Caught in the Ukraine-Russia conflict, these orphans have been given safe haven by Scotland

Dozens of Ukrainian orphans and their carers were due to fly from Poland to the UK on Monday - but they're still stuck in Poland because of missing documentation.
The 46 youngsters are from orphanages in and around the Ukrainian city of Dnipro.
Their journey was organized by a Scottish charity called Dnipro Kids, which was set up by supporters of Hibernian Football Club in the Scottish capital Edinburgh.
The flight was set to depart from Warsaw bound for London, and from there to Scotland.
Missing paperwork from the Ukrainian authorities, however, has left them stuck in a Warsaw hotel until the matter can be cleared up.
The important industrial city of Dnipro, in eastern Ukraine, has been the target of Russian airstrikes.
The British government has supported the effort to bring the orphans to safety.
UK Home Secretary Priti Patel said last week that the British authorities were working with Poland and Ukraine "to ensure the children's swift arrival to the UK."
The children, who come from several orphanages in the Dnipro region, were brought to Lviv and then to Poland, where they have been waiting for two weeks to fly to the UK.

US President Joe Biden has called Russian President a war criminal over his invasion of Ukraine.
So what does it mean to be labelled a war criminal and who gets to decide who is a war criminal?
The term applies to anyone who violates a set of rules adopted by world leaders known as the law of armed conflict. The rules govern how countries behave in times of war.
Those rules are drawn from the Geneva Conventions in the aftermath of World War II.
What Makes One A War Criminal?
The so-called “grave breaches” of the conventions that amount to war crimes include willful killing and extensive destruction and appropriation of property not justified by military necessity. Other war crimes include deliberately targeting civilians, using disproportionate force, using human shields and taking hostages.
What happens to a war criminal?
A war criminal can be tried through the International Criminal Court.
Second option if through a United Nations tribunal
Third would be to create a tribunal or court to try a war criminal by a group of interested or concerned states
Finally, some countries have their own laws for prosecuting war crimes. Germany, for example, is already investigating Putin.
So can Putin be put to trial thorugh one of these processes? Unlikely.Russia does not recognize the jurisdiction of the International Criminal Court and would not send any suspects to the court's headquarters in The Hague. Putin could be tried in a country chosen by the United Nations or by the consortium of concerned nations. But getting him there would be difficult.
Have leaders been prosecuted for war crimes? Yes.
Post-World War II tribunals tried senior leaders in Nuremberg and Tokyo. Leaders have been prosecuted for their actions in countries including Bosnia, Cambodia and Rwanda.

Amid the Ukraine-Russia crisis, a pregnant woman and her baby died when Russia attacked a maternity hospital in Mariupol, where she was supposed to become a mother. It has been seen that she was taken to the hospital by the officials in a very critical condition, her pelvis was crushed and her hip was detached. She was stroking her bloodied lower abdomen. Doctors tried their best to save the lives of both mother and her baby.
She was not even in her senses she didn't know what had happened to her. Doctors delivered the baby via C-section but the baby didn't appear to be alive in any way, the moment she came to know that she has lost her baby, she cried out loudly and said: "Kill me now".
After doctors being failed to save the child they tried to focus on saving the women. However more than 30 minutes of a woman being unable to breathe, and didn't show any positive results, the surgeon said "Both died"It was one of the most brutal moments of Russia's 19-day old conflict against Ukraine.

Air India's second evacuation flight from Romanian capital Bucharest carrying 250 Indian nationals who were stranded in Ukraine landed at the Delhi airport in the early hours of Sunday, government officials said.
Civil Aviation Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia welcomed the evacuees at the airport by handing out roses to them.
India on Saturday began the evacuation of its stranded citizens amid the Russian military offensive in Ukraine, with the first evacuation flight, AI1944, bringing back 219 people from Bucharest to Mumbai in the evening.
The second evacuation flight, AI1942, carrying 250 Indian citizens landed at the Delhi airport around 2.45 am on Sunday, the officials said.
Air India's third evacuation flight, AI1940, which has departed from Hungarian capital Budapest, is also scheduled to return with 240 evacuees to Delhi on Sunday, they said.
Addressing the returnees, Scindia said, "I know you all have been through a very, very difficult time, a very, very trying time. But know this that the PM is with you at every step, the Indian government is with you at every step, and 130 crore Indians are with you at every step." He said Prime Minister Narendra Modi is in touch with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and talks are being held so that everyone is brought home safely.
The minister said talks are also on with the Russian government and the Indian government will breathe easy only after each and every stranded Indian is evacuated from Ukraine.
"So, please pass on this message to all your friends and all your colleagues that we are with them and we will guarantee their safe passage back," Scindia said.
"I welcome you all on behalf of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. I would like to congratulate the team of Air India too, for putting in so much effort to bring you all back," he added.
The Ukrainian airspace has been closed for civil aircraft operations since February 24 morning when the Russian military offensive began. Therefore, the Indian evacuation flights are operating out of Bucharest and Budapest.
Indian nationals who reached the Ukraine-Romania border and Ukraine-Hungary border were taken to Bucharest and Budapest, respectively, by road with the assistance of Indian government officials so that they could be evacuated in these Air India flights, the officials said.
The government is not charging the rescued citizens for the evacuation flights, they said.
Air India shared on Twitter photos of Scindia receiving the evacuees at the airport.
"Aviation Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia receiving the Indian nationals who were flown back to Delhi from Bucharest by AI 1942 on February 27 early morning, operated to evacuate Indians stranded at war-ravaged Ukraine," the airline said.
Foreign Secretary Harsh Vardhan Shringla had said on February 24 that around 16,000 Indians, mainly students, were stranded in Ukraine.
The Indian Embassy in Ukraine said on Twitter on Saturday that Indian citizens in Ukraine should not move to any of the border posts without prior coordination with the Indian government officials there using the helpline numbers.
"The situation at various border checkpoints is sensitive and the Embassy is working continuously with our Embassies in our neighbouring countries for coordinated evacuation of our citizens," it mentioned.
The Indian Embassy in Ukraine said it is finding it increasingly difficult to help the crossing of those Indian nationals who are reaching border checkpoints without prior intimation.
It said that staying in western cities of Ukraine with access to water, food, accommodation and basic amenities is relatively safer and advisable compared to reaching border checkpoints without being fully abreast of the situation.
"All those currently in the eastern sector are requested to continue to remain in their current places of residence until further instructions, maintain calm, and stay indoors or in shelters as much as possible, with whatever food, water and amenities available and remain patient," it said.

"In this situation, it is our duty to help Ukraine, to the best of our ability, to defend itself against Vladimir Putin's invading army." The news came shortly after the German economy and climate ministry said in a Saturday evening statement that Germany is allowing the Netherlands to ship 400 German-made anti-tank weapons to Ukraine. The government has also approved the shipment of 9 D-30 howitzers and ammunition originally from Estonia.

What is needed is a strategy to "limit the collateral damage of decoupling from SWIFT in such a way that it affects the right people," Baerbock and Habeck said.
Separately on Saturday, the United States announced USD 350 million in aid to Ukraine, totalling USD 1 billion in security assistance since President Joe Biden took office. The additional aid includes "anti-armour, small arms and various munitions, body armour and related equipment," said John Kirby, the Pentagon press secretary.
A senior defence official said the assistance, which includes Javelin anti-tank weapons, will be delivered to Ukraine in phases and as soon as possible. The official spoke on condition of anonymity to discuss internal planning.

India abstained on a UN Security Council resolution by the US that “deplores in the strongest terms” Russia’s “aggression" against Ukraine, as New Delhi called for the immediate cessation of hostilities and asserted that dialogue is the only answer to settling disputes.
The 15-nation Security Council voted on the draft resolution Friday afternoon by the US and Albania and co-sponsored by a "cross-regional" group of 67 UN member states, including Australia, Estonia, Finland, Georgia, Germany, Italy, Liechtenstein, Lithuania, Luxembourg, New Zealand, Norway, Poland, Romania and the United Kingdom.
India, China and the UAE abstained on the resolution, which received 11 votes in favour by Albania, Brazil, France, Gabon, Ghana, Ireland, Kenya, Mexico, Norway, the UK and the US. The resolution was blocked since permanent member Russia, and President of the Security Council for the month of February, used its veto.
“India is deeply disturbed by the recent turn of developments in Ukraine. We urge that all efforts are made for the immediate cessation of violence and hostilities,” India’s Permanent Representative to the UN Ambassador T S Tirumurti said in the country’s explanation of vote in the Council.
Tirumurti also said India is “deeply concerned” about the welfare and security of the Indian community, including a large number of Indian students, in Ukraine.
He said that no solution can ever be arrived at, at the cost of human lives.

The Brazilian players playing for the Ukrainian club of Shakhtar Donetsk and Dynamo Kiev who are currently stuck in a country that is being invaded by Russia have made a video for help. Shakhtar Donetsk forward Fernando addressed the Brazilian government through a video message posted on his Instagram. In the video, all the Brazilian players who are stuck in a Ukrainian Hotel along with their families requested the Brazilian government to help them reach home.  In the video message, Fernando said, 'We are here to ask for your help to promote this video as we haven't got enough fuel in the city, borders are closed as it is the airspace. Therefore, we cannot leave. We ask the Brazilian government to help, hopefully, they can help us.
