With Congress hoping to replicate its assembly election performance and BJP aiming to increase its tally of 4 seats from 2019, BRS is leaving no stone unturned to stop both national parties from expanding their base in the state.
On the campaign trail this week, editorji's Vikram Chandra caught up with BRS leader and former minister, KT Rama Rao on where does his party stand in the electoral fight where two national parties are challenging each other.

After the Telangana police filed a closure report into the death of PhD scholar Rohith Vemula, Director General of Police Ravi Gupta said that further investigations will be conducted.&nbsp;
The DGP said that that Vemula's family have expressed doubts over the manner in which the probe was carried out.&nbsp;
"As some doubts have been expressed by the mother and others of the deceased, Rohit Vemula, on the investigation conducted, it has been decided to conduct further investigation into the case. A petition will be filed in the court concerned requesting the Hon'ble Magistrate to permit further investigation into the case," the DGP's statement said.
The Telangana police in its closure report have claimed Vemula was not a Dalit and died by suicide in 2016 as he feared that his "real caste" would be discovered.
In a statement on Friday, DGP Ravi Gupta said the final report in the case was prepared in 2018 and that it was officially submitted in the jurisdictional court on March 21, 2024.

A BJP Lok Sabha candidate from Telangana has been heavily criticised after a video of her from an election rally, pretending to draw and fire an arrow near a mosque, surfaced.
Madhavai Latha is the party's candidate from the Hyderabad seat, which has been held by AIMIM chief Asaduddin Owaisi since 2004 and his father, Sultan Salahuddin Owaisi, since 1989.&nbsp;
In the purported video, Latha was seen standing on a moving vehicle, dressed in saffron attire at a rally and surrounded by a pool of people. She was seen wearing garlands and pretending to draw an arrow from an imaginary quiver on her back and firing the weapon. The video further shows a mosque in the direction she was firing the arrow in.&nbsp;
Slamming the video, Owaisi called the actiion of Latha at a Ram Navami rally "provocative".&nbsp;
"The people of Hyderabad have seen the BJP's intentions. They will not accept vulgar and provocative actions by the BJP and RSS (the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh, seen as the ruling party's ideological mentor)," he said. &nbsp;
"Is this the 'Viksit Bharat' that BJP is talking about?" he further added.&nbsp;
After the heavy criticism, the BJP leader shared a post on X giving a clarification about the video.&nbsp;
"It has come to my notice that a video of mine is being circulated in the media to create negativity. I would like to clarify that this is an incomplete video and if anyone's feelings are hurt due to such a video, I would like to apologise..." she wrote.&nbsp;
She also spoke to news agency PTI, claiming a "conspiracy against us (the BJP)... because we work well with both Hindu and Muslim brothers" and demanded "where did the mosque come from?"
"Yesterday, on the occasion of Ram Navami, I was gesturing shooting an (imaginary) arrow towards the sky. I released that arrow towards a building, that's it. Where did the mosque come from?" she said.&nbsp;

A school in Telangana was attacked by a mob after the principal allegedly questioned some students wearing saffron-coloured religious attire on the campus.
Indian Express, quoting police, reported that the students were observing &lsquo;Hanuman deeksha&rsquo;, a penance for 41 days.
The incident took place on April 16 at St Mother Teresa English Medium School in Kannepalli village.
A video of the incident that is going viral on social media showed saffron-clad men shouting Jai Shri slogans and vandalising the school properties.
Meanwhile, police filed two FIRs in the incident. Based on students' parent's complaints, the police filed a case against two school staff members, including the principal, for hurting religious sentiments and promoting enmity between different groups on grounds of religion.
In the other complaint by the school administration, four suspects and others were named for trespassing into the school, wrongfully restraining the school correspondent, physically assaulting him, and damaging windows of the classrooms. They said a statue of Mother Teresa and gates were damaged and claimed a loss of property worth Rs 30,000.&nbsp;
&ldquo;The exams were going on. After the exam, the principal told the students to come in uniform and that if they wanted to wear saffron clothes, they had to get permission. That triggered the parents. Previously also there were some complaints against the principal and it was there in the parents&rsquo; mind. It was a Tuesday and there was a temple nearby and all this escalated and led to vandalism,&rdquo; Mancherial Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) Ashok Kumar told Indian Express.

According to the Indian Express, officials suspect the two luxury watches were allegedly smuggled from Hong Kong via Singapore.
Chennai Customs officials acted on a tip-off and seized the watches from Mohammed Mubeen, a dealer of luxury watches, who returned from Singapore on February 5, The Indian Express reported quoting officials.
Harsha Reddy allegedly placed the purchase order with Mubeen through an intermediary. According to the report, hawala transactions and cryptocurrency were also involved in the purchase. The intermediary is said to have identified the watches as those purchased by Harsha Reddy.

Telangana's former intelligence bureau chief T Prabhakar Rao has been named the prime accused in connection with a phone tapping case.

The Hyderabad police have issued a lookout notice against former Telangana intelligence bureau chief T Prabhakar Rao as he has been named the prime accused in connection with a phone tapping case that has rocked Telangana.
Rao, who is believed to be in the United States, is alleged to have been responsible for tapping the phones of the opposition leaders during the erstwhile BRS government led by K Chandrashekar Rao.
Police have already arrested two additional superintendents of police in connection with the case and were sent to judicial custody on Sunday.
Apart from, Rao and lookout notices have also been issued against then deputy commissioner of police of Commissioner's Task Force (a wing of Hyderabad Police) P Radhakrishna and a senior executive of a Telugu TV channel.
The lookout circular was issued against them as they were not available for investigation in the case and were allegedly not cooperating, They are suspected to have gone abroad, a senior official told PTI news agency on Sunday.
The two additional superintendents of police were accused of colluding with suspended DSP of the SIB D Praneeth Rao, who was earlier arrested by Hyderabad police for allegedly erasing the intelligence information from various electronic gadgets as well as for alleged phone tapping during the previous BRS government.
"During questioning, the two police officials confessed to their involvement in the reported crimes, including conspiracy to monitor private persons illegally by developing their profiles, abusing their official positions; to cause disappearance of evidence by destroying public property to conceal their involvement in collusion with the already arrested D Praneeth Kumar alias Praneeth Rao, DSP (under suspension), and some other persons," the release said.
Further investigation is under progress, they said.
On March 13, Praneeth Rao, who is accused of developing profiles of unknown persons and monitoring them clandestinely, without authorisation and illegally, besides destroying certain computer systems and official data, was arrested, police earlier said.
Praneeth Rao was recently suspended by the Telangana government. He was a DSP during the previous BRS dispensation and was subsequently working in the office of the Director General of Police (DGP). He was earlier accused of tapping phones of opposition party leaders.
Based on a complaint filed by an additional superintendent of police of the SIB on March 10, a case was registered against Praneeth Rao and others at Panjagutta police station here on charges of criminal breach of trust by a public servant, causing disappearance of evidence, and criminal conspiracy and other sections of IPC, PDPP Act and IT Act-2000.
The case was registered against them for allegedly destroying certain computer systems and official data of the SIB, including those obtained by him clandestinely and illegally in collusion with others with an intention to make wrongful gain, the police had said.
They were also accused of developing profiles of some persons and monitoring them, causing disappearance of physical and electronic records of the SIB, and copying intelligence information into personal drives, police said.

A stranger broke into a woman's house in Nizampet, Telangana. The woman shared a video in which the intruder was seen sitting in her house. When the woman confronted the man, he jumped from the parapet and escaped.&nbsp;
The video shows the woman asking for an explanation from the intruder, to which, the man replies, "They are trying to kill me outside." The woman was heard asking the man his name. However, he does not answer her.&nbsp;
The man then proceeds to go out of her house, jumps down two floors from the parapet and flees from the building.
The stranger has not been identified yet.&nbsp;

Telangana chief minister Revanth Reddy referred to Prime Minister Narendra Modi as elder brother and sought his help in the state's development.

Noting that Prime Minister Narendra Modi is like an "elder brother" to the states, Telangana Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy on Monday made his intentions clear that he would not like to confront the Centre, but would maintain cordial relations.
Addressing a gathering on the occasion of the PM launching or laying the foundation for Rs 56,000 crore worth of projects, Reddy sought Modi's cooperation to develop Telangana on the lines of Gujarat.
Reddy said Telangana with capital Hyderabad, the fifth largest city in the country, would like to contribute to PM Modi's ambitious goal of making India a USD 5 trillion economy.
After a long time, a Chief Minister of Telangana received PM Modi and shared the dais with him during an official event.
BRS supremo and former CM K Chandrasekhar Rao had, on several occasions, skipped the PM's official visits to the state in the past.
"Narendra Modi ji, according to us, Prime Minister means like our elder brother. If there is support from the elder brother, only then can chief ministers take forward development works in their respective states," he said.
"That is why my request is, if Telangana has to be developed on the lines of Gujarat, your support is essential here," the Congress chief minister said.
Reddy said the state government will extend necessary operation and give necessary clearances to NTPC for completing the 4,000 MW power plant of which only 1,600 MW became operational.
He further said as per the Andhra Pradesh State Reorganisation Act, the Centre has to set up a 4,000 MW power plant in Telangana. However, due to the acts of the previous BRS government, only 1,600 MW was completed in the last 10 years.
He said the people will ultimately lose when there is friction between the Centre and the states. Politics should be limited to elections only and after the polls the elected leaders should thrive for the development of the state with the help of the Centre.
He said PM Modi responded positively when he met him seeking clearances for some issues.
Reddy sought Modi's cooperation to expand the semiconductor industry in the state besides Musi River development.&nbsp;

Telangana will now be abbreviated to TG and not TS in vehicle registration plates as well as in all official correspondence, the Revanth Reddy-led cabinet decided on Sunday, ahead of the budget session that begins on February 8. The government also decided to redesign the state emblem and adopt a new anthem.
In different decisions representing the aspirations of the Telangana agitation, the cabinet decided to change the state's official symbol in a way that it "reflects the people without any trace of monarchy," state Information and Public Relations Minister Ponguleti Srinivas Reddy said.
The Cabinet decided to adopt 'Jaya Jaya He Telangana', a popular song written by poet Ande Sri, as the official song.

He said the implementation of two more 'guarantees' would be announced by the Chief Minister on the floor of the house during the Assembly session.
Out of the six poll 'guarantees' announced by the Congress, the government had earlier initiated implementation of two promises -- free travel in state-run RTC buses for women and the health scheme of Rs 10 lakh to poor.
The Cabinet approved the government decision to conduct a 'caste census' in the state which was announced earlier.
The Cabinet also decided to revive the state-run Nizam Sugars Factory and to establish Kodangal Area Development Authority. Kodangal is the Assembly constituency represented by CM Revanth Reddy.

Newly elected BJP MLAs in Telangana boycotted the oath ceremony as it was being administered by pro-tem speaker Akbaruddin Owaisi whose appointment was finalised violating the Assembly rules, the party has alleged.
Owaisi was appointed as pro-tem Speaker though there were other senior members in the House, state BJP president G Kishan Reddy alleged.
"There is a tradition of a senior person being appointed as the pro-tem Speaker in the Assembly. The BJP opposes the appointment of AIMIM's Akbaruddin Owaisi as pro-tem Speaker as per an understanding (of Congress) with AIMIM," Reddy told reporters.
Observing that Congress has only a wafer-thin majority in the Assembly, he claimed that the government is faced with a situation of collapsing even for a small pretext. In view of this, the AIMIM member is made the pro-tem Speaker as per a plan, he alleged.
"Because of the violation of the legislative assembly's rules, we are opposing the appointment of the AIMIM person as the pro-tem Speaker. Therefore, our members are boycotting from taking oath with him in the chair," he said.
The Congress has begun its appeasement politics and violation of the traditions of legislative assembly just three days after assuming power, Reddy alleged.
He pointed out that the BJP has already claimed that there is a tacit understanding between Congress and AIMIM.
During the recent election campaign, it was alleged (by Congress) that the BJP and AIMIM were one.
Now, Telangana people should know on what criteria Owaisi has been made as pro-tem Speaker in violation of rules, Reddy said.
The true colours of Congress have come out again, he added.
The BJP would like the election of Speaker to be held after the appointment of a senior member as pro-tem Speaker. The party would take up the issue with the Governor, he said.
The BJP MLAs would take oath after the regular Speaker assumes office, Reddy said.

After AIMIM leader Akbaruddin Owaisi was appointed the pro-tem speaker for the first session of the newly-elected third Telangana State Legislative Assembly on Friday, three-time BJP MLA from Goshamahal, Raja Singh said he will not take oath if Owaisi presides over the oath-taking ceremony.
In a video message, Raja Singh called it &ldquo;unfortunate" and said the Congress' real face has come to the fore after it formed the government in Telangana.
&ldquo;After Congress formed the government and Revanth Reddy became the CM, Congress' real face has come to the fore. Every time Revanth Reddy used to make a statement that BJP AIMIM and BRS are one but the people of Telangana have known who is with whom...We will not take oath in front of such a person...We will boycott&hellip;," he told ANI

Former Telangana CM K Chandrashekar Rao fractured his left hip when he slip and fell in his bathroom at his home. In a statement, Yashoda Hospital, where Rao is admitted, said that the BRS chief would require left hip replacement.

Former Telangana CM K Chandrashekar Rao fractured his left hip when he slip and fell in his bathroom at his home. In a statement, Yashoda Hospital, where Rao is admitted, said that the BRS chief would require left hip replacement.

"Kalvakuntla Chandrashekhar Rao Garu had a slip and fall in his Bathroom at his Residence and was subsequently brought to Yashoda Hospital for further care. On evaluation, including CT scans he was found to have left Hip fracture [Extracapsular Neck of femur fracture). He would require left hip replacement for the same and the usual course of recovery for such cases is expected to be six to eight weeks," the hospital said in a statement.
"He is being constantly monitored by a multi-disciplinary team including Orthopaedic, Anaesthesia, General Medicine, and Pain Medicine. His general condition is stable. The hospital will update his health status periodically," it added.
Meanwhile, on the direction of Telangana CM Revanth Reddy, Secretary of Health Medical and Family Welfare visited Yashoda Hospital to inquire about the health of former CM K Chandrashekar Rao.
"During the transit of the former Chief Minister from his residence to the hospital, Police Department had ensured green channel for the movement of former Chief Minister," a release from the Congress said.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi prayed for his recovery while his daughter K Kavitha has said that the former Telangana CM sustained a minor injury.

Telangana Congress chief A Revanth Reddy will be the new chief minister of the state.
Announcing the decision at the party headquarters here on Tuesday, AICC general secretary K C Venugopal said the swearing-in will take place on December 7 in Hyderabad.
"After considering the report of observers and after discussion with senior leaders, the Congress president has decided to go with Revanth Reddy as the leader of the Congress Legislature Party (CLP) in Telangana," he said.
Revanth Reddy was the frontrunner for the top post in the state after the party staged a stupendous victory in assembly elections by winning 64 seats in Telangana, upstaging the BRS.
Venugopal said the Congress Legislature Party in Telangana had unanimously decided to authorise the Congress president to take a decision to appoint the CLP leader in its meeting earlier.
He said the party had appointed four observers including Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister D K Shivakumar, Deepa Dasmunshi, Ajoy Kumar and K J George, besides AICC general secretary in-charge Manikrao Thakre.
Shivakumar and Thakre were present as Venugopal announced the party high command's decision on Telangana.
He did not answer queries on how many ministers would be sworn in and whether there would be any deputy chief ministers.&nbsp;

If any of the two main parties fall short of the majority 60-seat mark, the saffron party and the political outfit based in Hyderabad could play the kingmaker. The following factors are likely affect the result.
1-Anti incumbency Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao is aiming for a hat-trick of electoral victories after winning the polls in 2014&mdash; in united Andhra Pradesh&mdash; and in Telangana in 2018.&nbsp;
Initially thought to be a one-sided fight, the Congress which had witnessed waning of its foot-hood in the state, has sprung a surprise and by the end of campaign is being seen as a serious contender. The ruling party won 88 seats in 2018 elections and is confident of victory this year. BRS named 115 out of 119 incumbent candidates in August to give a head-start to their campaigning. 3-Muslim Votes&nbsp;
Telangana's Muslim population holds the key for at least 45 of 119 assembly constituencies. The minority group has the potential to sway the election results either in favour of Congress or the BRS or bring it down to a neck to neck fight between the two.&nbsp;
While the Congress has been making an all-out effort to lure Muslims, but with Assad-ud-din Owaisi&rsquo;s AIMIM backing BRS, the possibility of Muslim vote getting divided remains.
The BJP has announced that it would remove the 4% reservation being given to Muslims, thus setting clear focus on the division of Hindu voters between the BRS, the Congress and the saffron group. &nbsp;
4-Corruption &amp; &lsquo;BJP-BRS BHAI BHAI&rsquo; The Congress has kept a focused attack to create a narrative that BRS and the BJP were hand in glove when it came to what it called rampant corruption. Political analysts feel that with KCR meeting Modi and the Congress narrative to claim bonhomie between the BRS and the BJP may hurt Rao&rsquo;s poll prospects.
The ruling party has faced accusations that it overlooked the TSPSC (Telangana State Public Service Commission) paper leak and rampant unemployment. With central agencies probing chief minister Rao&rsquo;s daughter, K Kavitha, in the allegedly Delhi excise scam case, the narrative of being a corrupt party has stuck. The Congress has claimed that Enforcement Directorate went soft on her as the two parties have reached a compromise.&nbsp;
5-Resurgent Congress The resounding victory of the Congress in the Karnataka Assembly polls has changed the political narrative for the grand old party in neighbouring Telangana.&nbsp;
Though it managed only 19 seats in the last elections, the Congress has become a clear challenger to the BRS this time round.
After successfully wooing the Karnataka voters with their 5 guarantees, Congress has promised 6 guarantees to Telangana. (GFX - Rythu Bharosa, Cheyutha, Yuva Vikasam, Gruha Jyoti, Mahalaxmi Guarantee, Indiramma Indlu) The promises on the lines of 'guarantees' being fulfilled in neighbouring Karnataka appear to prove advantageous.&nbsp;
6-Kamareddy &amp; Gajwel segment&nbsp;
KCR, who represents Gajwel in the assembly, is fighting the elections from two segments &ndash; Gajwel and Kamareddy&mdash; in 2023. &nbsp;Both constituencies are witnessing exciting contests. While Congress has fielded its state president Revanth Reddy to take on the chief minister in Kamareddy, BJP has fielded Katipally Venkata Ramana Reddy. The Congress has claimed that CM fighting from two seats is an admission of defeat before the fight began. &nbsp;

Telangana polls: BJP promises Uniform Civil Code in 6 months if voted to power

The manifesto said unconstitutional religion-based reservations will be abolished and that the reservations for OBCs, SCs and STs would be increased.

The BJP on Saturday said the Uniform Civil Code would be implemented in Telangana if the party came to power in the state in the November 30 Assembly elections.
Union Home Minister Amit Shah, who released BJP's manifesto for the Legislative Assembly polls, said a committee would be constituted on UCC.
"The BJP government to be formed would constitute a committee to bring UCC in Telangana which will implement Uniform Civil Code within six months," he told reporters.
The manifesto promised formation of a committee to draft a Uniform Civil Code to consolidate and harmonize various personal laws.
The manifesto said unconstitutional religion-based reservations will be abolished and that the reservations for OBCs, SCs and STs would be increased.
The BJP, on assuming power, would appoint a commission of enquiry headed by a retired Supreme Court judge to probe into all corruption allegations, including Kaleswaram and Dharani scams, and other financial irregularities committed by the incumbent BRS government, the manifesto said.
The manifesto also promised reducing Value Added Tax on petrol and diesel on par with the BJP-ruled states, besides providing four LPG cylinders at free of cost annually to Ujwala beneficiaries.
The manifesto said the existing Dharani, an integrated land administration portal brought in by the BRS government, would be replaced with a foolproof "mee Bhoomi" system.
Besides offering Rs 3,100 on paddy, the manifesto promised to provide Rs 2,500 as input assistance to small and marginal farmers to enable them to procure seeds and fertilizers.
Free laptops will be given to college girl students and a fixed deposit of Rs 2 lakh will be given to girl child at the time of birth which can be redeemed after attaining 21 years of age.
