Local authorities reported multiple explosions in the southern city of Odesa and Kyiv regional authorities said air defence systems were operating.

Russia launched a large-scale attack on Ukraine's energy facilities on Friday morning, Ukrainian Energy Minister German Galushchenko said.
"The enemy continues its terror. Once again, the energy sector across Ukraine is under massive attack," Galushchenko wrote in a post on Facebook.
Ukraine's energy system has already suffered 11 Russian attack waves this year, which have caused widespread damage and lengthy power cuts all over the country.
Friday's attack prompted additional restrictions on power usage for consumers, according to the national grid operator Ukrenergo.
All of Ukraine was under air raid alarms.
Local authorities reported multiple explosions in the southern city of Odesa and Kyiv regional authorities said air defence systems were operating.
Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha called on partners to deliver more air defence systems urgently.
"Russia aims to deprive us of energy. Instead, we must deprive it of the means of terror. I reiterate my call for the urgent delivery of 20 NASAMS, HAWK, or IRIS-T air defense systems," Sybiha wrote in a post on X.

The disclosure marks a significant increase from previous estimates disclosed by President Zelenskyy. The last official update, given in February of this year, placed Ukrainian fatalities at 31,000&mdash;a number which underscores the increasing toll the war has taken on the nation.&nbsp;
While both Kyiv and Moscow have frequently published estimates concerning the losses suffered by the opposing side, both have historically been reticent to provide detailed accounts of their own casualties. Yet recent events appear to have compelled Zelensky to offer a more transparent assessment. This move follows comments from U.S. President-elect Donald Trump, who took to social media to highlight what he claimed were Ukraine's "ridiculously" high death tolls, suggesting that 400,000 Ukrainian soldiers had been lost alongside approximately 600,000 Russian casualties. Trump, who has consistently expressed a desire to expedite the end of the war, criticized the needless loss of life, although he did not specify the source of his figures.
Zelenskyy has remained firm amidst conflicting narratives and international pressure, with his estimates of Russian losses aligning closely with those of senior Western officials. It is believed that Russia has endured around 800,000 casualties, comprising both deaths and injuries. The UK Ministry of Defence reported that Russia suffered 45,680 casualties in November alone, remarking that this was the highest monthly toll since the invasion's inception. UK Defence Intelligence further suggests that an average of 1,523 Russian soldiers are either killed or injured daily, with single-day losses exceeding 2,000 men as of late November.
The Kremlin has issued rebuttals to these figures, claiming that Ukrainian losses far exceed Russian casualties. Nevertheless, international consensus outside of Russia largely maintains that Russian loss figures are considerably higher, attributed largely to the Kremlin's so-called "meat grinder" tactics that deploy large numbers of troops with high casualty rates.
Amidst these grim statistics, the conflict grinds on with no end in sight. Russian forces have been making incremental advances along the eastern front, capturing approximately 2,350 square kilometers of territory within Ukraine and Russia's Kursk region this year. Conversely, Ukrainian forces have managed to retain control over a small portion of Russian territory, acquired during a surprise offensive.
Zelenskyy mentioned Ukrainian casualties amidst a broader discussion on the prospect of ending the war. After recent discussions in Paris with French President Emmanuel Macron and incoming U.S. President-elect Donald Trump, Zelensky emphasized the importance of any peace deal being backed by robust international security guarantees. He has called for an "enduring peace" that cannot easily be upended by Moscow.
Trump, who has repeatedly stated his confidence in his ability to conclude the war "in a day," has yet to outline a specific plan. His calls for an immediate ceasefire have been met by the Kremlin with a conditional openness to negotiation. The conditions laid out by Russian President Vladimir Putin in June include demands for Ukraine to cede additional territory and abandon its NATO ambitions&mdash;terms that Kyiv continues to reject.
At a critical juncture in global geopolitics, Ukraine's plea for lasting peace and security guarantees resonates as the battle lines are drawn not only on the fields of Eastern Europe but also through the complex web of international diplomacy.

While he did not provide more details, Zelenskyy shared the news "so that Ukrainian society would know and appreciate domestic defence producers working 24/7."

The reason is that the US and its Western allies have placed limitations on Kyiv on where its weapons can be used.
Ukraine has been prohibited by the West to not to use their long-range missiles deep into Russia, though it can target the border regions.
West has been reluctant to give a free hand to Ukraine as it fears that the move could escalate the war.&nbsp;
There are concerns that Russian President Vladimir Putin would take a Ukrainian strike by an American long-range ballistic missile within Russia as an attack by the US itself.
It is precisely why the US didn&rsquo;t permit Ukraine to use its long-range weapons such as Army Tactical Missile Systems or the ATACMS to strike Russia.&nbsp;
These missiles have a range of 300-kilometre and could be used to hit military bases and airfields well into Russian territory.

He has repeatedly appealed to Ukraine's Western partners to provide more air defence systems, and the United States has agreed to send another Patriot missile system, two US officials said late Tuesday.

The U.S. announced a new $400 million package of military aid for Ukraine on Friday, as Kyiv struggles to hold off advances by Russian troops in the northeast Kharkiv region.
This is the third tranche of aid for Ukraine since Congress passed supplemental funding in late April after months of gridlock. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy had warned Thursday that his country was facing &ldquo;a really difficult situation&rdquo; in the east, but said a new supply of U.S. weapons was coming and &ldquo;we will be able to stop them.&rdquo;
The package includes High Mobility Artillery Rocket Systems and rockets for them, as well as munitions for Patriot and National Advanced Surface-to-Air Missile Systems, artillery, anti-aircraft and anti-tank munitions, and an array of armored vehicles, such as Bradley and Mine Resistant Ambush Protected vehicles.
It will also provide a number of coastal and riverine patrol boats, trailers, demolition munitions, high-speed anti-radiation missiles, protective gear, spare parts and other weapons and equipment. The weapons are being sent through presidential drawdown authority, which pulls systems and munitions from existing U.S. stockpiles so they can go quickly to the war front.
White House national security spokesman John Kirby said Friday that the latest military aid was intended, in part, to help Ukraine fend off the surging Russian effort to capture Kharkiv, Ukraine&rsquo;s second largest city.
Kirby noted that Russia has already launched initial incursions into areas around the towns of Vovchansk and Lyptsi, near Kharkiv.
&ldquo;It is possible that Russia will make further advances in the coming weeks, but we do not anticipate any major breakthroughs,&rdquo; Kirby said. &ldquo;And over time, the influx of U.S. assistance will enable Ukraine to withstand these attacks over the course of 2024.&rdquo;
The U.S. has now provided about $50.6 billion in military assistance to Ukraine since Russia invaded in February 2022.

Ukraine announced Tuesday it had detained two Ukrainian security officials involved in a plot coordinated by Russia to assassinate senior Ukrainian officials, including President Volodymyr Zelensky.
Kyiv says that the Ukrainian leader has been targeted by Russia on multiple occasions, including at the beginning of the Russian invasion in February 2022.
The Security Service of Ukraine said in a statement that it had exposed a network of agents run by Russia's Federal Security Service whose aim was to assassinate Zelensky and other senior Ukrainian political and military officials.
"The network, whose activities were supervised by the FSB from Moscow, included two colonels of the State Security Department who were leaking classified information to Russia," the SBU said.
It said that Russia had worked to identify individuals close to Zelensky's security detail who could take the Ukrainian leader hostage and kill him.
Polish and Ukrainian prosecutors announced last month they had detained a man suspected of aiding a Russian assassination plot on Zelensky.
And the SBU said last August that a woman had been arrested for over a plot of kill the Ukrainian leader by trying to uncover details of his movements outside Kyiv.

Russian troops have been advancing in the area, pounding Kyiv's depleted, ammunition-deprived forces with artillery, drones and bombs. Ukraine's military has acknowledged the Russians have gained a &ldquo;foothold&rdquo; in Ocheretyne, which had a population of about 3,000 before the war, but says that fighting continues.
Residents have scrambled to flee the village, among them a 98-year-old woman who walked almost 10 kilometers (6 miles) alone last week, wearing a pair of slippers and supported by a cane, until she reached Ukrainian front lines.
Not a single person is seen in the footage, and no building in Ocheretyne appears to have been left untouched by the fighting. Most houses, apartment blocks and other buildings look damaged beyond repair, and many houses have been pummeled into piles of wood and bricks.
A factory on the outskirts has also been badly damaged.
The footage also shows smoke billowing from several houses, and fires burning in at least two buildings.
Elsewhere, Russia has in recent weeks stepped up attacks on Kharkiv, Ukraine's second-largest city, in an attempt to pummel the region's energy infrastructure and terrorize its 1.3 million residents.
Four people were wounded and a two-story civilian building was damaged and set ablaze overnight after Russian forces struck Kharkiv, in northeastern Ukraine, with exploding drones, regional Gov Oleh Syniehubov said Saturday.
The four, including a 13-year-old, were hurt by falling debris, he said on the Telegram messaging app.
Russian state agency RIA reported Saturday that Moscow's forces struck a drone warehouse in Kharkiv that had been used by Ukrainian troops overnight, citing Sergei Lebedev, described as a coordinator of local pro-Moscow guerrillas. His comments could not be independently verified.
Russian forces continued hitting Kharkiv and its surroundings on Saturday, according to updates posted by Syniehubov and other Ukrainian officials on the Telegram messenger app. One strike hit a civilian business in an industrial district of the city, wounding at least five people, Syniehubov said.
A further attack killed a 49-year-old civilian outside his house in Slobozhanske, a village northeast of the city, the governor reported.
In the Black Sea port of Odesa, which has been repeatedly targeted in recent days, three people were hurt in a rocket attack on &ldquo;civil infrastructure,&rdquo; regional Gov Oleh Kiper said.
Ukraine's military said Russia launched a total of 13 Shahed drones at the Kharkiv and Dnipropetrovsk regions of eastern Ukraine overnight, all of which were shot down by Ukrainian air defenses.
Ukraine's energy ministry on Saturday said the overnight strikes damaged an electrical substation in the Dnipropetrovsk region, briefly depriving households and businesses of power.
According to Serhii Lysak, the province's governor, falling drone debris damaged critical infrastructure and three private houses, one of which caught fire. Two residents were hospitalized.
Russia's Defense Ministry claimed early on Saturday that its forces overnight shot down four US-provided long-range ATACMS missiles over the Crimean Peninsula, which Moscow illegally annexed from Ukraine in 2014. The ministry did not provide further details.
Ukraine has recently begun using the missiles, provided secretly by the United States, to hit Russian-held areas, including a military airfield in Crimea and in another area east of the occupied city of Berdyansk, US officials said last week.
Long sought by Ukrainian leaders, the new missiles give Ukraine nearly double the striking distance &mdash; up to 300 kilometers (190 miles) &mdash; than it had with the mid-range version of the weapons it received from the US last October.
A Ukrainian drone also damaged telecommunications infrastructure on the outskirts of Belgorod, a Russian city some 50 kilometers (31 miles) from the Ukrainian border, according to the local governor. Vyacheslav Gladkov did not say what the site was used for.
Hours later, Gladkov reported that five people in Belgorod were hospitalized, with shrapnel wounds and other injuries, following a strong blast on Saturday that also damaged around 30 private homes and sparked two fires. He did not immediately clarify what caused the explosions.

Ukraine said it is banking on India to restore just and lasting peace in the war-hit region and expressed hope in influencing Russia to end the war. The remarks were made by Ukraine's foreign minister Dmytro Kuleba, who is on a two-day visit to India at the invitation of Foreign Minister S Jaishankar.
Speaking to NDTV on Thursday, Kuleba called India a very important player in the world and said that New Delhi should use its special relationship with Moscow to stop the war, which has gone on for over two years now.&nbsp;
Talking about what made him come to India, Kuleba was quoted as saying, "This is because India is a very important player in the world and we need India to restore just and lasting peace in Ukraine," he said.
Referring to Jaishankar's statements on close relations shared between India and Russia, Kuleba said that India-Russia is based on the Soviet legacy, which is "extinct and has no future".
Recalling Prime Minister Narendra Modi's "famous" words to Russian President Vladimir Putin that 'this is not an era of war', Kuleba said Moscow was responsible for the largest conflict in Europe since the Second World War.&nbsp;
"We understand there are some economic, technological ties between India and Russia and India is a sovereign nation, it has the right to develop relations with any country it deems appropriate," Kuleba told NDTV.
"But if India and Russia are so close, it means that India can influence the way Russia behaves and this is one of the reasons why the voice of India is so important but, second, I don't think this relationship has a future for the reason that I mentioned. I think the Ukrainian-Indian relationship has more (of a) future in that sense," he said.&nbsp;
Earlier in the day, Kuleba paid his respects to Mahatma Gandhi at the Rajghat memorial site. He is expected to meet with his Indian counterpart Subrahmanyam Jaishankar on March 29, as well as the deputy national security advisor, according to India's Foreign Ministry.&nbsp;

French President Emmanuel Macron said Monday that sending Western troops on the ground in Ukraine is not &ldquo;ruled out&rdquo; in the future.
Macron spoke after a meeting on Ukraine in Paris brought together over 20 European heads of state and government and other Western officials in Paris.
&ldquo;There's no consensus today to send in an official manner troops on the ground. But in terms of dynamics, nothing can be ruled out,&rdquo; Macron said.
Macron declined to provide details about which nations were considering sending troops.
He added that &ldquo;we will do everything needed so Russia cannot win the war.&rdquo; French President Emmanuel Macron told fellow European leaders Monday they must ensure their collective security by providing unwavering support to Ukraine in the face of tougher Russian offensives on the battlefield in recent months.
&ldquo;We are in the process of ensuring our collective security, for today and tomorrow,&rdquo; Macron said as he hosted 20 European heads of state and government and other Western officials in Paris for a show of unity for Ukraine, as Russia's full-scale invasion grinds into a third year.
&ldquo;Russia cannot and must not win that war,&rdquo; Macron said at the meeting at the presidential palace, which included German Chancellor Olaf Scholz and Polish President Andrzej Duda as well as leaders from the Baltic nations.
&ldquo;In recent months particularly, we have seen Russia getting tougher,&rdquo; Macron said. &ldquo;We also know that Russia is preparing new attacks, in particular to shock Ukrainian public opinion.&rdquo; Macron cited the need to solidify security to head off any Russian attacks on additional countries in the future. Estonia, Lithuania and Latvia as well as much larger Poland have been considered among possible targets of future Russian expansionism. All four countries are staunch supporters of Ukraine.
Estonia's foreign minister said earlier this month that NATO has about three or four years to strengthen its defenses.
In a video speech, Ukraine President Volodymyr Zelenskyy called on the leaders gathered in Paris to "ensure that Putin cannot destroy our achievements and cannot expand his aggression to other nations.&rdquo; A top French official said the conference isn't aimed at making new commitments in terms of weapon deliveries and financial aid, but rather at better coordinating support for Kyiv and ensuring that aid promises are kept. The official spoke on condition of anonymity to discuss the conference details and goals.
The United States was represented at the Paris meeting by its top diplomat for Europe, James O'Brien, and the U.K. by Foreign Secretary David Cameron.
European nations are worried that the U.S. will dial back support as aid for Kyiv is teetering in Congress. They also have concerns that former U.S. President Donald Trump might return to the White House and change the course of U.S. policy on the continent.

A report by 60 Minutes Australia said that her life changed completely when one night her alcoholic parents left her out in the cold when she was merely 3-years-old. In the dire need of warmth, she followed her pet dog into a kennel and spend the next five years with dogs without any human interaction.&nbsp;
In the duration from age 3 to 6, she adopted almost all the characteristics of a dog such as barking, growling, and walking on all fours.&nbsp; &nbsp; Talking to 60 Minutes Australia, Malaya said, "Mom had too many kids...we didn't have enough beds. So I crawled to the dog and started living with her".&nbsp;
"I would talk to them, they would bark and I would repeat it. That was our way of communication," she added.&nbsp;
Malaya was rescued at the age of 9 when Ukrainian authorities were informed about her condition. However, despite being taken out of the kennel and medical treatment, she still retained some of the traits.&nbsp;

A Ukrainian intelligence official said that the country has repeatedly asked Russia to hand over the bodies of scores of prisoners of war who Moscow claimed were killed in the downing of a Russian military transport plane by Ukrainian forces.
Andrii Yusov, the spokesman for Ukraine's military intelligence said in televised remarks late Thursday that Kyiv has urged Moscow to hand over the bodies of those who died in the Jan. 24 crash, but it has refused to do so. He reaffirmed Ukraine's call for an international probe into the crash that would determine whether the cargo plane carried weapons or passengers along with the crew.
Russia and Ukraine have traded accusations over the crash, with Moscow accusing Kyiv of killing its own men and Ukraine dismissing Moscow's assertions as &ldquo;rampant Russian propaganda.&rdquo; Kyiv has neither confirmed nor denied that its forces downed the Il-76, and Russia's claim that the crash killed Ukrainian POWs couldn't be independently verified. Ukrainian officials emphasized that Moscow didn't ask for any specific stretch of airspace to be kept safe for a certain length of time, as it has for past prisoner exchanges.

Russia's Investigative Committee, the main state criminal investigation agency, said Thursday that its probe into the crash found that the Il-76 military transport plane was brought down by the U.S.-made Patriot air defense system, which Western allies have supplied to Kyiv.
Russian officials claimed there were 74 people on board, including 65 Ukrainian prisoners of war, six crew members and three Russian servicemen. All were reported killed when the plane hit the ground and exploded in a giant fireball in the Belgorod region near Ukraine.
The Investigative Committee said investigators have found over 670 body fragments and identified all the crash victims.
The committee said that it also has recovered 116 fragments of two missiles that were fired from a Patriot system from near the village of Lyptsi in the Kharkiv region of Ukraine. It showed a video that purported to show some missile fragments lying in the snow with visible markings ostensibly proving their origin.
Russia, meanwhile, has continued to pummel Ukraine with long-range strikes, with the 1,500-kilometer (930-mile) front line remaining largely static as the conflict approaches the two-year mark.
Ukraine's Air Force said it intercepted 11 out of 24 Iranian Shahed drones that Russia fired overnight, adding that seven drones didn't reach their targets and were &ldquo;lost&rdquo; on the way.
In Kryvyi Rih, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy's hometown, a drone attack damaged an energy infrastructure facility leaving 100,000 recipients without electricity and left 113 coal miners stranded underground, according to Mayor Oleksandr Vilkul. He said all the miners were brought to safety after electrical supply was partially restored.
