A policeman was injured Wednesday evening when terrorists opened fire on a search party in a village in Gandoh area of Jammu and Kashmir&rsquo;s Doda district, officials said.
The firing was reported from the Kota top area of Bhalesa around 7.41 pm to which security forces retaliated, they said.
An intermittent exchange of fire between the two sides was going on when last reports were received. Reinforcements have been rushed to the area to strengthen the cordon, they added.
This was the second terror-related incident in Doda in the last 24 hours and fourth in three days in Jammu and Kashmir.
Earlier on Tuesday evening, five Rashtriya Rifles personnel and a Special Police Officer were injured in a terrorist attack in Chattargalla pass.
In another incident late on Tuesday, a suspected Pakistani terrorist was killed by security forces in Kathua district. The overnight encounter ended after a second terrorist was also gunned down on Wednesday but a CRPF jawan lost his life in the operation.
On Sunday, terrorists attacked a bus carrying pilgrims, causing it to veer off the road and fall into a deep gorge in Reasi, killing nine and injuring 41.&nbsp;

A terrorist was shot dead by security forces during an encounter after ultras on Tuesday evening opened fire at a village in Kathua district of Jammu and Kashmir, police said.
The terrorists struck Saida Sukhal village near Koota Mode in the Hiranagar sector, a police spokesperson said, adding details of the incident are awaited.
According to officials, at around 7:45 pm 2-3 the militants forcefully entered a house and asked for water. Father and son ran away from the house, and terrorists started firing on them, they said.&nbsp;
Police and other security forces were rushed to the village. A couple of gunshots were heard, believed to be fired by the suspected terrorists, they said.
One terrorist was killed in the exchange of firing and a search operation is on to track down the other terrorists believed to be holed up in the village, the officials said.&nbsp;

One soldier was killed and four were injured as terrorists ambushed an Indian Air Force (IAF) convoy in Jammu and Kashmir's Poonch district on Saturday, three weeks ahead of polling in Anantnag-Rajouri Lok Sabha constituency.
Poonch is part of Anantnag-Rajouri parliamentary constituency which goes to polls in the sixth phase on May 25.
Officials said five security personnel were injured, two of them critically, when four terrorists opened fire on IAF vehicles moving towards Sanai Top in Poonch's Surankot area in the evening.
One of the critically injured soldiers later succumbed at a military hospital during treatment, they said.
"An Indian Air Force vehicle convoy was attacked by militants in the Poonch district of J-K, near Shahsitar. Cordon and search operations are underway presently in the area by local military units.
"The convoy has been secured, and further investigation is under progress," the IAF said in a post on X.
"In the ensuing gunfight with terrorists, the Air Warriors fought back by returning fire. In the process, five IAF personnel received bullet injuries, and were evacuated to the nearest military hospital for immediate medical attention. One Air Warrior succumbed to his injuries later. Further operations are on by the local security forces," it said in another post.
The terror attack took place around 6:15 pm when the troops were returning to the air force station from Jaranwali.
The officials suspect the involvement of the same group of terrorists who ambushed troops in adjoining Bufliaz on December 21 last year, leaving four soldiers dead and three injured.
One of the trucks in the IAF convoy bore the maximum brunt of the attack with several bullets hitting its windscreen and side. The terrorists, who were armed with AK assault rifles, are believed to have fled into the nearby forests, the officials said.
Reinforcements from the Army and police have been rushed to the area and a massive search and cordon operation has been launched to track down and neutralise the terrorists, they said, adding that there has been no contact with the fleeing terrorists so far.
Police assisted by paramilitary forces had been carrying out searches in Poonch town since Friday following inputs about the movement of suspected persons. However, no one was arrested during the operation, the officials said.
The border district of Poonch along with adjoining Rajouri has witnessed some major terrorist attacks over the past two years, signalling the return of terror activities to the region, which was once cleared of terrorism and remained peaceful between 2003 and 2021.
The latest incident in the Pir Panjal region follows the killing of government employee Mohd Razaq, brother of an Army personnel, by terrorists in Rajouri's Kunda Top on April 22 and village defence guard Mohd Sharief in the Basantgarh area of Udhampur on April 28.
Police have released pictures of two Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) terrorists, including suspected Pakistani national Abu Hamza, involved in the murder of Razaq and announced a cash reward of Rs 10 lakh for information leading to his arrest.
The Bufliaz ambush in December last year came weeks after a major gunfight in the Dharmsal belt of Bajimaal forest in Rajouri that left five Army personnel, including two captains, dead.
Two terrorists, including top LeT commander Quari, were also killed in the two-day gunfight. Quari was said to be the mastermind behind several attacks, including the killing of 10 civilians and five Army personnel in the district.
The stretch between Dhera Ki Gali and Bufliaz on the boundary of Rajouri and Poonch is densely forested and leads to Chamrer forest and then Bhata Dhurian forest, where five soldiers were killed in an ambush attack on an Army vehicle on April 20 last year.
In May last year, five more Army personnel were killed and a major-rank officer was injured in Chamrer forest during an anti-terrorist operation. A foreign terrorist was also killed in the operation.
In 2022, five Army personnel were killed when terrorists carried out a suicide attack on their camp at Pargal in the Darhal area of Rajouri district. Both the terrorists involved in the attack were eliminated.
In 2021, nine soldiers were killed in two attacks by terrorists in the forested region. While five Army personnel, including a junior commissioned officer (JCO), were killed on October 11 in Chamrer, a JCO and three soldiers were killed on October 14 in a nearby forest.

Armed Baloch militants tried to infiltrate one of the main naval air bases in Pakistan's restive Balochistan province, but security forces foiled the attack and killed all four terrorists.
The attack on Monday night took place in Turbat, a turbulent district in the sparsely populated province.
Makran Commissioner Saeed Ahmed Umrani told the media that security forces had foiled an armed terrorist attack at the PNS Siddique Naval Air Base which is among the biggest naval air stations in the country.
"The armed men attacked from three sides of the airport boundary, but security forces responded immediately and foiled their attempt to infiltrate the premises,&rdquo; he said.
Eyewitnesses reported they had heard gunfire and explosions throughout the night.
According to a statement by the army, terrorists on the night of March 25/26 attempted to attack Pakistan Naval Base, PNS Siddique in the Turbat area of Balochistan province. However, it was thwarted due to the swift and effective response by the troops ensuring the safety and security of personnel and assets.
"Security forces in the vicinity were immediately mobilized to support the naval troops. Synergetic and effective response by the armed forces enabled the killing of all four terrorists in ensuing joint clearance operation,&rdquo; the army said.
However, during an intense fire exchange, a 24-year-old Sepoy of the paramilitary Frontier Corps Balochistan was killed.
A security official said on condition of anonymity that terrorists were unable to cause any damage at the airbase or to aeroplanes.
No loss of sensitive naval installations was reported, the official said.
A sanitisation operation was being conducted to eliminate any other terrorists found in the area and Pakistan Armed Forces were committed to eliminating the menace of terrorism from the country at all costs.
The banned Balochistan Liberation Army claimed that its Majeed Brigade was behind the attack.
This is the third major attack on security forces and installations this year in Balochistan claimed by the BLA with the first two attacks being also being repulsed by security forces.
Earlier in the year, security forces were attacked in Mach town in which at least ten people were killed but attempts to breach the Mach jail were thwarted by security forces.
On March 24, the BLA also claimed responsibility for an attack on the Gwadar Port Authority Complex. Security forces had killed eight militants of the banned separatist group in the gunfire.
Balochistan, bordering Iran and Afghanistan, is home to a long-running violent insurgency. Baloch insurgent groups have previously carried out several attacks targeting the USD 60 billion CPEC projects.
The BLA accuses China and Islamabad of exploitation of the resource-rich province, a charge rejected by the authorities.
BLA&rsquo;s Majeed Brigade, which was formed in 2011, is a particularly lethal guerilla cell of the BLA.
It has been alleged that the group also maintains sanctuaries in areas along the Pakistan-Iran border.
The brigade, which is the suicide squad of the BLA, mostly targets security forces and Chinese interests in Pakistan. It had also claimed responsibility for the April 2022 suicide attack outside the Karachi University&rsquo;s Confucius Institute.&nbsp;

A cache of arms and ammunition, including two AK-47 assault rifles, was recovered by Border Security Force (BSF) troops along the India-Pakistan International Border in Punjab, as per officials.
The recovery was made at around 12 noon on Sunday.

The explosion in a moving autorickshaw in Mangaluru was an 'act of terror,' Karnataka Director General of Police, Praveen Sood said on Sunday.
In a tweet, the DGP said, "It's confirmed now. The blast is not accidental but an ACT OF TERROR with intention to cause serious damage. Karnataka State Police is probing deep into it along with central agencies." The blast occurred on Saturday evening inside an autorickshaw, near a police station, leaving the passenger and the driver injured. Both have been admitted to the hospital.
Earlier on Saturday, while CCTV visuals from the location, shared by police, showed the autorickshaw catching fire following what appeared to be a minor explosion, a police official, however, did not confirm if it was a 'blast'.
City police commissioner N Shashi Kumar rushed to the spot and told reporters after inspection that there was 'a fire' in the autorickshaw and there is no need for panic. He appealed against spreading rumours.

The Pakistan government has issued a nationwide alert to authorities to maintain "extreme vigilance" amid a heightened risk of terrorist attacks by the Tehreek-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) after peace talks with the dreaded terror group have stalled, a media report said on Thursday.
The federal government said it had learnt that the TTP high command met recently in Paktika, Afghanistan, to discuss the deadlock in peace talks and the fate of the negotiations with the Pakistani government after the killing of TTP commanders Omar Khalid Khorasani and Aftab Parkay.
The letter urged all authorities in four provinces to heighten security and exercise enhanced vigilance to avoid any untoward incident, the Ministry of Interior said in a statement, instructing forces that targeted search and strike missions be carried out wherever militant activity is reported.
In a letter circulated last month, the Ministry of Interior warned that more than year-long peace negotiations between the TTP and the government of Pakistan “had come to a standstill”, which has led to unease within the TTP’s ranks, the Dawn newspaper reported.
It noted that the TTP accuses the Pakistani government of failing to fulfil its main demand — the reversal of the merger of former Federally Administered Tribal Area (FATA) with Khyber Pakhtunkhwa — as well as continuing to detain TTP members while a truce was still being negotiated.
The letter was addressed to the home and chief secretaries of the four provinces as well as the Islamabad chief commissioner, the report said.
The ministry warned that the terror group or its splinter factions might also seek to escalate terrorist activities in the coming days to avenge the killing of their commanders and to show strength in case there is no further progress in peace negotiations.
The notice said the TTP top brass, fearing a complete breakdown of the talks, decided to move their families to secure places as they feared Pakistani security forces would launch a kinetic operation in case of failure of talks.
Some of the militants’ families may be moved to Karachi and its adjoining areas, the notice warned.
The interior ministry also took grave notice of reports that TTP mil­itants are attempting to mig­rate to North and South Waziris­tan from Afghanistan to set up camp for future attacks. It desc­r­ibed reports of the arrival of TTP militants in areas neighbouring the Pak-Afghan border as well as deeper within Khyber Pakhtun­khwa as “a worrisome phenomenon”.
It said that known militant commanders based in Waziristan — Abu Yaha, Molvi Munawar and Matoob Ali Jan alias Sailab — have been in contact with the TTP high command in Afghanistan for further directions regarding moving to the area to intensify terrorist activities.
The government also highlighted the risk of TTP sub-groups defecting to the militant Islamic State (ISKP) or joining hands with the Hafiz Gul Bahadur group to resume terrorist activities.
The interior ministry said targeted strike operations might be launched in areas where militants’ presence is reported and that law enforcement officials should ensure heightened security measures in their respective jurisdictions to avoid any untoward incident, according to the Dawn report.

The attack took place in Pinglana area of the south Kashmir district.
"Terrorists fired upon a joint Naka party of CRPF & Police at Pinglana, Pulwama. In this terror attack, 01 Police personnel got martyred & 01 CRPF personnel got injured," Kashmir Zone Police said in a tweet.
The police said reinforcements had been sent and the area was being cordoned off.

In a strong response to Pakistan, India has said in the UN General Assembly that a country that claims to seek peace with its neighbours would never sponsor cross-border terrorism nor would it shelter planners of the horrific Mumbai terrorist attack, disclosing their existence only under pressure from the global community.
India exercised the Right of Reply in the UN General Assembly on Friday to respond sharply to Pakistan Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, who had raked up the issue of Jammu and Kashmir during his address to the high-level General Debate earlier in the day.
“It is regrettable that the Prime Minister of Pakistan has chosen the platform of this august assembly to make false accusations against India,” First Secretary in the Permanent Mission of India to the UN Mijito Vinito said in the Right of Reply.
“He has done so to obfuscate misdeeds in his own country and to justify actions against India that the world considers unacceptable,” the young Indian diplomat said.
In his address, Sharif reiterated that Pakistan wants to have peace with India but added that long-lasting, enduring peace can only be “insured and guaranteed” through a just and fair solution to the issue of Kashmir under the UN Charter and Security Council resolutions.
India responded that a “polity that claims it seeks peace with its neighbours would never sponsor cross-border terrorism, nor would it shelter planners of the horrific Mumbai terrorist attack, disclosing their existence only under pressure from the international community.” Vinito said such a country would not make unjustified and untenable territorial claims against neighbours, it would not covet their lands and seek to illegally integrate them with its own.
“But it is not just about the neighbourhood that we have heard false claims today. It is about human rights, about minority rights and about basic decencies,” he said.
“When young women in the thousands from the minority community are abducted as an SoP (Standard Operating Procedure) what can we conclude about the underlying mindset? India exercised the Right of Reply in the UN General Assembly on Friday to respond sharply to Pakistan Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif.&nbsp;

In a strong response to Pakistan, India has said in the UN General Assembly that a country that claims to seek peace with its neighbours would never sponsor cross-border terrorism nor would it shelter planners of the horrific Mumbai terrorist attack, disclosing their existence only under pressure from the global community.
India exercised the Right of Reply in the UN General Assembly on Friday to respond sharply to Pakistan Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, who had raked up the issue of Jammu and Kashmir during his address to the high-level General Debate earlier in the day.
&ldquo;It is regrettable that the Prime Minister of Pakistan has chosen the platform of this august assembly to make false accusations against India,&rdquo; First Secretary in the Permanent Mission of India to the UN Mijito Vinito said in the Right of Reply.
&ldquo;He has done so to obfuscate misdeeds in his own country and to justify actions against India that the world considers unacceptable,&rdquo; the young Indian diplomat said.
In his address, Sharif reiterated that Pakistan wants to have peace with India but added that long-lasting, enduring peace can only be &ldquo;insured and guaranteed&rdquo; through a just and fair solution to the issue of Kashmir under the UN Charter and Security Council resolutions.
India responded that a &ldquo;polity that claims it seeks peace with its neighbours would never sponsor cross-border terrorism, nor would it shelter planners of the horrific Mumbai terrorist attack, disclosing their existence only under pressure from the international community.&rdquo; Vinito said such a country would not make unjustified and untenable territorial claims against neighbours, it would not covet their lands and seek to illegally integrate them with its own.

&ldquo;When young women in the thousands from the minority community are abducted as an SoP (Standard Operating Procedure) what can we conclude about the underlying mindset? Muneerul Islam, a worker from West Bengal, was shot at by terrorists in Pulwama.The incident occurred in Ugergund area in the morning. The victim was taken to a hospital following the attack.

Somali forces have ended a nearly 30-hour siege of a hotel by Al-Shabab jihadists in the country's capital Mogadishu around midnight on Saturday, as per media reports.

Somali forces have ended a nearly 30-hour siege of a hotel by Al-Shabab fighters in the country's capital Mogadishu, a security commander told AFP.
At least 13 civilians were reportedly killed and several injured in the siege which began with the Al-Qaeda affiliate fighters unleashing a gun and bomb attack on the popular Hayat Hotel on Friday evening.
"The security forces have ended the siege now and the gunmen are dead, we've had no incoming gunfire from the building in the past hour," the commander was quoted as saying by the AFP.
The government has not yet released details of the total number of casualties be it on the part of civilians, security forces or Al-Shabab fighters.
The security forces are yet to clear the luxury hotel of explosives that may have been planted or left behind by the militants.

"Text messages were received on the WhatsApp number of the Mumbai police's traffic helpline operated from the control room located at Worli in central Mumbai around 11 pm on Friday," the official said.
"In the series of messages, the sender has threatened about a 26/11-type attack," he said, adding that the city crime branch has initiated an investigation into it.

The threats comes two days after a yacht with 3 AK-47 guns and ammunition drifted to the Raigad coast causing a major security scare in the state. A potential terror threat, however, was ruled out, in the case.

"Someone (terrorists) tried to cross the fence of Army camp at Pargal. Sentry challenged and exchange of fire took place," Additional Director General of Police (ADGP) Mukesh Singh said.
Two terrorists were killed in the gun battle, Singh said, adding that five soldiers also suffered injuries and were undergoing treatment.
Unofficial reports claimed three soldiers have died.

Aqib had completed engineering from a college in Chandigarh and joined militant ranks soon after.

While the authorities are yet to be able to put a stop to the targeted killings, a former spymaster has some theories about who might be behind the attacks.
AS Dulat, former special director of the Intelligence Bureau (IB), and former chief of the Research and Analysis Wing (R&amp;AW) told The Wire recently that a terrorist cell, comprising of 10-12 operatives is likely to be behind the killings.

He opined that the cell is based in Jammu and Kashmir's capital city Srinagar, and it is most probably Pakistani terrorists who are running the operation. Most significantly, he suggested that these terrorists are using information gathered from "sympathisers" in the government system.
In the May 19 interview Dulat called the current wave of attacks the most "dangerous" form of terrorism since the dilution of Article 370, which led to the revocation of Jammu and Kashmir's special status in August 2019.
He said that the terrorists behind the attacks are unknown, unlike earlier times when agencies and forces had an idea of the terrorist commanders. Dulat also said that it is very serious that the terror cell is probably operating from Srinagar - a phenomenon not seen since the 1990s.
He also called the terror cell "professional" in its operations. With terrorists using small arms which are more difficult to detect, Dulat said that silencers might be making a comeback to the Valley. Lastly, the ability of terrorists to tap into the government system for information is a cause for concern.
The spate of attacks has led to fresh concern regarding the security situation in the Union Territory. On May 12, government employee Rahul Bhat was killed at the Chadoora tehsil office in Budgam. Five days later, a grenade attack occurred at a liquor store, killing employee Ranjit Singh and injuring 3 others.
Then, on May 24, policeman Saifullah Qadri was killed near his Srinagar home. His 9-yr-old daughter was also injured. Just a day later, terrorists killed TV artiste Amreen Bhat at her Chadoora home. Her 10-yr-old nephew was also injured.
On May 31, government school teacher Rajni Bala was murdered by terrorists in Kulgam. On June 2 morning, bank manager Vijay Kumar, who hailed from Rajasthan, was shot dead in Kulgam. On the same day, in the evening, Dilkhush, a labourer from Bihar was killed, and another was injured in an attack in Budgam.
The Narendra Modi government has responded to the attacks with high-level meetings. With the Amarnath Yatra beginning on June 30, and lakhs of pilgrims heading to Jammu and Kashmir, the administration has only a few weeks to bring the situation under control.

Another mysterious blast in Jammu and Kashmir, days after a deadly fire on a bus carrying Vaishno Devi pilgrims. A car carrying 3 soldiers erupted in flames on June 2 in Shopian.
The latest incident comes amid the mounting threat of sticky bombs in Jammu and Kashmir. So, what are sticky bombs? Why is their use worrying security forces? Is this the start of a new, sinister chapter in the decades-old militancy in Kashmir?
Sticky bombs are explosives packed into a small box. Then, magnets are fixed to the box so that it can stick to metal surfaces, like vehicles. The bomb can then be retrofitted with timer or mobile phone. A timer can give the attacker a few minutes to escape before the explosion. If a mobile phone is attached, to the bomb, then attackers gain remote control. When the number of the phone is dialled, the bomb is triggered. This type of a sticky bomb is considered cheaper than many other explosive devices.

The introduction of sticky bombs in Kashmir is alarming due to their widespread and devastating use in Afghanistan. Such explosive devices were frequently used by Taliban fighters against Afghan government and Western forces. Subsequently, the strategy was adopted by Islamic State terrorists against Taliban, and minority communities. In December 2020, a sticky bomb attack reportedly killed Kabul’s deputy provincial governor. In June 2021, ISIS claimed responsibility for blasts in 2 cars in Shiite neighbourhood which killed at least 7.
Sticky bombs are worrisome because of the ease with which they can be planted at targets. One trick is to distract the driver of the target car at traffic light stops etc, while another person sticks the bomb to the vehicle. Another trick seen in Afghanistan is that attackers drive in front of the target car, then throw the bomb on the road and trigger it as soon as the target car passes over it.
The mastermind pushing sticky bombs into Kashmir is clear. On May 27, a drone from Pakistan carrying 7 sticky bombs was shot down in Kathua. Days earlier, on May 13, a sticky bomb might have been used to attack Vaishno Devi pilgrims. On April 28, a sticky bomb was found just in time at Sidhra bypass near Jammu, averting a tragedy. In August 2021, four sticky bombs were allegedly found with a man in Poonch, as per reports.

Another mysterious blast in Jammu and Kashmir, days after a deadly fire on a bus carrying Vaishno Devi pilgrims. A car carrying 3 soldiers erupted in flames on June 2 in Shopian.
The latest incident comes amid the mounting threat of sticky bombs in Jammu and Kashmir. So, what are sticky bombs? Why is their use worrying security forces? Is this the start of a new, sinister chapter in the decades-old militancy in Kashmir?
Sticky bombs are explosives packed into a small box. Then, magnets are fixed to the box so that it can stick to metal surfaces, like vehicles. The bomb can then be retrofitted with timer or mobile phone. A timer can give the attacker a few minutes to escape before the explosion. If a mobile phone is attached, to the bomb, then attackers gain remote control. When the number of the phone is dialled, the bomb is triggered. This type of a sticky bomb is considered cheaper than many other explosive devices.

The introduction of sticky bombs in Kashmir is alarming due to their widespread and devastating use in Afghanistan. Such explosive devices were frequently used by Taliban fighters against Afghan government and Western forces. Subsequently, the strategy was adopted by Islamic State terrorists against Taliban, and minority communities. In December 2020, a sticky bomb attack reportedly killed Kabul&rsquo;s deputy provincial governor. In June 2021, ISIS claimed responsibility for blasts in 2 cars in Shiite neighbourhood which killed at least 7.
Sticky bombs are worrisome because of the ease with which they can be planted at targets. One trick is to distract the driver of the target car at traffic light stops etc, while another person sticks the bomb to the vehicle. Another trick seen in Afghanistan is that attackers drive in front of the target car, then throw the bomb on the road and trigger it as soon as the target car passes over it.
The mastermind pushing sticky bombs into Kashmir is clear. On May 27, a drone from Pakistan carrying 7 sticky bombs was shot down in Kathua. Days earlier, on May 13, a sticky bomb might have been used to attack Vaishno Devi pilgrims. On April 28, a sticky bomb was found just in time at Sidhra bypass near Jammu, averting a tragedy. In August 2021, four sticky bombs were allegedly found with a man in Poonch, as per reports.

In yet another terror attack on civilians, a television actor was killed in Kashmir. Amreen Bhat, and her 10-year-old nephew was shot at her house in Chadoora in Budgam on May 25.
They were rushed to a hospital, where Amreen succumbed to her injuries. She was known for her work in television shows, as well as for making videos on social media.

The TV artiste's nephew received a bullet injury on his arm. The attack took place outside Amreen's house in Hishroo area of Chadoora.
