A controversy erupted in Tamil Nadu on Tuesday over a district collector allegedly asking his subordinate to carry his shoes, an allegation that the official rejected outright.
Videos of Kallakurichi collector Sravan Kumar Jatavath, which purportedly showed him asking the duffedar to carry his shoes before entering a temple, went viral, drawing criticism from many persons.
Speaking to PTI, Jatavath insisted he never instructed his subrodinate to carry his shoes.
Ahead of the world-famous 'Koovagam' festival, celebrated by transgenders from across the country and elsewhere, Jatavath visited the Koovagam Kuthandavar Temple to take stock of the arrangements made for the event. Kallakurichi is located about 240 km from Chennai.
While entering the temple, the official removed his shoes and allegedly asked his assistant to carry the footwear elsewhere. This sparked a controversy after the video in this connection went viral.
Jatavath denied any wrongdoing on his part.
"I never instructed the duffedar to carry my shoes. In fact the video is edited and misinterpreted. Reporters who were present in the field know that it (the allegation) is not true. Someone who was not in the field (present there) has edited and misinterpreted the incident," he claimed.
With the video going viral, many on social media platforms criticised the official.&nbsp;

Woman suffers burns after husband throws acid on her in Tamil Nadu

A man allegedly threw acid on his wife at the district court complex suspecting her of being in an illicit relationship with another person, leaving the woman scarred.
Kavitha had reached the court premises to appear in a theft case, police said. She was arrested in August 2016 for stealing 10 sovereigns of gold chain from a bus passenger and the case was going on in the First Judicial Magistrate Court. She was out on bail.
She had allegedly developed an illicit relationship with one Prabhu and eloped with him a week ago, that left her husband and the couple's two daughters in dismay, police said.
Her husband Shivakumar, who came there anticipating her court appearance, splashed acid on her face from a water bottle he was carrying, police added.
Writhing in pain, Kavitha sustained serious burn injuries below the neck and ran for safety even as a woman lawyer standing nearby covered her upper body with a cloth. She was rushed to the government hospital where doctors stated she had already suffered 80 per cent burn injuries, police said.

A day after holding talks with Tamil Nadu government authorities over the brewing migrant workers issue in Chennai, the official delegation from Bihar visited knitwear hub Tirupur on Sunday to check on the safety of workers from the northern state after fake videos claiming attacks on the workforce had led to panic among them.
Led by Bihar Rural Development Secretary D Balamurugan, the four-member team expressed satisfaction over the steps taken by Tamil Nadu government and the Tirupur district administration to ensure safety and protection of the workers.
They discussed the issue with the officials including District Collector S Vineeth and Police Commissioner Praveen Kumar, representatives of textile industry and contractors who bring in workers from other states, Balamurugan said.
The delegation also interacted with the workers and told them not to believe in rumours and fake videos, after which they regained their confidence, as many of them considered the information coming from them to be true, the senior officer said.
