The Uddhav Thackeray faction-led Shiv Sena was all in praise of Congress Leader Rahul Gandhi for his fiery speech in the Lok Sabha.
The party's mouthpiece 'Saamana' Group termed it as 'a vendetta by time', predicting that Rahul's speech, and its fallout across the country, was a clear pointer that more was in store for the BJP in the coming days, according to IANS news agency.
"In the last 10 years, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Home Minister Amit Shah and their BJP never faced such a situation. Rahul Gandhi has scratched off the vermillion (sindoor) of divinity off Modi&hellip;The Leader of Opposition cannot be congratulated enough for this," said 'Saamana'.
The mouthpiece pointed out that after Rahul Gandhi's assertions that the BJP was not a "monopolist of Hinduism", a storm erupted in Parliament and for the first time in 10 years, Shah had to seek 'protection' from the Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla.
The 'Saamana' further said that Gandhi's statements about how some people are instigating riots in the name of Hindutva and spreading communal hatred for elections, even though real Hinduism is sober, liberal and fearlessly supportive of Truth, angered PM Modi who accused the Congress LoP of "insulting the Hindus".
"Rahul Gandhi ridiculed Modi's claims of divinity and how he could communicate directly with God&hellip; Modi became a laughing stock in front of the whole Parliament by his own utterances. After this Modi-Shah had no choice but to seek the Speaker's protection&hellip; Hope the message has reached the ED-CBI-etc," said the 'Saamana'.
"The solitary Rahul Gandhi proved more than a match for the BJP's Modi, Shah, Rajnath Singh, Kiren Rijiju, Ravi Shankar Prasad, Bhupendra Yadav and others on the ruling side. Shiv Sena (UBT) chief Uddhav Thackeray on Sunday said even if the BJP opens the door for him, he will not go back to his former ally, accusing the saffron party of sinking his government in 2022 through &ldquo;treachery&rdquo;.
Addressing a rally at Alibaug in Maharashtra&rsquo;s Raigad district, Thackeray claimed if the BJP wins the Lok Sabha polls, crackers will be burst in India as well as in China as there will be a &ldquo;timid&rdquo; government in New Delhi.
He slammed the BJP over Prime Minister Narendra Modi&rsquo;s remarks that Pakistan was eager to make Congress MP Rahul Gandhi India&rsquo;s next PM. Thackeray said the former ally resorts to fearmongering using Pakistan&rsquo;s name during polls.
Referring to the Poonch terror attack, Thackeray said the PM and Union Home Minister Amit Shah won&rsquo;t go there, but visit Maharashtra to destroy him.
One soldier was killed and four were injured after terrorists ambushed an Indian Air Force (IAF) convoy in Jammu and Kashmir&rsquo;s Poonch district on Saturday, three weeks ahead of polling in Anantnag-Rajouri Lok Sabha constituency.

Thackeray said Modi has only given pain to people till now, but he is ready to campaign for him if people say they are happy with his government's work.
The Sena (UBT) chief said that had the BJP worked for 10 years, it would not have had to engineer splits, referring to the upheavals in Shiv Sena and NCP.
Accusing the BJP of harbouring hatred for Maharashtra, he said that despite giving over 40 MPs to the NDA in 2019, the state was betrayed.
The former Maharashtra chief minister accused the Centre of taking away big-ticket projects to Gujarat and imposing the &ldquo;ecologically destructive&rdquo; Jaitapur Nuclear Power Plant project and a refinery project on the state.
On BJP's 400-plus seat call, Thackeray said its confidence is growing and its hunger is insatiable. He also alleged that the BJP wants to change the Constitution after getting a brute majority.

A bodyguard of Mauris Noronha, who killed Shiv Sena (UBT) leader Abhishek Ghosalkar during a &lsquo;Facebook Live&rsquo; before taking his own life, has been detained by the Mumbai Crime Branch and is being questioned, an official said on Friday.
The pistol used by Noronha belongs to his bodyguard Amarendra Mishra. The weapon was made at an ordnance factory and its licence is in Mishra&rsquo;s name, he said.
Crime Branch officials have started questioning Mishra in this connection, he said.
The police have recorded the statements of Noronha&rsquo;s family members, including his wife, and learnt that he nursed a grudge against ex-corporator Abhishek Ghosalkar, son of former MLA Vinod Ghosalkar and a loyalist of the Uddhav Thackeray-led Sena (UBT).
Noronha, who faced many cases, was earlier arrested in a rape case and spent nearly five months behind bars.
While there was a tussle between Ghosalkar (40) and Noronha, who had political aspirations, the latter suspected the former had implicated him in the rape case, his wife has told the police.
After coming out of jail, Noronha would frequently say that he wouldn't "spare" Ghosalkar.
The official said, Noronha first decided to win Ghosalkar&rsquo;s trust by offering an olive branch to him. He began putting up Ghoslkar&rsquo;s banners in his area.
Around 7.30 pm on Thursday, Ghosalkar was in his office at IC Colony, which is less than 100 metres from Noronha&rsquo;s set-up on the ground floor of the 'Prabhu Udyog Bhavan' building, when got a call from Noronha.
Noronha asked him to come over to his office on the other side of the road, saying they would distribute sarees to women there. Noronha&rsquo;s office has banners with messages like &lsquo;&lsquo;Corona Yoddha&rsquo; and &lsquo;Vote for Mauris bhai&rsquo;.
Noronha then suggested to Ghosalkar that they do a Facebook Live to announce their decision to bury the hatchet and work for the people.
During the FB Live, Noronha pumped bullets into Ghosalkar from his bodyguard&rsquo;s pistol, which he perhaps had kept with himself. He then rushed to the mezzanine floor of his office and shot himself in the head, the official said.
A case was registered based on a complaint filed by a friend of Ghosalkar, who used to accompany him everywhere. His statement was also recorded in this connection, the official said.
The police on Friday maintained a tight vigil in the area amid the presence of a large number of people near the offices of Noronha and Ghosalkar. Shops in the vicinity also remained shut, he said, adding that the situation was calm there.

The Supreme Court on January 22 accepted a plea of Uddhav Thackeray faction challenging Maharashtra Legislative Assembly Speaker Rahul Narwekar's order that declared Shinde's faction of Shiv Sena as the real political party.

The Supreme Court on Monday sought responses from Chief Minister Eknath Shinde and other lawmakers of his group on a plea of the Uddhav Thackeray faction challenging Maharashtra Legislative Assembly Speaker Rahul Narwekar's order declaring the Shiv Sena bloc led by Shinde as the "real political party" after its split in June 2022.
A bench comprising Chief Justice D Y Chandrachud and Justices JB Pardiwala and Manoj Misra took note of the submissions of senior advocates Kapil Sibal and Abhishek Singhvi, appearing for the Thackeray faction, and sought response of the chief minister and other MLAs within two weeks.
At the outset, the top court said the plea can be heard by the Bombay High Court as well. The senior lawyers for the Thackeray faction, however, opposed the idea and said the top court is more equipped to handle the case.
&ldquo;Your Lordships have to decide it. If we go to the high court, then it will be delayed further,&rdquo; Sibal said, adding the speaker&rsquo;s decision had come in pursuance of the direction of the top court.
The Supreme Court, which initially intended to grant Shinde and the MLAs of his bloc four weeks to submit their replies, later fixed the case after two weeks.
The Thackeray faction, in its plea filed through MLA Sunil Prabhu, has alleged that Shinde "unconstitutionally usurped power" and is heading an "unconstitutional government".
In his order passed on January 10, Speaker Narwekar had also rejected the Thackeray faction's plea to disqualify 16 MLAs of the ruling camp, including Shinde.
Challenging the orders passed by the Speaker, the Thackeray faction has claimed they are "patently unlawful and perverse" and that instead of punishing the act of defection, they reward the defectors by holding that they comprise the real political party.
"All impugned decisions are premised on a common finding that the majority of legislators represented the will of the political party, and therefore, they are not liable for disqualification," the plea said.
This amounts to a complete inversion of the 10th Schedule, which is intended to disqualify legislators who act against their political party, it said.
"However, if the majority of legislators are treated to be the political party, then the members of the actual political party become subject to the will of the majority of legislators. This is totally against the Constitutional scheme, and is consequently liable to be set aside," the petition said.
It said the speaker had erred in holding that the majority legislators of the Shiv Sena represented the will of the Shiv Sena political party.
"The balance of convenience is in favour of the petitioner and against the respondents. Eknath Shinde has unconstitutionally usurped power and is heading an unconstitutional Government in Maharashtra. This is extremely prejudicial and causing irreparable harm and injury to the petitioner, as well as to the general public," the plea alleged.
As an interim relief, the petition has sought an ex-parte stay on the operation and effect of the January 10 order passed by the speaker, pending a decision on the plea before the apex court.
It has also sought an interim relief restraining the Shinde faction from issuing directions to the group of Shiv Sena MLAs led by Thackeray.
"However, the impugned judgments are contrary to this salutary principle of Constitutional law, as they allow the evil of defection to be committed unabated, merely by winning over a majority of legislators belonging to the political party.
"In fact, rather than punishing the act of defection, the impugned judgments reward the defectors by holding that they comprise the political party," it said.
The plea said it raises several substantial questions of law for consideration by the apex court.
"Whether the speaker failed to consider that the act of Eknath Shinde meeting the Governor, and taking oath as chief minister with the support of the BJP, and all the respondent MLAs supporting this decision, amounts to voluntarily giving up membership of the political party under Para 2(1)(a) of Tenth Schedule?" the petition asked.
In his ruling on the disqualification petitions, the speaker did not disqualify any MLA belonging to the rival camps.
The speaker's ruling further cemented Shinde's position as the chief minister, 18 months after he led a rebellion against Thackeray, and added to his political heft in the ruling coalition, which also consists of the BJP and the NCP (Ajit Pawar group), ahead of the Lok Sabha polls this summer and state assembly elections due in the second half of 2024.
Narwekar had said no party leadership can use provisions of the 10th Schedule of the Constitution (anti-defection law) to quell dissent or indiscipline within a party.
The Shinde group had the support of 37 out of the total 54 Sena MLAs when the party split in June 2022, the speaker had noted.
The Election Commission had given the 'Shiv Sena' name and 'bow and arrow' symbol to the Shinde-led faction in early 2023.
In his order on the disqualification petitions filed by the Shinde-led Sena and the rival Thackeray faction against each other's MLAs, Narwekar had said Sunil Prabhu of the Sena (UBT) ceased to be the whip from June 21, 2022 (when the party split) and legislator Bharat Gogawale of the Shinde group became the authorised whip.
The speaker had also held that the Shiv Sena 'pramukh' (chief) did not have the power to remove any leader from the party. He did not accept the argument that the will of the party chief and the will of the party were synonymous.&nbsp;

The Speaker rejected Uddhav's plea to consider the party's 2018 constitution. He said that the constitution provided by Election Commission of India is the relevant one to determine which faction is the real political party.
"The 2018 amended constitution of Shiv Sena cannot be considered as valid as it's not in the records of the Election Commission of India. As per Supreme Court orders, I can not delve into any other factor on which the constitution is valid. As per records, I am relying on the 1999 constitution of Shiv Sena as the valid constitution," said the Speaker.
Ruling in favour of the Shinde faction, Narwekar said that the decision of majority is the party's will.

Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde on Saturday took a swipe at his former leader Uddhav Thackeray by stating good relations have to be maintained with the Centre to get development funds, and work gets done on the ground and not online or from home.
Speaking at the ABP conclave, Shinde said one needed to keep ego aside for the state, a swipe at Thackeray, who as chief minister of the Maha Vikas Aghadi dispensation between 2019 and 2022, often sparred with the Narendra Modi government.
Queried on the Election Commission choosing his faction as the real Shiv Sena and giving it the bow and arrow symbol, Shinde said, "The Shiv Sena is founded by Balasaheb Thackeray. Most of the Shiv Sena MLAs, MPs, (former) corporators are with me." Without naming Uddhav Thackeray, the CM said the former ditched the ideology of Balasaheb Thackeray in the lust for power.

The Supreme Court Wednesday refused to stay the Election Commission order recognising the Eknath Shinde-led bloc as the real Shiv Sena and issued a notice to the group headed by the Maharashtra chief minister on the plea of the rival Uddhav Thackeray camp challenging the poll panel's decision.
A bench headed by Chief Justice D Y Chandrachud took note of the submissions of senior advocate Kapil Sibal, appearing for Thackeray, and sought response of the faction led by Maharashtra Chief Minister Shinde.
The counsel for the Shinde faction told the bench, also comprising Justices P S Narasimha and J B Pardiwala, that it will not issue any whip or initiate process to disqualify the lawmakers of the Thackeray faction in the meantime. &ldquo;All right, issue notice. The counter affidavit will be filed within two weeks,&rdquo; the bench said.
While issuing notice, the bench, however, refused to stay the decision of the poll panel acknowledging the Shinde faction as the real Shiv Sena, saying it cannot be done without hearing the other side.
The top court had on Tuesday agreed to hear the plea of the Thackeray camp against the Election Commission's decision.
Besides recognising the Shinde-led bloc as the real Shiv Sena, the poll panel had also ordered the allotment of the party's original 'bow and arrow' poll symbol to it.

The EC had, on February 17, recognised the faction led by Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde as the real Shiv Sena and had allotted it the 'bow and arrow' symbol, prompting Shah to claim Thackeray would now know on which side the truth was.
Hitting back at Shah welcoming the EC decision, Thackeray, had, on Sunday, sarcastically said 'Mogambo khush hua', a line the villain in the film often repeats when a plan succeeds.

Taking a jibe at Union Home Minister Amit Shah, Thackeray said, "'Mogambo khush hua' on the Election Commission order." Thackeray said the BJP pushed him towards joining hands with the Congress and Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) as it dishonoured a commitment given.
