Former Australia test cricket captain Tim Paine has announced his retirement following the conclusion of Tasmania's Sheffield Shield first-class match against Queensland on Friday.
Wicketkeeper Paine captained Australia in 23 tests between early 2018 and 2021, playing 35 tests overall. Paine stood down from the captaincy in late 2021 after it was revealed he had sent explicit text messages to a former Cricket Tasmania employee.
Paine, who made his debut against Pakistan at Lord's in 2010, averaged 32.63 in test matches with a top score of 92 and made 157 dismissals behind the stumps. He also played 35 one-day internationals for Australia.

He also becomes the first Indian fast bowler after legendary skipper Kapil Dev to lead Team India, 35 years after the Haryana Hurricane last captained the side.
Speaking on the eve of the all-important Edgbaston Test, Bumrah said, "This is a huge achievement, a huge honour. Playing Test match for the country was my dream and getting this opportunity is the biggest achievement of my career."
While England look like a completely different side from last year, having whitewashed New Zealand 3-0 recently, Jasprit Bumrah is unfazed by the challenge that lies ahead.
"Our focus is on our strengths. England have played well, but we are not concentrating on them. We want to execute our plans to the best of our ability."
When asked about his inexperience as captain, Bumrah quipped: "I have spoken to MS Dhoni, he told me that he captained India straight away, he had never captained anywhere else and he is one of the most successful captains. I am just focusing on how to help the team and not on what I have done before."
While it's true that Bumrah has been thrown into the deep end with his new role as captain, it remains to be seen whether he can survive and thrive. A true test of character awaits!

England cricketer James Anderson, who will return to action in the rescheduled 5th Test against India said that he was disappointed to miss the series against New Zealand and he will keep his finger crossed when he will be on the field this week.
India is 2-1 up against the hosts in 5 match Test series. The final Test couldn't take place last year due to a Covid outbreak in the Indian camp and will now be played from July 1-5 in Birmingham.
In an interview with Sky Sports, Anderson said that he hates to miss games and after the game at Headingley, feeling around the group is so good that he wants to be around it as much as possible.

In a severe blow for New Zealand, skipper Kane Williamson will miss the second Test match against England in Nottingham on Friday after testing positive for Covid-19.
Williamson experienced minor symptoms and undertook the Rapid Antigen Test (RAT) before being found to be positive for Covid-19. The 31-year old Kiwi will now begin a 5-days of isolation.
The other players in the team have returned negative tests.
Tom Latham has been named to lead the team in Williamson's absence while Hamish Rutherford, who is already in England playing for Leicestershire Foxes will join the squad as Williamson’s replacement.
