding. Bowlers sometimes can be a little concerned about diving on their bowling shoulder, because if they dislocate their shoulder careers are under threat.
"Not with Rashid Khan, he just wants to give 100 per cent." Gavaskar compared Rashid to England Test skipper Ben Stokes, who has given this season's IPL a miss.
"There's another cricketer who is not playing in this IPL but who's again similar, is Ben Stokes. Anytime you see Ben Stokes batting, bowling or fielding he's 100 per cent, he gives it everything.
"And those are the cricketers that coaches and captains want, they might not always deliver but you know the percentage is not going to be anything less than 100 per cent," added Gavaskar.
The batting legend was also impressed by young skipper Shubman Gill, who fought a lonely battle for most of GT's innings before Rashid and Rahul Tewatia's cameos.
"I am very impressed with Shubman Gill because, again, he was not getting the kind of support that he would have wanted at the other end. You want somebody to be there to build a partnership. At the start of the innings, if you have a bit of a partnership, it eases quite a bit of your problems.
"He hasn't quite had that. That's why, having learned from the previous game, where he was trying to move around and lost his wicket, and then they weren't able to chase even 160, I think he knew that he had to stick around as much as possible, and that's what he did, till Chahal got him out with a very clever delivery.
"Anticipating that he was going to come down to the crease, he pulled it a little bit wide. But what a terrific innings from a young Shubman Gill."&nbsp;

The legendary batter welcomed the recent emphasis shown by the Indian cricket board to have more frontline players participating in domestic cricket.

Former India captain Sunil Gavaskar on Friday urged the BCCI to bring in the recently-launched incentive system for Tests into domestic cricket, saying it would encourage more players to participate and have lesser pull outs.
The BCCI announced its incentive policy right after the conclusion of the five-Test series against England while also naming its list of players who have been given contracts for the period of October 2023 to September 2024.
As per the announcement, those who play 75 per cent of India&rsquo;s Tests both home and away could earn Rs 60 lakh per match.
"I think what Rahul Dravid said, when it was announced in Dharamsala, that he would like to call it a reward," Gavaskar told the media in Mumbai on the sidelines an event to mark the completion of 25 years of The Champs Foundation.
"That is a wonderful thing by the BCCI to reward those who would be playing but I would also request the BCCI to ensure that the feeder to the Test team, which is the Ranji Trophy, that is also looked after.
'(If) the Ranji Trophy fees can be doubled or tripled, certainly there'll be a lot more people playing the Ranji Trophy, (and a) lot less pull outs from the Ranji Trophy, because if the fees of playing a Ranji Trophy match is a good fee there will be less people pulling out for various reasons.'
"They will all be wanting to play with the slab system &mdash; every 10 first-class matches you get that much more, so I would request the BCCI to look at that aspect as well." The legendary batter welcomed the recent emphasis shown by the Indian cricket board to have more frontline players participating in domestic cricket.
"It is something that everybody is aware of. It is something that should be looked up by every cricketer &mdash; domestic cricket is actually how they have come up. If they hadn't started at the domestic cricket level, be it the domestic T20, the domestic one-day tournament or the Ranji Trophy, they wouldn&rsquo;t be where they are," Gavaskar said.
"Very few cricketers (are there) who&rsquo;ve actually come up from not having played domestic cricket, they always have played some domestic cricket, it could be junior cricket or U-19 cricket or something like that. That has to be something that every cricketer must never forget." Gavaskar also urged the BCCI to have a look at the scheduling of the Ranji Trophy, which ran from a little over two months from January 5 to March 14 this year.
More importantly, the scheduling which had three-day breaks between most games was tough to deal with for the players.
It is something which India all-rounder Shardul Thakur and Tamil Nadu skipper R Sai Kishore also talked about, warning that players across the countries will start getting injured if the schedule is not changed.
"That&rsquo;s (a relook at the schedule) something that should be considered because you have to have a situation&hellip; In the three-day gap what happens is that there&rsquo;s probably a day in between in travel," Gavaskar said.
"During travel, there&rsquo;s no time to go to the physio and maybe take his help to get fit from a niggle. So, probably there should be a little bit of gap so that the player get adequate time," he added.
Gavaskar said Ranji Trophy should be played from October to mid December followed by the white-ball competitions.
"That way, everybody will be available to play except for the ones featuring for India. There will be no real excuse to pull out. With the one-dayers beginning from January, people who are in the IPL can have enough practice from then." Gavaskar also said Test cricket will continue to survive.
"Test cricket will definitely be around. You might not have a five-Test match series between every country, only two or three might play five-Tests. Any tour now will be a mix of Tests, T20Is and ODIs,"

An annoyed Sunil Gavaskar pleaded with those questioning the Indian team selection for the upcoming Asia Cup and asserted that this 17-man squad should form the nucleus of the 15-member World Cup side.
Leg-spinner Yuzvendra Chahal was a notable omission from the squad, leaving India with only one wrist spinner in Kuldeep Yadav. Axar Patel and Ravindra Jadeja are the other spin bowling options in the squad that was named on Monday.
Few also wondered why senior off-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin, who is also a very useful batter lower down the order, was not picked in the side.
"Yes, there are a few players who will believe that they are lucky. But the team is selected. So don't talk about Ashwin. Stop creating controversy. This is our team now.
"If you don't like it, don't watch the matches but stop saying that he should have been picked or another should be there, this is a wrong mindset," Gavaskar told 'Aaj Tak'.
Both Jadeja and Axar have also proved their batting abilities across formats and will add depth to India's line-up.
K L Rahul and Shreyas Iyer were also named in the team for the tournament beginning August 31 while highly-rated young batter Tilak Varma earned a maiden call-up to the one-day format.
Gavaskar believed the team selection was fair and expressed optimism ahead of the Asia Cup and the World Cup.
"Yes, absolutely (this team can win the World Cup). Who else would you have picked? I don't think any player can claim that there has been an injustice to him. The experienced and in-form players have been selected in the 17-member Asia Cup squad," Gavaskar said.
Gavaskar also backed the decision to pick Rahul, who has developed a new niggle and might not be available for the first match of the continental tournament against Pakistan on September 2.
"Let's see what his injury is like. Winning the Asia Cup is important but the goal is the World Cup. So if the team management wants KL Rahul in the World Cup squad then I think it's right that they have selected him for Asia Cup despite a niggle.
"As far as India are concerned, there are 11 days to go. That's enough time to recover from a niggle. And there are more matches as well, right till the middle of September. I think it will be fair to give KL Rahul (a chance) after all that he has done for India in the past, to give him the opportunity to recover," Gavaskar said.
Asked about the team's chances of winning the World Cup and Asia Cup, Gavaskar said it's a good side.
"The team that has been selected for the Asia Cup is a good team. We should have the 15 for the World Cup from this team only. When you play for India, every match is important. You should always strive to win every match.
"And Asia Cup is a big tournament. But winning the World Cup is totally different, that can't be replicated by an Asia Cup win. So you have to look at the bigger picture. If they win Asia Cup, very good but the goal is to win the World Cup," he said.

Don&rsquo;t forget that they have won the ICC T20 World Cup twice, and their players are matchwinners for the different franchises they play for in the IPL. Questioning the selection of Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma in Tests, the former India captain said, 'The&nbsp;runs scored by Rohit and Kohli against this West Indies attack begs the question what did the selectors learn that they didn&rsquo;t know already.'
In his column for Mid-Day, he further wrote that it would have been better to try out a few youngsters in whites. 'Is it that the selectors don&rsquo;t want any sort of challenge from the younger lot to the established players?' he asked.

During the Indian Express 'Idea Exchange' event, Gavaskar tore into Team India's captainship, highlighting how his sky-high expectations from Rohit Sharma have gone down the drain with India repeatedly underperforming at big tournaments under Rohit's leadership. Slamming the captain and coaching staff, Gavaskar said, 'I expected more from him. In India it is different but when you do well overseas that is the real test. there is where he has been a little disappointing, even in the T20 formats with all the experience of the IPL, hundreds of matches as a captain, with a mix of best IPL players not being able to get to the finals has been disappointing' He questioned the redressal system as well and said that Rahul Dravid and Rohit Sharma should have been asked about the decisions they took during the WTC final. He said the coaches should take more accountability for the team's performance. The former captain feels that the senior players take their places in the team for granted. Sunil Gavaskar opened up about his prompt decision to run up to MS Dhoni and get his autograph on his shirt.
During a chat with Star Sports, the former India captain revealed that when he got to know about Chennai Super Kings and MS Dhoni were going to take a lap of honour at Chepauk, he decided to create a special memory.
'That&rsquo;s why I ran towards MSD to take his autograph. It was his last home game at Chepauk,' Gavaskar added.
However, he clarified that Dhoni will get a chance to play in Chennai if CSK qualify for the playoffs. 'But I decided to make that moment special,' he revealed.
