Forensic experts, led by Professor Kornkiat Vongpaisarnsin from Chulalongkorn University, indicated that cyanide was the definitive cause of death for the victims, who included both Vietnamese nationals and dual US citizens. The discovery was made after traces of cyanide were also found on the teacups used by the deceased.
Initial investigations suggest a possible link to financial disputes among the victims. Two of the deceased had reportedly lent substantial sums of money to another individual within the group for investment purposes. This financial entanglement is being explored as a potential motive behind the tragic incident.
The victims, whose bodies showed characteristic signs of cyanide poisoning such as darkened lips and nails, had checked into the hotel over the weekend and were due to depart on Monday. However, they failed to check out, raising concerns that they may have been dead for up to 24 hours before their discovery by hotel staff.
Thai authorities, including Prime Minister Srettha Thavisin, have ordered a thorough investigation into the incident, emphasizing that it appears to be a private matter with no wider public safety implications. The US State Department has offered condolences and is closely monitoring developments, with the FBI providing assistance to local investigators.
According to Deputy Bangkok police chief Gen Noppassin Poonsawat, the victims gathered in their hotel room on Monday afternoon to share a meal, during which cyanide-laced tea was served. The room was found locked from the inside with no signs of forced entry or struggle.

Thailand's Senate voted overwhelmingly on Tuesday to approve a marriage equality bill, clearing the last legislative hurdle for the country to become the first in Southeast Asia to enact such a law.
The bill passed its final reading with the approval of 130 of the 152 members of the Senate in attendance, with 4 voting against it and 18 abstaining.
The bill now needs the pro forma endorsement of King Maha Vajiralongkorn, followed by its publication in the Government Gazette, which will set a date within 120 days when it becomes effective.
Thailand will become the third place in Asia, after Taiwan and Nepal, to allow same-sex marriage.
The marriage equality bill, which grants full legal, financial and medical rights for marriage partners of any gender, sailed through the House of Representatives right before the previous parliamentary session concluded in April.
The bill amends the Civil and Commercial Code to change the words &ldquo;men and women&rdquo; and &ldquo;husband and wife&rdquo; to &ldquo;individuals&rdquo; and &ldquo;marriage partners.&rdquo; Thailand has a reputation for acceptance and inclusivity but has struggled for decades to pass a marriage equality law.
Thai society largely holds conservative values, and members of the LGBTQ+ community say they face discrimination in everyday life.
The government and state agencies are also historically conservative, and advocates for gender equality have had a hard time pushing lawmakers and civil servants to accept change.

The 45-year-old woman had an affair with 24-year-old Phra Maha and they both were caught in bed by the politician&rsquo;s husband. &nbsp;
The husband, identified by the outlet as Ti, drove for five hours to catch the woman red-handed as he already had suspicions of the affair. &nbsp;
The couple adopted Phra Maha, who is now on the run, in 2023 from a temple after Choeiwadkoh said she felt sorry for him.&nbsp;
"This news is explosive, with too many elements. It sounds like pure fiction. The world of the wealthy is indeed fascinating and chaotic," South China Morning Post (SCMP) quoted one user as saying on X.&nbsp; "A 64-year-old husband, a 45-year-old wife, and a 24-year-old adopted son who is a monk? This is such a mess. It sounds more like keeping a boy-toy rather than adoption. Even dramas don't dare to script this," said another.&nbsp; A video of the politician with the monk on bed has also surfaced on various social media platforms that reports say was recorded by Ti.&nbsp; In the video, both were seen naked on the bed in a room. As Ti opens the door of the room holding his camera, both jumped from the bed and closed the door. &nbsp; She has been suspended from her post and an investigation is on in the case.&nbsp;&nbsp;

Thailand's parliament passed a same-sex marriage bill Wednesday, paving the way for the kingdom to become the first Southeast Asian nation to recognise LGBTQ marriage equality.
The bill sailed through on 399 to 10 votes in the lower house, although it must still be approved by the Senate before it is endorsed by the king, and then published in the Royal Gazette.
After the result, one representative brought a rainbow flag into the chamber.
"Today society has proved to us that they care about LGBT rights," Tunyawaj Kamolwongwat, an MP with the progressive Move Forward Party which has pushed for LGBTQ+ rights, told AFP.
"Now we finally will have the same rights as others."
Across Asia only Taiwan and Nepal recognise same-sex marriage, with India's highest court deferring the decision to parliament in October.
And while the kingdom enjoys a welcoming reputation for the international LGBTQ+ community, Thai activists have struggled for decades against conservative attitudes and values.
The proposal will change references to "men", "women", "husbands" and "wives" in the marriage law to gender-neutral terms.
It also means LGBTQ+ couples will be able to enjoy inheritance and adoption rights in the kingdom for the first time.
'A huge step'&nbsp;
"It's a huge step for our country -- it is the first in Southeast Asia," Mookdapa Yangyuenpradorn, a spokesperson with activist group Fortify Rights, told AFP.
Mookdapa expressed hope that the later stages of the bill would progress smoothly, so that her country "will be on par with the international level in terms of LGBT rights".
The vote follows a decision by Prime Minister Srettha Thavisin's cabinet last year that gave the go-ahead for the parliament debate.
The prime minister has been vocal in his support for the LGBTQ+ community, making the policy a signature issue and telling reporters last year that the change would strengthen family structures.
While Thailand has a reputation for tolerance, much of the Buddhist-majority country remains conservative and the LGBTQ community, while highly visible, still faces barriers and discrimination.
Activists have been pushing for same-sex marriage rights for more than a decade, but in a kingdom where politics is regularly upended by coups and mass street protests, the advocacy did not get far.
In 2022 Thai lawmakers gave initial approval to two bills that would allow same-sex marriages and two others that would permit civil partnerships.
But the legislation was dropped when parliament was dissolved to pave the way for a general election held last year.

"The association would like to express its disappointment and apologise for the off-field chaos that occurred during the match", the FAT said in a statement distributed to media on Wednesday.
The statement promised punishment for those involved in the brawling, which "caused great damage to the Thai national football team".
FAT said it will form a committee to investigate and that "there will be severe punishment with no protection for the personnel who caused damage in this incident."

As pollution reached dangerously high levels in Bangkok this week, nearly 200,000 residents were admitted to hospitals, according to the public health ministry.&nbsp;
For the past few days, the Thai capital, home to over 11 million, has been shrouded in a yellow-grey mix of vehicle fumes, industrial emissions and smoke from agricultural burning.&nbsp;
The public health ministry said 50 districts in Bangkok on March 08 recorded unsafe levels of the most dangerous PM2.5 particles -- so tiny they can enter the bloodstream -- while the following day they remained well above World Health Organization guidelines.
PM2.5 levels have been above safe limits for most of Bangkok since March 06, according to the government's pollution control department.
A doctor at public health ministry urged children and pregnant women to stay indoors on March 08 while adding that any individual stepping outside should wear a high-quality N95 anti-pollution mask.&nbsp;
During another pollution peak in late January and early February, city authorities had urged people to work from home.
A spokesman for Bangkok governor Chadchart Sittipunt -- elected last year with promises to improve the city's environment -- said they would not hesitate to issue another similar order if the situation got worse.

The plane was forced to return to Delhi's Indira Gandhi International Airport soon after take-off at 6:41 am. The pilot sought emergency landing clearance after detecting a technical problem.

The government is likely to make it mandatory for passengers arriving from China and five other places to have negative RT-PCR reports from next week, official sources said on Wednesday.
The sources said filling up of 'air suvidha' forms and 72-hour prior RT-PCR testing may be made mandatory from next week for international passengers coming from China, Japan, South Korea, Hong Kong, Thailand and Singapore.
The sources said 39 international passengers were found positive for COVID-19 out of the 6,000 tested on arrival in the last two days.
Union Health Minister Mansukh Mandaviya will visit the airport in Delhi on Thursday to take stock of testing and screening facilities there, they said.

Union Health Minister Mansukh Mandaviya on Saturday said RT-PCR test for the detection of COVID-19 would be made mandatory for passengers from China, Japan, South Korea, Singapore and Thailand for their travel to India.

In view of the pandemic situation, passengers of flights from China, Japan, South Korea, Singapore and Bangkok are required to upload their RT-PCR report in advance. Even after landing in India, they will undergo thermal screening, he said.
"We have issued an order for them to be quarantined in the country if found positive or with fever," the minister said.
With China and other countries witnessing a surge in Covid cases, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday cautioned against complacency, called for a strict vigil and directed that the ongoing surveillance measures, especially at the international airports, be strengthened.
The Union health ministry has already asked the civil aviation ministry to ensure random post-arrival Covid testing at airports of 2 per cent of the passengers arriving in India in each international flight from Saturday to minimise the risk of ingress of any new variant of the coronavirus in the country.&nbsp;

Strong winds blew seawater onto the HTMS Sukhothai corvette and knocked out its electrical system Sunday evening. The Royal Thai Navy dispatched three frigates and two helicopters with mobile pumping machines to try to assist the disabled ship by removing the seawater but it couldn't do so because of the strong winds.
The loss of power allowed more seawater to flow into the vessel, causing it to list and sink.
