A 22-year-old man accused in a murder case hurled a slipper at a judge during the hearing in a sessions court in Maharashtra&rsquo;s Thane district, police said on Monday.

The incident took place on Saturday afternoon at the court in Kalyan town and a First Information Report (FIR) was subsequently registered against the accused. The accused, Kiran Santosh Bharam, was produced before District and Additional Sessions Judge R G Waghmare for a hearing in the murder case against him, an official from Mahatma Fule police station said.
At that time, the accused made a request to the judge to assign his case to another court. The judge asked the accused to make an application for the same through his lawyer, the official said.
The name of his lawyer was then called out, but he was not around and did not appear in the court. Hence, the accused was asked to give the name of another lawyer to represent him and was given a fresh date by the court, he said.
The accused then bent down, pulled out his slipper and hurled it in the judge&rsquo;s direction, taking everyone present in the court by surprise, the official said.
An FIR was subsequently registered against the accused under Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita sections 132 (assault or criminal force to deter public servant from discharge of his duty) and 125 (act endangering life or personal safety of others), the police added.&nbsp;

State health minister Sawant said the dean of the hospital has been asked to submit a report in two days.

Seventeen patients have died in the last 24 hours in civic-run Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Hospital in Kalwa in Thane city, Maharashtra minister Tanaji Sawant and a senior police official said on Sunday.
The police official said the management of the facility have cited critical nature of the patients as well as age as causes.
State health minister Sawant said the dean of the hospital has been asked to submit a report in two days.
A Thane Municipal Corporation official said the deaths were being analysed and several civic officials are at the heavily-patronised facility for inspection of records etc.
Some officials put the toll at 18, comprising 10 males and eight females, but this could not be confirmed.
Speaking to PTI, Deputy Commissioner of Police Ganesh Gawde said, "We have information of 17 deaths in the last 24 hours. We have been told the usual figure per day is six to seven." "The hospital management told us some of the patients arrived there in a critical stage and succumbed during treatment. Some were elderly. We have increased police presence at the hospital to avoid any untoward incident due to these high number of deaths," the DCP informed.
Sawant said the dean of the hospital has been asked to submit a report in two days on the 17 deaths in the last 24 hours.

Sunil V Gaikwad, the sharpshooter who was involved in the attack on Bollywood filmmaker Rakesh Roshan&nbsp;has been arrested in Thane, Maharashtra.
The 52-year-old Gaikwad was nabbed from Parsik Circle area in Kalwa around 9 pm on Friday almost three months after he jumped parole, said a senior official on Saturday.
The accused had been sentenced to life imprisonment in a murder case and was lodged at Nashik central jail. However, he came out on a 28-day parole on June 26 this year.
Rakesh Roshan was allegedly shot at outside his Santa Cruz office in the western suburbs of Mumbai in January 2000. The assailants had fired six rounds, of which two bullets had hit Roshan.
