The cessation comes in the wake of Uber's prior withdrawal from several major cities in 2022, including Karachi, Multan, Faisalabad, Peshawar, and Islamabad.

In light of this development, Uber users are urged to transition to Careem, a subsidiary of Uber, which will continue to provide ride-hailing services throughout Pakistan. Uber's acquisition of Careem in 2019 for $3.1 billion underscored the companies' commitment to maintaining regional operations under independent branding.
With Uber's exit from Pakistan's market, Careem aims to consolidate its presence and expand its reach across the country. Notably, Uber had been operating exclusively through the Careem app in Lahore prior to its complete withdrawal.

Uber misrepresented this in their terms of service, telling drivers that only the company's commission would be deducted from fares, and drivers could charge passengers for tolls, taxes, or fees, even though no method was provided via the Uber Driver app. Lyft similarly underpaid drivers from 2015 to 2017, deducting an 11.4% "administrative charge" from their payments, equivalent to the sales tax and Black Car Fund fees riders should have paid. Additionally, both Uber and Lyft failed to provide drivers with paid sick leave, a legal requirement in New York City and New York state.

Further elaborating on their impact, the release revealed, "30 lakh - that is the number of drivers who have earned via the Uber app as a driver partner." The Delhi Commission for Women has issued a notice to the city police and the cab aggregator firm on the victim's complaint.&nbsp;
A case under section 509 (word, gesture or act intended to insult the modesty of a woman) of the IPC has been registered and investigation initiated, Deputy Commissioner of Police (southeast) Rajesh Deo said.
Taking to Twitter, the woman narrated her ordeal.
The Delhi Commission for Women said it has received a complaint in the matter and has issued a notice to the city police and the cab aggregator firm.
The women's panel has sought an action taken report by March 6.&nbsp;

Ola, Uber drivers fret over 5 pc convenience fee on each autorickshaw ride

The Karnataka government on November 25 directed the regional transport authorities to charge five per cent convenience fee and GST from the ride hailing companies on each autorickshaw ride by the passengers.

The Ola Uber Drivers and Owners&rsquo; Association (OUDOA) and the autorickshaw drivers linked with the ride-hailing companies are apprehensive about the five per cent convenience fee and Goods and Services Tax levied on every autorickshaw ride taken up by passengers.
The Karnataka government on November 25 directed the regional transport authorities to charge five per cent convenience fee and GST from the ride hailing companies on each autorickshaw ride by the passengers.
OUDOA president Tanveer Pasha blamed the state government for not presenting the case properly before the Karnataka High Court.
The government should have brought an amendment to the Karnataka On-Demand Transportation Technology Aggregators' Rules because there is no provision for autorickshaw in it, Pasha told PTI.
"If they (transport department) had given proper information to the court, then the court would have directed the government to bring an amendment to the rule," he said.
Pasha also alleged that the transport department did not take on board the Regional Transport Authority, Bengaluru Urban district, whose chairman is the deputy commissioner of Bengaluru Urban district while passing the direction.
In the existing scheme of things, the charge for every kilometre while riding an autorickshaw is Rs 15. Adding the five per cent convenience fee with GST on per kilometre ride in Bengaluru would cost about 80 paise, Pasha was apprehensive that the aggregators may find ways to increase it.
The minimum charge fixed by the government for autorickshaw rides is Rs 30 and the per kilometre fare above that is Rs 15.
Thimmappa, an autorickshaw driver, said the fixed fares on the face of it do not appear to be exorbitant but it is difficult to predict how these companies would charge people.
"These Ola-Uber companies were charging exorbitantly due to which the government had to intervene. We don&rsquo;t know how they will use this latest order to burn a hole in the pockets," Thimmappa said.
Venkatesh N, another autorickshaw driver, said only time will tell how the rates will be fixed on each ride and how people are charged.
A public relations team member of Ola Cabs declined to comment on the five per cent convenience fee.

Seems like Zomato is facing a really tough time, day after Zomato scrip rose 20% to close at ₹55.60 apiece, Ride-hailing app Uber is selling off its entire holding in Indian food delivery company Zomato for at least $373 million (₹2,939 crore) through a block deal of shares. 
According to reports, the offer price range for the deal to be carried out on Wednesday will be between ₹48-54 per share. 
The decision to sell its stake in Zomato comes within a week after the one-year post-IPO lock-in on Zomato shares ended.
It can be noted that Uber picked up the stake in Zomato after the latter acquired its local food business Uber Eats in an all stock deal in 2020. 
Zomato’s shares are down 27 per cent over its IPO price of Rs 76 per share. Following its listing, the stock had more than doubled to touch a record high of Rs 169.

The Uber Files, a trove of more than 124,000 records show how the taxi firm's former boss personally ordered the use of a "kill switch" to prevent raiding police from accessing computers.
Uber’s San Francisco-based chief executive, Travis Kalanick, had ordered the computer systems in Amsterdam cut off from Uber’s internal network, making data inaccessible to authorities as they raided its European headquarters, documents show as per reports.
“Please hit the kill switch ASAP,” Kalanick had emailed, ordering a subordinate to block the office laptops and other devices from Uber’s internal systems. “Access must be shut down in AMS,” referring to Amsterdam.
Guardian reports that the leaked files suggest the technique, signed off by Uber’s lawyers, was deployed at least 12 times during raids in India, France, the Netherlands, Belgium and others.
The files, which span 2013 to 2017, includes more than 83,000 emails and frank phone messages between Uber Chief Kalanick and his top team of executives.
In one exchange as per reports, Kalanick dismissed concerns from other executives that sending Uber drivers to a protest in France put them at risk of violence from angry opponents in the taxi industry. “I think it’s worth it,” he shot back. “Violence guarantees success.”
 
In a statement responding to the leak, Uber admitted to “mistakes and missteps”, but said it had been transformed since 2017 under the leadership of its current chief executive, Dara Khosrowshahi.
“We have not and will not make excuses for past behaviour that is clearly not in line with our present values,” it said. “Instead, we ask the public to judge us by what we’ve done over the last five years and what we will do in the years to come.”

Uber&rsquo;s San Francisco-based chief executive, Travis Kalanick, had ordered the computer systems in Amsterdam cut off from Uber&rsquo;s internal network, making data inaccessible to authorities as they raided its European headquarters, documents show as per reports.
&ldquo;Please hit the kill switch ASAP,&rdquo; Kalanick had emailed, ordering a subordinate to block the office laptops and other devices from Uber&rsquo;s internal systems. &ldquo;Access must be shut down in AMS,&rdquo; referring to Amsterdam.
Guardian reports that the leaked files suggest the technique, signed off by Uber&rsquo;s lawyers, was deployed at least 12 times during raids in India, France, the Netherlands, Belgium and others.
The files, which span 2013 to 2017, includes more than 83,000 emails and frank phone messages between Uber Chief Kalanick and his top team of executives.
In one exchange as per reports, Kalanick dismissed concerns from other executives that sending Uber drivers to a protest in France put them at risk of violence from angry opponents in the taxi industry. &ldquo;I think it&rsquo;s worth it,&rdquo; he shot back. &ldquo;Violence guarantees success.&rdquo;
In a statement responding to the leak, Uber admitted to &ldquo;mistakes and missteps&rdquo;, but said it had been transformed since 2017 under the leadership of its current chief executive, Dara Khosrowshahi.
&ldquo;We have not and will not make excuses for past behaviour that is clearly not in line with our present values,&rdquo; it said. &ldquo;Instead, we ask the public to judge us by what we&rsquo;ve done over the last five years and what we will do in the years to come.&rdquo;

The ride-hailing and delivery group will treat hiring as a "privilege" and pull back on the "least efficient" incentive and marketing spend, Khosrowshahi said in an email to employees.
"The average employee at Uber is barely over 30, which means you've spent your career in a long and unprecedented bull run," he said. "This next period will be different, and it will require a different approach."
Khosrowshahi said Uber had made "a ton of progress in terms of profitability" but "the goalposts have changed. Now it's about free cash flow."
Uber isn't the only tech company talking about a hiring squeeze. Last week,&nbsp;Meta also announced to its staff that it would scale back hiring as a way to tackle slow revenue growth.
