Mamata Banerjee said the Trinamool Congress will not allow the ruling BJP to win the elections in Goa, due in early 2022, this time.
Seeking to strike a chord with the Christian community, which has a sizeable presence in Goa, Banerjee said she has been attending Christmas midnight masses since the last 20 years without a break.
“After our government was formed, we celebrate Christmas in Kolkata in a big way. I am going to inaugurate a function (on occasion of the upcoming festival) on 20th of this month,” she said.
Banerjee also spoke out her closeness to Mother Teresa due to which she said she was even invited to the Vatican.
Earlier, while addressing local TMC leaders, she said her party has entered the poll fray not to control the stater, but to use its experience to help Goans.
She exuded confidence that the TMC will win the Goa assembly elections and said if anyone wants to defeat the BJP, it is up to them to support her party in achieving that goal.
Terming Goa as a “cute, beautiful and very intelligent” state, Banerjee said she has a plan for the tourist state, just the way she had for West Bengal, which will be implemented within six months of the TMC coming to power here.

After the meeting, Raut said that there can be no opposition front without the Congress. The same line was echoed by the third partner in the Maharashtra government, the NCP.
Sharad Pawar's party asserted it will make every effort to form a broad-based alliance that will also include the Congress.
Interestingly, Sharad Pawar was by Mamata's side when she declared the UPA dead during her visit to Mumbai last week.
When asked how the opposition parties are coming together to take on the BJP in the 2024 Lok Sabha polls, Raut said efforts for this are on.
“I have told Rahulji to take a lead in this and work towards it. There can be no (opposition) front without the Congress. What will two-three fronts of opposition do?” the Rajya Sabha MP said.
Raut said the Sena has already stated that no opposition front is possible without the Congress.
“I have not talked about any leader leading the front. I am only saying there should be only one front. If there are two-three fronts, then it cannot be an alternative. Only then can we present an alternative (to the BJP),” he stressed.

Even as Tripura is voting for civic body polls amid a BJP and Trinamool Congress slugfest, the Supreme Court on Thursday directed the Centre to rush additional central forces to the state.
The court said that two additional companies of central forces should be deployed immediately amid opposition claims of harassment and intimidation of voters by the BJP.

The Trinamool MPs had reached the Capital on Sunday evening and had sought an appointment with home minister Amit Shah. As the delegation didn't get time to meet Shah, they sat on a dharna outside his office.
The political duel is set to escalate with Trinamool supremo and West Bengal chief minister scheduled to arrive in the Capital on Monday evening.

Tagging Trinamool supremo Mamata Banerjee, Dubey wrote, that the way the TMC MP abused, the party's hatred towards North Indians and towards Hindi-speaking people was now clear in front of the country.

Three MPs from All India Trinamool Congress has written to Prime Minister Narendra Modi seeking removal of Solicitor General Tushar Mehta from the post on the ground that he met BJP leader and Narada scam accused Suvendu Adhikari.
The letter written by MPs Derek O'Brien, Mahua Moitra and Sukhendu Sekhar Roy, said that there are various news reports with videos as per which Adhikari met Mehta at the latter's Delhi residence.
The letter said that Adhikari is an accused in various criminal cases of cheating, illegal gratification and bribery and was caught on camera taking bribes in a sting operation in Narada case.
The Solicitor General is the second highest law officer and advises government and its agencies on crucial legal matters including the Narada case which is being investigated by the CBI, the MPs pointed out.
Meeting the accused in that case is in direct conflict of interest with the statutory duties of the Solicitor General, the letter said.

Three MPs from All India Trinamool Congress has written to Prime Minister Narendra Modi seeking removal of Solicitor General Tushar Mehta from the post on the ground that he met BJP leader and Narada scam accused Suvendu Adhikari.

Three MPs from All India Trinamool Congress has written to Prime Minister Narendra Modi seeking removal of Solicitor General Tushar Mehta from the post on the ground that he met BJP leader and Narada scam accused Suvendu Adhikari.
The letter written by MPs Derek O'Brien, Mahua Moitra and Sukhendu Sekhar Roy, said that there are various news reports with videos as per which Adhikari met Mehta at the latter's Delhi residence.
The letter said that Adhikari is an accused in various criminal cases of cheating, illegal gratification and bribery and was caught on camera taking bribes in a sting operation in Narada case.
The Solicitor General is the second highest law officer and advises government and its agencies on crucial legal matters including the Narada case which is being investigated by the CBI, the MPs pointed out.
Meeting the accused in that case is in direct conflict of interest with the statutory duties of the Solicitor General, the letter said.
