Protesters voiced their concerns about the increasing violence against Hindus in Bangladesh, highlighting reports of assaults, rapes, and targeted attacks on women and children. One protester accused Bangladesh of attempting to &ldquo;overrun&rdquo; its Hindu minority, drawing parallels to similar violence in Pakistan and Afghanistan. "We are here to unite and show concern for our brothers and sisters," said one participant.
On World Human Rights Day, protestors emphasized the ongoing violence since August 3, 2024, urging Bangladesh to stop attacks on Hindus, including the burning of temples and abductions. A Bangladeshi-origin Hindu woman spoke out, calling for protection for Hindus in their homeland, stressing that they should not be wiped out as they were in Afghanistan and Pakistan.
Recent months have seen repeated incidents of violence, including arson, looting, and desecration of Hindu temples. The arrest of Hindu priest Chinmoy Krishna Das on sedition charges sparked further protests, with India urging Bangladesh to ensure the safety and rights of its Hindu minority.

The vandalism done last week was the fourth incident where a Hindu temple was targeted in the last eight months in the country.

In a video message, the President of Ram Mandir in Canada's Mississauga, Roop Nauth Sharma appealed to people to join him at the temple on February 24 to remove the graffiti painted last week.&nbsp;
&ldquo;We will join together in the process of washing away the hatred,&rdquo; he said, adding, &ldquo;We will show these people that in Canada we live in harmony&rdquo;.&nbsp;
Denouncing the act, Sharma said it was done with the intention to cause disharmony, adding that looking at the desecrated walls 'hurt' him and devotees who came to visit the temple.&nbsp;
This was the fourth incident where a Hindu temple was targeted in the last eight months in Canada. The incident also drew widespread condemnation from politicians in the country.&nbsp;
As per a Hindustan Times report, Canadian government officials are expected to attend the event on February 24.&nbsp;

In an unusual way to mark Valentine's Day, a Canadian zoo on January 15 launched a campaign to let people vent their feelings through a cockroach.
The Toronto Zoo Wildlife Conservancy's 'Name-a-roach' contest requires people to name a cockroach after the person who annoys them. &nbsp;To participate, one has to pay $25, which amounts to about 1500 Indian rupees.
&nbsp;Zoo's official website mentioned that participants will be provided with a digital certificate comprising their name and that of the 'roach' in their life. It added that "inappropriate language, profanity and hate speech" will not be featured on the certificate."
The contest however has now been closed due to overwhelming response, the zoo said in a tweet on January 20.
Earlier it had posted about the campaign saying, "Roses are red; violets are blue&hellip; Is there someone in your life that&rsquo;s bugging you? Give them goosebumps by naming a cockroach in their honour this Valentine's Day."

The family of a 21-year-old student who was shot dead in Canada's Toronto on Thursday said that they have no clarity from authorities about the motive of the crime but they suspect that it was a hate crime. 
Speaking to Indian Express, Kartik Vasudev's parents said that they will knock on every door to get justice. 
21-year-old Kartik from Ghaziabad had gone to Toronto to study global management from Seneca University and was in his first year. He was shot on Thursday while he was on his way to work at a local restaurant. 
According to Canadian police, Kartik was shot eight times. 
Vasudev received medical attention from an off-duty paramedic and was taken to a hospital where he succumbed to his injuries, the Toronto Police Service said in a statement.
The homicide squad of the Toronto Police Service has taken over the investigation.
Investigators would like to speak to any witnesses that were in the area at the time, as well as any drivers or businesses that have camera footage, the police said.
“We are shocked & distressed at the unfortunate killing of Indian student Kartik Vasudev in a shooting incident in Toronto yesterday,” the Consulate General of India wrote in a statement posted on Twitter on Friday.
“We are in touch with the family and will provide all possible assistance in the early repatriation of mortal remains," it said.
External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar expressed grief at the killing.
“Grieved by this tragic incident. Deepest condolences to the family,” Jaishankar tweeted.
The victim's father, Jitesh Vasudev said, “We have lost everything,” “He was just trying to fulfil his dreams, it was his dream to come to Canada," he told Toronto Star.
According to his father, Vasudev had spent the last three years studying hard to be accepted into the school in Toronto.
He was particularly drawn to the safety and opportunities in Canada, his father said, adding he had made friends and had just got a part-time job at the Mexican restaurant just two weeks ago.
The last time he and his wife spoke to their son was Thursday afternoon.
